Artificial Alliances- A Starfinder PbP (Inactive)

Game Master GM-Gathrix

You awake to find yourself in a cell that is barely accommodating to your body. It is minimal in the extreme only having a cot that comes out of the wall. There is an opaque force field in front of you revealing only distorted shadowy forms patrolling past your cell. If they can hear you, they ignore you and any attempt to handle the force field only ends in pain.

As the hours go by you become hungry and just as you think it, food is dispensed from a small panel that forms from the wall. Once you take the mushy substance, that actually doesn't taste have bad, the panel disappears as soon as it arrives. Similar things occur when other bodily functions are required.

After several days of isolation and horrid dreams of being examined by strangers, the force field opens and robotic guards seize you with tasers and chains of pure energy. They escort you out of the cell and put you in a sort of court yard with others chained as you. Beings of all types are here, known, and unknown.

Hi all! I am Starfinder GM and I intend to run a PbP game when the game comes out. One of the things PbP suffer from is lack of commitment. So I have an idea to maybe remedy that. I am going to let anyone and everyone that wants to play in this game until the release of the actual game. If you can post once a day after Friday until then, you are in the running for consideration when the game is released. So Roleplay! Have fun! I will post discussion and game tab soon.

The Setting:
At the start you are all captives. How, who, or why is unknown to you. The only contact you have outside of other prisoners is Robot Security guards and they are very direct and have little time for idle chatter and any disobedience is met with pain. The prison looks to be of high technology, but there are no windows to know what planet or part of space you are currently. When Deadsuns AP comes out I will probably use that for at least a basis of the rest of the campaign.

Rules during this trial:
Everything will be a flat roll d20 roll. If you require a reason, it is simple. Your captors have insured that you are all on equal footing so any bonuses or minuses to your roll have become null and void. The practical reason is of course that the rules are not out yet.

Character Generation:
At this point backstory is going to be the most important. Included should be why you believe you were captured. Were you a criminal? Someone with a bounty on their head? Or are you like most here and have idea. Create the character you want to play without concern of specific roles at this time. Any races included in the Starfinder First Contact as possible PCs will be allowed. Do not worry about equipment, you currently only have a white prisoner outfit.

Gameplay is up. Jump in when you have a character ready and introduce yourself.

What do you think of a half-human, half-android cyborg type? I could move it to one or the other when the game comes out if that isn't allowed.

... I'll just go for it since you said have no concern for rules, but if you personally don't want a cyborg in your game, just tell me and I will change it.

For races, anything in the First Contact FRPG day supplement is allowed, I covered that in the character generation spoiler. For cyborg it might depend on what you want augmented. I have a feeling they may treat augments as items, but if not we can figure something out if you post quality responses often enough. Understand that any augment you have only provides basic functionality currently, it will be interesting to see if they touch on that subject in the core rulebook and how to possibly increase them.

Makes sense. If they don't allow it, it can just be flavor for the backstory. I was just asking because it isn't there, but I wanted to try something like that... but I can just be human underneath for now, or take a dip in nanite sorcerer (if they have something like that) to represent the mods.

I made an alias with a backstory and posted, and can flesh it out more after work.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Sounds good. I was just pointing it out in case you missed it. I have always liked Cyborgs, Jet from Cowboy Bebop is one of my all time favorites.

What about ones that aren't in that but have been otherwise revealed, such as the Shirren, Vesk, Ysoki, or Kasatha?

Good catch, yes the "core" races also. Should they change from the current perceived versions we will find something accommodating.

FYI... I just found the cybertech rules in the technology guide, and it is super-mega expensive. The only thing she could probably afford at this level is cyberart, which is just like a glowy tattoo. So, has to be just flavor either way... she'll have to level up to grow into her background. :)

Bump.

Someone come and jump in with me, please. All you need is a general background idea since we don't have rules yet. :)

It's less structured for now, I know... but still fun. :)

Okay, I'll bite. Be in shortly.

Still taking on players. Prove you are committed, and allow me to prove I am committed, and when Dead Suns comes out we can enjoy a good PbP experience together.

I'll jump in too as a sarcesian operative. Mercenary, ex-pirate now a recruit as spy for someone with wealth who he doesn't know much about....

Jumping in as well! Cowboy Bebop! Woo!

Great, glad to have you

This is such a cool idea! I'll be back in a few hours with a concept and short background if you're still taking potentials.

Already threw something together and posted in gameplay but I have to say I like this idea. Looking forward to starfinder and plan to play in some of the events at gencon this year.

Sounds good, happy to have any that wish to apply and those that can show a commitment to play will have a spot in my Dead Suns pbp

Where can I find this supplement? Is it available online?

Yes, you can get the PDF here on this site. Just search for Starfinder First Contact under products and it will be in your downloads.

The "People of the Stars" player companion also has some good information about player races that aren't in the First Contact information.

Got a spacefaring human here. No specified class yet but I have his background geared towards a likely mechanic once the rulebook is released.

I will be entering a soon as I get a backstory written up as an android mechanic whose exocortex is a somewhat insane AI which was originally one of the past androids to inhabit my character's body, but tried to preserve their mind by moving it to a separate computer in the same body before renewing.

Hoping in shortly as well. Thinking an aged ysoki operative.

Ok sounds good

I will continue to let people into this game until the release of Starfinder, but the more you post and the quality of your posts will be the determinate of a spot in the AP
