Karthak Ironbreaker |
Karthak chuckles at Jokum's comment:"Not likely. These heaten's style is more about profanation of bodies and cannibalism. Whatever else they might be subtle and cunning they are not"
That said Karthak takes a peek inside the newly discovered room.
Perception check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
DM-Camris |
Entering cautiously, you see that this small chamber, though sealed for what must have been centuries, is free of dust.
A holy symbol of Iomedae hangs unmolested on the wall above a weapon rack filled with swords, crossbows, and spears. Three wooden dummies wear pristine suits of armor. A shelf holds several leather quivers, each stamped with a golden sun. Two silver shields hang from pegs
on the wall.
You see no other exits from this hidden chamber.
lavdi |
A little bit obvious, but Detect Magic?
Iavdi stares in wonder at the stash of holy weapons.
"This...this can be used! I...I've never been so happy to see so many weapons in one place. Quick, is any of it enchanted? We will take what we need, and then seal the door, so that the vile filth that have inhabited this building for far too long shall not find it."
"I must have that holy symbol, for mine was lost several days ago in the chaos of that night."
Note: still have a holy symbol tattoo, her wanting it is just flavor.
Voren the Outsider |
Voren stares in awe at the gear. "Amazing! This could be very useful!" 'Yes. Unfortunately, boy, you're not proficient in any of it,' Ayne says. But Voren ignores her as he does the same chant as before, his eyes taking the same blue glow.
Casting Detect Magic.
DM-Camris |
Detect Magic reveals several sources of magic in the arms and equipment here.
Looking over the secret armory in detail, you find the weapons are gleaming as if polished but moments ago; no sign of corrosion at all. The weapons are solidly built, but all have a Iomedaen symbolic flourish engraved.
Twelve Longswords, three cold iron longswords, a +1 longsword,
Thirteen Shortswords, two cold iron shortswords,
Six heavy crossbows, six composite longbows (+2 Str),
Five Heavy Maces, a masterwork cold iron heavy mace,
Eighteen longspears, two cold iron longspears,
50 cold iron crossbow bolts, 100 cold iron arrows,
5 +1 holy arrows, an arrow of evil outsider slaying.
The armor dummies hold two sets of masterwork chainmail and a +1 breastplate emblazoned with Iomedae’s holy symbol.
The two heavy steel shields are both marked with the holy symbol of Iomedae. One is a masterwork shield, and the other is a +1 blinding shield.
Karthak Ironbreaker |
Karthak whistles:"Nice stash! With any luck this will be of great help in cleansing the place and righting the wardstone situation!"
Whoa, lots of stuff here. Karthak could use a few cold iron bolts (but he has some of his own) and one defensive item, the blinding shield is very good but I'll let iomedeans here have first pick
Jokum of the Breakbones |
Jokum advances cautiously into the room, eyeing everything sideways. After several minutes, he finally picks up the arrows that have been set aside from thee rest and adds them to his quiver.
"I suppose these crusaders had some good ideas...but I still mislike the feel of this place."
Adding the magic arrows to my inventory since no one else seems to want them.
lavdi |
"The Lady has been generous to us today. Thank you, Karthak, for finding this lost cache."
Iavdi sheathes her sword, and slides her shield onto her back before entering the secret room.
She walks over to the holy symbol above the rack of weapons, and reverently lowers it from the wall.
After her companions identified the shields, Iavdi laid her claim on the blinding one.
"I shall take this one. Does anyone object?"
Assuming no one objects...
Iavdi straps the new shield on, holding it out and feeling how it balances.
"Inheritor, we will take this blessed equipment and use it to cleanse this land. I thank you."
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
"I have none. I think you should grace yourself in the arms and armor of your Goddess."
"I would like one of the arrows. It is a good option to have. The rest of you should select a cold iron weapon or a magic one."
"Karthak, can you wear this armor?"
Jokum of the Breakbones |
Jokum shrugs and hands an arrow over. Since you said "one of" I'm assuming you mean the +1 holy? "Let's get what we want and be gone," he rumbles. "We've work yet to do."
Voren the Outsider |
Voren walks up and takes the masterwork cold iron heavy mace. "I'll take this, then." When he carries it, his pack feels heavier on him.
Voren is now carrying a medium load. Also, I'm assuming that it's only a +1 bonus due to masterwork quality.
DM-Camris |
There is a cry and a whump of an alchemist's bomb going off outside the chamber. When you get to the doorway, you see a big tiefling fighting with Lisandra, who appears to be burning.
When he sees you, he launched another bomb that lands in the doorway. Those in the doorway take 5 points fire damage. The fire forms a temporary wall of fire, so you can go through it to get back into the shrine of Iomedae, but it's going to hurt.
Karthak Ironbreaker |
Who was on the doorway?
Seeing the situation get suddenly out of hand Karthak rushes out of the door axe in hand not caring for the fire roaring in front of him!
Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 3 = 23
"Prepare to die, demon scum!"
If possible Karthak engages the tiefling
Voren the Outsider |
I don't know who was at the doorway. But, if it was me, then it has no effect since I have Resist Fire 5. :)
Voren sees the alchemist going crazy with his fire bombs. Voren seems unafraid of the flames. He steps through them, a serious look in his eyes. He glares at the alchemist, his eyes turning pitch black. "You will stop there, alchemist. You will not throw those bombs at my friends anymore."
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Moving closer. Using my Evil Eye hex on the alchemist. -2 to his attack rolls for 6 rounds. Will save DC 15 reduces the duration to 1 round.
Jokum of the Breakbones |
Jokum also lets out an angry bellow. "Get away from her, dog!" With that, he charges through the flames and at the tiefling!
Greatsword Attack, Charge: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 2) + 5 = 13
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
Holding his shield in front of his face to protect it from the flames, Arthas leaps through the doorway to attack the oracle's assailant.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
DM-Camris |
Yes, he's right at max charging distance.
So Karthak, Jokum and Arthas charge through the flames to land hits on him, Iavdi moved through and stopped, and Voren pushed through to Evil Eye him (he saved) but he's still up, jolted back from the hits.
Snarling he tosses a bomb into Arthas' face; 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Dammit! He dropped it on his foot for 3d6+5 fire damage himself, and 8 points fire damage to Lissandra, Arthas, Jokum and Karthak.
Reflex save DC14 or catch on fire boys.
Lisandra falls unconscious.
With unnatural speed, he tumbled through the south doorway.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 Fail. He is eligable for AoO attacks from Arthas, Jokum and Karthak.[/ooc]
You hear him rattling at the locked Western door you passed on the way north.
Jokum of the Breakbones |
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Attack of Opp: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 3) + 5 = 9
Jokum's blade cuts into the blackguard's back as he flees, and the ranger stalks after him, whirling his greatsword, ignoring the flames licking at his legs.
No mercy for this shit. Move up to him, attack. I'm assuming I'll be taking more fire damage for the first failed save, and will need to make another one...
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 1) + 5 = 8
Reflex Save 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
Arthas comes through the flames hurting, but knowing that the Alchemist must be put down or he might bring others down upon them.
Burning brighter than the fire around it, Radience seeks revenge upon its bearer's tormentor.
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
AoO: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 - 2 = 28
threat: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 2 - 2 = 25
2d10 + 8 + 8 ⇒ (2, 6) + 8 + 8 = 24
As the blow strikes home, Arthas knows he has scored a critical hit on his opponent.
"Let-me-preach-his-name!", he cried out while attempting to strike him a second time.
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Regular Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 2 - 2 = 24
1d10 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 4 = 17
"Someone! <<<Arrrggghhhhh!>>> Put out the flames!"
DM-Camris |
That's just ugly. Too many AoO crits and he doesn't even make it to the locked door.
The tiefling alchemist (Othrubo by name) is cut down as he tried to flee to the locked door you bypassed earlier.
It takes another round for you to snuff out the flames (if you were on fire) dealing 1d6 damage along the way. But you finally get the flames out.
You see the door way back at the far east of the shrine is open, probably where he came out.
FemNPC5 |
Lisandra is conscious still, but her fight with the alchemist dealt her a lot of stat damage to con, charisma and dex that you have no way of healing at the moment.
"I'm sorry my friends," she said, shaking her head. "As it stands I am an unacceptable burden to you. I will use this potion of invisibility and make my way back to the Defender's Heart.
"If I can, I will return when cured. But you must not wait for me."
Karthak Ironbreaker |
Karthak nods at Lisandra:"That might be best, yes. Stay sharp on your trip back, there are still lots of demons roaming the town Lisandra, but before you go, could you spare a little healing? This last eathen managed to singe us a little" then he turns to the others:"Good job! Now let's see if there's someone else the way he came from!"
Move to inspect and then enter the door used by this last tiefling. Weapon ready
Perception check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 +2 if to examine unusual stonework
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
1d6 ⇒ 1
Still smoking, Arthas grimaces.
"I was too interested in the chamber. I am sorry you were left alone outside Lisandra. Your sacrifice preserved us. Go knowing you helped get us this far."
Voren the Outsider |
Voren rushes over to Lisandra. "Hold on a moment, Lisandra! Before you go, take this." He takes her hands in his. His eyes glow white. Some of Lisandra's wounds close.
Healing Hex: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11
Affecting Lisandra with my Healing Hex. Cannot be affected by healing hex for 24 hours.
He then inspects the gear of the alchemist, his interest in alchemy showing.
Currently carrying a medium load: max speed of 20 feet, max dex +3, check penalty -3.
Jokum of the Breakbones |
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Jokum hisses in pain as the flames continue to lick at his ankles, but a few seconds after the tiefling has fallen he manages to get them stamped out. As the others tend to Lisandra, he grimaces. Not doing well...I wonder if that potion I have is needful yet, or if I should wait. Despite his worries, he nods stoutly.
"You should return, battered as you are. Be very careful, Lisandra; dark things stalk these ruins now."
Debating use of my potion of CLW...I'm at 21/37. Borderline.
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
I am burnt too. Let's see if Lisandra can burst us before she leaves. We will need our potions later I would think.
lavdi |
I can use some of my actual spells if needed. I have Cure Light as an oracle spell, cured 1d8+3
"I wish I could escort you back to the inn, Lisandra, but we have work to finish here. I will ask the Lady to protect you on your journey, however. Perhaps you could meet up with the other crusaders?"
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
"Here Voren, your burden is too great let me carry your non-essentials."
Arthas moves to lessen the healers load.
Voren the Outsider |
Voren looks up at Arthas from his kneeled position. "Oh... okay. What would you like to take? I don't want to burden you as well."
lavdi |
Oh, didn't realize you were over, Voren's. Seeing as Iavdi is in medium armor, she's already slowed, and encumbrance doesn't stack with armor. She'll be glad to take whatever you don't need.
Arthas Sword of Ragathiel |
"Let's start with those pots and pans and the bedroll."
"Now if we are done, let's seal the vault and proceed."
Voren the Outsider |
Looking at Arthas, Voren removes his bedroll and hands it to Arthas. However, when he takes out his mess kit, he looks at Iavdi. "Would you mind taking my mess kit, Iavdi?"
DM-Camris |
Pausing to listen, it does not sound like your fight roused the rest of the Citadel. You don't hear any alarms or the pounding of armored feet.
Quickly searching the body of the tiefling alchemist, you find:
potions of cure light wounds (2),
potion of cure moderate wounds,
potion of barkskin,
potion of invisibility,
potion of spider climb;
Other Gear,
+1 leather armor,
dagger,
ring of protection +1,
portable alchemy kit,
four silver holy symbols (two of Iomedae, one of Shelyn, and one of Desna)
FemNPC1 |
Lisandra whispered; "Thank you my friends. Gods willing, we will meet again. Now gather together..."
She makes you stand in a ring as she Channels Positive Energy on you all thrice for 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3) = 15, 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1) = 8, and 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1) = 10 points of healing.
With that, she drinks her potion of invisibility and departs through the front door.
DM-Camris |
Tracking back through the door the tiefling came through, you see:
A long table and six chairs have been pushed against the western wall.
On the opposite wall, a tapestry depicting a map of Mendev hangs from a silver rod—the tapestry has been slashed several times and splashed with filth.
A bedroll sits on the floor, and on the nearby table is an array of alchemical devices and a long wooden sword case wrapped with cords, as if ready for travel.
The alchemical equipment on the table consists of a masterwork alchemy lab, but the contents of the plain-looking sword case are likely of more interest, for inside can be found a +1 evil outsider bane longsword.
A small note on a piece of parchment tucked into the case is reproduced HERE
