Total Acquisition Modifier +10 to -19= 30 Commerce opposed roll.
Total Acquisition Modifier -110 to 130= 60 Commerce opposed roll.
Starting with just a couple to make sure I get it right, before updating the table to suit current PF and Commerce skill. I also commit to hosting the full table on my profile if AK wants to free up some campaign info space.
Navis Commerce is 58, assume average roll of 50 means just success
Add one bonus degree of success from Seeker of Lore.
TAM +10 to -19 is Commerce 30
Average roll of 50 is Failure, with two extra degrees
Therefore degrees of difference are 4 - and PF modification is 8
Base PF = 34 +8 = Modified PF of 42
TAM -110 to 130 is Commerce 60
Average roll of 50 is Success, with one extra degree
Zero degrees of difference - PF modification is 0
Base PF = 34 +0 = Modified PF of 34
Is that right AK?

Proposed table that I'll add to my character sheet:
Navis Commerce: 58 = Success, with bonus degree from Seeker of Lore
Base Profit Factor: 34
Modified PF Table:
TAM = Total Acquisition Modifier
TAM : Merchant Commerce : Deg of Fail / Success : PF Adjustment : Final PF
+110 to +81 : 15 : F with 3 : +10 : 44
+80 to +41 : 20 : F with 3 : +10 : 44
+40 to +11 : 25 : F with 2 : +8 : 42
+10 to -19 : 30 : F with 2 : +8 : 42
-20 to -39 : 35 : F with 1 : +6 : 40
-40 to -59 : 40 : F with 1 : +6 : 40
-60 to -79 : 45 : F : +4 : 38
-80 to -99 : 50 : S : +2 : 36
-100 to 109 : 55 : S : +2 : 36
-110 to 130 : 60 : S with 1 : 34
Minimum TAM for auto success is +56
Maximum TAM before auto failure is -40
Example Acquisition Layout:
Acquisition X/Y:
Five Common Inferno Grenades (ItS p116)
TAM = Trivial (+20) Common (0) Rare (-10) = +10
Modified PF 42 +10 = 52: 1d100 ⇒ 86 - failure

No complaints here. I just had this vastly different idea in my head that, in retrospect, doesn't fit the governor's description all that well. It's just what I had stuck in my head.
As for Blitz, I just kind of pictured Harrison Ford last in the last game and kept that idea. Though I can't remember if we saw him long enough to get an actual description. All I remember is that he was a scoundrel. ;)

A note on dice rolls-
I've had this conversation over IM with one player but I think better I do it here for posterity.
You should always assume a roll is Challenging (+0) unless I have specified otherwise.
With that in mind, please always include (or edit in) whether you have passed, failed and the degrees to which you have done so. Failing that, at least include the TN (target number).
You can also "name" the dice tag to say what roll it is, include the TN, or even the degrees of success/failure.
As an example of a re-roll of Silas' last check-
Charm (TN47, Fail With 4 Degrees): 1d100 ⇒ 95
This is achieved simply by adding an = tag to the dice prefix-
[dice"=Example (Remove the "'s to function)]1d100[/"dice]
Leaving a dice roll with no other denoters adds to my already impressive workload- especially when I don't always know without checking if the skill is trained, if you are Talented in it... this will only get more complex over time at higher ranks.
I'm really enjoying the game so far and we're coping very well with 8 players, but I am a stickler for format etc. to make the management easier.
Many thanks in advance.

I think we better negotiate for more lenient victory conditions. Defending against orks may require us to sacrifice portions of the planet so that we can save the whole. Also the PF we spend on our troops should be considered as PF invested in the planet's defense.
Navis Yosarni |
Silas - 'more lenient victory conditions' wasn't one of the options. We have the choice of 'better base rewards' or 'additional rewards for excellent performance'.
And I don't think we can expect any tangible and lasting benefit from investiture of PF in the effort - beyond potentially making the endeavor easier for us.
Iago Elias McKie |
I'm not sure that's actually an option. Game mechanics-wise, our options are for the base reward to be higher than +2 PF or for it to take less than 100 points to earn extra PF. The second could be *really* good. Both are only good if we're successful. The first is simpler and more straightforward. Given we're a little desperate on PF, I'd suggest that our crew would almost certainly gamble. But at this point, I think that's up to Silas.
As to PF use, the upside is that achievement points will be easier to get (which directly adds to our success and end reward). The downside is that if we need to get anything for ourselves (personally or ship/crew related) it'll be significantly harder.
Edit: Yeah, what Navis said. :)
Navis Yosarni |
Hopefully that should tie in a bit better with the Governor as well, as we could spin it that it doesn't come directly from his pocket - rather that he could sub-extort it from his constituencies etc.
Holding off posting by proxy for Ludicus - but I would suggest he attempts the following as his Interaction roll.
Intimidate (TN 40 +10 = 50):
Another +10 potential if Silas' Scholastic Lore roll applies; or Ludicus can attempt his own with a TN of 40.
Alexander Kilcoyne |
As Navis and Iago said, more lenient victory conditions are not an option.
However, Navis is mistaken about the invested PF. Not only will it make your endeavour potentially easier, it will also grant additional PF upon endeavour completion. Damaris would reimburse your sacrifice... with interest.
I had forgotten that Ludicus was absent. But it still made the most sense to direct the question at him as it led on from Iago's mention of his mastery of strategy. I'll bot his response.
Navis Yosarni |
Yeah I kind of mangled my words there - what I meant was that it wouldn't result in tangible material benefits (as in more shooty or stabby bits for our underlings).
As to investing PF I'm for it in this instance... we'll need to be creative / lucky when it comes to any interim acquisitions, but fortune does indeed favor the brave.

Silas, we should probably decide now how much PF we're willing to "invest" in the defense of Damaris. My suggestion is the full 15. Unless someone *really* needs to make an acquisition beforehand and we think it'll make a significant difference.
Iago Elias McKie |
I'm not sure that will be an option. Though, of course, that's up to AK. I got the impression that the "downside" to investing will be a lower PF when making acquisitions on the planet. But I could be wrong.

Aye - good luck with the storms Silas.
For clarity - Navis will take care of describing how we:
Spending vast money on Damaris industry, you will be able to pull vast amounts of workers away from agriculture and into industry to boost production. This will translate to stronger defences on all of Damaris' outer walls, for a cost of 4PF.
I'd suggest that other parties could 'own' the other PF investitures and work in the spending of the money to their following actions, etc. I would also wager that it would help at the later gala where we can use the evidence of investing to assist in swaying the other parties to be supportive rather than argumentative.
Also we have nine persons to schmooze tonight:
Rogue Trader Jaramiah Blitz ?
Rogue Trader Elizabeth Orleans Silas Tyr?
General Dante (head of the 'Highland Levy' planetary defence force) Iago Elias McKie?
Commander Reynolds (Head of the Damaris system Defence Fleet) Ludicus Marleno?
Lord-Captain Sylvia Locke ?
Bishop Arint (custodian of the shrine of Saint Drusus) Irena Tyr
Tech Priest Hadron Shard (master of the forge-district) Varius Kavro
Marshal Solaria Thrace (leader of the 'Magistratum' - the Damaris police force) ?
Chief Astropath Kevil Staysis Arannis Crane
I've provisionally matched up suggested schmooze partners, feel free to embellish or discard as you see fit. I'm happy to schmooze multiples if needed, and fit around anyone else's preference.
