Did you want to do anything else while in town, or are you ready to head back to the marsh?

Turns out that we've actually found very little since the last loot update; that was just after we fought the sahuagin. Since then, we did the underground cavern where we fought the blast shadows, then met with the strix, went to Bonetown and the edge of the swamp, then came back here.

The only loot we found in that time was the sapphire in that circlet underground, worth 875 GP, the ioun gauntlet that Gideon claimed, and the mossy disk ioun stone that was in it. We also have that tourmaline sphere ioun stone that no one ever laid claim to. Its benefit is that, if you're dying, you treat your CON as if it's two points higher for the death threshold. If we decide we don't want that, it's worth 500 GP selling.

The mossy disk ioun stone that was in the ioun gauntlet grants a +5 competence bonus on Know(Engineering) checks; I don't want to be greedy and run around claiming everything under the sun. Tobar is the only other character with ranks in Know(Engineering), so it's yours if you want it, dude.

Well, Tobar has an interest in mechanisms and gears and springs and such, but I don't have a good way to hang onto an ioun stone right now (no wayfinder or whatnot) and I don't recall using the skill too much so it's not a necessity or anything.

If I recall, you don't have to have a receptacle for an ioun stone. You just let them float in the air around you.

I know, but that's:

1. Susceptible to them being stolen by enemies
2. Dorky looking

Terana will wear them if no-one else will, then Tobar doesn't have to worry about looking Dorky Cool until he needs it. :)

Gideon definitely would wear the gauntlet and the stone, but I feel like I've been calling dibs on a lot of stuff for him and I don't wanna be greedy about it.

A scroll of delay poison for each of us would cost 625 gp, counting Oorka. Can Gideon owe someone the gold for his scroll? He's a bit low at the moment. Unless y'all wanna just try and trade him that gem we found for the scrolls, but that would also come out in his favor by 250 gold and I'm not sure that we like Kurvis that much. :P

INACTIVE - GAME DIED

I can float cash for Gideon.

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana still has precisely 0 money... is that a problem? :)

She earns 1gp for every hit point she loses defending the rest of the party right?

So, ready to buy the scrolls and head back to the swamp?

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

That plan has my thumbs-up!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Sure :) says the Paladin with no money!

INACTIVE - GAME DIED

Ok how much am I spending exactly?

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Hey Everyone, I'm away for the next twelve days in Florida - going to Disney World for the first time!

I won't be able to check my games while I'm away so I'm on pause until the 10th (or possibly the 11th if I'm too jet-lagged!).

Please feel free to bot me as the situation requires! [And definitely use a smite or two if need be - I don't know how easy it will be to hit them otherwise...]

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

I had a post casting Glitterdust but I deleted it because I remembered that wisps have spell immunity. Would that still apply even against Glitterdust, since the spell isn't targeting the wisp directly but only the area the wisp is in? If it would still be visible I'll re-post that action but I don't want to waste the spell if it wouldn't do anything.

Of course, if that's something that Gideon wouldn't know himself, I'll repost the action then, too. Not trying to meta-game here.

Glitterdust doesn't allow spell resistance, so it will work.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Someone get me some space to work with! :)

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

So...taking this OOC for a minute. We've been rightly and truly screwed in fights before, but at this point, we've all taken a bare minimum of 19 damage; Terana is taking 30 and will be stunned, Oorka is knocked out, and we haven't even started fighting yet.

Realistically, what are our options here? I'm tempted to try and hold out for that one round Terana is stunned and then run. I don't think this is a fight we can hold our ground on and win, as we are. Thoughts?

EDIT: Wait wait! Gideon agreed to cast Heroism on Terana again before we entered the cave complex! Terana, did you remember that +2 on your saves? You'd make the fort save with that.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

I couldn't remember if I did get the buff or not, so I didn't include it. I didn't use it for the entire last fight either... *facepalm*

This could help!

Also - can we try and get Terana a shield? If I'm going to end up holding choke-points a lot it would help!

Yay, heroism!

Single File marching order should always include a gap behind the lead and second man, to allow for a 5' step back if necessary.

The smite evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time the paladin rests and regains her uses of this ability. At 4th level, and at every three levels thereafter, the paladin may smite evil one additional time per day, as indicated on Table: Paladin, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level.

Since my target isn't dead, and I haven't rested/regained uses of the ability I don't think the first one ends? Which suggests I could have multiple active smites...

The rules aren't very clear because they wrote it for when the pally only has one smite and its therefore a non-issue, but I'd expect a clause to the effect of 'a paladin can only have one active smite at a time' if it was a thing.

I'm fine with taking the smite back though :)

Ah, perhaps you're right. I haven't looked at the paladin's write-up in a long time. Carry on, then!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Weyve, can you move the fireball onto the gillman that's still standing? I wanna get the cleric.

Remember there is still grease there, though. You'd have to make a DC 10 Acrobatics check and move at half speed or fall prone.

Balls! Big, flaming, greasy balls!

The grease is a magic effect though, so I can dismiss it if I want to, right?

Yes, you can dismiss it as a standard action.

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

Taking this to the Discussion thread again since Weyve made the suggestion...is bugging out the best way to end this encounter (for now)? I know that Terana just got into melee, but withdrawing is an option and I can always lay down another Grease to cover a retreat. I've still got most of my first-level spells, but with our healer pretty much tapped out, I'm not convinced staying and fighting is a good option.

Just to make my thoughts clear...I think we should withdraw. Heck, we should've withdrawn this round rather than press the fight against a caster and her pet. I'm out of 2nd level spells myself, and though I can still use CLW a few times, it's not gonna be enough to get us out of this encounter. Bug out and use that flaming sphere to plug the bottleneck cover our retreat. I can use Vanish to give anyone who wants it 30 seconds of invisibility, too. I still have enough 1st level spells to cover the whole party.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

I think the problem is getting Oorka out. I have enough HP to play rearguard but who carries Oorka in that case? Also, what stops them pursuing us, particularly the bug thing with the teleporting? I agree we might be able to split them up, but I don't think at this point we can guarentee a clean get away...

If someone communicates to Terana she will fall back though :)

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

Well...being a young trix, Oorka probably doesn't weigh that much. Two of us could split her weight if we need to. That would leave Terana a hand free to pick up her glaive, too, as we're falling back. I can hold an action to let Terana full-round withdraw, then drop a Grease on the floor again to slow the ones still in that chamber, if we think it's necessary. I still have the option of casting Vanish as we retreat, too, so that at least some of us stand a better chance of getting away.

We're on a fresh round now, so we should take this time to really make the retreat as loss-less as possible. Even if the bug thing does follow us, taking care of it, alone, will be easier than taking out the rest of the gillmen with it.

I think Terana should withdraw and pick her glaive up on the way by, if Brainiac would allow her to grab her weapon as she's running by. I'll drop another Grease on the floor after Terana is past the bottleneck, then Weyve can park the flaming sphere on top of the grease as a further reason not to pursue; the flames would probably help visually obscure our retreat, too. The two of us would have a move action each left to start getting out. Tobar could grab Oorka then and take a move action to start getting out. Next round, everyone full-round withdraws and continues to until we're not in immediate danger. If we need to add five-foot steps to get out of melee with the bug so we can cast, it'll add a round before the running starts, but it still allows the running to start.

Thoughts?

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

It works. Drastically against Terana's character to run away like this but sometimes needs must!

INACTIVE - GAME DIED

Well, I think only Terana can hurt the bug-monster-thing. I know that I have no way to kill it.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

We all need to swap really. You lot mug the gillmen and I'll take the bug! :D

Well...it seems like the vote is to fight. No guts no glory I suppose! How much damage has the cleric taken?

33 after that crit. She is hurting.

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

Seeing the others continuing the fight despite the damage they've taken, and Oorka's unconscious form lying near him, Gideon curses again. "Dammit! Sinashakti, guide my shot here!" he says, voicing his inner thought as he calls on the empyreal lord of explorers.

Five-foot step into the bottleneck to get within PBS range of her, then shoot. Activating my last AL for the day, too.

Shortbow Attack+PBS+AL+Bless: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 1 + 3 + 1 = 31
Shortbow Damage+PBS+AL: 1d6 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 3 = 10

Looks like you put this in the wrong throws, Gideon. You can use these rolls though.

INACTIVE - GAME DIED

Ooo, too bad that's in the wrong thread.

Weyve is quite happy taking the mithral chainmail.

Does the +1 rapier work for Gideon?

Weyve suggested camping in this cave. Gideon suggested heading towards the nearest friendly place, which would be Vriskirsa's lair on the east coast. Which route would you like to pursue?

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

Hmm. The rapier would probably work for Gideon, sure. As for which route to pursue, it probably would be safer to camp in the cave; I'd just suggest that we block the entrance as much as we can to make sure that unfriendlies can't get to us as easily. And clean out the bodies of course.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Stay in the cave. IF you guys let Terana cat nap for four hours then I can keep watch the rest of the time and just use LoH to clear the fatigue afterwards! ;)

And now the fateful question: Do I take gunslinger 6, or do I multiclass into something else like inquisitor or slayer?

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

What does gunslinger 6 get you? Is it worth the switch to slayer - good skills, Studied Target, good saves and BAB. Slayer has a lot going for it!

INACTIVE - GAME DIED

Higher levels of gunslinger have a few perks but they're generally kinda lackluster. Inquisitor would give me some spells and powers, but it hits my BAB. Slayer could give me continued strong BAB, hit points, and eventually some talents and sneak attack, which is really strong, hence why I'm considering it.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Slayer looks like a nice way to go then - its probably the single best class out there for a non-spellcasting and it sure isn't gonna hurt.

Terana is done up to Pally 6 now :) No multi-classing here!
