I am not sure I understand your movement. Where, exactly, are you moving to? Also note that leaving your current space at P3 exposes you to at least two AoO's: one from aurochs 4 and the other from dretch 3.

Map for this round

Male Angelkin Aasimar Paladin 6 Crimson Templar 1 Init +5; darkvision 60 ft.; Perception +9; HP: 87/87; AC 23, touch 12, flat-footed 24 (+7 armor, +2 Dex, +3 Shield, +1 Natural); F +15, R +10, W +10; +2 vs. evil, +2 vs Insanity or Confusion

I moved myself on the interactive map. Moving to flank with Arloric. I'll eat the AoOs.

aurochs, AoO vs Uriel: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Since you aren't smiting, I believe your AC is 25, so this hits.
gore damage vs Uriel: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
dretch 3, AoO vs Uriel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

As Uriel dashes into position behind the aurochs, the beast swings its head low, stabbing the paladin with a horn. The dretch tries to swipe at him with a claw, but Uriel is too fast and easily dodges it.

The aurochs' victory is short-lived. Two slashes with Radiance bring it crashing to the ground, dead.

Telerin steps back between the bridge piles, loads another bolt, and shoots at the tiefling.

Telerin, ranged attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
piercing damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4

It's a solid shot, and the tiefling looks badly injured.

One of the dretches chases after Uriel, and swipes again with its claw.

dretch 3, claw vs Uriel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

And, again, it fails to get through. The other dretch lashes out at Arloric.

dretch 2, claw vs. Arloric: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
dretch 2, bite vs. Arloric: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
bite damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

On the other side of the bridge, the tiefling caster utters the words to a spell, and 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 duplicate images appear around him shifting in and out so that it's difficult to know which one is the real tiefling.

Sensing an easier target, two tielfling converge on Arloric. The first slashes with its short sword.

tiefling 2, melee attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
tiefling 2, crit confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
slashing damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
crit damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

The other moves into clanking position, and does the same.

tiefling 10, melee attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
slashing damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Arloric looks gravely wounded, but is still in the fight.

But he will not survive another hit.

The tiefling that Alexa wounded cuts and runs, scrambling up the hill.
The one between her and the bridge steps up and swings with his sword.

tiefling 7, melee vs Alexa: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

But she's too fast, and dodges the strike.

With all the aurochs dead, Alexa looks over at the far side of the bridge and realizes that Arloric is getting quite trounced.

She grumbles and deliberately ignores the tiefling soldier in front of her to rush to his aid, Telerin's haste spell spurring her onward!

Moving to Q2. Should be flanking with Arloric now, AoOs be damned.

With a flash, her gladius strikes...

Flanking Sneak Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Sneak Attack Damage?: 1d6 + 2 + 3d6 ⇒ (6) + 2 + (2, 4, 3) = 17

60' of movement will only get you to Q3. You have at least two diagonals getting around enemies.

Arloric gives a victorious cry as the last auroch falls.

"The bridge still stands, defilers!"

Seeing he's about to be surrounded, he falls back to try and join Uriel.

Opening myself up to AoOs, but my "Hard to Kill" power will protect me.

Everyone's on the ground now. No one is left on the bridge that you know of.

Alrighty--then I'll use my last Mythic Point to Fleet Charge the rest of the way to get to a flanking position.

That will do it. You have enough movement now to avoid all but the first two AoOs at P14 (the tieflings do not have combat reflexes, so you don't provoke again moving past tiefling 7.

Alexa darts across the battlefield with unnatural speed.

tiefling 7, AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
tiefling 3, AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

She slams into tiefling 2's flank, and skewers them with her gladius. The tiefling doesn't even have time to cry out before collapsing, dead.

You also get an attack as part of Fleet Charge (in addition to your regular attack). If you were avoiding AoO's and using it to get your last 30' of movement, then you can take it against Dretch 2. Let's do that before Arloric moves.

@Arloric, with tiefling 2 down, you may have better escape options.

Hero Points: 0|Myth Power: 4/7|DR: 2/Evil|Female Aasimar (Emberkin) Rogue (Unchained) 7/Tier 2 Trickster|HP: 40/60|AC: 16/12/14|Saves: +4 Fort, +7 Ref, +5 Will (+7 vs. charm/compulsion)|Init: +5|Perc: +11

Fleet Charge Attack vs. Dretch! *Hasted*: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage?: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Alexa's momentum carries her further forward, her gladius raking across the dretch's hide before she skids to a halt.

Let me know if I'm allowed to get a sneak attack on the Dretch too.

No sneak attack. But that is a hit.

@Arloric, do you want to revise your move? If I don't hear from you tomorrow, I'll bot you and assume you don't want to take quite so many AoO's.

Yes, I can't remember which way I moved to revise it, though...

You're starting at O2. Alexa is now at Q2, and the tiefling at P2 is dead. I've updated the VTT to put you back there.

Using a withdraw action, you don't provoke at O2. Moving SE will provoke only once at P3.

Arloric, seeing the tide finally turning, falls back to rejoin Alexa so he can try to recover.

Should I withdraw further than where I am now, or is next to Alexa fine?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Are you asking me, the GM who may or may not be trying to kill you, or others in your party? :) I would stay close to your allies if I were in your position.

I'd rather you heal yourself somehow. Get some distance between yourself and the enemy.

I'd also love to resolve this encounter that's been going on for over a month now.

Arloric withdraws from the fight, looking for a safe avenue. He heads towards Alexa, but the dretch threatening Uriel lashes out at the bard with one of its claws.

dretch 3, AoO vs Arloric: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
slashing damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

It finds a weak spot in Arloric's armor, and claws slash into him. Arloric stumbles, then collapses.

Thanks to the Hard to Kill feature, Arloric is unconscious but stable, at -1 hp.

The tiefling engaging Darya withdraws, and comes to a stop next to one of his companions, ready to re-engage.

Tiefling 3 falls back alongside tiefling 7 using a withdraw action.

The tiefling closest to Telerin advances again, and brings her sword around.

tiefling 5, melee attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Her swing goes wide, and the elf easily avoids the blow.

Assuming that drops the dretch, I move toward Tiefling 10.

Uriel's sword slices through the dretch. With two strokes, Radiance cuts it down, and it winks out of existence.

Attack #2 was enough to finish off the dretch. You can take a 5' step between attacks and direct the third at the tiefling, though a 12 does not hit.

He steps toward the tiefling and slashes at them but is unable to land the blow.

Female Aasimar Paladin (Holy Light) 7/Marshal 2. HP 68/75 ; AC 20/10/20 (24/14/24 during SMITE); F+14 R+7 W+12; Init +3; Smite evil 3/day (1); LOH/Holy Light 9/day(3);Mythic 7/day (1) Acid 5, Electricity 5, Cold 5:Daylight (0/3)

As the tiefling she faces steps back to coordinate with his fellow, Darya looks at them both and smiles. With an uttered command, she takes a step forward and raises her shield, the burnished metal glowing with an internal magic and erupting in a brilliant burst of light as she takes the opportunity to heal some of her wounds.

The tieflings wince as the shield flashes with a brilliant light, but avert their eyes in time.

Telerin steps back, hugging the bridge pile, reloads her crossbow and fires again.

Telerin, ranged attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Her bolt goes sailing past the tiefling and thunks into the river bed.

From the south side of the river bank, the tiefling spell caster sees another target come into view, and produces two more searing beam of light, one aimed at Alexa and the other at Uriel.

fire damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 6) = 17

Alexa feels a mild burn as she's dealt a glancing blow, but Uriel takes his full on and smells it burn into his armor.

The remaining dretch turns towards Alexa, and attacks with both claws and its teeth.

dretch 2, claw 1 vs Alexa: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
dretch 2, claw 2 vs Alexa: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
dretch 2, bite vs Alexa: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

It rages at its futile assault, though its bite comes dangerously close.

Tiefling 7 holds.

The tiefling engaged with Uriel attacks with its sword.

tiefling 10, melee vs Uriel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

tiefling 5, melee vs Telerin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Her shortsword makes contact and draws blood.

The two tieflings near Darya team up. One goes north, the other goes south, and they move into flanking position.

Tiefling 3 is at zero hit points and is staggered.

@Uriel and @Telerin are up.

Telerin steps back again, loading another bolt and letting it loose.

Telerin, ranged attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

It just misses the tiefling, passing inches from their head.

The spell caster scowls angrily as his company of soldiers dwindles away. He gestures again, sending more searing beams of light towards Alexa and Uriel.

Alexa charges towards the tielfing spell caster with magically-enhanced speed, and his eyes grow wide at her rapid approach. She watches his mirror images shift in and around in a confusing, random fashion, but zeroes in on the real target.

He moves to dodge her gladius, but is fooled by her feint and finds himself unable to react when the real strike occurs. He hisses as the blade sinks into him.

More later..

The tiefling closest to Daria steps back, clearly trying to get away.

The one threatening Telerin steps forward again and swings.

It looks like I might just be able to get into flanking with Telerin with a single move action, but just want to confirm.

"Arloric, you're still not looking too good. Sure you're up to this?" Uriel says, laying a hand on Arloric's shoulder. Then he heads for the fight on the other side of the bridge.

"I have to be up to it, Uriel!" Arloric declares. "The battle is not yet over!"

I was in such a hurry last time that I forgot to update the map. Which I have just done. Tiefling 5 is running away. @Uriel, if you want to change your movement, go ahead. @Darya, you can get to Tiefling 5 in a single move action, if desired.

Note that Alexa and Arloric are not looking so hot, though Arloric is obviously better than he was, especially with Uriel's healing.

Racing after the fleeing tiefling, Darya attempts to cut the enemy down, quickly looking around the battlefield. "Where's Alexa?" she calls out to Uriel and Telerin.

Sorry Lexi, don't think I have line of sight given the pillars

Yeah. And the ridge too. :(

Not a ridge, but a channel. You are at the bottom of a dry riverbed and the banks slope up and away from you at the north and south edges of the map.

Darya darts to the fleeing tiefling and slays her with a stroke of her sword. The tiefling's body falls backwards and tumbles down the slope into the riverbed.

"HO THERE!" Arloric bellows to Darya, pointing with his sword to where Alexa went. "THATAWAY, DARYA!"
