Background:
Droomag hails from the Tunnelstrider tribe near Helgan village, calling the tunnels and caves below the trees their homes. While kobold sorcerers are nothing new and very valued among many tribes, Droomag was always a little... different. His power manifested a little off from every other kobold demonstrating draconic power, and while most kobold sorcerers revel in the respect and authority their power grants them among their tribe, Droomag seemed more content to demonstrate his might and cow everyone who dared to challenge him. He hoarded resources for himself instinctively, took the best chambers for himself, and bullied those who felt were beneath him. Yet, almost immediately, he would turn around and apologize, giving back what he'd taken and taking back his insults and anger. But, strangely enough, despite the magnificent flames he spat and the molten sheen his scales gave off, he seemed most comfortable in the colder months, happily walking through the woods hip deep in snow and practically steaming in the harsh winter winds. It was as if he belonged in the frigid northern weather, despite the elemental flames that boiled in his belly.
Droomag knew something was off with him. He knew he was in conflict with himself, but what drove him to do this, he had no clue. But finally, he consulted with the tribe elders after gaining enough sense and humility to do so, who divined and spoke with the spirits for days on the matter. But finally, the elders came to realize that while Droomag was indeed gifted with the blood of dragons, it was a more ancient and primordial breed - linnorms. Specifically, a tor linnorm, the strongest, smartest, and most vain of the destructive creatures to walk the land. Most linnorms lived to the far north near the Crown of the World, which might explain why Droomag was so content in the snows of the colder months - his ancestry hailed from the coldest regions in the world. As to how he was born with this power, it was entirely uncertain, but the elders speculated that perhaps Droomag descended from particularly cunning kobolds who served a tor linnorm and in return, were granted favor by the titanic creature. Droomag was fascinated by the prospect that he hailed not from true dragons, but their more barbaric cousins. If this was true, perhaps the secret to properly controlling his inborn urges of destruction and conquest lay somewhere in the northern realms. Packing up his meager possessions, Droomag was ready to set out in search of answers to his family history... but before he could leave, an alarmingly cold spell settled over the tribe's forest. Although Droomag knew that he could very easily ignore such a threat to his kin, he refused to leave them so vulnerable. Instead, he has ventured first to the village of Heldran, hoping to find a few moderately capable hands to assist him in investigating the sudden change in weather, internally reasoning with himself that if nothing else, it would be the ideal opportunity to show off his might before those who could appreciate it. Personality:
Droomag's heritage puts him in consistent conflict with his own wishes, regardless of how neutral he may wish to be. The linnorm blood that flows through him demands him to constantly show off his might and command respect or destroy everything in his path, but the sad truth is, Droomag himself would much rather explore what the world at large has to offer rather than raze it all to the ground. As such, he remains largely quiet and reserved in an effort to keep his blood from boiling over, despite that fact he can be remarkably well spoken and diplomatic when he so chooses. When he does speak up, it's usually fairly slow and deliberate, giving the impression that he is pondering the gravity of each word he chooses, when in reality, he is simply trying to keep himself from saying something he will almost certainly regret.
Despite his withdrawn behavior, in heated situations, his ancestry shows itself without shame, shouting threats and belittling those he faces with little regard for whether they deserve it or not. He demands respect or fear - neither matters to him so long as others recognize his might and majesty. Droomag prefers humiliation over outright defeat, though he has little issue with crushing those who dare to oppose him. To those left alive and conscious, he rubs his victory in their faces and demeans their efforts to oppose him until he can regain some semblance of control over himself. Droomag is vain and greedy, having a tendency to hoard what he finds all for himself - another unfortunate result of his linnorm heritage, but he is not above giving precious items away in exchange for shows of proper respect and admiration. He had an obsession with magical items and prefers few items of high value to vast amounts of cheaper objects, though he gladly collects anything and everything that he thinks might have some value to him. This does mean, however, that he can fairly accurately identify something of value, and if it's something magical in nature, he has a pretty good chance of putting it to use himself. Droomag is still in some conflict over his nature, but for the most part, has accepted that the influence of his lineage means he will never be fully in control. The best he can do is to hope that he can reign in his urges when they surface, and those who help him in his quest for self control earn his respect and cooperation much faster, though he can still be a bit of a pain to work with at times. Still, Droomag is curious to know about his heritage and believes that whatever answers he seeks will lie to the far north in the lands of the Linnorm Kings. While he places a great deal of value on things he can claim for himself, he puts an equally high price on knowledge of his ancestry, and will go to impressive lengths to get the answers he demands. |
