Journey to Limecracker Hovel

51 to 100 of 108 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Backstory is below,

Lijan van Histoff (a half-elf) was born at the less "Colonial" side of the Empire of Alodoa to a normal family to a human Blacksmith father and a healer elf, being raised by his parents to be a young educated man so he could in a time become a noble and have what entitles a one (riches fame and honor).
But alas, he made his choice to join army to make a name for himself and fight for the greater good.
The service at the army was a tough one, He served at the Kingdom of Harrispania, protecting it with fellow soldiers against the frequent infestations of monsters.

2 things made him quit the army.
The first
He lost one of his friends in a battle, they had to flee and leave him, know one knows what happened to him, he is assumed KIA.

The second
After some time (5 years) in the service in the military he learned to despise some forms of authority going his way toward self-fulfillment because he saw some instances of corruption and incompetence in the army.

After quitting the army he went to the Solution Society, wanting to do something a little bit different, he was accepted.
He was in a mission where some mistake by his comrades caused some troubles to the Solution Society.

He was given redemption and a chance to join the Wrecking group to show that he is worthy to stay.

Phew, finally finished my character submission. Made a human bard, heading toward the Valor bardic college. A very versatile character that would fit well into any party. :)

Since I rolled pretty good stats, I decided to make that part of his backstory: he's naturally gifted, to the point he assumed he would succeed at anything he tried, and therefore didn't take his first Solution Society mission seriously, and blew it bad. (That's right, I made the guy whose fault it is that all the other players are now face-to-face with the Wrecking Crew supervisor!)

Here's a copy-paste of the backstory I put in my character profile:

-------------------------

Perry is a minor noble, heir-apparent to a well-established family. He's been strong, healthy, and talented ever since he was born; nearly everything he's tried has not only been successful, but downright easy. He excelled in swordsmanship classes, mastered all manner of social graces, and took to magic like a fish to water; he even managed to master spells from more than one discipline! Comfortable in his talent and achievement, Perry grew fond of excitement and adventure, knowing he would always be able to handle whatever he encountered.

Then he ventured out into the real world.

Perry joined the Solution Society for no other reason than it sounded fun. However, his overconfidence was his downfall: he didn't take his first assignment seriously, and it was a disaster. For the first time in his life, he was scolded, reprimanded, and considered a failure. This served as a massive reality check for Perry; though he still knows his own capabilities, he nevertheless struggles with worries that he will let his house down. His ego has shrunk dramatically, and he now wishes to do whatever it takes to redeem himself and prove that (as long as he truly applies himself) he is indeed a talented and capable heir to House Lalomaundriale.

Let’s see if I can figure out the applications so far

Player – Character – Class –Race – Origin – my response

1) Dennis Harry – Victor von Gladden – Fighter –Human – Alodoa – I like it, I think you are in

2) Jiggy – Perivius “Perry” Lalomaundriale – Bard – Human – Alodoa I like it, I think you are in

3) Nohwear - ? - ? - ? - ? Are you still interested?

4) DaWay - ? - ? - ? - ? – Looking at your list, so as to keep you from generating a new alias I think a Sorcerer or a Warlock would be a good addition to this party, if you are still interested

5) Scranford - ? - ? – Cleric – Dwarf – Baylor The group could use a cleric or two, I like the concept and could give you more information about what we are doing with the Dwarven Pantheon if you are still interested

6) Peachbottom – Ayita First to Dance – Monk – Elf (wood) – Harispania (A group of Iarishean Elves who left their homeland a few generations ago, after being unhappy with the Iarishean Government and their treatment of the Halffling people, these “Wood” elves as they call themselves are a simpler people, more closely in tune with the farmers and common folk of Alodoa) – I like it, I think you are in

7) Tribeof1 – Magnus Ravenson – Cleric – Human – Vangar (Vayangurr – Vangar is the Alodoan translation of the native word Vayangurr, what the people of the Vay Osha Iskurral (Vay=Chosen, Osha=who defend, Iskurra=lands(islands) of the Blind God: So Vayangurr means Chosen People, while Vay Osha Iskurral means The People(choosen) who defend the Islands of the Blind God) – I like it, I think you are in

8) Nicos – ? - ? - ? – are you still interested

9) Kip84 – Niall Amikar – Half-Elf – Warlock – Alodoa I like it, I think? I can’t see the character sheet from the computer I am currently using, so filling in the alias would help me a lot, thanks

10) Steve Geddes – Mittak – Wizard – Human – Alodoa I like it, I think you are in

11) Thejeff – ? - ? - ? – are you still interested?

12) Logan1138 – ? - ? – ? – are you still interested?

13) Wonder – Lijan van Histoff – Rogue – Half-Elf – Alodoa – Not sure I like the “five years in the army” background. Could you shorten it up a bit? We should have at least one rogue, so I think you are in

14) Seekerofshadowlight - ? - ? - ? I would so love it if you decided to join the game and I’ll hold a spot for you no matter what until you decide

15) Cottontree – Hegg Half-Giant – Bard – Dwarf – Baylor I like it, I think you are in, let me know if you would like to know more about Baylor

So, I count 15 submissions

One Fighter, Two Bards, two Clerics, One Monk, One Warlock, One Wizad, One Rogue, and six undecided (unless I missed something)

Obviously we shouldn’t start the game with so many characters, and I’d like to keep it to eight at the most.

If more than eight really want to play a “No House Rules” 5e game, I’ll consider converting another module (I have a lot of them).

Any questions?

I have stats done, I'll try and get them and story posted by the end of the weekend.

I also agree you have to prune it down, that is simply the nature of the beast. I know however, it works far better tis way then first come, first serve.

Story tweaked per your suggestion DM and equipment purchased.

Great, looking forward to starting.

Sounds good. I'm not familiar with the geography so I'll make a slight adjustment on my backstory to align with your notes above. You mentioned the setting was similar to colonial America so I was going for a Native American feel to my character.

Sorry, I've been busy. I'll get the character into the profile ASAP

Here is the crunch for Klodd Rockhopper:

I've got a general background in mind of an army brat, made a healer, because he wasn't quite what they were looking for as a warrior, and not quite devout enough for a paladin.

I'll need some help with a place of origin, and some information of the Dwarven pantheon.

Sounds good.

Warlock is a Soldier V. Human Paladin Bladelock with the concept of "Last Soldier of a Forgotten War"

the sorcerer is a Urchin Half-Elf Brass Dragon Sorcerer/ Wizard Evoker who is a young upstart from a middle eastern locale.

Yes please, further info on Baylor will help nail Hegg's history.

Let me just throw out some rolls
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 3) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 3) = 20 17
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 6) = 19 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 3) = 7 6
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 4) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 2) = 8 7

Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5) = 12

Well that's some pretty neat extremes there. Let me have a think.

Not sure of a lot of the Campaign details, so I've been somewhat vague on backstory, but here goes.

Backstory:

Arlen was a driven investigator, attached to the city watch, a scholar of the criminal mind and student of the arcane, however while investigating a particularly gruesome cult-related murder he ended up reading works of dire nature and found himself agreeing to be bound with a creature of alien origin and designs.

The creature has laid a heavy toll on Arlen, and in many ways he is half the man he was before, his mind is at least part-way broken, when lucid he still has his sharp intellect and wits, but is easily distracted often by things that no-one else can see or hear. The watch couldn't have such an... erratic personality on their books, and his mentor in the arcane arts found him too uncertain to teach any more and Arlen was left to find his own path

In one of his more lucid times he signed on with the Solution Society, keeping his wits together long enough to be assigned a case. It ended messily, Arlen himself couldn't recall all the details, but went south quickly and hard and people ended up dead.

Appearance
Arlen stands around 5'6", with a skinny frame, weighing in at about 115 lbs. His hair is black and eyes a grey-green.
He dresses and grooms to fastidious neatness and cleanliness, his attention often seems elsewhere, he rarely looks anyone in the eye, fixing his gaze on a point behind them, or his eyes darting with agitation.
Even with his nervous ticks and oft-jerky movement he still cuts a somewhat dashing figure, at least for short periods when he reigns it all in.

Self-wise I'm GMT (actually BST really), new to paizo boards, but I've been gaming a good 20 years or so. Currently only working part time so I should have plenty of time to post.

I know I'm a little late to the party, so I won't feel too rejected if I'm ignored.

I think that your character looks fine, AlexM, but I am probably going to pass on your submission for this game, but if you are really interested in doing an updated old TSR module in 5e rules, keep watching for me to post another recruitment soon

I’ve never had to select from this many submissions before. My games have not generated this kind of interest, but I will make a selection soon. So many great characters I hate to turn anyone away.

I’d like to have four or more veteran posters and up to four newcomers in the game, and I will select eight total.

Would the other players be interested in a different updated module? I was thinking Eye of the Serpent or The Secret of Bone Hill

I like this campaign idea but if necessary I'd be okay with a different module too. I'm easy going.

Dark Archive

Looking forward to Castle Caldwell if Magnus is picked, or one of the other modules. FYI, I'll be traveling without Internet access the next two days but will be able to check in and post by late Wednesday if selected.

Just posting to let you know that I will not be submitting a PC for this game after all.

Good luck everyone and have a great time!

Sorry I never got a character posted. I was away camping this weekend and didn't have a chance to put a writeup together before leaving. So, I'd be interested, but pretty much consider myself out of contention for this one. :)

I'll write him up anyway and apply if you do run another one. I have some vague memories of Bone Hill being cool. Don't know anything about the other one.

Thanks

No worries, I'll watch out for if you post another game.

I've created a game for this recruitment

I hope to open the discussion thread tonight, and at that time I will announce the Player Roster, so if you are still working on a character concept please have at least some of the details finished today.

You do not need to have a completed character sheet (alias) to be selected.

I will be posting some basic guidelines (how I would like to see us post in the Game and Discussion threads) and a note on formatting in the very first post of the Discussion thread, so it will always be right there

Information about the setting (I'll try not to overwhelm anyone with walls of text) will be posted in Spoiler tags in the Campaign Info Thread

Are there any questions at this point?

Also, a little note for anyone familiar with the Castle Caldwell and Beyond module (B9) - I have a sort of weird OCD like problem when it comes to maps/structures (being that I work in a design engineering group doesn't help, ha). The original module, sort of make sense, but the design of the castle is just plain weird. So, the structure is going to change, but the nature of the encounters will not. I hope that doesn't frustrate anyone

Thanks

Your patience is much appreciated!

Honestly, I came into this thinking it was a homebrew, but all I care about is having a good time. :)

Probably going to be withdrawing from this, reluctantly. Contract I have been waiting on finally came in, so my near future is pretty busy of a sudden.

No worries Hegg, see you around

Perivius - the setting is definitely Homebrew, well, more like "Herebrew" as we are building the setting as we play

Maps are in the works

I may have to bow out as well. I never got around to background and as you have plenty of apps, as well as people who put the time in to do solid background, I do not wanna hold anything up.

No worries, thanks for showing interest

Edit- thejeff- I pulled your notice back to active, if you still want to try and get into this game, just let me know

Three Players have withdrawn applications

Out of 12 submissions, I will select these Seven Characters unless one of them drops out in the next two days, there is room for one more Character, if anyone is still working on a submission.

I posted as Klodd Rockhopper above. Was waiting for some guidance on the Dwarven Pantheon, as well as Dwarves in general before finalizing background.

Whoops, missed that, sorry scranford. Let's make Klodd number 8 and call it done

Congrats to those picked, I hope yall have a good game.

These are the eight characters that will be invited to play. If you still want to be part of this game please post in this thread with your alias, so I can send you an introductory Message

Looking forward to it.

I want to play the game.
What now ?
didn't see any guidelines yet for the character sheet foramtting ?

rolling the dice for gold

gold: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) = 11

Alright, I am a little behind on getting some information out to all of you, but I will try to catch up.

For anyone interested in Baylor (the Dwarven homeland) start by casually looking at this game

Palace of the Vampire Queen, the 5e version

There are some good details about the setting in the campaign info tab (ignore all the house rules spoilers) and the first page of the game thread has a little history of the island. Basically we started building a new dwarven pantheon (with some of the Gods being re-skinned versions of standard D&D dwarven gods). The setting of Baylor is supposed to feel a little like a “Hollywood” version of Germany’s Black Forest, very Bavarian in feel. The initial history we began to build on details an event in the past that drove the Dwarves (good dwarves) above ground to live like men, and an ancient war with another race of "grey" dwarves, who might still live deep below the surface.

One of the players suggested keying each figure in the Pantheon to a type of rare earth mineral, so I am working that out now, but basically we have

Dwarves – there are eleven Gods in this Pantheon in two families (aligned along Lawful/Chaotic lines, but all are good), I’ve mentioned only three in that game so far

Igsugmund Silver Heart (Moradin) – The God of Fatherhood (Work, Devotion, Protection, Animal Husbandry)

Wyuddenllwyn Iron Eyes (Berronar) – The Goddess of Motherhood (Patience, Determination, Suffering, and Hope)

Mevboll Golden Hand (Sharindlar) – The Goddess of Natural Beauty (Lust, Fertility, Spring, Renewal)

---

I’ll put together some very short descriptions of Alodoa, Orimar (Urandoma*), and Iarishea

(*when I put a name in parenthesis, it is because the first name is the Alodoan name, or the Common Language name, while the parenthetical name is what the people of that culture and language group call the thing – so, the Alodoans, the largest human population in the known world, call the island of Urandoma, Orimar, while the people of Orimar might easily refer to themselves as Urandomans or Alodoans depending on their loyalties, they will always call their homeland, Urandoma)

For more information about Iarishea, Alodoa, and Urandoma, see this game
The beginning of All Things

Both the Baylor campaign and the Urandoma Campaign (on these boards) are a sort of everyone can contribute to developing the world type of setting.

As to formatting conventions, I’d like to make the following suggestions
Enter your Race, and Land of Origin in the Race box of your alias as this

Example: “Alodoan/Human”

In the Class/Levels box enter your Class/Level and then this information AC | HP | Vision (range)| Passive Perception (you can enter it as PP=x) | and then saves in this format

S=x D=x C=x I=x W=x Ch=x (where x= the + or – modifier)

If you have “Advantage” on certain saves, just put an “*” after the save modifier, and make sure to mention the condition in your alias description

I’ll go over a few formats for entering all the rest of the character information I need to be able to access on your alias in a new post, coming soon

Magnus has not checked in

DeWay are you still thinking about getting in on this?

Lantern Lodge

Yeah, i'll join if there's room. Might take me a day or so to make the crunch of the character. The weekend for the fluff.

Looks like the group could use some ranged support, perhaps a blaster.

The character I have in mind comes from a middle eastern setting (much like Al-Qadim) can we implant something like that into this game?

Lantern Lodge

I will await your answer before I create an alias.

I would be pressed to introduce another culture into this setting, let me think about it, maybe there is a way.

Without growing the map too much at this point, which I don't want to do. I'm expanding it a little south, to pick up Harrispania, don't know what direction to go to pick up a "middle eastern" culture.

Lantern Lodge

The other option is typical medieval character, I call it "Last Soldier of a Forgotten War."

This would be a Variant Human Soldier Paladin going into Bladelock.

He is the youngest of a minor noble, who fell in battle along with the rest of his company. Making a deal with the devil at the crossroads of life and death. He agreed in order to exact revenge on the one that caused his company's death. The deal was not sound on his part, he still retains the burnt flesh of the ordeal and always hides beneath his armor in order to conceal his identity and protect others from the hideous sight he has become. This had the unfortunate consequence of creating an alternate identity as the Last Soldier or Sigil in honor of the battle where he fell.

I updated the format of my character sheet.

As a reminder I would like to mention that everyone should have selected a background, including a Trait, Ideal, Bond, and Flaw

Looking at each of the aliases there is a wide range of styles in listing the character sheet details, and I’ve decided not to impose any one style. I would like to suggest that you all try to use “Bold” headers for each section of your character’s details, so that I can quickly find information about you when I need to, and please place the Background (the selection category from the Player’s Handbook, not your “Backstory” at the bottom of the page with each of the four things I mentioned above identified

It is my intention to award Inspiration based on the way you play the for things that were selected from your background

Here is an interesting tidbit for DeWay and Lijan

Soldiers?:
Each of you would like to play a soldier that was part of a company defeated in a battle. I am going to create a minor border war between Alodoa and Burkovia, which occurred in the past year. Baravkovia had been part of the Empire for the past two hundred years, but a minor noble in the Baravkovian royal family started an internal rebellion in hopes of overthrowing the Queen of Baravkovia and seceding from the Empire. I would like to know if DeWay would like to playt a soldier in the Secessionist army, and then Lijan would be a soldier in the Alodoan army, you both fought at the same battle. Alodoa was the victor, but it was a costly battle to the empire. Baravkovia has been “pacified” but many in that country still harbor strong feelings, on both sides of the conflict. Baravkovia will be northeast of Harrispania, a mountainous country with many deep alpine lakes, with a decidedly “Ravenloft-esque” setting. How does this sound? When you begin the game each of you will know that you fought at the battle of Sergan’s Crossing, on the Yasphorus River, but each of you does not know that the other fought against your side in that battle.

Terquem wrote:

I'll work on getting that added when I'm home with my books tonight.

Dark Archive

Just back from my trip I mentioned up-thread, will check in with Magnus shortly.

Welcome back tribeof1, glad you could make it

There is certainly room for nine players (I hope, *yikes*)

I've opened the Discussion thread and I would like each of you to post an introduction there, tell us who you are (yes I know the name of your alias tells us this, but tell us what name you like to go by) and tell us, in a sentence or two, a little bit about your character. If you still need information about the setting to round out your character, just let me know what you are looking for, information wise, and maybe we can come up with the details together.

I hope to put some important information about posting conventions in the Campaign Info tab, soon, And maybe this weekend I might get a map made of the general area.

Sorry if this is taking long and some of you were hoping for a faster paced experience. This is pretty fast for me, so, don’t expect it to get any faster, posting wise, at least from me.

I hope to be able to type up a very shot introduction for each of you and get it in a PM, by the end of today, or sometime tomorrow.

One quick question

How much "introductory role play" do you all want to participate in before we jump right to the gates of the castle?
