A snake? No, a tongue! Tellerin stands stunned and blinking for a moment as the tongue wraps around Calephe.
Tellerin rushes into the room, splashing into a puddle as he does so. He draws his light crossbow in the process. "Hold on Calephe, we'll get you free!"
Well... assuming I can get this damned contraption working. If not, Rashid or Hskoro will manage! I hope!

Rashid steps in and gives the frog a good smack with his mace, while Calephe turns the fight around and grabs hold of the frog!
Dolvin moves into melee, but is not able to connect with the struggling combatants. Tellerin goes for his crossbow while moving into a better firing position.
The Frog decides that his meal needs a bit of chewing first and bites down hard on the woman.

With one last desperate chop, Calephe shows the frog who is who on this food chain! She then spends a moment freeing herself from the grotesque wrapping of dead frog tongue she is embroiled in.

"Hmm... interesting monsters we fine here."
Hskoro moves over to the other door and waits for the others to show they are ready to move on before opening the door.

![]() |

"Looks like that went well, nice hits there Calephe, Rashid." Tellerin moves on over to the dead frog and pokes at it. He inspects its body to try to find any sign that it might be domesticated.
A pet belonging to the smelly creatures? Or what?
"The more we explore here, the less sense I'm making of this place. Why are all these creatures hiding here? What brought them here? Maybe if we keep looking we'll find answers. It almost seems like all this is meant to guard something... but the whole tower has been almost empty of historical goodies so far."
Tellerin looks around the room for what the frog might have been protecting and then joins Hskoro at the door.

Dolvin heals Calephe, and then the group begins looking around the room. Other than scraps of past froggie meals, there is not much to be found until Calephe kicks over a rock as she is moving through the some rubble. Looking down, she finds a Jade statue. It looks to be some sort of very old idol and is most likely worth around 500 gold to the right collector!
When the team is ready, Hskoro opens the door to reveal the collapsed remnants of a room. The floor ends shortly after the door, and bare wall faces him from across the expanse of destruction.

![]() |

"Sounds right! Can I see that statue Calephe? Maybe there's something on it that can tell us more about this tower?"
If Calephe passes it over, Tellerin examines the statue and looks for any text or markings that would tell him more. After he's done he passes it back to her.
He scratches his chin and waggles his eyebrows as he thinks. "If the pattern from the floors below continues, there should be another room on the east side of the tower. Lets look for it once we see the south part."
Tellerin heads to the door to the south room and waits for the rest of the party to lead the way.

GM DevilDoc |

Tellerin looks over the statue, but fails to find anything else of import on it. The group reconvenes in front of the southern door from the barracks and prepares to see what the tower has in store for them next.

![]() |

Looking at the collapsed room, Hskoro shakes his head. "I hope tower decides not to collapse on us."
He moves with the other as they head toward the other door. When everyone is ready, he opens the door.

GM DevilDoc |

LMAO!! It doesn't matter.. yall swarmed him like nerds over a library sale..
The team charges into the room, swinging weapons and slinging spells.. before the hapless creature can even begin to regret his greeting to you, he lies still and dead.

GM DevilDoc |

Calephe doesn't think that the chest is trapped.
Really though.. no comments about my library crack??

![]() |

"Hm. A bit anticlimactic."
"I thought for a moment there that this might've been their ringleader." Despite his disgust, Tellerin pokes around the dead trog in search of any signs that he may have been in charge. He holds one hand to plug his nose as he does so.
"Ehh. Ugh. Why do these things have to stink so badly?"
I've never seen nerds at a library sale, so its lost on me :<

GM DevilDoc |

Maybe its just me then.. or a local thing. sorry.
I am assuming that by "poking around" you mean searching..
Tellerin digs through the dead troglodytes pockets. He doesn't find anything signifying rank, but he does find a ring of keys.

![]() |

I thought it was pretty funny, though I do love a good library sale.
Dolvin goes over to the table with the box on it and rummages through the things before going over and opening the box. I hope its not trapped he thinks to himself just as he opens the lid.
"I agree" he calls over his shoulder "these creatures are vile"

"Can I borrow those keys Tellerin? Maybe they open this chest?" she's still breathing through her mouth. "Maybe we should put plague masks on our supply lists."
I hide from the library sales. I need to give books away not find more :)

![]() |

Tellerin tosses the keys over to Calephe. "You got it!"
"Masks would be nice, but back home with the caravans I'd sometimes see merchants with those scented pouches of spices and musk. I'd kill for one of those right now."

GM DevilDoc |

Dolvin tries to open the chest, but finds it locked. Calephe borrows the keys Tellerin found and moves over to help. Opening it, she reveals personal affects of some unknown individual.

"darn box is locked" Dolvin says sending out a pulse of detect magic in his frustration. "anymore keys? Maybe one is for this thing. "He says walking over and peering into the chest.

"That's some nice equipment. I wonder whose Wayfinder this was. It might be worth taking back to the Grand Lodge and see if it can be identified." She looks for any identifying marks on the Wayfinder.

GM DevilDoc |

Calephe finds no markings on the Wayfinder.
There were several keys on the ring.. one of which fit the chest.
Still have one door on this level and then the stairs continuing upwards.

![]() |

"A wayfinder!" Tellerin peeks around Calephe and looks at the wayfinder himself. "You don't reckon another Pathfinder got here before us only to die to one of these creatures? Or... is this from when the tower was still in use!"
His eyes flash with curiosity. "Calephe, can I hold onto it?"
"Dolvin, you might want to try one of the keys on the ring Calephe just used."

GM DevilDoc |

I see that I have been mistaken here. The BOX is just a box. It has some torture implements on it but nothing special. The CHEST was locked and has been opened.

Calephe hands the Wayfinder to Tellerin. "Go ahead. Let's check out the other door, and see what's behind it." She heads to the door and looks at it.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

GM DevilDoc |

Calephe doesn't think that the door has any surprises, but it is locked.

GM DevilDoc |

Pausing to ensure the others are ready, Calephe unlocks then throws the door open.. to find a human curled in the corner of a small room and manacled to the floor. As the light from the room washes over him, he throws his arms up before him and cries out in surprise and an expectation of pain.

![]() |

Hskoro enters the room to secure it, "Perhaps the prisoner is the owner of the wayfinder."
Keeping an eye out for no surprises, "Fear not. We not here to hurt you. We send by Pathfinder Society to 'explore' ruins. We slaughtered big monster on otherside of door. He don't hurt you anymore."

GM DevilDoc |

The man gingerly lowers his hands, obviously incredulous. His eyes, dazzled by the light after so long in the room glow with hope as he realizes the truth of Hskoro's words. "Thank the Gods!!" he exclaims. "Please.. Help me! Get me out of here!" he lifts his hands to show manacled wrists and ankles. "Those damned lizards.. erm.. troglodytes were going to sacrifice me to their gods!" He stumbles, recognizing Hskoro as a Nagaji and hoping he didn't just offend.
As the group helps him, he explains his situation. "I am a Pathfinder too. I was exploring in the cairnlands on the day of the earthquake, and happened over this tower. I made it into the base, but then the troglodytes swarmed over me, and they have been beating me since. The big one wants to sacrifice me, so the rest didn't torture me as much as they wanted, but they certainly made their intentions clear!"

![]() |

Hskoro nods at the prisoner, "Trogs have weird gods."
Hskoro looks to the others, "Perhaps key found on big brute can unlock shackles. I suspect that armor and weapons belong to our friend here. Would be honorable thing to give back, also maybe use healing scroll on him. He looks like he needs it."
Hskoro turns back to the prisoner. "Our mission not done. After your stuff back and healed. You can join us or head back to report on your capture and freedom. Should be safe for you to leave if you take stairs directly down with no detour."

"of course" Dolvin sends out a pulse. The tiny blue butterflies fill the room with healing power. Channel : 1d6 ⇒ 3
-Posted with Wayfinder

GM DevilDoc |

I don't think anyone else needed the healing, so we can use that just as RP flavor! :-) Don't count that against your limit, Dolvin.
The team unlocks the manacles and gets the man to his feet. "I am in debt to you, my friends, and I will cannot thank you enough. My name is Balenar, and I would be glad to help you finish cleansing this place!!" The bard stiffly moves out of the small room where Dolvin heals his few wounds. More beaten and starved than anything, but the small amount of divine grace makes a difference as the healing flows over the man. He gathers his gear and puts on his armor, checking and rechecking the fit and the hang of his items before looking up and nodding that he was ready. The team heads back to the stairwell and begins ascending once more. After a few turns of the stairs, torchlight begins to fall from above, and the leaders can see the end of the stairs ahead.
Any last minute preparation??

![]() |

Tellerin is clearly excited to rescue the Pathfinder and hops from foot to foot as Calephe frees him and Dolvin heals him. "Rescuing a fellow Pathfinder! This will make for a great report! Balenar, sir, do you know how many of those troglodytes you saw? We've killed..." Tellerin counts on his fingers.
"Five? Or was it six? Anyone remember?" He shakes his head. "In any case, do you think there will be more of them up above? Any idea what to expect?"
"And... what ARE the troglodyte gods? We saw some shrine down below, but I don't think the troglodytes were worshipping there based on how it looked." Tellerin continues with a barrage of questions, pausing only long enough for Balenar to get out short responses before continuing with his own train of thought. He makes circles about the man as he paces quickly with excitement.
When the party arrives back at the stairs, he slows down, pulls out his crossbow and loads it.
"I guess we can talk later. If there are more dangerous things up ahead it pays to be ready."
