As the noise of battle abruptly ends, Janosz runs around the corridor, pulling arrows out of kobold corpses. "Anyone have some spares? I'm down to about 30 or so."

Lightbringer indicates with a quick nod that Janosz may use some of his arrows.

LB has 18 arrows - he doesn't use his bow much, so if Janosz runs short he can grab a few of those.

I use 5 charges; gets me, Janosz, and Trose up to max h.p.
Runzyl's down 2, Ez is down one; want me to max them?

Also, LB is down 17 h.p.; want me to use my wand half-powered on him, or are there more efficient means? Doesn't Ez have a wand to heal him?

Also, not sure where the Alphabets, Gnarly, and Choom are at.

I think Ez has got a wand of repair damage.

A couple of the Alphabets are probably not at their best.

I pick up one of the armored kobold corpses, and toss it against the portcullis.

Then I check again to see if the trap has been discharged:

Lightbringer glances in to the large rooms to the north and east – any other visible exits or things of interest within?

Somewhat annoyingly, even after crisping a kobold, Trose discovers that the electrical charge still seems to be on the gate. He will have to disarm it.

+2 from Gnarly.

A quick recce proves that the rooms to the north and east are barracks and don't lead anywhere. There are no more kobold troopers to be found.

As the party plays with the lock, searches the premises and heals the wounded, Janosz wanders over to Choom. "How are you holdin' up, Choom?", he asks. "We're almost there now, y'know. Just a few more obstacles to overcome."

Choom nods and swallows. "Is tough. Choom nearly die. And Choom still scare of Triune. But Choom OK so far, and maybe be king soon."

Janosz nods at Choom's words, pointing at his neck. "A troll almost tore my head off in Sharn once. Kinda makes you think a little differently about things, almost dying. You've been doing good so far, though."

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

"Once we return Norn, she'll prob'ly try to hire us and send us to Argonessen or Xen'drik on some fool's errand, hoping to get us all killed along the way. Damn nobles and their politicking... I'll go to either of those places, but I wanna go for a better reason than that."

He shakes his head. "Bah, listen to me, rambling like some old frog-peddler in a lotus-house. Gotta get the job done first." He wanders off, looking for lost arrows.

Also, Janosz does a quick run-through, seeing if any footlockers or closets contain keys or anything similarly useful. How many beds in the barracks?

The barracks area is quite large - probably room for about 100 (kobold-sized) bunks at least. However, actual number of bunks is much less - maybe 40. A thorough rummage through the footlockers and so on would take a long time, and there is nothing much of value immediately obvious.

I don't think we should be going off searching kobold barracks - we're still on the clock here, as soon as Trose can get the portcullis open we should go through. The more time we spend, the more time the Triune have to organise their defences.

A few rasping breaths later, Runzyl stands and surveys the carnage silently, nodding his head in grim approval. He glances down at the insignificant flesh wound across his forearm and smirks derisively.

"A pity none of you are bards. This day would be worthy of song."

He turned to regard Janosz and motioned to the gore-splattered quiver on his hip. "You may take what you wish from my quiver. I strongly doubt they will serve me well indoors."

I've got 17 arrows.

Internal cables begin to knit themselves back together with the flare of a wand, and cracks in darkwood components fuse back together seamlessly with another. Ezreal circles the warforged inspecting and making repairs until Lightbringer is in perfect working condition again. "That adamantine plating must be worth it's weight in gold. Not a scratch on it." The mage nods appreciatively and catches the warforged's eyes, "We must be close now. I'm going to try to stay close enough to ignite your blade when the Triune shows itself. I can do this twice if we need to, but it doesn't last long- only a few minutes."

"Rodergo, we know one of the triune has the ability to cloud mens' minds. Does your god allow you to hedge out this kind of magic? More importantly can you keep our elven friend here free of their influence? I can likely unravel whatever they might do, but better to prevent it in the first place."

Hey- wasn't there a potion one of those kobolds tried to drink? Was it consumed or still over there?

I begin working to disable the trap, focusing carefully after watching the kobolds eyes explode when their juices boiled.

It is tense work, but Trose is able to disable the trap. Of course, that doesn't deal with the lock.....

Ezreal Farlowe wrote:

Good point - that one is gone (dropped and spilt) but the other nearby kobolds all have potions. There are 11 in total - try an Alchemy check to identify them.

Lightbringer nods in thanks to Ezreal, then returns to patiently watching Trose trying to figure out how to disarm the trap on the gate. When he declares it done, the warforged hefts his sword.

"Now. Do we lift, or break?"

Ezreal unstoppers a vial and sniffs it, holds it up to a light, and eventually dips his pinky in and tastes it.

Yeah- alchemy probably isn't going to work out for me, but spellcraft lists a dc for identifying potions if that works for you.
Craft: Alchemy 8+3 = 11
Spellcraft 16+13 = 29 vs DC 25 (but requires 1 minute)

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

Oh, and I slapped the 11 potions up on a group inventory, pending identification.

They are Cure Light Wounds.

that makes 19 potions of clw. I think I'll offer out 3 to each of our npc's.

"If we don't find a way to unlock it right away, we might as well break it. It's not like the kobolds don't know we're here."

Also, I'll take all of Runzyl's arrows. Thanks!

Open Locks: 11+8+6(AP)

After a bit more fiddling with his thieves' tools, Trose unlocks the portcullis. About 30' further down the corridor (past a passage to the left) sits another portcullis, lowered and (presumably) locked.

A quick glance down the left-hand passage reveals the latrines.

"There is no time for such indulgences of the flesh."

Lightbringer hustles back to the battle site, grabs a kobold corpse, and throws it against the bars of the new portcullis.

Hmm, that maybe wasn't the smartest thing you could have done.

Flame explodes along the whole corridor, engulfing everyone.

Everyone takes 10 points of fire damage, Reflex DC 15 for half. And you have been very lucky with the number of 1's and 2's I rolled for damage.

Choom and Gnarly both save and, as they have Evasion, take no damage. Arek, Bool and Ceshto all fail and take 10 damage.

Gnarly and Choom stagger out of the latrines, where they look refuge from the fiery onslaught. Gnarly glares at Lightbringer from a soot-stained face, his beard smoking gently. "Next time," he snarls, "Leave the traps to the people who understand these things!"

From flat on the floor where he threw himself to avoid the blast, Ezreal says, "Oww... Well that's one way to find a trap, but honestly I prefer Trose's method."

The mage stands and inspects himself. Minor burns on his arms and though he can't see it, he can certainly feel them on the right side of his face and neck. He would need a haircut after this was said and done. Kadesh flaps and squawks angrily from above, but he can feel the raven was unharmed despite it's agitation.

"Okay let's see here..." With the wand, he begins to repair scorching damage on the warforged. Eventually Kadesh settles back on his shoulder, where he glares at Lightbringer during the repairs.

Reflex 19+4 = 23, 5 damage
Kadesh: Reflex 16+4 = 20 no damage (improved evasion)
RLW: 7+1 = 8 hp for Lightbringer

100xp each for the electric trap, by the way. Nothing, as yet, for the fire trap.
