Hannik |

After a quick pass Hannik calls out, "Okay, everyone ready?"
What about provisions for Defender's Heart like food specifically? Only if the demons hadn't got around to the cellar or store room I guess.
Back up Spellcraft for the Scroll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Perception for food stuff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Kira recognises a potion of protection (Shield of Faith, CL1) but it takes Hannik to identify the scroll of healing (Cure Medium Wounds, CL 3). However, any provisions they find have been spoilt by the demons' depredations.
With their new charge in tow, they start to head back to Defender's Heart. The wind is biting and carrying flecks of snow as they weave through the ruined streets.
Perception check, DC 10:

Jod, Rhok and Mulluq move up to the alley. About halfway down they can see a young woman surrounded by three knights. The warriors' armour is blood-spattered and they seem exhausted, but one of them still wears a shredded tabard with a symbol of an orange sun.
Knowledge (Local) or Knowledge (Nobility & Royalty), DC 12, +5 if you are a Kenabres local:
One of the knights has removed his helmet. His is unshaven and his hair is matted and dirty. His eyes are red-rimmed and haunted. He holds the girl by her hair with one hand, and holds a sword with the other ready to run her through. "Your sacrifice aids the cause of good," he rasps in a tired voice as he prepares to thrust the sword into her body.
Knowledge (Local) or Knowledge (Religion) or Knowledge (Arcana), DC 15, +5 if you are a Kenabres local:

Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

Knowledge Religion 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Mulluq scowls, his prodigious fangs bared with his anger, before turning suddenly to gape-mouthed shock at Rhok. "Rhok! What call is there for such lewd language about this poor woman's encounters?" He turns to the men, "Stay your blade. There is never good to come from taking the life of another in sacrifice!"

Kira Valerious |

Know Local: 1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 5 = 13
Know Relig: 1d20 + 6 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 5 = 20
Watching from the end of the alley, Kira too shouts. "Hold, there has been enough bloodshed. Killing innocents will never bring strength to your blade. Give up on your old wive's tale."

Hannik |

Hannik motions for Ghroth to stay with her. With one arm around Ansell holding him close she huddles with Kaygan and Sol and Kira. From what she can overhear she shakes her head and mutters to Kaygan, "What in the hells? If this is how we are fighting demons now, what is the point?"

Jod Eastwind |

Jod draws back on his bow, ready to loose the arrow if the knight does not comply.
"Are you so sure that you would die for it? And you two. If you would stand aside and watch this, she's worth more than the lot of you together. Let. Her. Go."

Jod Eastwind |

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
In a low voice to his cousin beside him, Jod says, "Well, they've let her go. Do we really want to fight them?"
Louder, he says, "A lot you know. He's done more good in her name in the last hour than most have done in a year. If you doubt me, return with us to the paladins and let them tell you. You know they won't lie."

Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

Unsurprisingly, Mulluq agrees with the man's claim, "You are correct, I am not worthy of her righteous glory."
Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Kaygan Veer |

Hannik motions for Ghroth to stay with her. With one arm around Ansell holding him close she huddles with Kaygan and Sol and Kira. From what she can overhear she shakes her head and mutters to Kaygan, "What in the hells? If this is how we are fighting demons now, what is the point?"
“Even in the face of such horror, there’ll always be foolish men,” answers Kaygan sadly. “And … it looks like we’re fighting now,” he sighs.
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Jod Eastwind |

Jod doesn't really get time for his speech as they are basically charging.
Ah, well. And I could have used that creative time elsewhere. Now they must die. I assume we are essentially in a surprise round - move or single attack?
Firing at the one in the lead: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Arrow sent, he drops his longbow and quickdraws his falchion.

Jod Eastwind |

No surprise, these are ordinary rounds. Map still incoming.
Ah, then let's go with Rapid Shot. -2 to that original unimpressive shot, please.
Jod lets fly with the first arrow and quickly nocks a second and sends it after the first. He swiftly draws his falchion to meet the oncoming attack.
Second arrow of rapid shot: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 2 = 8
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
This is, of course, assuming that someone that beat my initiative doesn't do something that would cause me to re-think that action.

Sol had a high initiative, but poor position. I imagine he can't even see the knights and if he could ya'll are in the way of a bowshot. I could try to grease them if I can get close.

Rhok Redmoon |

Knowledge Religion 1d20+4
Mulluq scowls, his prodigious fangs bared with his anger, before turning suddenly to gape-mouthed shock at Rhok. "Rhok! What call is there for such lewd language about this poor woman's encounters?" He turns to the men, "Stay your blade. There is never good to come from taking the life of another in sacrifice!"
"Aw, come on. These idiots think they can enchant their sword by impaling virgins. So I lied a bit, and probably saved her life. Reputation's overrated anyway."
Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed that that epic bluff check didn't amount to more. At least they threw the girl aside.

Jod Eastwind |

Hmm, they are closer to the mouth of the alley than I envisioned. I will arrange myself around Rhok and Mulluq when they place themselves. I believe the three of us would all be at the front - preferably myself and Mulluq immediately before Rhok.

Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

Rhok said Jod and he would check it out and asked for back up from Mulluq, so imagine the two of them would be just a little closer than me.
If we are coming from the west, put me in L9, if we came from the east, N9.

![]() |

Doesn't really matter, Let's say west cause that would give us the worse line of sight. That would dovetail with PR's and my impression that the knights were further down the alley.
Sol J9.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Sorry for my neglect - a few things to deal with.
Knight initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Initiative
Sol 22
Jod 21
Mulluq 15+
Knights 15-
Rhok 12
Hannik 11
Kaygan 9
Kira 6
Ghroth 3
OK, Sol moves - he didn't specify so I've popped him in L10. His move action suffices for his movement, so he still has a standard action on his turn.
Jod sends arrows into the alley but mostly for show as they whizz over the knights' heads.
Sol's standard action, if he choses to take it, then Mulluq.

![]() |

Sol reaches in to his belt pouch for a bit of rancid butter. A chant and a throwing motion toward the knights creates a slippery puddle at their feet.
Cast grease in L2-M3. DC 13 reflex save. Hopefully that cuts off the two in back. I'm out of spells for the day.
The spell can also be used to create a greasy coating on an item. Material objects not in use are always affected by this spell, while an object wielded or employed by a creature requires its bearer to make a Reflex saving throw to avoid the effect. If the initial saving throw fails, the creature immediately drops the item. A saving throw must be made in each round that the creature attempts to pick up or use the greased item. A creature wearing greased armor or clothing gains a +10 circumstance bonus on Escape Artist checks and combat maneuver checks made to escape a grapple, and to their CMD to avoid being grappled.
