Hello friends!

Character creation guidelines for this campaign:

1) 20 pt buy. No pre-modified less than 8 or more than 18, m'k?

2) Roll Starting wealth per PRD by class, but no more than 150GP regardless of role. You likely start poor and humble; that'll change over time...you'll be poor, humble, and dead!

3) only stuff from CRB, APG, Ultimate Combat, Ult Magic and Ultimate Equipment. No sourcebooks or 3rd party stuff please. Just because you want it doesn't mean I have to give it you...

4) Ideally 4-6 pc's. With these roles: 1 healer, 1 arcanist, 1 front line melee, 1 trap finder, 1 back up melee/ranged killer, 1 back up healer type. Please pick your roles yourselves. Don't make me come down there and sort this out.

5) Do you recall me saying I have a preference for core-only?

6) Traits: 1 normal, 1 campaign (found in free downlaod player's guide, link below)

7) Really need to read and understand the CotCT Player's Guide. This sourcebook has info on perception of races, classes, and themes of life in Old Korvosa. If you choose a Shoanti, prepare for a tough road etc. The book is free download PDF. Just do it!

8) Backstory needs to give why you're in Korvosa and how you're tied to crime boss Gaedren Lamm. Campaign Trait is also tied to this. Have it make sense, ok.

9) I reserve the right to add new rules at seemingly random moments

10) be advised, this game may never actually start, inspire me.

Grand Lodge

I present Crux, the Deformed, a wizard.

Background: Crux was born to a life of wealth. He had a talent for magic but his father wanted him to become a soldier. So Crux ran away from home. He had dreams of impressing a great wizard and becoming his apprentice. Eventually becoming a powerful wizard in his own right. Unfortunately, he was found by Gaedren Lamm before that could happen. Gaedren recognized the potential in Crux and tried to force a life of crime upon him. However, Crux was not to be swayed and eventually, Lamm decided the boy with so much potential had to be removed. Crux was beaten and left for dead in the gutters where, as fortune would have it, he was found by a up and coming wizard. The wizard nursed him back to health and took him on as his apprentice. His apprenticeship is now done and Crux has returned to finish his business with Lamm and make amends with his father.

Appearance: Crux is rather tall and thin with a piercing stare. He keeps himself covered as much as possible in an effort to hide the wounds that remain on his face and body from Lamm's depredations. He has a noticeable limp from that last beating as well (though it does not hamper his movement).

Silver Crusade

Ah, Graxton Soth a Half-orc with a plan of war. Yup that is right Soth, and if you know the name, he will be a dark one, though not evil unless you push him. :P

Cleric of Gorum, Area of knowing: battle, strength, weapons
Domains: Strength, War
Weapon: greatsword

Trait
Birthmark: You were born with a strange birthmark that looks very similar to the holy symbol of the god you chose to worship later in life. This birthmark can serve you as a divine focus for casting spells, and as a physical manifestation of your faith, it increases your devotion to your god—you gain a +2 trait bonus on all saving throws against charm and compulsion effects as a result.

Type: Back up healer, though with channeling and spontaneous casting, he could be the healer.

He grew up a hard time until the soldiers came. He was recruited into the ranks and made any weapon given to him a deadly weapon even in training, the trainers knew that some one was giving him strength, they hoped it was not the resolve just in that half-orc. Soon a cleric of Gorum came to look at the boy. He took his crop and whipped the trainer for not coming sooner. "Look at him, the symbol of the weapon crescent on his chest and the mountain with blade stuck to it on his right hand! Let alone this 'boy' is the two halves that make up Gorum. Come, for now you are Soth, a great example of our faith, and you will learn and learn well the teachings of Gorum!" The other clerics that were summoned were pushed aside by that cleric of Gorum and the boy followed. That was Grandmaster Soth, he died in a glorious battle with trolls and paladins, don't ask it was glorious!

Since then another cleric thought to take me under his wing, then I broke his nose. From there I have searched for some good places that needed my strong arm and a fierce battle. That is when I met Crux. I saw his path before him and prayed and decided it was the path for me to follow. Soon the next hour my blade drank deeply and I knew I was to help Crux defy Lamm.

That is if Crux likes the idea of a companion in arms. :P

Grand Lodge

Starting wealth 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7 x 10 = 70
Oh look. Average.

I'm thinking of a ranger with the urban ranger and skirmisher archetypes. He'd be more of an ersatz rogue really...

Stat block, proposed CotCT character:
Rodan 'Sly' Grynne
Male Human (Varisian) Ranger (Skirmisher, Urban Ranger) 1
NG Medium Humanoid (human)
Init +5; Senses Perception +5
--------------------
Defense
--------------------
AC 13, touch 13, flat-footed 10 (+3 Dex)
hp 10 (1d10)
Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +1
--------------------
Offense
--------------------
Speed 30 ft.
Special Attacks favored enemy (humans +2)
--------------------
Statistics
--------------------
Str 14, Dex 17, Con 11, Int 12, Wis 13, Cha 12
Base Atk +1; CMB +3; CMD 16
Feats Additional Traits, Cosmopolitan (Acrobatics, Use Magic Device)
Traits Fast-Talker, Missing Child (Sibling), Reactionary, Vagabond Child (urban) (Escape Artist)
Skills Acrobatics +7, Bluff +6 (+8 vs. humans), Climb +6, Disable Device +7, Escape Artist +4, Knowledge (local) +5 (+7 vs. humans), Perception +5 (+7 vs. humans), Sense Motive +5 (+7 vs. humans), Stealth +7, Survival +5 (+7 vs. humans, +6 to track)
Languages Common, Dwarven, Elven, Shoanti, Varisian
SQ track, wild empathy
Other Gear Thieves' tools, You have no money!
--------------------
Special Abilities
--------------------
Favored Enemy (Humans +2) (Ex) +2 to rolls vs Favored Enemy (Humans).
Track +1 Add the listed bonus to survival checks made to track.
Wild Empathy +2 (Ex) Improve the attitude of an animal, as if using Diplomacy.

I'd like some feedback from Doc Evil as to whether he'd allow such a build. Really I'm using the ranger class to put together a slightly more robust, combat-oriented rogue. For example, I have misused the Cosmopolitan feat slightly to add acrobatics as a class skill, which definitely requires GM approval, but it feels right for the character to me, since he would probably have grown up in the rooftop community of the Shingles. However if he thinks that it's too much of a fudge, I can just rebuild the character as a rogue.

As for background, the character would have grown up as a Korvosan street-rat, but one who was slightly luckier than most and more capable at defending himself, possibly because of strong ties with a large Varisian family. I will be taking the 'Missing Sibling' campaign trait as hook into the campaign, so in all likelihood he would be searching for a missing younger sister or brother. It's a WIP; I'm not even sure what alignment to take at the moment to best fit in with the rest of the party.

Starting wealth (as ranger): 5d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 3, 1) = 13 x 10gp = 130gp.

Grand Lodge

It might be simpler to take a level of rogue before going into ranger. The two classes synergize well.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

I agree with that. I'd prefer to hold it to one Archetype, but can live with this if it's what you want.

I don't have issues with the acrobatics, as you say with living on The Shingles, but where did Use Magic Device come from?

I had drafted a whole reply to the above about why I wanted multiple archetypes, until I thought about it again and realized that it's a moot point anyway; I probably would be better off simply multi-classing ranger and rogue. :p

As for the Use Magic Device skill; I did say it was a WIP, and I simply forgot to swap that skill for something else when I was toying with the Cosmopolitan feat in Hero Lab. Couldn't decide between that, Linguistics, Appraise or another Knowledge skill when I was bored late last night.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

When I get back from vacation I'll spend a little more time preparing and staffing this thread and see if we want to make a go of it.

So far I have:

Dax - Crux (arcane)
Wolf - Graxton (divine)
Aziza - Sly (traps etc)

This leaves front line melee, ranged killer, and back up healer type still open. I will check in the ROTRL group A thread for final interest before pushing to group B.

Silver Crusade

So.... Any more movement on this front?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

I am just back from vacation and now in the middel of a move but look to get this going soon.

I think that Twigs and Barek have declined and need any answer from Mirela. I will send her a PM.

After that I'll see if any Group B players want open spots.

Thanks for keeping me honest...

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

Caladwhen (Mirela) will also be joining. Not sure what role yet.

Will send the rest to Group B after I see what she submits.

Was thinking of a sorcerer... but now it seems that the only roles open are frontline (playing that), ranged (playing that) and divine healer (playing that).

Kind of sad. I might try to roll with a ranged inquisitor since the party has approx 0 social skills right now, but I don't know if that's a back up healer or ranged character and it's definitely not a character that can mainline heal.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

I think the right sorceror can play ranged killer, can't they? No one says it HAS to be a ranger type.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

Dax and Thorn, will you send up character sheets/aliases so I can start reviewing?

Sorry. I thought I had already posted under this alias.

Liberty's Edge

I decided to go angry Calistrian inquisitoress.

Money: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 6) = 10 x 10 = 100gp

Special Abilities monster lore +3, stern gaze +1

Traits:

Divine Courtesan [Link]
Source Advanced Player's Guide pg. 1
Requirement(s) Calistria
You worked in one of your goddess’s temples as a sacred courtesan, and you know how to flatter, please, and (most of all) listen. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Sense Motive checks and Diplomacy checks to gather information, and one of these skills (your choice) is always a class skill for you.

Drug Addict
Source Curse of the Crimson Throne Campaign Guide
Someone you know has become addicted to shiver, a drug distilled from the venom of dream spiders. The drug induces sleep filled with vivid dreams, during which the user’s body often shakes and shivers, giving the substance its street name. Shiver is particularly dangerous for the desperate, for its promises of dreams and oblivion are often viewed as the only alternative apart from suicide for escaping a dreary life. You’ve always thought of shiver as a problem of the lower class, but then someone you know overdosed on the stuff. You’ve done a bit of investigating and have learned that the one who got your friend addicted in the first place was a crimelord named Gaedren. Unfortunately, the guards seem to be more focused on the bigger dealers. They don’t have time to devote many resources to what they’ve called, “a bit player in a beggar’s problem.” It would seem that if his operation is to be stopped, it falls to you.

~Personal Addiction: You were the addict. You blame Gaedren for your brush with death and hate how his drugs are causing similar problems among other youths. Fortunately, your body recovers quickly from toxins, and you have a +1 bonus on Fortitude saving throws.

I'll have my backstory soon...

Liberty's Edge

Alright, everything should be in the alias. This character really fits the 'ranged killer' archetype after about four levels-- blowing people up from range using impromptu bane arrows and judgment.

Oh! Backstory... I knew I'd forgotten something on Sly's profile. I'll update that tomorrow with a character history and description, now that it looks like we may actually be going ahead with CotCT.

Liberty's Edge

Oh, Aziza. Backstory optional?

I just realized that I didn't answer you. Very sorry for that.

Crux will take all the help he can get to help facilitate his revenge.

Silver Crusade

You guys still looking for a frontliner?

I thought maybe a Cavalier, but I'm not sure how well a Cavalier would work in this AP.

If not I can always go Human Fighter or even Paladin and give you some frontline heavy hitter with a bit of back up healing.

Silver Crusade

Though I know Cavalier isn't core.

Grr... I was trying to post Sly's profile and history, then the internet ate it. Must be the cyber dingoes again; pesky, pesky cyber dingoes.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

I am relaxing my core/non-core requirements. Take Cavalier of you like. I've not seen one played yet.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

Ok so here's our group:

Aziza - Sly - Human Rogue
Dax (Tunder) - Crux - Deformed Wizard
Wolf (Thorn) - Soth - Half-orc Cleric of Gorum
Ice Titan (Smoke) - Viviana - Human inquisitor of Calistra
P33J (Rogar) - Cavalier or front line fighter type
Caladwen (Mirela) - TBD; maybe back up healer?

Was a rough work day, but will try to get review of submitted PC's done tonight/tomorrow.

If you haven't linked a build yet, please do so. I have a feeling we'll start sometime this week, if things go well.

Remember, you need 1 campaign trait from Player's Guide (link to free pdf above) and a backstory that includes your ties to crime boss Gaedran Lamm.

Silver Crusade

I'll be submitting tonight.

Does the group have a preference between Paladin, Weapon Specialist Fighter (build into Hell Knight maybe), or Cavalier

Cotc is an urban campaign so a horse will get very little use IMO. Go paladin, then we can all back up heal!

I still haven't sorted out Sly's background yet; first week of second semester here, and I've been 'volunteered' by my supervisor to give orientation tours for international students around campus. Not a bad thing, just unexpected. Will get to Sly's background tonight.

Kalvin Theordos, Paladin of the Inheritor.

wealth role 5d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 4, 3) = 16 x10 = 160g

I will have skills up in my profile soon.

Backstory is still a work in progress, but basically Local Boy done good.

Liberty's Edge

Yay!

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

Caladwen (Mirela) has decided she can't make RL time to play CotCT with us, so we either have a spot still open, or can run with 5. Like most AP, this is built for 4, so 5 is a good number.

Not sure if you see a need, but if so, I'm certain I can find a player for the 6th spot.

Liberty's Edge

I feel like a 6th is important because of the PbP dropout symptom, but we're less a group of random folks and more hand-picked. I think we'll be okay with 5. What do you guys think?

Rolling for starting wealth as requested:

Starting wealth, rogue: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 2) = 16 x 10gp = 160gp

So capping starting wealth for Sly at 150gp.

Sorry folks, been around, and around, and around...

Lost sight of this here recruitment, but alas I am back to bonk some more heads!

Blades and battle shall be mine! One to share with my companions of the fifteen metal ways.

Cleric of War checking in!

4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 1) = 14 × 10 gp = 140 gp

No worries Dax/Crux. If you want to develop the story some more, or if anyone wants to connect their character to Soth feel free and we can get to embellishing!

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

I'll look him over and send you any build questions. In the meantime, we have our group go ahead and dot in on the discussion tab if you want. May still be a day or two before I get gameplay up. My movers are here today packing up all my stuff so it's a bit hectic.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

Attention! The gameplay thread is now active and the game is afoot. Please head over and read your spoiler and proceed from there. Korvosa needs you, she just doesn't know it yet...

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

Group of 4 characters, looking for 5th for year-long (so far) CotCT campaign game. PC's are all level 3 and nearing the end of the first book of the AP. The group consists of a half-orc priest of Gorum, a paladin of Iomedae, a deformed mage, and an Inquisitor of Erastil.

Someone with skills (especially Disable Device) wanted to join this group. Apply here and the group and I will review and pick the right member.

Posting regularly and good RP skills essential. Long track record of posting a plus, but not a requirement.

Sovereign Court

GM:
How does an alchemist or investigator willing to push the boundaries of morality and mortality sound? I'm thinking of a more skill-centric mastermind who would not be dissimilar to one might consider a villain in the stereotypical antagonistic format, yet at the core, he is not actually evil - rather narrowminded in his goals with an end-justifies-the-means mindset.

Same character generation rules as above? What are you looking for for back story and character motivation?

I've read some of the adventure path and am currently DMing a party through it (they are in the last chapter of part 1.) I am more than capable of keeping out of game knowledge and in-game knowledge separate. Is this an issue?

I'm waiting on an answer from another game tomorrow. If I'm not picked for that one and this isn't an issue, I'll be applying.

I'll leave my questions standing for the benefit of others but since another character I have was accepted to a game today, I'll not be submitting a character for this one. Good luck and may you find the skillmonkey of your dreams! :)

I've begun creation for a Rogue 2/Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1 using the rules above, but I have a couple questions. One of which is what you want us to do for backstory and tie in (campaign trait? A list of Korvosan traits? etc.)? I assume average wealth for 3rd level? And with my level in alchemist, would it be alright if I have a few potions brewed already? What about alchemical items (I have a +10 to craft(Alchemy)?

Dotting for interest with this character, skimming now trough the campaign.

Crunch will need some adjustments, but the concept is the one written in the character profile: a secretive sylph investigator (empiricist archetype) with an obsession for secrets, in particular for Korvosa's famed 'Curse of the Crimson Throne'. Or at least, he was secretive: the kidnapping by the hands of Gaeder Lamm of the son of his landlady started to make him question his life choices (planning to start N and move to NG, and the pally and inquisitor in the party will surely help).

I know that you don't like non-Core options, but I think that the Sylph is a perfect fit for an Investigator: as mentioned, I want to play the race borderline-obsession with prying around.

In the case I get picked, we could say that Whisper has been stalking the party for a long time: it would fit with his personality, and give an in game reason as to why I know what happened to the party so far, without an in-character infodump.

Sorry, but I'll have to bow out. Our play styles are a little too different. :(

I hope that you find another player, and have fun! :)

** spoiler omitted **

It doesn't really seem like that concept will fit in with our group or the adventure path in general. Sorry.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

CReation rules are a bit more relaxed now. You can use any Paizo product as long as you can reference the bits taht I can't find myself. Still no 3PP, please.

WBL for 3rd is appropriate. That's 3000 gp of cash or gear. If you want a few potions or alchemical items made in advance, then just subtract the cost of producing from your WBL.

Yan, you may be the only applicant who has stuck around. If you want to show a concept, you can win by default.

Default? The two sweetest words in the English language! De-FAULT! De-FAULT! De-FAULT!

Sorry. Had to get my Homer Simpson on. Here's the build so far, writing out the background and personality now, also got a few things I'll have crafted before so gear will change. Anything in particular you want me to include in the background to make it easier to introduce me in the game?
