Kerri:

Ameiko grimaces and strains as she gets up and sits against the wall. She looks at Shalelu and motions towards the door. Shalelu gives a huff but eventually leaves, closing the door behind her. She takes a deep breath trying to clear her head and then begins.

"I've been doing some digging into my family history as somethings just don't make sense. Ever since dad died three years ago I've been looking into some things. According to what I was told we arrived here some 20 years ago but I've found proof in the town records that the Kaijitsu’s were one of the founding families of Sandpoint...and sand ponit's been around for about 60 years. That just doesn't make sense to me. So I was investigating some things in the swamp when I was attacked. According to my father we arrived here on two ships, the Kaijitsu Star and the Kaijitsu’s Blossom. He said that we were transporting fireworks on the ships...and the goblins have been using fireworks...and now you say the undead stole something from the goblins. I can't help but think that this is all connected somehow. she stops with a long breath and lets you process what she has told you before continuing.

"If you're going back into the swamps could you please try to find my family ships...seeing that the swamps haven't been well mapped I haven't been able to find them. If you could do that and then try to figure out of there is any connection between the undead, the goblins, and my family I'd be really really greatful. I'll let you get some rest now...you look exhausted"

And with that the two of you go to bed.

The next morning you all arrive in the Sheriffs office and you see Shalelu leaning against a wall. "About time ya'll got here. Due to the friendship between Ameiko and the little one" she pauses and motions to Kerri "I'll be questioning the goblin...I don't see why you want me to do this but...I'll do it. What exactly do you want to know? Oh and I was promised I could have my way with him after...so don't be surprised."

Sorry that update took so long...took a while to figure out exactly what info to give Kerri with out ruining anything...this DMing thing is hard.

Wiping the last vintage of sleep from her eyes, Mary is glad to see that Shelalu is here to interpret with the goblin chief is saying.Once we have our answers and if the sheriff decrees it you can do with him as you will. But first I would like to know why the skeletons attacked, where they came from, how did you alone survive, where did the skeletons go, why did the skeletons leave. Once these are answered to our satisfactionmaybe more questions will present themselves.. Mary will the be quiet as she waits for the answers or response from the interrogation.

Looking over at Shalelu, Shianne shrugs her shoulders. [b]"Do with it as you will, but first, we do need answers as there may be a more dire threat to the village."

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I have had a very limited access to the internet and couldn't post any sooner.

DM:
I look to both Ameiko and Shalelu, "We have found a ship of Tian desgin, we even found a hair pin in a locked chest, that Tani managed to open and has claimed for himself. Maybe when you are feeling better we can all take you to it?"

In the morning I follow Shalelu to the Sheriff's office and silently listen to the questioning.

Kerri:

Amekio smiles at the idea and nods before she drifts off to sleep.

Shalelu sighs and takes the keys from the sheriff. "Weapon on the desk please the sheriff instructs and you can see a little flame of anger reflect in the elves eyes as she places her bow on the desk.

The elf walks tensly over to the cell, opens it, and walks over to the goblin. You can see it takes most of her reserve to restrain herself as she punches the goblin in the face. A small trickle of blood runs from the creatures mouth as it wakes with a start. The two argue back and forth for quite some time and you can see the anger starting to grow with in Shalelu. She has to 'convince' the goblin to talk a few more times, swiftly kicking and punching the creature. After several minutes you hear Shalelu growl and scream something in goblin and she rushes from the cell. She makes a b-line for her bow and you can tell she's exausted all of her patience in dealing with the creature. The sheriff quickly jumps to his feet and takes the bow from the elf.

"NO!" the sheriff shouts as he snatches the bow from Shalelu who quickly spins around and, in a fit of anger, takes a swing at the sheriff. He quickly ducks out of the way and looks at her, anger starting to fill his expression. [b]"I suggest you calm your self...lest you find yourself in chains like him. You've been asked here by these brave adventurers and I suggest you do what they have asked of you."

A deep blush crosses Shalelu's face as she blinks a few times and takes several deep breaths, steeling her fried nerves. "You...you're right...I'm sorry." she says to the sheriff before turning to the party. She takes a few more breaths, collecting herself before she addresses the group.

"The goblins have been making raids of two ships they've found between here a west of there camp. That's where they've found the fireworks that they've been attacking the caravans with. According to him the skeletons came from the caves to the south of the goblin hold. The goblins were little match for even the small force that raided their village. The chief claims that there were only about 6 skeletons in total and that most of his men were killed by one very strong skeleton wielding a great sword. I don't know if I believe him...skeletons don't usually wield weapons...but that's all I was able to get from him.

Mary sits and ponders the information a minute before responding. She is try to remember all that the acolytes taught her of undead in class.

Know religion 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

The information that Shalelu gave them sounded strange indeed. Most skeletons used their bare hands to rend at people. What a skeleton would be doing with a weapon is quite unnerving.

What u say is true, Shalelu. Are you sure he is telling you the truth and not fabricating lies to end your stay? Normal skeletons don't wield weapons. If he is telling the truth than we definitely have something worse on our hands than goblins. As to these ships, i don't know where any wrecks are located, but he apparently does. Unless someone can show us how to get there than we might need him to take us. once the ships are clear then we can decide what to do about the caves that he mentioned. The only reason that I suggest this path is we might find some information from the ships that would help us.

Female Human Ninja 2

Listening carefully, Shianne looks at the others. "I'm not sure taking the goblin would be a good thing. Why not have him draw us a map to the ships and cave, or if you have one.. have him add those marks to it?"

Nodding to Shianne, Sheriff, do you have a map that we could borrow of the surrounding area and the marsh. That would be most helpful. If he is no longer of service, than I leave him in your capable hands sheriff to decide what to do with him. As the authority here, I will agree to whatever sentence you place on him. I wanted him brought in for questioning and that appears to be completed.
Shalelu, I know this was a difficult task of your, but you my thanks for what it's worth. This information may help save the lives of others.
If there is nothing else, then I will wait outside. I do believe that Kerri would like to claim the ear though.

Mary will walk outside and wait patiently for the sheriff and Shalelu to 'discuss' the manner in which the goblin is to be treated. If they want her input she will be close by reflecting on the coming day.

I look around the room, my eyes settling on Masaru, "We found a ship, that could be one of them. In fact I was speaking last night of returning to them for some personal goals." I then turn to face Mary, "I promised Shalelu that once she had spoken to the captive she could deal with him as she see's fit, I would like that to remain true. I am sorry that you made such a promise. I too hold strongly when my word is given. Yet I know that such a promise as you have made is beyond our control. This goblin has been brought before the local authorities for questioning about the attacks of goblins upon the people of Sandpoint. In addition to that information, he has give us clues as tithe where abouts of a group of skeletons that attacked his settlement. It is now up to the good sheriff here to decided his fate. He may very well agree with you that shalelu would be the best to carry out the judgement. However that is not our jurisdiction any more. We gave up that right when we brought him here. We must follow the laws that Sandpoint has installed or we become nothing better than the hordes or goblins we were so afraid of. Vigilante justice is no true justice at all. It is a temporary appeasing of the masses that if let unchecked will spiral out of control until they themselves are the target of vigilantes. This is the reason the we have laws to follow.

I again am sorry, bit I can not condone this act without the legitimate authority agreeing to such an act. If you convince him then I have no problem with you fulfilling your promise.

Mary will then turn and face the sheriff waiting for his verdict, the whole mention of discovering a ship went past Mary as she extolled the virtues of society. You can definitely tell this is a subject that she is adamant about.

I look to Mary, "The Ancestors always taught me as long as you are helping people it is alright to break a Law here and there. As long as breaking that Law does not hurt more people in the process."

I then turn to face the Sheriff, "What do you think, once we find out where the walking Skeletons are coming from, can I keep my promise to Shalelu?"

The sheriff looks at the group a bit confused but then shakes his head. "Oh don't worry, he will be executed in his own time I just didn't want Shalelu doing it right now. My men still want to have a crack at him so we know how much of a threat they present to Sandpoint still. With the amount of ears and the very limited amount of intel we've been able to gather I really don't think the goblins will be a problem though. I will have my men talk to the goblin and once thats done I will let Shalelu do what she is so ready to do."

Shalelu looks to the group and nods "I have a map of the swamp that I've been working on. I've noted the goblin camp, the two ship wrecks I've been able to find, and the caves. I've never been inside the caves but I have been down to where they are on my scouting missions. If you need anything else I'll be at the Rusty Dragon...probably should be getting back since that miserable healer Koya will be stopping by soon and will go off her rocker if I'm gone..." She reaches into a pouch on her waist, pulls out a folded and creased map, and hands it to Kerri before she turns to leave.

So you have the information you were seeking is there anything else you want to do in town? If not where are you guys headed. I'm going to count the one ship found by Kerri, Masaru, and the others as explored so you only have one more ship wreck to find and explore and then you can head off to the caves.

I will see what I can do to get a map up in campaign documents...give me a couple days.

Female Halfling Sorceror - Ice Linnorm : 1 HP 6/6 | AC 14 T 13 FF 12| Fort+2 Ref +3 Will+3 | Initiative +2 | Perception +0 |

I would like to head to the remaining ship and then head to the caves. The only thing I would like to do before we leave is to buy some Masterwork Tools (Profession : Cooking). That should help us on our trip and it was the only reason Kerri agreed to getting the ears, the idea of a new knife set excites her. Is there a set in town, If so I will take 50 GP from my total.

No problem you can have your new knife set.

The sheriff looks at the party and smiles as they are about to leave. "As an additional thank you for all your hard work and your discoveries please take this as a token of our thanks. It should greatly ease your travels" he says as he hands a note to Mary.

It reads that everyone in the party is entitled to one free horse(or similarly size appropriate mount) rental at the Sandpoint stables.

Anything else Mary or Shianne want in town?

Female Human Ninja 2

Is Mas going to get his katana repaired while in town? If so, Shianne will take hers back. Also, if he wants that long bow, I'll give it to him.

Shianne shoots a glare at Shalelu at her derision of Koya, but manages to keep her mouth shut. "I'll accompany you back to the Dragon and say hi to an old friend. Meet everyone back here in a few moments, then head out?

DM:

Shianne will simply go check on Koya, say hi and socialize for a moment befroe heading back. She doesn't want Koya to know she's keeping an eye on her.

Masaru's sword will be repaired. Not sure if he wants the long bow or not

Shianne:
Shalelu seems a little put off that your friends with Koya. "So you like to talk to goblins and are friends with old bats...rather strange company you keep." she will say as you approach the Inn. You will find Koya tending to a wounded Ameiko when you get to the Rusty dragon. There are a few words traded between Koya and Shalelu and you learn that Shalelu is supposed to be on bed rest and not gallivanting around town.

She spends a few moments looking over Shalelu who fusses at her the entire time.

[b]"Really child, a woman of your age should be used to examinations by now..." Koya scolds.

Koya will then make small talk with you for a few moments. She looks tired and a little drained but otherwise perfectly healthy for a woman of her advanced age.

DM:

Shianne holds her tongue at Shalelu's comments, preferring to honor those older. Her face brightens a bit when she talks to Koya even though the time is brief. As she turns to leave, she pulls the long bow from her shoulder and asks, "Koya, would it be too much trouble to ask you to keep an eye on this for me? It's a bit long for my tastes, but I would hate to have it lost." With a bow, she turns to leave and join her new companions.

Those are admirable sentiments for someone who is outside of their own settlement. Doing good may be better than following the law, but what if you are a member of that society and have elected or chosen to follows the leaders who put those laws in place. Do you have the right to disregard any law that you disagree with as long s it doesn't hurt any person? What about those that don't have a voice? Animals and creatures that are protected by laws. According to you they may be affected by breaking a law since it doesn't affect people. Is animal cruelty ok then?

"Most animals are not under the same Laws as us and in their case most are unable to follow Laws, due to not being able to understand them. I agree you should ignore a Law just because you disagree with it, there are some Laws that must be kept no matter personal opinion. But if that Law is making people suffer, then I see no reason to ignore it and try to change it. For example if an Elder of a town made it a Law that the people had to give every coin to him or face being thrown out, then that Law would have to be broken as it is unnecessary and is causing hurt. Please understand that I do follow Laws, but being as I have spent a lot of my life living in the wild, some of them do not make sense to me. Perhaps we should continue this chat later on?" I look to Shalelu, smile and nod at her. I then join her and Shianne back to the Dragon where I go and speak with Ameiko, informing her of our planned journey and promise her that once Koya says that she is healthy, I shall take her to the ship she seeks.

Mary, just making sure you understand ... I personally agree with what you are saying and I don't want you to think that because I am writing to justify breaking Laws that I believe that they should all be broken. This is the first time I have had an opportunity to role-play a Chaotic Good character. Even more so the first time I have played and had the topic of Laws come up. I am enjoying the discussion between Mary and Kerri and don't want this topic to cause a rift between us as players that could make the game awkward for the others, which I have seen before.

Mathpro, are there opportunities to increase or decrease the relationship scores in this, if so will you be telling us when such an event occurs?

Shianne returns to catch most of what Kerri has said. Setting down her pack, she turns to her. "Well, if an Elder makes people pay coin to him at risk of being exiled, I would hope the townsmen would rise up and overthrow the tyrant. Of course, that would not be lawful either, but would be so effective." With a shrug she sits down on her pack.

Shianne: That depends on the society and the structure that they have set up. Some institutions have protocols set up to lawfully remove an official if the people disagree with him or her. Even then the problem arises if the people are uneducated regarding the inner workings of a government. It would seem that the people would be in favor of never paying any taxes, yet how would the government exist to perform public works or hire people to go on patrols protecting the area? But as Kerri suggests, let us take this conversation further at a different time. Now, with the state of affairs and the matter of finding the last ship and then the caves being of more import, let us turn our energies towards those matters. Let me grab my gear and I will be willing to join you again as we travel through the marsh.

After Marry goes off to retrieve her gear you all head to the stables, retrieve your free horses and head off. Its about an hour before high noon before you get away from sandpoint and on your way back towards the marsh. On horse back you travel much faster but it still takes you several hours to get to where your going. Can I get three survival checks from Kerri as she's trying to lead the party(she has the map).

Shianne you don't really notice anything threatening but you do see that your headed out of the swamps instead of deeper into them. The group stops and its a combined effort but you eventually get back on the right path. It takes you until dark to make it back to the goblin camp. However the alternative to hiking through the marsh it he dark when you can't see anything seems like the worse option. I believe we should camp here for the night. Perhaps we can find shelter and fortifications that are. Ore suitable to us civilized folk. If not we will have to clean up a bit first. Any recommendations on where we should bunk down for the night?

Mary parties heartily in the excellent fare that Kerri provides. At this rate Mary is going to gain a couple of pounds. Not that she complaining about the cooking mind you. Mary will also clean the dishes as her way of helping with the camping.

I must say Kerri, that you will need to teach me some of those recipes of yours unless they are a family secret. Even then we might hav to figure out a price for them.

So Mary has first watch. Who has second and third? I'll split up the night into three watches.

Mary:

You're search of the camp finds 12 general areas. There is a palisade that lies in shambles after the attack on the camp the other night. There is a pool in the south end of the camp that you would guess was there main water source. It is algie filled and smells rather...unclean. There is a pig pen that used to house a pig but its no where to be seen now. There are three dead goblins laying near the front of the pen and you would guess this is where Shianne was captured. There are guard posts scattered through out the camp. They are basic 10x10 square huts that serve as watch towers. Each has numerous windows affording excellent views of the surrounding area. There are six huts that served as homes for the tribe's goblins. You could tell that these huts used to house up to as many as half a dozen goblins each. There is also a large storage room that used to store tools, food, and other supplies but its pretty much empty now. You find an extravagantly decordated(for goblins) hut that is a lot "nicer" than the other 6 you found. In one of them you take the time to search and you find 23 gold and 3 more fireworks. You also find another nice hut but the door to it is locked.

Female Human Ninja 2

Finishing her supper, she thanks Kerri for the fare and offers to help Mary with the cleanup. Once done, she says simply, "I'll take second watch then," as she turns to gather her bedroll from her pack.

Laying her sword and bow next to her, she lays down and prepares to get a little sleep before then. Her sais lay next to her beneath the blanket within quick, unobserved reach.

Male Human Samurai (Sword Saint) 1

"Third watch, since its the worst one," Masaru said, joining his companions for a fair meal prepared by Kerri. He quietly thanked the halfling and was off to bed so he could rest before he had to wake up in the morning.

CRAP! Don't you hate it when the boards eat your posts...I had a nice long one all typed up...

Mary:

Once everyone is off to sleep you begin exploring the camp. Its bigger then you would expect and takes a good portion of your watch but eventually you explore everything.

Other than the front gate to the camp that lies in shambles after the skeleton attack a few nights ago, the rest of the 10 foot tall walls seem to still be in good condition.

You find a pool of algie covered stagnant water that you would assume they used as drinking water though it doesn't really seem fit for drinking and smells horrid.

A pen lies in the middle of the camp seemingly destroyed by the battle that happened around it. You see large pools of green blood and several goblin corpses laying scattered on the ground here, there flesh already starting to rot. You can see from some of the footprints on the ground that this is also where Shianne got captured.

There are 3 ten foot square huts that you would suspect served as watchtowers. Each has numerous windows affording excellent views of the surrounding area. One of them has taken some pretty good damage and from the scorch marks it looks like it was done by misfired fireworks.

There are a total of six huts that you would assume would serve as housing for the various goblins around town. According to the amount of dirt and grime in the houses you would estimate up to six goblins living in each hut. There are also two bigger huts that you see. The door to one of them seems to be stuck but you can't seem to find a lock so it isn't locked. The second bigger hut is also in much better condition than the standard living quarters you found. Giving a preliminary search you are able to find 23 gold and three more fireworks. You also find the remains of another hut but its been burned to the ground.

There is a storage shed in the far south corner. Looking in the window you don't really find anything of value and you see that everything was kept in a giant heap on the floor.

Masaru:

Masaru I'll need a perception check from our brave Samurai.

Female Halfling Oracle 2
defenses:
HP 15/15 AC: 18, touch 13, flat 16; saves fort 2,reflex 3, will 5 +2 to fear

Mary will relay this information to Shianne so she has an idea of the conditions of the fortifications the impromtu campsite provides.

In the morning Mary will approach the mighty Masaru and ask him to look at the stuck door. Hopefully he can get the door open and we can explore the shelter.

Female Human Ninja 2

DM / Mary:

Raising for her watch, Shianne listens intently while Mary briefs her on the conditions of the camp. Gathering her things, she slips her pack and bow over her shoulders. "I'll keep watch in one of the watchtowers then since it affords a good view as you say," she says quietly before turning to stand her watch.

Once she is in the watchtower, she sets her pack down and strings her bow. Her eyes and ears tune into the night's sounds and quickly identifies those that are normal so she can concentrate on any changes.

After everyone has eaten I start to wash up, when Mary and Shianne came and offered their assistance. I blush when everyone thanks me for the nice food and set to cleaning my new knives, carefully polishing them. I look up to Mary, "That one wasn't the family secret recipe. So I can show you how to prepare it, if you really want. All you need is to find the right foods and have the right tools."

Once everything is cleaned and put away, I climb into my tent (Which is about 10-15 feet from the small fire) and close the door behind me. I loosen my furs so they fall from my body and place my knives within arms reach. I pull my thin blanket over myself and quickly fall into a silent sleep.

Male Human Samurai (Sword Saint) 1

Waiting on the GM's response to my Perception check.

Sorry been a crazy weekend...

The night passes uneventfully until Masaru's watch. Unfortunately the samurai is a little to distracted by trying to get the sleep out of his eyes that he doesn't notice the goblin zombies as they animate.

One of them sneaks up on Masaru and tries to slam into him from behind. The strong slam connects startling the drowsy samurai who takes 3 points of damage from the slam attack.

Slam attack:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 201d4 ⇒ 3

Masaru I need your response.

Male Human Samurai (Sword Saint) 1

Masaru was suddenly jolted by the slam and wheeled around to face the zombie. He drew his sword from his sheath and two-handed the grip, lifting the sharp blade above his head. He let out a loud kiah shout that would startle the camp, stepping into the blow as he struck down at his assailant.

Power Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage 1d8 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 3 = 11

Initiative 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
