@All sorry for the slow posts, jet lag and a super full schedule has been kicking my ass. Anyway so it looks like Ser Armithia, Azarra and Zane are opting to defer until after Ishta.

Kardas's blades moved faster than the eye could follow as he slashed into the space in front of him. He knew roughly where the attacks had come from but that still didn't make it easy to actually hit the invisible menace. His first stoke missed but his second one caught something eliciting a shriek of pain seemingly from thin air!

Fort Save DC 15: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27 <--- PASS

Delenn eyes Ishta and waits while the younger Arcanist prepares her scroll, likewise Ser Armithia, Zane and Azarra.

Holding a fragile looking scroll, Azarra utters a strnge spidery word and suddenly thr scroll flares with golden light and vanishes. With a flash, a cloud of golden particles swirls out to cover everyone and everything! Her spell reveals the horrific outline of a ravening beast in front of you!

Will DC 13 to avoid blindness: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 <--- PASS (just)

And then suddenly everything happened at once, Ser Armithia's sword descended and lopped off a fair sized chunk of golden speckled stalker.

Delenn raised her hand towards the monster and shouted a harsh word. Suddenly a quartet of miniature arrows lanced out from her fingertips to strike unerringly, detonating in miniature puffs of golden splattered ichor.
Damage: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 3) + 4 = 14

Azarra tries to shoot it but she's taken aback by the size and the furiosity of the beast and misses, much to her consternation.

Zane's mace smashed solidly into the ravening beast, seemingly breaking something internal.

Enraged the stalker's arms blur as it savagely smashed the air in front of Kardas, however fury had taken over judgment and the creature was easily deflected by Kardas's arcane shielding.

Kardas tries to cast a spell but he had to duck when one meaty fist came towards him, and then he lost his footing and didn't get an opening.

Ishtas ray of utter cold strikes it however causing a portion of it's golden speckled torso to frost over!

The valiant knight swings his sword at the golden goo encrusted horror, but it bats his blade away.

At the same time Zane swung his mace, but he didn't compensate for the sudden movement of the movement of the monster, causing him to miss.

Delenn points her wand at the monster and whispers the command word. A fat beam of fire stabs out and manages just about to hit!

The creature wails in pain before lashing out! It's first fist explodes into Kardas's face hard enough to break his nose and causing him to see stars. But the magus valiantly manages to parry it's second attack!

Zane grew frustrated with himself after another miss, though as a whole things seemed to be going well. The creature seemed to be having trouble hitting Kardas after whatever Ishta had done to it, which judging by the power behind its attacks was fortunate. The priest again raised his mace, trying to smash their foe once again. But again his ineptitude compared to his more martial companions is exposed.

Kardas, I think you get a +2 on attack and damage from Inspire Courage as well, unless you already have a competence bonus.

Heroism and Inspire Courage give the same bonus, afaik. It would up my damage by 2, yes! I like the magus class, but good god, are they dice roll heavy -_-

Actually, they do stack for the attack and damage bonuses. Try an Arcane Trickster; way too many dice...lol.

The 2 extra to hit made all the difference!
Kardas snapped out another spell before lunging with his sword, the goo-covered monster batted it aside but he reversed his stroke and scored a deep line along it's chest, dripping invisible blood (you can see the golden goo flowing along with it...)

Ishat's spell scores a line of frozen invisible stalker almost parallel to Kardas's stroke.

In an impressive feat a master archer would be proud off, Azarra then lands a pair of arrows within an inch, deep within it's chest. Nothing could take this kind of battering for long, including invisible horrors summoned from the lower planes. With a strange trilling noise it collapses and thrashes about for a bit before finally becoming still forevermore.

Combat over.

Perception DC 24:
You find a trio of scrolls stuffed into the back of an old folio: DC 19 scroll of dimension door, DC 20 a scroll of planar
adaptation, and DC 20 a scroll of teleport.

Now you've had a chance for a closer look, the room shows signs of a previous combat. There are some various chips in the floor and walls and several suspicious stains. The angel in the room has been damaged presumably during combat.

If you touch the damaged head:
It falls off with a loud CLANG, leaving a dark cavity crammed with clockwork. You'll need to make a disable device check to manipulate the mechanism within to simulate the head being turned in order to open the angelic gate on this level!

Kardas whistles his appreciation at the stash of arcane scrolls. Dimension Door? Teleport? Spells the truly potent casters relied on, but spells that are as of yet not within his grasp. "My grandma used to frighten us as kids with stories of invisible horrors who would kidnap the naughty kids. I guess there's some truth to them after all, even if, eh, well they aren't exactly kidnapping naughty kids. Oh, and no, don't entrust me with anything mechanical, please."

I don't think Ser can even try. Disable Device is trained only and he doesn't have it.

Azarra sees Ser hanging back, so she goes over to the angel to check it out. As soon as she touches it, the head falls off.

She examines it to see if she can get it working again.

"Ummm..." Ishta is reluctant to leave the statue without activating it, but she really can't think of a way to do it other than Azarra retrying. And she has stated her will to finish exploring, maybe to focus her head a bit, which seems understandable. Sometimes you just need some fresh air to solve a stuck puzzle. If only they had some actual fresh air down here...

Zane grinned as the perceptive half-elf spied the hidden scrolls, her intellect on display as always. Kardas' words were true...most bedtime stories were just exaggerations of terrible things that actually existed in Faerun. In this case, maybe not so much an exaggeration. The priest started as Ser Armithia went to adjust the angel's head, only for it to fall off suddenly.

After Azarra tinkered with the mechanism and could make no headway, the cleric nodded his agreement with clearing the level and prepared to continue along with the others, taking his position behind Ser Armithia in the hallway.

Kardas visibly groans before spasming into what could be called a shrug. "Fine, if we must. Alas, let's move and return to this statue once we've seen every room this accursed floor has to offer us."

The Watchers of Dawn start a sweep of the level and on the northern wall they find a door they'd previously overlooked. The door like others in the library is of unusually stout construction and it appears to be locked.

It has hardness 5, 20 hp, a break DC of 22 or a disable device DC of 18.

Was that a feint scratching noise you heard from the other side of the door?

A full circuit of the level reveals a small side corridor which you missed earlier. At the far end there's another statue, this time undamaged.


"Well well, I never knew that was there!" remarked a surprised Delenn, "This corridor was filled with junk although it's all gone..." She thinks on that for a moment before shaking her head.

This statue despite being an angel is quite disturbing, it's mouth is open revealing razor sharp pointed teeth. Some wit placed a minor enchantment on the eyes which follow you around...

If you turn it:
The head seems to be a bit stiff... You need a DC 18 strength check to turn it

Zane frowned at the state of the angel's head, unnerved a bit as the eyes seemed to be cognizant and following the group's movements. Determined to not let the statue paralyze him with fear, he strode up and attempted to turn the head to the correct position. He looked up at Ser Armithia as he strained, rasping out, "A little help, please!" The priest could almost feel it moving!

Kardas not-so-gently pushes Armithia aside. The sight of the paladin failing to aid Zane - what do you expect when you're stuck inside a tin can like that?! - has gnawn away at his patience and with Armithia now gone, Kardas weighs in on the matter. "Here, let me help you!"

With Kardas's help, Zane manages to twist the statue. To your disgust, the moth opens emitting an unpleasant smell of rotting meat! In the distance you hear a series of CLANK-CLANK-CLANK-CLANKs followed by a resounding KER-THUNK.

Ishta finds the central angelic gate iris has opened. The carved angles surrounding the gate all have leering faces out from which poke lolling tongues of metal which are strangely warm. A shaft descending at least 60' is revealed below, it walls carved with statues of angels wearing fixed, expressionless masks.

Perception DC 25:
You notice a worn spiraling pathway of sorts down the shoulders and wings of these angels that allows access to the bottom without the need to climb.
