Just back, sorry didn't have access to my books, but after considering all sorts, including an undine ranger, an ulfen type barbarian, but in the end I thought I'll put together an arctic druid. Never played a druid before, so hopefully he'll last a bit longer than than Canvy did, I've never forgotten the way that dire rat ripped his throat open and nibbled off my head ...
Then I thought Ulfen cleric of Gozreh, Water and weather ... but thematically the druid kinda get it ...
So Ulfen Human arctic druid, ice domain ... I assume that the druid is a native of the village of Heldren ....
Hope this you decide on the other party members ....
Story and crunch later .....

Damiano Delstrego |

Robin here showing a rough draft of Damiano Delstrego , academic wizard with a yearn for adventure
History : His family wanted him to stay with his great uncle and Damiano was a dutiful son. But it was boring !! So Damiano escaped in books , books of history , books of geography , pathfinder journals , dictionnaries .
So he was the typical example of the chairbound explorer.
But then disaster struck or at least for his family , Damiano's great uncle remarried and Damiano was left as a extra wheel on a sled .
Still , it might be an opportunity for adventure !
Number stuff : Restless Wayfarer as a campaign trait
Knowledges and languages as skills but little practical skills like survival . some social skills nevertheless (diplomacy since it is not easy to deal with a crochety old uncle

I've wanted to play this ever since I found out the name of the 5th book.
I have a Brawler that I created for another Reign of Winter recruitment that didn't get in. He would need some minor tweaks for your game (equipment especially, as I don't remember the rules we used to generate equipment for that game). Would you be okay with a Brawler as a class?
EDIT: Also, how do you feel about the Lore and Artistry skills for background skills?

Well, well, it warms my cold old heart to see so many old friends gathered. Unfortunately it means that I don't have many spots to make new ones, and I am going to have to pass on some very interesting characters. But feel free to stick around, as there will probably be need for replacements later.
That said, I would like to welcome the following to the campaign:
Ingrit
Damiano Delstrego
[Deevor's as yet nameless druid]
Erland Frey
Domitian Olavsgaard
Please head over to the discussion thread and let's make a party out of you.

KenderKin |
Short update: Waiting for Deevor's submission to make my pick. So far there is only Ingrit that's definitely going to be in the party. The rest depends on what Deevor comes up with.
I enjoyed Deevor's character Canvy in my Shackled City game.
BT you are supposed to send out private messages to awesome people you already know when you get ready to recruit!!!

An alias would be fine. Build rules are as above, but you will start with three hero points and minimum xp for third level. Equipment is NPC gear I'm afraid, so not much. I'll get back to that.
You can look at the game thread when you have time, but basically she took up residence together with some bandits that the PCs just wiped out. The bandits were in turn uneasy allies with the winter creatures that the party has been battling. Her alignment as stated was CN but you can tweak that as you like. They offered her to join as they don't have a rogue in the party.
I'll give Derz the first shot at putting something together, but thanks for the interest.

Black Tom |

Ok, most of the crunchiness is done, but not knowing what her loadout is it's pretty incomplete. Also, I don't know how much of an established, important, plot-critical NPC this character is so I haven't written anything by way of backstory in case I ended up contradicting something.
´
She is just described in the adventure as down-on-her-luck half-orc burglar, forced to flee Demgazi when a heist went bad. She was called Ten-Penny Tacey but I happened to write her up as Three-Penny Tacey. You can use either variant (and come of with a story about it if you like). She's not at all tied to the overall plot so you have perfect freedom.
Her gear is as follows (she just drank a potion of Invisibility):
potion of pass without trace, potion of spider climb, tanglefoot bag; leather armor, dagger, mwk hand crossbow with 12 bolts, short sword, climber’s kit, crowbar, grappling hook, mwk thieves’ tools, silk rope (50 ft.), 28 gp and in a chest in her room a healer’s kit (5 uses remaining), a belt pouch with 25 sp, and a potion of lesser restoration.
Just read as much as you have time to in the game thread and jump in as you find appropriate. If you want to consult with the other players or introduce yourself do so in the discussion thread. Welcome aboard.

This campaign, which I took over a few years ago, is near the end of the 2nd book. We have lost a few PCs recently so I am opening recruitment for two or three new PCs. So you know, this is a 1st edition PF game.
PCs are just leveling up to 7th level. We will stick with the 20 point buy, two traits (one from the campaign guide), that was used for all starting PCs. Wealth will be 23,500 gp, which is PC standard for 7th level. For hp after 1st level, use the following method: take the higher of the value PFS uses (half hit die +1) or the result of the hit die roll. So if your hit die is a d8 and you roll and get 6, 7 or 8, you keep that value but otherwise you get 5 hit points.
Current party has a swashbuckler (melee powerhouse), a ranger (ranged powerhouse) with a Megaloceros animal companion, and a cleric of Milani. Alignments are CG, N, and CG, respectively. The story requires PCs to cooperate with an evil NPC but it is to save Golarian from being transformed into a world of perpetual winter, so it's for a greater good. I would prefer no evil PCs. If you want to make a case for one, go ahead, but it'll be a tough sell. We already have two good characters in the party, so I don't want conflict of motives and certainly no PCs into torture, cruelty, and other extreme vices.
The current party also has a winter witch PC but the player has not posted for two months. So we will probably want an arcane caster of some sort in case the player doesn't post soon to hold his place. Party is solid on melee combat, so something along the lines of a bard or rogue and/or other spellcasters would round out the party well.
The current locale of the campaign is Irrisen and will soon be transitioning to Iobaria, which is another sub-arctic region east of Brevoy at the eastern extreme of the Inner Sea area, so consider backgrounds that justify the PC being in one of these regions.
Currently posting PCs have a say in who gets selected, but I will veto anyone who does not have a solid PBP track record. I will not choose anyone who has dropped out of a game without telling the GM and the party why. This campaign is likely to continue running for years, so I would prefer people who can promise to be able to play for a long time, barring catastrophic RL events. In my experience college students tend to flake out when their course work gets too great to allow time for daily posts and often have to drop out due to getting a time consuming job after graduation. Would prefer people not likely to have their lives taken over by adding family members. So give a brief description of your current RL situation (send it by PM if you prefer not to post it publicly).
I'll also be looking at posts in other games for creative posts that do more than just indicate type of actions being taken and rolling dice. I want players who will provide the others in the game a description of what your PC is feeling, including body language and physical descriptions. Also the posts should provide hooks for other players to respond to.
This recruitment will stay open until the players and I agree on whom to invite. Recruitment will close when the invites have been made.
Please provide at a minimum your character race, class(s), archetypes (if any), alignment, and brief background. Provide a reason your PC would get involved in a quest to locate the infamous Baba Yaga to get her to help stop the evil queen of Irrisen's plot to turn all Golarian into a winter world. Total crunch can be worked out after character selection, although if you want to post it as part of our consideration, knock yourself out.

Hello! One of my other games just crashed due to schooling issues, so I understand you on that. I'd like to throw my hat in the ring.
Character race: Gnome
Class: Arcanist
Archetype: Elemental Master (Leaning Fire)
Alignment: CG
Background: Despite being smart as a whip, Teladora Whizzlefizz took the words of her family a little too close to her heart. Growing up, she would always look forward to her family visiting, in particular, her Uncle, Fongledoytch Whizzlefizz. Fongledoytch was an avid storyteller and natural liar. Most people took his outrageous tales with a grain of salt, chalking it up to another bout of an overactive Gnome imagination. Teladora absorbed his stories every time he would speak them, not bothering to question him unless something turned out to be impossible.
One day, Fongledoytch returned to the homestead her family was based out of after a particularly long stint away, even by Gnome time standards. His hair was partially bleached, his skin losing its color. However, as Fongledoytch started spinning his tale, some of his colors began showing more vibrantly, and then something particularly powerful entered Teladora's ears.
"While I was traveling the far north, I was cursed by Baba Yaga herself! That's why I'm Bleaching!"
To everyone else, it was a tall tale. Teladora, however, took it as truth. Not long after, she steeled herself, gathered her books and things, and left a note.
"Heading to Irrisen to save Uncle Fongledoytch from Baba Yaga's curse. Be back soon."
My situation: I recently got a job doing recruiting. It's a lot of deskwork, and I have time between calls to craft responses. My posting on weekends can be a little weak except for at night (Eastern) when my wife has already gone to bed.
HP: 6 + 6d6 ⇒ 6 + (6, 4, 6, 5, 5, 4) = 36

Ooooh, I'd love to join this. Let me introduce Tiknesr Th'th'th'th'slifp (first name pronounced /Tik-NESS-er/, last name pronounces like he's clicking his tongue several times and then licking his lips), a Ratfolk Witch.
Here's his profile...which needs to be leveled down from 10 to 7, and adjusted to this campaign's rules. Below are rough backstory & etc for him, though I'm happy to make edits to fit better into where yall are currently at, or any hooks you'd like to weave in.
BACKSTORY
Tiknesr was raised in a sizeable ratfolk subcity within Cassomir’s sewers -- one that thrived on trade between Cassomir itself and the Darklands undercity of Corgunbier. Tiknesr wasn’t directly involved in the trade economy; instead he was an elder of the coven who protected and helped to lead the ratfolk. He found ample opportunities to grow his mastery of witchcraft in the conflux of humanoids surging in and out of Cassomir and lived there until he’d reached the ripe old (for a rat) age of 32...but ratfolk populations have a tendency to explode and Cassomir’s was no exception. Tiknesr might have been content to stay in his position within his coven, but youngsters hungry for power and opportunity staged a coup d'état within his coven, leaving him with the need to get out of town quickly.
Faced with the sudden need to start over in a hurry, Tiknesr considered other opportunities to gain power and esoteric knowledge. He’d heard rumors of several portals creating unseasonable wintery weather, and decided to investigate. Communing with his patron (by way of his ratling familiar) Tiknesr confirmed his suspicion that this was the meddling of the winter witches of Irrisen. ”Very well. Irissen gets me far away from the ungrateful upstarts who’ve usurped my coven...and perhaps this is better anyway. Who knows what esoteric knowledge and seeds of power I might uncover from Baba Yaga and the witches of Irissen?”
Tiknesr licked his lips, and booked passage on a riverboat and then a caravan heading North, and West.
PERSONALITY and MOTIVATIONS
Tiknesr has a dark sense of humor leaning toward schadenfreude and tends to titter with joy in his foes’ defeat. When it comes to morality, Tiknesr is…practical. He’s calculating and methodical, using whatever means he can to forward his (and his allies’) ends. He’s taken to adventuring, looking for esoteric knowledge and power, and more generally to rebuild his life after losing his status in his coven. While he’s motivated primarily by personal gain, his life in the ratfolk subcity of Cassomir’s sewers taught him the necessity of coordinating closely with those around him -- he knows he’s lost without allies. On the other hand, having been betrayed and usurped in his coven, he has cursed his past naïvety and vowed to watch his back more closely. In the end he’s very aware of the bind he’s in: many will seek to betray him yet without allies he’ll never prevail, and so he’s looking for a crew that he believes is worth trusting.
He plans to use the opportunities provided by this quest to gain more knowledge and power than was ever possible for him in Cassomir. He’ll seek to be of great use to his new companions, knowing that if they aren’t able to work together as one swarm and aren’t willing to risk their lives for each other, there’s no other way for him to gain the knowledge and power he seeks.
FAMILIAR and PATRON
Tiknesr has the Shadow patron. Who or what that implies is up to the DM. I’m happy to have this become a factor/complication to be woven into the story at some point, if it provides an interesting hook...but equally fine to have it stay untouched.
Not long before he was betrayed, he came into his quarters and found a ratling eating his scorpion familiar. It looked up and introduced itself to Tiknesr, saying, ”Hey there, Ugly. I’m your new connection to The Patron. We’ll be stuck together for a while--until you croak, I’d reckon. Don’t worry though: as long as you keep me supplied with ample scrolls to read, and some blood to keep me fed, I’m sure I’ll tolerate you.
“Oh! The name’s Aroden, by the way. Like the dead god, ya know? No relation, mind ya.”
It’s worth noting that while Tiknesr is Neutral (and a strong believer in the importance of working together with allies "like a swarm"), his familiar is definitely Evil. I see this as a fun opportunity to roleplay...mostly, again, as complications for Tiknser, and comedic value.
Aroden, his ratling familiar, has a very acerbic personality. The ratling serves Tiknesr faithfully...but with plenty of pointed commentary. He also serves The Patron, with enigmatic hints that the ratling understands much more than Tiknesr does, but deflecting direct questions.
APPEARANCE
At thirty-two years, Tiknesr is old for a ratfolk. At first glance, one sees a grey-brown humanoid rat who might be a hair over four feet tall if he stood up straight. He has long bushy white eyebrows and beard and flaky skin, and dresses in midnight blue robes. He tends to play up his age somewhat, walking more bent over than he needs to, so as to let him surprise those around him when he needs to react with his true agility.
Scurrying in and out of his voluminous sleeves and his haversack, one can glance at what appears to be a foot-long black rat with an ugly, unkempt man-face.
Reference images:
- Tiknesr Th’th’th’th’slifp
- Aroden, his ratling familiar
I've played Tiknesr in two prior games that died off, and he was great to play (especially with players who enjoy role playing off each other).
Since I've played him before, I'll link a few sample posts:
- Here he is, introducing himself to a new crew of crusaders, who he's considering joining forces with: one, two
- This post, which introduces his familiar should be an example of his (and my) sense of humor...and this combat post does a bit as well.
The one big change I'm making from when I played him the first time: I'm pretending Slumber doesn't exist. I found it uninterestingly powerful.

Character Race: Human
Class [Archtypes]: Bard [Arrowsong Minstreal] 5 / Dragon Disciple [Brass] 2
Alignment: CG
Background: Crasius Leone grew up in Cheliax. His family was moderately well off, but he chafed at the incredibly rigid nature of the land. When a passing bard came through, Crasius begged her to let him travel with her as an apprentice.
Kahina, a bard from Osirion, was at first reluctant to take him on. After talking to Crasius for a bit she decided that he had the charisma needed in a bard and took him on as an apprentice. She informed him that she was returning to Osirion. Once she had taken care of some business there she would continue on her way and if things were going well he could continue to travel with her.
The two traveled for many years as Kahina taught Crasius the skills of being a bard and how to use a bow to defend himself. She showed him how to weave words together to inspire others or to cast bardic magic on allies or enemies. On their final trip back to Osirion, Kahina announced that they would be parting ways as Crasius had gained all the skills she had to teach him. On their final night together Kahina revealed that she was not the human bard that she had pretended to be, but instead was a Brass dragon who had decided to travel the world for a time in the guise of a human.
Crasius was amazed at the sight of Kahina as a massive dragon and decided to dedicate himself to the amazing creatures. After she left him he continued to travel the world to gather stories and knowledge and learn the ways of the Dragons. He went on to become a dragon disciple dedicated to the Brass dragons that had helped him for so long.
My Situation: I have a lot of free time. I generally check the boards several times a day. Sunday’s can be a bit tight with family stuff. I have been playing pbp’s for several years now and I have never dropped out of a game, although I have had a few end as interest among the group members waned.
Hit Points: 8 + 4d8 + 2d12 ⇒ 8 + (8, 2, 5, 6) + (4, 3) = 36
That works out to 42 HPS before bonuses.

I have wanted to play Reign of Winter for a while. Looking at your party's needs, I have a concept that I think could be a lot of fun and also fit effectively into the party: a Human or (Half-Elf) Chronicler of Worlds/Studious Librarian Bard. Chronicler requires some brand of neutral, and I'm leaning true neutral. I want to work up the chassis and a more fleshed-out background, but this is just the initial concept. The Restless Wayfarer trait makes a lot of sense. I envision them being someone who is seeking reliable ways to traverse different planes of existence, and someone who is rather familiar with lore surrounding Baba Yaga. The opportunity to work with a myth like Baba Yaga, to learn even a smidgen of what she must have gained during her travels, would be highly appealing.
Key features:

gyrfalcon |

A few Qs on my end -
Any concerns with an evil familiar, as described in my proposal? Happy to discuss more if useful. (Know that I basically never play evil characters, but I find that having a Neutral character dependent on an Evil familiar lends to fun RP).
In terms of character creation, are you using:
- Background skills?
- Drawback for a third trait?
For prepared casters like witches, how do you want us to determine # of spells known / level (presumably from scrolls Tiknesr has come across, and/or other familiars that his familiar has communed with)?
If I take Scribe Scroll, can my WBL include some scrolls I've crafted, at crafting price?
Thanks!

Looking over the campaign traits, I'm definitely going Warded Against Witchery. Just imagining this socially awkward, nerdy Gnome girl walking around with a homemade protective charm that doesn't actually do anything but she's so well versed in other aspects of witches now that it acts like a placebo amuses me.
Also not sold on Teladora as a name anymore, but I'll come up with something.
Not sure how much being a fire based Mage is going to seem like "cheating" in Reign of Winter, but I'm willing to change things around a bit.

hp: 6d8 ⇒ (2, 7, 6, 8, 4, 7) = 34
As I understand you, that's 8+5+7+6+8+5+7 +7*(Con + favored class bonus) = 8+39+21 = 68 hp
I have a similar question about spells with scribe scroll. If I have the ability to cast a spell from a written source once a day without expending it, could I use the 1.5x spell writing cost spelled out in the Core Rule Book to sketch out an easy to access source for comparative arcane studies? Or would you prefer the cost of scribing scrolls for any possibly spells known outside of those innately learned through the base class?
Since those of us chosen may join the current party in Iobaria, would you prefer characters to know Iobarian, or would you prefer to avoid such meta-gaming at the start? As I have started to flesh out this concept, I think this bard has traveled multiple places around Golarion and could easily be from or have been to locales in Iobaria (in addition to sojourns on other inner planes).

Knight of Rust submitted Gnome Arcanist (Elemental Master) CG
Gyrfalcon submitted Tiknesr Th'th'th'th'slifp, a ratfolk Witch N [see note below regarding the ratling familiar.]
Malinor. submitted Crasius Leone, a human bard (arrowsong Minstrel)/Dragon Discple (Brass) CG
polyfrequencies submitted Human or half-elf bard (chronicler of worlds or studius librarian) N
dr. kekyll submitted Adrian Arbeta, a dhampir slayer (Guerrilla witch killer)/Sorcerer (umbral) NG Shadow bloodline.
As for the question of the CE Ratling familiar, there is this text from Bestiary 4: "In order to gain a ratling familiar, the spellcaster must be chaotic evil and at least 7th level. So I don't think that will work, as interesting as it might be.
For a witch character, in addition to spells gained each level, a character can add spells to zir own familiar/spellbook by paying another witch whose familiar knows the spell to allow let the familiars commune and teach each other spells. Let's say that a witch character can use this method to add qn equal number of spells to the spellbook as are gained at each level. To learn any more requires the purchase of the appropriate scroll costing 110% the usual cost for purchasing scrolls (to allow for the occasional failed spellcraft check).
For a bard character, I'd probably allow the bard to make a copy of the spellbook page(s) with the spell that ze wants to use to create scrolls, as if the bard is a spellcaster wanting to copy a spell from another spellbook. Or if there is a cost associated with the purchase of a spellbook, use that. Let's hash this out if the PC is chosen to join the game.
We have a fair selection already. I'll solicit opinions from the current players and make a decision soon. Anyone wanting to get in on this phase of recruitment should do so as soon as possible.

Please officially meet Hadda Sogard, my chronicler of worlds/studious librarian bard. If chosen, I’m happy to rework elements of the backstory to have better hooks in the campaign. Trying to go off of pre-Reign of Winter books so as to avoid spoilers and extrapolate from there. The crunch can also easily change. Thank you for the earlier clarifications.
Although the school’s library had many books, Mirnbay was still a small city compared to metropolises like those Hadda’s mother spoke of in Avistan. Across the forested wilds of Iobaria and the deadly Icerime Peaks, or a sail away across the Castrovin Sea, were countries with even more knowledge than what was guarded by Mirnbay’s wizards. Isarn, Oppara, Almas, Absalom, Korvosa, Egorian, Caliphas, Whitethrone…each city sounded grander than the last. Hadda could barely wait to go and travel.
When her parent decided she was old enough, Hadda’s father took her on one of his mercantile expeditions. He had established some clients in Ustalav who were interested in some of the rarer ingredients found nowhere in Golarion except in Iobaria. So they dodged pirates along the coasts of the Castrovin Sea, and then caravanned across the River Kingdoms until they found themselves in the town of Rozenport in Ustalav. Knowing that his daughter would probably be interested in the library, Hadda’s father left her in the protection of an old friend, Dr. Henri Meritmane, the Dean of the Sincomakti School of Sciences. Hadda once again ran throughout the school’s libraries, amazed at all the books she had never heard of.
In that library, Hadda found a locked door. She had been growing progressively craftier and managed to break into this forbidden section without being seen. To this day, she can’t quite recall everything that she read, nor how long she was in the room. But her father says that she was missing for a while, and that he mustered the students and faculty to look for her. When they found her, her hair had turned completely white and she was unconscious. She was in a coma for three months.
The book believed to be the culprit was a copy of a portion of the Book of the Damned, an infamous tome written by the fallen angel Tabris about the Fiendish realms. Tabris had been commanded to travel to and catalog all that was known about the Outer Planes. For doing his job too well, he had been disowned and locked out of Heaven. Or at least that was how the story went.
Hadda was changed after that day. The youthful exuberance and charm that had characterized her childhood dulled. In its place, there was a voracious hunger for knowledge that bordered on obsession. It took her a long time to piece together what had happened to her, the lore surrounding the Book of the Damned and Tabris, and what it meant for her. She sympathized with the cause of this angel whose only crimes were knowing what some deemed to be too much and sharing that information with others. Yes, what Hadda had read had nearly killed her. But she reasoned that her mind just wasn’t ready for it yet. Given more time and more training, perhaps she could understand this lore. And surely there was still knowledge to be gained about the world. Tabris could not have documented everything there was to know in the multiverse.
As soon as she was well enough to travel, Hadda left her home and began to travel across Casmaron and Avistan on her own. She would sit in on lectures at different academies of arcane and occult learning. She sometimes even stopped long enough to enroll in a course, which she was lucky to get attend if she could pry herself away from the school’s libraries. If a school tried to deny her access, she tried to reason with them, employing a dispassionate but effective silver tongue. Failing that, she would break in and take what she desired anyway. She was not so bold as to steal the books, but she would frequently transcribe copies that she could distribute them to interested parties later. Hadda was certainly caught more than a few times. If she couldn’t manage to escape—and she often could—then she dealt with a brief stint before talking her way out of her troubles. No one could keep her down for long.
While she sought information about many topics, she was particularly drawn to lore about others like Tabris who pursued dangerous truths. Who disseminated knowledge, who hoarded it, and who tried to prevent access to it? As she studied their stories, she found herself allied with the promoters and at cross-purposes with the gatekeepers. Empyreal lord Bharnarol, The Tempered Inventor, was an enemy because of how he prevented the invention of devices he deemed dangerous. But fellow empyreal lord Zohls, driven by the search for truth, was a friend. She greatly distrusted Norgorber, who trafficked in secrets above almost all else. But she admired the demon lord Abraxas whose Abyssal libraries were well-regarded and, presumably, accessible. Irori, Brigh, Ydajisk: there were many who seemed to share in the quest for knowledge, however they intended to use it.
To go beyond would require more. There was certainly magic—most of it beyond Hadda’s powers—that would allow her to travel to other worlds and other planes. But most of those solutions were unreliable. She needed something that she could learn to control. Searching for this such a solution led Hadda to legends of Baba Yaga and her Dancing Hut. She now seeks the Queen of Witches to ask how she might harness such magic for herself.

Special Abilities
--------------------
Wanderer’s Insight: A chronicler of worlds gains power not from her personality but from an analytical understanding of existence. She uses Intelligence instead of Charisma to determine the effects of bard class features, including spellcasting and bardic performance. A chronicler of worlds must have an alignment with at least one neutral component; a character who does not meet this requirement cannot use or benefit from this archetype’s abilities.
Planar Lore (Ex): A chronicler of worlds can take 10 on Knowledge (planes) checks. A number of times per day equal to her Intelligence modifier, she can take 20 on a Knowledge (planes) check. This ability stacks with that gained by lore master at 5th level. A chronicler of worlds can attempt all Knowledge checks untrained. This alters bardic knowledge.
Amoral Scholar (Ex): A chronicler of worlds rejects cosmic morality. At 2nd level, she does not take penalties imposed by planar alignment traits, and she gains a +4 bonus on saving throws against spells and effects that vary based on their target’s alignment. This replaces well-versed.
Scrivener’s Versatility (Ex): A chronicler of worlds seeks to emulate history’s greatest scribe; studying the lore of Tabris grants insight into widely varying subjects, from anatomy to discourse. At 2nd level, a chronicler of worlds selects a skill from the following list: Bluff, Diplomacy, Disable Device, Heal, Intimidate, Profession (scribe), Sense Motive, or Survival. When attempting skill checks of that type, a chronicler can use her Linguistics skill bonus in place of her bonus with the chosen skill. At 6th level and every 4 levels thereafter, a chronicler of worlds selects an additional skill to gain this benefit. This replaces versatile performance.
Scribe Scroll: A studious librarian gains Scribe Scroll as a bonus feat. This ability replaces distraction.
Lore Master (Ex): At 5th level, the bard becomes a master of lore and can take 10 on any Knowledge skill check that he has ranks in even when threatened or distracted. A bard can choose not to take 10 and can instead roll normally. In addition, once per day, the bard can take 20 on any Knowledge skill check as a standard action. He can use this ability one additional time per day for every six levels he possesses beyond 5th, to a maximum of three times per day at 17th level.
Comparative Arcane Studies (Su): At 6th level, the studious librarian is exposed to a wide variety of magical writing, and can use his own magic to duplicate spells from other classes’ spell lists. Once per day, a studious librarian can cast any spell from the bard, sorcerer/wizard, or witch spell lists from a scroll or spellbook in hand as if it were one of his bard spells known, expending a bard spell slot of the same spell level to cast the desired spell. Casting a spell from a scroll this way does not cause the spell to vanish from the scroll. A spell cast in this way cannot be modified by metamagic. The studious librarian gains one additional daily use of this ability at 10th level and again every 4 bard levels thereafter, to a maximum of four times per day at 18th level. This ability replaces suggestion and jack-of-all-trades.
Bardic Performance: Countersong (unable to use effectively without rank in Perform), Fascinate, Inspire Courage +2, Inspire Competence +3
Focused Study: All humans are skillful, but some, rather than being generalists, tend to specialize in a handful of skills. At 1st, 8th, and 16th level, such humans gain Skill Focus in a skill of their choice as a bonus feat. This racial trait replaces the bonus feat trait.
Restless Wayfarer (campaign): You have long led a nomadic life—perhaps because your parents were travelers (whether roaming Varisian caravaneers or traveling merchants who traded far and wide), you belonged to a nomadic tribe, or you ran away from home to discover the world at a young age. Some call it wanderlust, but to you the thought of new places and experiences is truly what makes life worth living, and no region catches your imagination like the windswept wilderness of the North. You are used to getting along in unfamiliar lands and interacting with interesting new people. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Knowledge (geography) and Knowledge (local) checks, and one of these skills (your choice) is a class skill for you. You can also speak one additional language (this does not count toward your number of languages).
Pragmatic Activator (magic): While some figure out how to use magical devices with stubborn resolve, your approach is more pragmatic. You may use your Intelligence modifier when making Use Magic Device checks instead of your Charisma modifier.

Thanks! I'm keeping an eye here, and still interested. Do yall have a sense of when you'll have your decision made?
@ DM Clebsch, I'm sure Tiknesr will work fine with another familiar, if that's a better fit. That said, my read is that the general CE requirement is explicitly modified by the Improved Familiar feat, which says:
Benefit: When choosing a familiar, the creatures listed here are also available to you. You may choose a familiar with an alignment up to one step away on each alignment axis (lawful through chaotic, good through evil).
Improved familiars otherwise use the rules for regular familiars, with two exceptions...
I can see how it's reasonable to interpret the text in Ratling as overriding that too though, and I'll be fine to choose a different familiar. (Mostly, I like the Ratling for the role play opportunities...) I'm happy to go with your call.

Thanks for the information on the familiar options. I've not had to time to do the deep dive into the wilds of Pathfinder rules to locate all the scattered rules that are relevant. I'll take them into consideration, but looks like the evil familiar would be allowed under the rules.
I would expect, however, that the ratling's evil would be overshadowed by the master's alignment and it would not be able to take an evil action on its own. I would generally let the player role play the familiar, but since this one is intelligent and can talk, I would reserve the right to override any actions that I thought inappropriate to the fun of the adventure for all the non-evil party members.
I've heard from two of the three players and am waiting on the third. Once I have those opinions, I'll make a decision. It's looking like we'll add three new PCs. I should make a decision in a few days, I hope.
