Thanks for making the list, Gideon. Saves me the trouble. :)

I'm leaving recruitment open for one more day, then we can decide. Yes, I would ask you please give your feedback on which character/player you think would be the best fit for the game.

Still need Tobar's actions for this round, btw.

Sure thing! I was happy to do it. I'm having a hard time picking just one favorite; I'll probably send you two or three along with my reasons for choosing each one, if that's alright.

Works for me.

I've closed submissions for recruitment. Everybody please PM me your favorite choices and I'll make my decision once I hear from you all.

Forgive the intrusion, just amending the previous list:

1) Haji, LG Half-Elf Paladin/Inquisitor

2) Cathyriel, NG Half-Elf Cleric

3) Brognan, N Elf Wizard/Pathfinder Savant

4) Ionus, LG Human Cleric/Hellknight Signifer

5) Saeros, NG Elf Oracle

6) Calamity, N Halfling Hedge Witch

7) Varloo, N Skinwalker Cleric/Sorcerer

8) Delavandis, N Human Cleric

9) Udaya Udas, LG Aasimar Cleric/u-Monk

Terana, you only get one attack roll this round since you are staggered.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Rats! That was the one word I missed in that description. Guess 30 damage will have to do.

Can I use the second roll if I get an AOO?

Yes, that's fine.

I just PMed you my thoughts on the submissions, Brainiac.

Thanks! I got Terana's earlier, just need Tobar's now.

Don't have time to update the gameplay thread now, but I will do so in the morning.

Gideon, I sent you another PM.

I forgot to include the potion of fly among the hag's possessions.

What amount of time does it take to make a Know check? Is it kind of an instantaneous thing? I ask because I just activated my last use of AL for the day and I've technically got two rounds of the bonus left that I can use for those checks if I can.

A check to recall knowledge is usually a free action. Some checks may take longer to perform, such as when you are referencing a book or performing research.

I'll let you use the bonus on this check. It's just one, by the way--if you roll high enough you may look at both spoilers.

Welcome to the game, Cathyriel! I hope that your read-through doesn't take terribly long. It's certainly been a very active game for the most part, which I'm very glad for. This is only the second PBP I've ever been in that actually made it all the way through the second book in the AP and it's been a blast so far. I'm looking forward to gaming with you!

Nice to meet you Cathyriel. I'm looking forward to having another girl to keep the boys in check!

We're right at the end of book 2 so you'll be arriving at the start of book 3 I imagine.

Background Skill Points: +3

Feat: ??

Spells: +1 1st level (??), +1 3rd level (Haste, ??)

Kinda wanted to get some feedback on the Feat and 1st-level spell choice. I was initially thinking I'd pick up Arcane Strike for some extra attack oomph, but activating it is a swift action, so I couldn't turn on that and Archaeologist's Luck in the same turn. Granted, they would stack for rounds 2 and 3, but it's still a thing to keep in mind.

I was also thinking about Extend Spell. I've never really been much for metamagic feats, but I have a decent number of buff/debuff spells and I feel like the option of doubling their run time could be very helpful in the future.

As for third level spells, Haste is a no-brainer; I'm also seriously thinking about Good Hope as a communal Heroism, but it's duration is definitely something to consider. Other options that might be worth looking at are Dispel Magic, Major Image, and Slow. So...just wanted some of you guys thoughts on 3rd-level Bard spell options.

INACTIVE - GAME DIED

Good hope is a very solid choice, though now that we're getting a cleric with bless maybe less so. Crushing despair is an excellent counterpoint. Displacement is a very powerful defense.

Feat-wise, Reach Spell may be useful if you ever find yourself needing to cast a healing spell or buff on someone but you can't get next to them. You might also enjoy Amateur Investigator, as it would further improve your knowledge abilities. You might use Disconcerting Knowledge to also get more use out of knowledge abilities in combat.

Thanks everyone!

@Terana: looking forward to gaming with you as well. Cathyriel isn't a terribly 'girly' girl (she's a product of the military after all) so don't get your hopes up too far :) We'll see where character development takes her.

@Gideon: Arcane Strike is a really handy feat, but it needs 'reactivating' every round since it has no duration*. If you have other uses for a swift action (sounds like you do) then that's definitely a consideration.

*you can use Combat Stamina to increase the duration - and if you don't have the Combat Stamina feat I highly recommend it. It's something I didn't have room for (damn clerics have too few skill points and too few feats!) but am definitely considering for my level 9 feat, assuming we survive that far! :D

I confirm I have taken Bless, but don't have room for Dispel Magic (I took Communal Resist Energy instead because it's a life-saver).

Terana isn't either! She's out in front keeping the boys safe and kicking butt! But they do have a terrible habit of getting distracted! Having someone else to stop Gideon rushing off to the first library he finds will help!

I'd say Dispel Magic - it's just too useful. Good Hope is nice, but with the duration on Heroism...

I'm a recent convert to the school of Spell Penetration - the amount of times my casters have been hosed by it recently makes me think that effort invested in it is no bad thing! Also SR becomes more common the higher level we get...

Level up will come at some point today.

Female U Rogue (Eldritch Scoundrel) 1 I HP 9/9 I AC 14 [T 14 FF 10] I Fort +1 Ref +4 Will +2 I Init +5 I CMB +0 CMD 14 I I Perception +6

Heh. Cathyriel has tended to burn libraries (you take out a devil-binding wizard, you sure as hell don't take any chances with his books) - the novelty of encountering a library with books you might actually want to read might distract her, too :D

My casting stat isn't high enough to reliably throw debuff spells, so SR won't (shouldn't?!) be an issue for me. I'm a buff specialist, melee fighter and healbot in approximately that order

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

Hey...don't hate! Gideon's helped educate all of you troglodytes on quite a number of things that you'd have lost out on otherwise.

I'll go with Haste and Dispel Magic for my spells. I hadn't considered Spell Pen, but you make a good point about how SR is more common as your level goes up. Most of the spells I have at this point are buffs, with only a couple or three debuff/battlefield control spells. I'd like to trade out several of my spells that are overlapping...I have two first-level spells that are no longer useful because they've either been superceded (Vanish/Invisibility) or because we're too high a level to affect anything with them (Sleep). Is the supply ship going to be docked long enough to do some spell retraining with any arcane casters that are on the ship? Can I tell you what spells I want to lose and you make a roll to see if someone on board can cast them or something?

You won't really have any downtime since you'll be heading off on the trail of the faceless stalkers almost immediately. I'll let you pay the cost to retrain your spells and just waive the time requirement. You can swap out whichever ones you'd like to.

Character profile has been updated. Haven't had a chance to do gear yet, but I will either tomorrow night or Saturday morning. I have added a picture of Gideon to the profile, though, if anyone wants to look!

Well, we haven't really had time for a breather since we fought those nutso gillmen way back when, so there's not really been a chance to look at loot. Now that there is, I've gone back through all those posts and pulled out all the loot we've found. I've got to be going to sleep, so if someone wants to add it up before I get to work in the morning, feel free; otherwise I'll take care of it in seven-ish hours. I know Weyve had claimed the mithral chainmail, but with him out of the game, I didn't know if we wanted to reclaim his chainmail or what. I didn't price the healing potions; they're staying with us! Listed gear values are retail; needs to be halved for selling price.

Also, did the wayfinder we find on the Carver imposter have an ioun stone in it? And Tobar, I don't think we ever came to any firm decision on what to do with the mossy oak disc ioun stone we found that adds to Know(Eng) checks. If you still don't want it, Gideon will take it. Need to put that ioun gauntlet to use (finally).

Brainiac, you specifically mentioned her "starry cloak" in one or two of your posts in the hag-fight; was it not a magical item, too? I ask because you didn't mention it as a loot item.

Cathyriel, you're officially a member of the group, so if there's anything on that list you wanna claim, feel free!

Female U Rogue (Eldritch Scoundrel) 1 I HP 9/9 I AC 14 [T 14 FF 10] I Fort +1 Ref +4 Will +2 I Init +5 I CMB +0 CMD 14 I I Perception +6

Good work Gideon - and thanks :)

I think I'm the only one that can cast Restoration so it makes sense to have that scroll. The same might go for Delay Poison? I admit I'm not well up on the Paladin or Bard spell lists so if either of you can cast those then feel free to take them.

The Spellguard Bracers could be helpful if I have to heal in-combat, but they're quite expensive so if someone else wants them then go for it. (Cathyriel was pre-built at full WBL for level 7, thanks to DM Brainiac's generosity.)

At some point I would love to get her +2 chainmail upgraded to mithral, it would make her a lot faster and able to act as a combat medic; but I'll stick with her magic armour over the mithral for now.

EDIT: also, I've just realised how much Cathyriel dislikes fire as a weapon - there's no way she'd carry alchemist's fire. If it's allowed I'd like to swap out the ones I pre-bought for her with acid instead (it's basically an anti-swarm defence so any area stuff should work the same) - hope it's not to late to make some minor changes, DM!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

There's literally nothing in there that interests me! I'll have to think about whether Terana needs any other gear we can buy. I think its mostly a matter of upgrading what she has at this point...

The starry cloak is an oracle revelation Gideon (I'm running this AP too!)

@Cathyriel - when I turned up they promptly gave me a +1 Seabourne Glaive and bought me magical full plate, so don't worry. We have a track record of being generous to the new people!

Also Level is nearly done. Nothing at all exciting - I get one more use of Smite Evil and +1 BAB, everything else is window dressing. I am taking a rank of linguistics so that Terana can speak giant and chat to Aeroclyse though.

@Brainiac - am I ok to take Aeroclyse on as a project? As a paladin I feel that ensuring he can become a productive member of our community would be worthwhile. Are there rules, or will this just be RP?
Second - am I still ok to take a modifed version of 'Sin Seer' that will let me cast 'Detect Abberation' rather than 'Detect Undead'?

@Everyone - linked to that, are we likely to be able to get and then use a scroll of regeneration? Having Aeroclyse around would make the colony much safer! If not now I can take Mercies that will do it at level 12...

The false Carver's wayfinder did not have an ioun stone in it. As Terana mentioned, the hag's "cloak of stars" was an oracle revelation that gave her an armor bonus to AC.

Aeroclyse does speak Common if you want to change your skills, Terana. You can work on redeeming him later if you'd like, though it will likely be a while since you're about to leave the colony for the next adventure. We can handle it with RP.

You can still take the modified Sin Seer feat.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

I'll take Giant anyway - speaking to him in his own language will help! Besides, I like the image of the six foot gillwoman and the nine foot cyclops talking giant!

Is Weyve's armor going with him or is it gonna go back into the party treasury? I might claim it if the latter.

Somebody else is welcome to claim it.

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

One more question; I know I'm asking a lot about gear and stuff, and you've already said there's a 1,000 GP limit, but could we roll or something and see if the ship has a Handy Haversack they'd sell? Gideon's gear weight is gonna be an issue very, very soon and I'd like to go ahead and get ahead of it if at all possible.

You can buy a haversack from them.

Sold and thank you!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

I make the sellable total of everything that isnt a scroll or potion to be 19,332.6gp.

That means in a four way split 4833.15gp each. Weyve presumably takes his share in money (and exchanges unneeded gear for money) Leaving the rest of us free to take whatever we want from the list or cash. This does include the Spellguard Bracers, so if Cathy is going to have those then we each drop 625gp.

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

The mithral chainmail Weyve has would give me an additional 1 to my armor class if I kept it. Would that be worth me hanging on to?

Almost seems like I'd be better off keeping that steel shield with the star and swirl pattern instead. It's worth a lot less to the party fund but would improve my AC more, with the downside of it no longer being able to easily switch to the bow.

Keep in mind that though the mithral chainmail counts as light armor in most regards, it doesn't for the purposes of proficiency. So if Gideon wears it, he'd still take the -2 armor check penalty to his attack rolls and skill checks involving movement.

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

Oh yeah! I'd forgotten about that part of the rules. So definitely toss the chainmail into the kitty. I still wanna hang on to that shield, though. That's the kind of thing that Gideon would keep just for the historical value of it, regardless of its practical value.

Another question. Geez...I ask as many as Gideon himself does...is it possible to modify a standard shield to turn it into a quickdraw shield? That would make that shield a great deal more usable to me; I've tried looking for the answer to that question but I can't find anyplace where someone's asked it.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Not by RAW I think, but I imagine you give it to Luetwin and pay the difference he'd be able to do it for you.

Yeah you can pay the difference to have it modified. Koloshkora will return with your items about the same time that it is finished.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

I say we wait then.

What are we looking for magically at this point? I could use more weapon enhancements and/or bane but that's going to be very expensive at this point...

I can pay for +2 armour if Kolokoshora can sell me some sort of magic do-dad that will upgrade my current set for the difference in cost?

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

I'll go ahead and leave the shield with Luetin. I don't use it right now; I'm still using the darkwood buckler. I have no issues with letting him keep this one until we are back.

Just realised I never did reply to this - thanks for doing the math, btw!

If the group is agreeable I think it would be sensible to take the Spellguard Bracers. I know it means a drop in cash, but that bonus to concentration (and the re-roll) could make all the difference if I'm trying to get a cure spell on someone who's in melee.

I'm fine with Cath taking the spellguard bracers. I moved some cash onto my sheet and spent some to make my crossbow magical.

If you guys would be cool with it, I wanna keep the +1 shield for Gideon, too. The salable value for it is 504.5; that would further divide the loot share by 126.125 gold per person.
