Karthak Ironbreaker |
I take we are positive there's nothing more to be done here, right?
Karthak curses under his breath as he reads the note:"Staunton Vane! I shouldn't be surprised that the despicable betrayer is involved directly in all this but I'll make sure to make him pay for his role in the fall of Kenabres on top of all the other crimes he committed!" then Karthak considers the group's options:[b]"Seems like we're finished down here. Time to climb up. And the only way to do that is probably opening the door we left undisturbed until now"[b] so saying Karthak tries to force the door open, weapon on the ready!
Strength check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Btw does anyone want the ring of protection and/or the potion of barkskin?
lavdi |
In the room with the ouutsider bane sword.
"This...this is a very powerful weapon. We must take it, to use against our enemies here!"
"I agree that we must move upwards, but be ready for anything. We have no idea what new fiends may be around any corner!"
Dakota Bloomingdale |
Btw does anyone want the ring of protection and/or the potion of barkskin?
Dakota already has a ring of protection +1 and the rest of the loot is, as always, too large a size for her. She could be interested in that potion of spider climb though. The potion of barkskin is probably better spent on a frontline fighter.
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
"It is the weapon of your Lady. You should bear it until we can ask Itabeth about it, but the letter here says that she sold it. Ragathiel or some other power has determined that I may wield Radiance, perhaps some power has led you to this holy blade."
I will take some gold to put an enchantment on my existing gear if we get back to camp. I think the bard should take the potions she needs.
Voren the Outsider |
Karthak, as far as I know, my AC is still at 19 due to my mage armor potion. However, when that's gone, my AC will go back to 15. I do have an amulet of natural armor. I'll let someone take it if they needed. I can carry the cure potions. The other potions can be used by the others. The armor and dagger, I think would be better in someone else's hand. However...
When Voren finds the portable alchemist's lab, he immediately becomes excited. "An alchemist kit! This is very useful for me! I would like this!" He becomes a bit downcast. "Even though, it's too heavy for me."
When the team enters the room, Voren is jittery at the sight of the alchemy equipment. It's obvious that he wants to take it. When he sees the tapestry, he tilts his head. "Is there a way to restore this?"
When he reads the note, he says, "So this is Irabeth's sword. She might be happy that we found it. And who is Staunton Vane?"
lavdi |
In alchemist's lair...
"Do not worry, Voren, I, at least, will be more than willing to carry it for you."
"Surely She led me here."
Iavdi sheathes her cold iron sword (may need it) and walks over to the case. Taking the sword out, she holds it straight out and tests its balance before moving on.
"It is a good sword; it will serve me well."
Adding it to my sheet, unless Jokum has anything to say about it? I doubt he'd want it over his +1 greatsword.
Voren the Outsider |
When Iavdi offers to carry the portable alchemist's kit, Voren looks at her. "I wouldn't want you to be slowed down and be ineffective in combat because of me, Iavdi. I mean, it weighs 20 pounds!"
Voren admires the table lab. "There is enough equipment for a full masterwork alchemist's lab. So many potions and items I could create with this. We may need to come back here when we're done to collect this."
When Iavdi admires the sword, Voren nods. "No doubt you'll wield it well."
Karthak Ironbreaker |
Karthak grunts at Voren's question as if hit with a punch in the face:"Staunton Vane... Staunton Vane is a blight on all that's right and good. A creature that once dared call itself a dwarf and a stain I'm going to personally erase from existance!" The the inquisitor moves near Iavdi and points at the Alchemist's lab:"Hand it to me, I can carry it and I won't be slowed..."
I repeat: as a dwarf carry loads are not a huge problem. Speed is 20 feet anyway... :P As for the ring I didn't get if you want it or not Voren
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
"Voren, we need you to make use of this set. Our stout dwarven friend won't even notice it's weight."
"The matter is settled, we are all fully healed. Let us find the shard and be about our business."
"Then, we have more retribution to bring. This crusade is not yet vanquished."
Voren the Outsider |
Karthak, I'll pass on the ring. It's fair for the frontline fighter to take it.
When Karthak describes Staunton, Voren stares at the dwarf in his fervor. "What did he do?"
Voren takes up the portable alchemist's lab and helps Karthak take it, advising him on not jostling it around too much. When he comes to the masterwork lab, Voren turns to Arthas and says, "We can bring this along after the mission. All of the equipment here weighs 40 pounds. There is no way I'm going to way any of you down with this."
Jokum of the Breakbones |
Jokum surveys the captured gear carefully, nodding in approval as Iavdi takes the longsword. "Odd that the demons should be so excited about a sword of this nature...but then, if they can corrupt the crusaders' Wardstone, I suppose this would show no difficulty." Glancing over everything else, his nose wrinkles. "I have no use for any of this, save perhaps the healing potions. Thanks be to Lisandra, though, I need them not at the moment."
When everyone has taken what they're going to take and are gathered around the door once more, Jokum glances back at them. "Ready then? Does anyone have a better idea to open this door than my shoulder being put to it?"
lavdi |
"No, Jokum, feel free to burst it open. But, give me a moment to call upon the Lady's strength, and then we can go."
Casting Bull's Strength, taking her Strength to 20 for 3 minutes the round Jokum opens the door.
"Okay, let's go. Quickly, before her blessing wears off."
Voren the Outsider |
You can take the potions if you want them, Jokum. I haven't added them to my sheet yet.
Karthak Ironbreaker |
Voren: when I built Karthak's background I used the information inside the WotR player's guide, which says very little, besides that Staunton Vhane is a dwarven betrayer of the crusades. Later on I did some research on the web and come up with this Staunton Vhane, but I don't know if using the information therein would be metagaming, so I'll let it mysterious for the moment waiting for the GM to greenlit it
"The less is said the better! Content yourself with knowing he deserves to die a thousand deaths!" Karthak almost screams, clearly upset by finding out about this Staunton Vhane's involvement.
Voren the Outsider |
@Jokum
Voren scratches his chin. "Yes. It's rather strange that demons would be interested in Irabeth's sword. There is a possibility of interest in corruption like with the Wardstone. This requires more digging into."
@Karthak
Voren nods at Karthak's words. "I'll believe you, then."
In general...
Voren prepares himself for what comes up next. He draws his wand of magic missile and bolsters his will.
Karthak Ironbreaker |
"This requires more digging into the demons skulls, using our axes and swords as picks for the occasion!" proclaims Karthak.
Then the dwarf considers the door, that stands unmoved still, despite his efforts:"Very well..." he mutters nodding at Jokum.
"Lad... what would you say if we dealt with this piece of wood the same way we did with the entrance?"
So saying Karthak raises his axe whielding it two handed and strikes down on the door!

Karthak Ironbreaker |
"Nice job! Now let's deal with the rest of this ugly mess!" exclaims Karthak kicking the wreckage he Voren and Jockum did of the reinforced door while adjusting his schield back on his left hand.
Voren the Outsider |
Voren puts the adamantine morningstar away and draws his wand of magic missile again. "Very good. Let's go!"
lavdi |
Her new sword drawn, Iavdi will walk through the door after Karthak.
"Come here, fiends, I want to test my new sword out!"
Remember, Voren, you have to make a DC 20 UMD check to activate the wand.
Voren the Outsider |
Yep. I have the required checks needed to activate things in my alias. Thank you.

TACTICAL SITUATION
There are two images, the first one is the west side of the room, scroll down to see the east side, where you start.
Along one wall of this long room stands a smashed sideboard.
A stone staircase leads upstairs.
A uniformed tiefling screams "Get them! GET THEM!" at a cluster of dretch demons as he scrambles up the stairway. They flinch at his sharp command, then they howl with maniacal glee as they start surging towards you.
Round 1_______________
Players take their turn in order of posting, enemies will go last.
Karthak Ironbreaker |
So, 6 dretches and one fleeing tiefling?
Without a word Karthak charges the Dretch in front of him!
Attack roll: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 2 = 16
Damage roll: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Charge dretch 2 axe is cold iron
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
"I suppose no one thought of just knocking. Now we will have the whole second floor alerted and upon us if he gets away."
Arthas looses an arrow at the fleeing teifling.
1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 7 - 4 = 19
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
"Bring him down!

Damage: 1d8 + 8 + 2d6 ⇒ (8) + 8 + (6, 5) = 27
Oooh, I like this new sword!
Voren the Outsider |
Voren moves closer and points his wand at the nearest dretch.
UMD DC 20: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
However, the wand fizzles out. Frowning, Voren switches his wand to his other hand. He then draws his cold iron heavy mace.
Round 1 Actions
Free Action: 5 foot step
Standard Action: Use wand of magic missile on enemy 3 (and fail)
Move Action: Draw cold iron heavy mace
Jokum of the Breakbones |
Jokum lunges forward, snarling, and looses an arrow at the fleeing tiefling as well.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
If Jokum can get within 30' he does so, adding a +1to attack and damage. I'm a bit unclear--is the tiefling number 1?
Karthak Ironbreaker |
"Yep, I believe he's #1, so Jockum needs to move inside the room, draw the bow while moving and then attack, but he's definitely inside 30'. Let's hope his AC is no better than 15

"<<<Cough!>>> Badger! <<<Cough!>>> The Badger can catch him! Trip him! <<<Cough!>>>!"
Jokum of the Breakbones |
Sadly since tieflings are outsiders I need to "push" Tentak to get him to attack him...I'm assuming that that requires too much focus for being nauseated, but let me know if otherwise, Camris! :D
Karthak Ironbreaker |
Btw Jockum did you assign the bonus trick for attack? If so you don't need to roll to use it but unfortunately you still need to push Tentak to attack ousiders, undeads and the like until you can train his regular tricks
Voren the Outsider |
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Voren moves into the cloud, coughing, but not disgusted by it. "This isn't going to help anyone! *cough**cough* We need to push through or get rid of this cloud!"
