EDIT: being a surprise round, I believe it's either/or since we don't have both a Standard or a Move action :(

I know, that is why I was looking for a ruling if a 5' step counted as a move, or part of the standard action. Surely, someone has asked this before, is there a forum query out there?

In that case, never mind my Move Action then. That'll likely happen next round, assuming the roaches don't eat me.

I've faced a similar conundrum and it appears the consensus is you can always take a 5-foot step (barring particular circumstances such as standing in difficult terrain) during a surprise round or even when you're prevented form taking free actions, since it's actually not an action but its own separate thing. I don't know it there's enough space for Alexa to actually end up in an unoccupied square, though.

Good. That's how I saw it as well. And, it looks like Alexa intends on pushing through this, she even has her 1st round actions set in that post.

As for the 3NPCs, they're going to slow you down by around half, or more depending on your speed. Because their extensive injuries speeds are slowed to 15'. That is if you take them along.

Less than that, actually. Aberus is in medium armor so his movement rate is 20'.

Also, this group would never go into a skirmish if they never needed to and would snipe from the door. Then I started introducing demons that can teleport. That changed their way of thinking quickly.

In our tabletop group's last campaign I played a fighter (a straight fighter w/ no prestige classes and nothing non-core, which is quite doable in PF). Our party wizard would dimension door myself and the party's paladin right next to the big enemies in combat. It was astonishingly effective and stumped our GM for a while. Took him a few sessions to establish realistic and plausible tactics that countered this. The main problem with realistic and plausible being that the heroes learn from each battle, but the enemy can't because they're dead.

Of course, a key component of this tactic is a wizard crazy stupid enough to voluntarily put themselves 10' from melee.

One of the great things about Magi is that they can do it without needing a wizard.

I think the caster of dimension door gets sickness or something and cant act that round or something like that.

I had a flight schedule change which means I'm leaving early early morning instead of tonight, and will end up missing most of the day tomorrow. I'm turning in for the night so I can get up at 3am. :P

From this point on, I am fine with anyone here declaring an action for Aberus, including Asmodina. Stats are up-to-date on my profile page.

I'll check in here when I am able to update regularly.

General plan for the next round:

Aberus is ready to heal if needed. Since he doesn't have the Selective Channel feat his preference while in combat is to heal individually rather than channel. He can convert any of his 1st level spells to Cure Light Wounds. Start with Sanctuary, then Shield of Faith.

If the party opts to draw the roaches out of the cavern and tunnels, he'll participate in melee with his morning star.

Channel uses remaining: 3
Touch of Glory uses remaining: 5

Not if you've taken the Dimensional Agility feat. Then a Magus can use spell combat to cast DD and full attack in the other end.

Guys, I don't want to harp or be a buzzkill but when you attack or move can you give me the details of how far you are moving, or what kind of move you're doing? Same goes for your attacks. Some of you have multiple weapons and are just saying that you're attacking. Just looking for a little more detail and panache, that's all.

I'll be unavailable most of Sunday (CDT) as well as Monday until mid-late afternoon (PDT). If you want to handle Aberus until I am able to check in again, let me know.

Because he delayed his action he is now after Uriel in the initiative order. His plan is to retreat back out to the main cavern so the rest of the party can engage the roaches.

He may get attacked by roaches first, but he has high HP and decent AC so he's OK with this. The point was to help protect Alexa's withdrawal (and be there in case she needs urgent healing if something gets through her boosted AC).

I am confused.

When I looked at the map before my move, Alexa was still in the tunnel after her action. Now she's outside the tunnel. My action was based on the assumption that she was exposed in the tunnel with roaches still bearing down on her, but now it looks like she moved off turn.

What did I miss?

She's been posting about doing acrobatics as move actions to get away from the cockroaches. And, I realized that if I didn't do something this battle was going to bottleneck and get frustrating, especially with the readied actions. And how the map is laid out the cockroaches would / could only attack her. I'm not in the mood to kill you just yet since you've taken the torch to rescue the NPCs. I'd like to kill them first. Likely, during a boss battle or a fight of some significance, I'll keep things more regular and orderly. This is just a fight with dog-sized bugs. Plus, you're fine Aberus. I don't think I harmed your action.

I used my move action to move Ithilwen out of the bottleneck :( ... Alas, if a roach doesn't come into 15-ft.-range, my readied action is simply going to be wasted.

Absolutely. I wish we had some prepared that would be useful – obscuring mist would do more harm than good, as they have tremorsense; and vermin are immune to sleep, though only Arloric would possibly know that in-game. Unless Aravashniel has some ace up his sleeve...

Hey, everyone! I am finally home, but I am wiped. Got up at 3:30 am EDT to drive 1-1/2 hours through thunderstorms for a 7:25 am flight that ended up delayed 2-1/2 hours forcing me onto a later connecting flight home. So I am officially done for the day.

I will get caught up in the morning.

Fair enough. I wouldn't have cast Shield of Faith if I knew she was already out of the way, though. That was mostly to protect her from the next round of attacks until she could move.

Looks like a plan is developing if it isn't developed, and it looks like you're opting for the hard way and fight the giant cockroaches. I'm sure with some roasting they could be food. Maybe some magic might make things easier. And, here is the lineup.

[21] Cockroach 3: 5' step, readied an action.
    [20] Telerin:
    [17] Alexa:
    [17] Aberus:
    [15] Ithilwen:
