"Oh, thank-you Masaru it is the perfect size for me too. Well then, should we get going?" With that I ask Masaru to help fasten the cloak around my neck, once it is on I give it a twirl, to see how it feels.

DM Mathpro |
Tani headed back to sandpoint empty handed.
Before you guys head off to the goblin camp Walthus gives you a map of the swamp that he made himself.
"The old trail that leads to there camp is clear on the other end of the swamp so I would suggest taking the trail leading from my house back east and then continuing east. You'll be traveling through the thick of the swamps so traveling will be slow but eventually you'll reach a bridge that I've built. Cross it and go south and that will take you right to where the goblins are camping."
He draws out the path he suggests you take as well as where the main "roads" will take you. The roads will be drier and will make for more easy travel but his path is much more direct.
Go ahead and decide which way you want to go. The blue path is the one wathus suggests but it goes through the thickest part of the swamps. The black path is the way to get to the Old Fish Trail which leads right to the goblin camp but as you can see is not exactly direct.

Mary Roseblossom |

As long as you think you will be okay and not have any relapses, I think it would be fair to press on and inspect these goblins that you have mentioned. As far as which path is the best to take, I have no real knowledge of the swamp or following such paths. If one of you are able to follow the map then the direct path should be by far quicker. If not then the safer route would be to take the long way around.
Perhaps Walthus, if you are feeling good enough, you could escort us to the bridge so we don't get lost?
Mary can not even use the cloak. So passing.

Kerri Corynian |

"I don't want to waste time taking the safe route, the longer we take the more likely the townsfolk are to being hurt again and I don't want them hurt, especially Ameiko. I say we go the most direct route, but I can't read this "map" so I can't take lead."

Mary Roseblossom |

Well it may not be too hard I guess. Go between these 2 arms of the river till we hit the bridge, take the bridge and continue following the other arm of the river till we get to the goblins. Although I still hope that you Walthus will be able to guide us part ways.

Masaru Haganekaze |

"I urge the use of caution, Kerri," Masaru suggested as they looked at the map together. "Though they say action makes more fortune than caution. We're limited to three bodies currently, we can't risk straining ourselves if we walk into an ambush and are ill prepared. We need to consider maneuverability. I have confidence in the militia securing Sandpoint while we are away."
"I'll take point," Masaru said, standing.

Mary Roseblossom |

Ok then big guy. Where you lead I will follow. I should be able to keep up with your long legs. So don't wait for me. Is it ok if I whistle while we walk. It makes the time go faster and the journey more pleasant. I don't know how good I am , but I like my own melodies. If it causes your ears to hurt let me know and I will whistle softer or start humming.

Mary starts whistling a traveling melody that actually sounds ok. Not bad but there is definitley room for improvement.

DM Mathpro |
You guys make your way along the path with Walthus guiding you through the swamps. He falls in after Masaru and pretty much talks your ear off most of the time. You can tell its been years since he's had anyone able to understand him to talk to and he's taking full advantage of it. As you guys make it to where the path heads back north he starts to head off to the east deeper into the swamps. If Masaru stops to protest Walthus will do his best to comfort the man.
You guys travel for about 2 hours, the sun raising high and the heat starting to get a little uncomfortable inside the swamps. It seems really warm for Varisia. Eventually you make your way to a wooden bridge and Wathus stands proudly before it, a slight smile on his face.
"Not the best craftsmanship but it will get you across safely. Once across head south. Unfortunately this is as far as my old tired feet will let me travel with you."
You all cross the bridge safely and head south. It takes a couple more hours until you reach your final destination. Thankfully the vegetation is thick in this part of the swamp so it provides protection from the sun but not from the raising humidity.
A filthy village-fort surrounded by a crude wooden palisade sits atop a low hummock of solid ground here. A wooden gate in the north wall of the palisade lies in shambles on the ground. Nearby, a large, algae-filled pool on the northeastern side breaks the palisade and allows a clearer view into the village's interior. Bodies of bone and green flesh lay strewn about the ground, pools of blood around the green bodies. They look to be freshly killed as the flesh has barely started to rot.
You hear a loud banging noise from inside one of the huts.

Kerri Corynian |

During the journey I am sweating terribly, often wiping my brow, "This is too hot, are you all used to this?" I start to mutter some words and point at Masaru. All of a sudden the air around me starts to cool down, just enough that I am not sweating as much, but it is still hot. Every few minutes I repeat the process, just for a little extra help against the heat.
When we arrive at the bridge I wave good-bye to Walthus, glad for him to be turning back. "Not sure how much more of that talking I could take with this heat!" Upon reaching the fort I whisper to Masaru, "Should we check out what the banging is? Whatever is in there doesn't seem to like whatever is inside. There don't appear to be any guards alive." For some reason Masaru was able to hear me perfectly clearly, as if I was speaking normally. I start to head forwards, only stopping if Masaru or Mary say we shouldn't go.
Repeatedly cast Message, just to cool down. No real mechanics for it yet, later on will make more of a difference, but the power is just starting to manifest.

Mary Roseblossom |

Mary is glad to have Walthus along. She will talk amiably in halflng about the people in Sandpoint and her studies. Like Walthus, she does not have much reason to converse in her normal tongue. She gives as much to the conversation as she takes. Clearly this could go on all day if there was enough time and no one put a stop to it.
At the bridge, good-byes are said but Mary promises to return someday to speak again with the likeable Walthus. Perhaps after this business with the goblins is finished. Maybe even invite Walthus along if she dtarts her traveling business. A man familiar with the area and previous travel experience would be a valuable asset. Plus she would have someone to talk to in between stops.
Cutting through the marsh is more taxing that Mary realized. She almost missed Kerri's inquiry, and all she really managed was a heavy sigh. It was with great relief that they noticed the pallisade and a break in the tall plants. Still struggling through the edge of the vegetation, it takes Mary a minute to realize that the green lumps around the fort are the bodies of goblins.
What would have caused all this damage to the goblins? Did someone from town get here and remove the threat before you, I mean us? Or couild it be another one of those thing from Walthus's house. One was bad enough, but it looks like there would have been a couple of them to cause this much damage.
MAry will let Kerri approach the fort, but first indicate that Mary will go look from the northeast view. Hopefully the 2 can see further signs of what was going on and what is causing the noise. If you want to go with Kerri Masaru that is fine, otherwise I am going to take just a closer look and come back and let you know what I found.

Mary will freeze once the banging stops wondering if she was spotted and an alarm will sound. Once nothing seems to happen, Mary will continue approaching cautiously. If she sees Masaru and Kerri start to enter the compound, Mary will enter in as well from her direction though.

Masaru Haganekaze |

After the long trek through the swamp with Wathus he finally stops and directs us to continue. Masaru largely says nothing during the journey, his eyes open to his surroundings as thye make their way. Once they reach the outskirts of the village-fort he takes a knee to observe the location with a hand resting on his sword. The sounds and then the lack thereof alarm the halflings in his company and he raises a hand. "Lets be mindful," he warned with a low whisper. He glances to Kerri and then raises a hand to his chin, stroking it gently. He was beginning to get stubble on his face from a day away from his razor.
"Lets love," he whispered, slowly moving forward as he tried to be as quiet as possible. Armor didn't lend to soft steps.

Hearing what sounds like someone or something well-armored roaming around nearby, Shianne stops what she is doing and bites her tongue to keep quiet. "This just keeps getting better," she thinks as her eyes play once again around the room.
Pulling herself back to her feet, she takes another grip on her chains. Damp hair hangs back in her face having come loose once again in her fall. "Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Worse that can happen is whatever is clanking around outside comes in and skewers me. Better that than goblin stew I say,"she says outloud before she slams the chain as solidly as she can against the side of the hut. "Hey ugly! Over here!" Her loud voice echoes a bit in the empty hut.
As the chain thumps against wood, she lets out a soft giggle as the lack of sleep starts playing on her.

DM Mathpro |
Masaru, Kerri, and Mary you hear a loud voice call out "Hey ugly! Over here!" and another loud bang. As you walk towards the hut you see several bodies on the ground. Some of them were goblins and others were various types of undead but mostly skeletons.
You make your way through the small battlefield and into the hut. Along one wall you see a female human chained to the wall. She is not wearing any clothing and looks to have been beaten up fairly bad. Much of her body is covered in bruises and dried blood hangs from the side of her nose and mouth.

Shianne Ryu |

Hearing the others enter the hut, she lifts her head and peers at them through the hair hanging over her eyes. "Um.. hi. You're not greenskins, which is good.. I think.." Her speech is a bit slow from lack of sleep.
"Oh, great Shi" she thinks to herself, "only you would insult a samurai. He'll probably want your head as a trophy for it. Still, better than ending up a goblin stew." She lets out a soft laugh at her inward joke.

Pausing for a moment, she says softly, "Sorry, I'm rambling. Tend to do that when I'm this exhausted. Haven't slept in.. *yawn* long time. Thank you for helping me. I'd have dressed for the occasion, but.." Her voice trails off with another sleep-giddy giggle. "I'm Shianne."
Her eyes sweep across the room taking in the others and tries to blow the hair out of her face so she can see a bit better.

Mary Roseblossom |

Mary, Mary Roseblossom. Now be quiet until we can get you out of here. These bonds are too strong for me, but maybe he can help free you. If not from the chains than from the wall at least.

Masaru Haganekaze |

Masaru was a mixed blooded man with Varisian and Tian heritage. As the three of them progressed to the hut he walked with a loud step, his armor betraying his presence. As he stepped inside and soon realize there was no immediate threat, he was quick to avert his eyes. Mary began to speak with the woman in chains and when he heard that she couldn't break them, Masaru approached the woman.
"Forgive me," he said, drawing his sword. Perhaps the first thing that she may have thought was his intention to cut her down but the sharp blade was held tightly in both hands and he dropped it down against the chains to free Shianne.
Looking at the book, the Break DC of chains is 26 which is impossible for Masaru currently. Would we be able to take 20 with Aid Another to do it? My attack roll is only +4.

Kerri Corynian |

I follow Mary and Masaru into the room and upon seeing this woman chained to the wall I stare in surprise. After a couple of moments I gather myself together and walk over with Masaru, "I'm Kerri ... where are your clothes?" I sound very unsure and slightly uncomfortable.

Shianne Ryu |

Wait you said undead. What are they doing here?
Feeling a bit better after Mary's magic washes over her. She looks at her and starts rambling again in her tired voice, "I spotted greenies carrying some large cases of stuff into their ville. Odd I thought, and worth a check come dark. So I wait around.. night falls like it always does.. and off I go. Quiet as a mouse. Grandmaster would have been proud of me." She gives a week smile and continues her story..
"I see the greenies fussing over these boxes and try to get closer but can't due to all the little things running around. So I hide underneath one of their burnt out huts. Thing smells like a rat nest, but hey, I won't be here long right?
Well.. that's what I thought until there was this great commotion. I chance a look and see some boney things attacking the greenies! Just my luck. Undead.. Oh how I hate the smell of those things.. but I have a chance to peek at those boxes.. At least I thought I did.. when this blasted pig starts squeeling!
Only thing I could do is quietly open his pen and let the thing run around.. maybe it could draw the greenies away. Ooops. No such luck! Greenies come running to the pen! I turn to get away before they can see me and run right into a boney.
It was a good fight while it lasted. Took a couple with me before several of them beat me into submission and took my gear. Left me chained up in this place. Don't know what they were saying, but I think they're a bit upset over their pig. She giggles a little at the thought of the pig but continues.
The other night though.. strangest thing. Bonies attacked again.. only this time.. they carried off those boxes. Never did get to see what was in them.. "
Her eyes widen suddenly as the samurai draws his sword. "Um.. I really didn't mean the ugly part..honest.

Time to do a little rule bending.
Masaru it takes you several good whacks with your katana but you're eventually able to weaken the chain enough that Shianne can break the chains by pulling. Unfortunately you've chipped your katana(-1 on attack rolls and damage until repaired).
The combination of Shianne's talking and your beating on the chains has attracted some attention though and Kerri is able to spot a large goblin wearing a strange crown like hat coming towards you guys. She isn't 100% positive but she's pretty sure its gutwad himself. Thankfully he looks to be alone.

Kerri Corynian |

As soon as I see him, I start to whisper some familiar incantations, ""zezhuanth iri letoclo ve gahri nomeno tafiaf. xurwk coi zyak si shilta ti qe ocuirtor." With this I start to shrink, until I am only half of my original height.
I look back to the others, "We have company, I think its Gutwad and he's alone."

Shianne Ryu |

Kerri's announcement cuts through her sleep deprived mind with a surge of clarity. Softly she says to the others as she blushes a bit, "I'll stay here as I'm not.. well.. um.. equipped to fight and appear to be still tethered to this wall."
Carefully trying to arrange the chains as if they are still intact, she gauges their length in case she needs to use them and kneels in the dirt, letting her hair fall to cover her face and to hide her quickly fading bruises.
