Eleric, Jaboa and Creeden you can see the shape of some odd shaped rocks out into Avalon Bay.

In addition you can see a single masted trawler named Isinglass which is fighting the wind and waves. A lone figure scurries about among several large tarp-covered objects lashed to the deck. He is attempting to manage both the sail and tiller to right the vessel and bring it safely in to shore.

"Greetings, I must save my boat, it has my equipment on it."

The boat is currently 150 feet from the dock.

Or 2 knowledge nature checks followed by a strength check.

Alternatively if you want to use magic you may be creative.

[i]Between the three of you, you manage to get the boat under control and bring it safely in to the dock.

The passenger of the boat is an elderly man wearing a leather apron smock bearing several unidentifiable stains and burns and a set of goggles with multiple coloured lenses pulled up on his forehead. He has an almost manic look with red-rimmed, sleep-deprived eyes.

"Thank you, thank you. You helped me save my vessel. You see I am an inventor. I was conducting experiments out by the Tern Rocks with some new equipment I'm developing. I use this isolated quay so that the local hooligans don't vandalise my equipment. I'd hired a number of locals to handle the boat for me but as the storm hit they dove overboard and swam for shore."

Eleric asks as me pretidigitations the water out of he and Creeden's clothing.

Tess had no way to fly, so she began moving overland to as close as she could get to the boat.

"Thanks, Eleric." Creeden runs his hand through his hair.

"Why are you doing your experiments in such a dangerous location?" the halfling asks the disheveled inventor.


"I believe that there are hidden chambers below the Tern Rocks. My vessel is designed to go beneath the waves."

"What do you expect to find down there?"


"I'm not sure, maybe some indication of ancient civilisations from the time below Earthfall, at least that's what I'm hoping.

But, where are my manners, Horace Croon at your service. And what are such a fine group of people doing outside in such filthy weather?"

"Pleasure to meet you. I'm Eleric this is Creeden, Ortensia, and Tess. We are looking for someone new to town. They would have come in riding in a black cloak. Any rumours of such a man?."

Tess makes her way to the boat, not interrupting the flow of the conversation, as it seems that Elric was getting along quite swimmingly with the ship’s Captain.


"I saw someone matching that description heading down the road towards Illmarsh about 2 days ago. I was tinkering with my equipment so didn't think much about it other than to note him passing by.

If you're going to Illmarsh be careful, some of the inhabitants are a little odd, I can't quite put my finger on it but there's something off about them.

In any case, i don't have much cash at the moment but if there's anything I can do to help you then please contact me at any time."

You head on along the coast round until you reach Illmarsh. It is a small town of primarily antiquated, chinked splint-log buildings, though a few of the more modern half-timbered structures may be found, especially around the town square. The town is dominated by its wharves, from which fishing trawlers likely head out every morning.

The town is surrounded on three sides by the swampy Soddentimbers, a swampy woodlands and a dank, mildewy odour perpetually hangs over the town.

The town consists of the following:

- Town Square

- Town Hall

- The Wharves

- The Bountiful Catch Inn

- The Fish Market

- The Walleyed Kraken, a tavern

- General Store

- Gifts of the Swamp, an apothecary shop

- The Boatmaker

- Hall of the Recondite Order of the Indomitable Sea, the only temple in the town, dedicated to Gozreh.

Ortensia was profoundly appreciative of her plague doctor's mask. The fragrant satchel it the beak made filtering the palpable musk of this sodden corner of Golarian.

The walleyed Kraken is run by a young female human, called Lauren Sills The clientele seem to be mainly fishermen.

Ortensia stalked into the tavern, ducking at the low doorframe to ensure her hat didn't pick up the dangling cobwebs. She scanned the interior of the tavern and its inhabitants.

[i]Ortensia you notice that you are being closely watched by the locals. All conversation stops as you enter the tavern. The landlady turns to you and says.

"We haven't had anybody new in town since that Lucas feller showed up a while back. He mainly keeps to himself in the inn and don't give no trouble."

”Well appreciate you being neighborly to us. Sounds like we might need to lol elsewhere,” Tess says as she tosses the lady a few coins for her trouble.

Going for a bluff, it is ok? As we did not so much meet as almost kill the man in black.

”Sounds like a good next step. I doubt the rider is staying at an inn, but maybe someone has seen him.”


The inn, the Bountiful Catch inn is a once fine two story structure, its warped boards and missing shingles show its age. The sign above the door depicts a fisherman hauling in a net full of fish and a curvaceous mermaid. The innkeeper, Rube Dreeley is a human male who is taciturn in nature.

Ortensia was more than glad to depart from the scrutiny of the tavern's inhabitants, turning curtly with a billow of her cloak and gliding back out onto the streets.

Whilst her companions engaged the innkeeper and staff, the tall halfork glided about as she searched for any remnants of their prey with her mind.

[i]Ortensia, you can see that Lucas came here about two days ago and paid for a room for a week. Your spells shows he left the room the following day, very early in the morning and has not returned since.

Eleric, even more than in the tavern as you enter the inn the conversation stops and everyone looks at you. Think of the pub scene from American Werewolf in London

The innkeeper looks up at you and glares.

"You want a room?"

"He's not here, he paid for the week but went out a day ago. Dunno where he went. Fishin's been poor here of late and the Neighbours h'aint been seen for a while. Mayhaps they got fed up with all the foreigners like you hereabouts lately."

At this point you see one of the locals slink out the door.

Eleric will head out the door. Cast invisibility and follow the person.

Eleric, you see the villager get outside and then run to the sheriff's office. A few moments later the sheriff emerges from his office looking worried and heads towards the inn.

Eleric should be able to out pace him on his flying disk and warn the group. He is staying invisible.

If the group gets Eleric’s warning, Tess will suggest the group get out of sight. Perhaps the group could use some sort of illusion magic to sneak back in and check out that room.?
