Strictly, that's a bit more devilish rather than demonic (per the D&D interpretation) but it's cool whatever you want to do.
I know, Balor is the first one that comes to mind when I think of demons anyways. I just use the Grazzt image for what I mean by his coloration, build, etc (since he has weak horns, fangs, and claws as well), since it is marked as just the inspiration.
Regardless, I don't even get access to it until 11th level, and the Str increases only come again at 15th and 19th. A lot can happen before each of those benchmarks. If I manage wings from some other source before then, then I just may take Str. I normally don't really plan too far ahead with my characters, but I just wanted the visual and it worked out with the feats.
Nonetheless, do we have any other Char Gen guidelines? I know 20 pt buy, but how many traits, how much starting cash (average or rolled), any houserules, etc?

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

The house rules we use, such as they are, are in the page for this avatar. Pretty much the only things really applicable here are the hit point rolling rules and the level drain rules - the rest is for other campaigns, past and present.
For character generation:
- obviously we are starting at level 1
- 2 traits. One must be a campaign trait from the WotR Players' Guide
- starting wealth is maximum for your character class
Other than that, just run by anything a little out of the ordinary by me. I'll probably say, "Yes".
Be aware, for those of you who may have been hiding under a rock, but this campaign uses the Mythic Rules. As the campaign traits tie back into potential mythic paths, it'll be a good idea to make sure you have your mythic path and campaign train appropriately synched.

Hi Algar, we currently have six and I think seven would be unweildy, especially as I'd have to consider altering the encounters more to make them work and don't want to do too much conversion work given the other PbPs I have going. If somone drops out, you are in.

![]() |

I did think about the brawler, but it didn't 'speak' to me.
...If we have a cleric, but no arcane, I will play a Kellid summoner....
I need to see this. Make it so. I'll play the divine caster if I need to.
So. how about this:
- Vattnisse -divine caster, probably an Oracle
- Nevynxxx - a suspicious Inquisitor of Iomedae
- Aadvaark Barbarian - self-loathing tiefling paladin of Iomedae
- AinvarG - a ranger, or maybe a slayer
- Ithuriel (possible) - Kellid summoner
- therealthom - maybe a rogue with bardic tendencies

![]() |

Sheesh, are we anywhere closer to deciding who is playing what?
OK, look, we are going to have to prioritise. I'm going to roll randmoly to see who gets first choice, and then we'll work down from there. Aardvark and Nevynxxx have actually chosen. So it's a toss-up between thom, Vatters, Ithers and AinvarG.
therealthom 1d20 ⇒ 15
Vattnisse 1d20 ⇒ 13
Ithuriel 1d20 ⇒ 1
AinvarG 1d20 ⇒ 5
Right, so thom chooses first, then Vattnisse, then AinvarG, then Ithuriel.
If can come to a QUICK civilised arrangement, then fine, otherwise that's how we will do it.
EDIT: Or we can do something like Vatters' suggestion.

Just for clarity, we don't HAVE to take the Mythic path associated with the trait (as that was a BIG question that was raised when this AP first came out). They are enhanced by it, but not required.
I know for certain that Mulluq will be a Guardian, mainly as he always places others' worth far above his own, and would place himself in harm's way for them.
But, Touched by Divinity (the trait I took) fits the concept so much better than the Guardian trait (Exposed to Awfulness).

Nice. The infiltrator archetype is pretty cool.
The Monster Codex has a new mystery called Apocalypse; it is associated with Gorum and Rovagug and both deeply atmospheric and pretty damn terrifying.
So, my character has been plagued by visions of disasters and mayhem for years. However, these dreams have recently increased in both intensity and frequency, and the city of Kenabres (I wrongly wrote Drezen in my previous post), particularly the Tower of Estrod, has figured prominently in them. Thus, I (and maybe some friends or relatives) have made the trek to warn the locals. Of course, nobody has paid any attention to the fur-clad Kellid nutbar(s), and now it may be too late...
Thus, I'll be playing an Oracle of the Apocalypse. However, I'm not a charismatic lunatic trying to end the world; rather, I'm trying my damndest to stop it from happening, or, if that fails, make the remaking of all things as bearable as possible.

AinvarG |

I'm leaning toward the hunter aspect of a ranger. With your backstory, perhaps I've been dreaming of an opportunity to try my hand against the demons of the Worldwound, soaking up everything I can learn about them from anyone knowledgeable - or not - that will tell me a story.
However, I'm too young to go on my own, and I jump at the chance to accompany you when I hear that you are going. If you have developed a reputation back home as a nutcase, I conveniently leave out who I am traveling with. Once we reach Kenabres, I'm planning to spend all my time trying to sell my sword to the crusaders and distance myself from the doom-prophet - even if I am keeping an eye out for your prophesied armageddon at the same time. With that in mind, I would say we have not been in the city for long - a willing sword would be put into service very quickly.
I'm just trying to riff on your idea. Am I on the right track or did I go astray of what you had in mind?

![]() |

That dog'll hunt. I was going to Kenabres no matter what, and you grabbed the chance to come along because you're too young/too small/a girl/something else to be taken as seriously as you want to be back home.
OR, if you want, you're coming along because you think I'm right, and I need all the help I can get. I haven't really decided if I was dispatched by concerned elders, or if everyone was glad to see the weirdo that's always screaming in his sleep go.

AinvarG |

Hmm... Campaign traits kind of make it sound like I have been near the Worldwound before. Maybe that's why my parents won't let me return - they fear that I've been tainted by my experience and that it's drawing me back... so I didn't tell them where I was going, either.
I'm already wracked by guilt and we haven't even started!

AinvarG |

You might give a thought to the mythic path you want to follow, as well. I'm pretty sure Champion is what I will follow. The associated trait from the campaign guide works; I was thinking that it said I was captured and taken to the Worldwound, but it says I was captured by cultists - that, sadly, could happen anywhere. But it could be used to explain my desire to hunt them and their demonic masters down now...

First draft: I am planning on the Stolen Fury campaign trait, so perhaps therealthom and I can work out some common background in addition to my familial link with Vattnisse' character.

Jod has dimly remembered a night when he was young and cultists kidnapped him to use him in a ritual that failed - somehow, even in the dead of night, he was suffused with daylight and the foul energies of the ritual were diffused. In the last five years, the memories have become sharper and a voice has spoken to him in his dreams - "I saved you from the demon-worshipers and used their foul ritual to make you stronger so that you might fight for me."
Believing the voice to be that of Sarenrae, he has dedicated himself to becoming a weapon of the Dawn Goddess against demons. He finds himself on the road to Kenabres to venture against the hordes of the Worldwound.

Here's a first draft of my oracle. I need more background info (such as where I'm actually from, for example), but it is mostly finished.
Still need a background. Still got cash to spend. Think everything else is covered though.
Opinions?
Your stats seem unusually good for a 20-point character?

Your stats seem unusually good for a 20-point character?
Gah! I used PCGen and appear to have hit the wrong point buy level! Fix coming... This is why I should never be left to do char gen alone :)

![]() |

My comment would be that, apart from WIS, you've spread your stats about fairly thinly, especially DEX given you intend to specialise in the crossbow (which means you don't need STR much, for example). While having dump stats is a bit metagame, point buy sort of lets it happen and it might make for a more powerful, if less versatile, character.
And while it may be more for the future, I might consider a heavy crossbow, Rapid Reload and Vital Strike feat combo, especially as the loss of added STR damage won't tell with a crossbow. (As you can tell, as a GM I'm a bit of a frustrated player - I never get to roll up characters much, and I then get twitchy if I'm not controlling things.)

![]() |

Ok. I'll work out a summoner today.
- Vattnisse - Rhok Redmoon (Kellid, Oracle of the Apocalypse)
- Nevynxxx - Kira Valerious (Inquisitor of Iomedae)
- Aadvaark Barbarian - Mulluq'Tar Sheptat (Tiefling, Paladin of Iomedae)
- AinvarG - Jod Eastwind (Kellid, Ranger Infiltrator)
- Ithuriel - (Kellid Summoner)
- therealthom - (Bardic-Rogue)

Hannik |

Here's a bare bones placeholder and the beginnings of stats. I wasn't looking to make a female character, but the icon appealed more than any of the male ones I sorted through. I have always imagined the Kellids as Innuit which may or may not be accurate at all.
I'm planning on a biped ripper type eidolon with this being the general idea.
The trait seems to indicate that although she is Kellid she has been adopted and is a native of Kenabres. Is anyone else a resident?

Rhok Redmoon |

Apart from a bit more background, Rhok's ready to roll. It really bugs me having such a low Perception skill, but it fits with his preoccupied personality. He's no raving, oblivious lunatic, though, thust a tired man obsessed with the important things in life. Such as the end of all things. ;P
AinvarG, where should we be from. Numeria? Land of the Mammoth Lords?

![]() |

Rhok's ready to roll
I see what you did there...
Land of the Mammoth Lords would be cool (both literally and figuratively). If you are from there, you might want to take Giant as a language (since the place is crawling with frost giants) rather than Draconic.

Rhok Redmoon |

Good point. Let's do that.
UPDATE: AinvarG, we are Beltpelters from the Realm of the Mammoth Lords. Unless you object, of course.
Should look a bit better now....
I'm wondering about stabalize, it's useless once we become mythic, but is it useful until then?
One small thing - you have five orisons, one more than you are supposed to. Or does everyone get Read magic as a bonus 0th level spell? It's kinda necessary for all spellcasters, after all...

![]() |

Actually that one is right. It's the favored class bonus for being a human inquisitor from the APG as discussed here

AinvarG |

UPDATE: AinvarG, we are Beltpelters from the Realm of the Mammoth Lords. Unless you object, of course.
I have no objection because I really don't know anything about the regions, so I have no preference.
I'm debating whether I will change the trait or not. I kind of considered him to be obsessed with how to kill demons, so it makes sense for him to pick up knowledge (planes). I can wait to invest ranks in the skill just so we have more bases covered out of the gate. I will review the available traits again.

![]() |

Just to let people know, my boss is in from Germany and we went out lastnight, hence my being a bit quiet over the last day or so.
I hope to start on the gameplay thread tomorrow some time. While I appreciate that some of us are still finalising our characters, we can have a bit of "getting to know you" stuff as the PC start posting before the action kicks off, giving people time to finish their characters while advancing the game.
Also, we might need to look anew at the campaign traits. A lot of people (well, three) have chosen the Touched by Divinity one and that could be a bit problematic (especially as people have been touched by different divinities) while nevertheless appreciating that they are appropriate for the characters for various reasons. I'm inclined to change the backstories associated with the campaign traits as necessary to fit in better with the characters' backstories (rather than require people to change their characters' backstories to fit with the campaign traits) to make the other campaign traits more attractive. I'm also keen that people choose the campaign trait associated with their intended mythic path, as they provide practical game mechanic benefits which mesh with the related mythic path - there are six mythic paths and six PCs, and while we don't have to hit every base a good coverage would probably be to everyone's benefit.
And yeah, Beltpelt. Named for the pelt below one's belt? Perhaps you can tell an oracle of the clan by their ceremonial merkin?

![]() |

Go to town on my char if you like. I'd love input, I don't build chars much, and I've never done an inc before, so all input much appreciated. Not saying I'll use what you suggest, but I'll read it and consider ;)

Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

Considering I'm heading for the Guardian path outright, I could switch to the guardian based one. It could still work, considering his backstory, he did manage to survive during a time he shouldn't have.

![]() |

Yes, and we can maybe rejig it so it's less about you surviving a horrid ritual as maybe being the product of a horrid ritual - though since your character has no memory of that from being adopted as a baby, it could be moot in the short term.

Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

Not sure if you're talking to me or Nevyn, but the guardian based trait is 'Exposed to Awfulness'. It's where I survived a demon attack and ended up in a coma. The champion one is the ritual one.
