I shrug. "There is no need to fear. I am here on official business from the city watch and unfortunately I cannot wait a few days. Worry not, a little mess is nothing to be embarrassed about. Now, do you mind if I come in and we can discuss matters of your unique skills?
Masaru Haganekaze |
He nodded to Kerri. "Very well then," he said. Masaru moved to help the man up and out so he can be moved to be properly treated. He gestured for Kerri to help him out a bit, glancing to his other companions as well to help. Once he's laid out, he attempts basic first aide.

I look to Masaru, "Could you help us take this man out of this pen please Masaru? He isn't awake and needs more treatment, but I don't feel comfortable doing that with the snake looking at us like that." I shudder when I think of the snake having a "small" lunch.
Masaru Haganekaze |
Masaru offers Kerri a nod and proceeds to lift the man out of the pen. He moves him to another location, perhaps more comfortable, and lays him down so Kerri and Godfrey can continue monitoring him. He then stands back up, draws his sword, and approaches the giant snake. "Give me the word and I'll cut it down," he said.
Kerri Corynian |
I follow Masaru as he is carrying the man out of the pen, then follows him back into the pen. Glancing back over my shoulder I call to Godfrey, "Your call, will this snake be a bother to you while you do your work?" I then focus on the snake again.
I call out, "Tani, Caerwyn we have found the man we came to see! He's hurt pretty badly, been cut up quite a lot!"
Kerri Corynian |
I look to Masaru while waiting for Godfrey to tell us what to do, "So Masaru, how long have you lived in Sandpoint? I have been on the outskirts of town for a few years, but haven't seen you around much other than in the Dragon every now and then. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't see me, I am used to sitting in the unseen corners. Most big folk scare me, but your different, your nice, strong and kind."

You are able to safely move the man with out causing him further injuries. While you're moving him you are able to notice a couple of snake bites on his arms and you're pretty certain that you've found the source of his unconsciousness. If you were able to find the snake that bit him you are pretty sure that you could fashion an anti-body.
Masaru Haganekaze |
"I've lived in Sandpoint for some time. My father was a Tian swordsman on a warrior's pilgrimage who traveled out west and eventually met and fell in love with my mother," he explained, nodding his head. "They settled in Sandpoint together and I was born though he passed away before I knew him. During his pilgrimage, he had made many enemies and was cut down out of spite and revenge."
He set his jaw a bit but managed a small smile for the halfling. "That's a nice thing to say," he said softly. He glanced to Godfrey when she had asked him about the snakes. He still held the sword as he remained nearby to assist them as was needed. His knuckles popped as they tightened around the handle of the curved blade.

I pound on the door. "Hey mister grumpy pants. You got a point! We ain't in town so no reason I shouldn't break the door down and beats some answers out pf you. I heard my friends out back just found you so whats going on?" I wait for response.
Kerri Corynian |
I look to Masaru, "its hard to think we have been there for a while and not really spoken before. Well at least we are both speaking now." I return the big man's smile with one of my own.
"Godfrey, what's taking so long?" I look back to Masaru, "He is awfully quiet, The Ancestors are wanting me to kill the snake. I might do it, we can see if the bite marks are the same afterwards and I would like to try roasted snake. Plus it pleases The Ancestors, which means I am still in their favour."
With that I start to whisper some words in a foreign tongue again, "zezhuanth iri, origato sia wioti vucot wer vers di gul!"" and performing some complex hand gestures. Then all of a sudden my eyes, skin and finger nails start turn to an icy blue colour, in the palm of my hand a small perfectly spherical ball of solid ice forms. Once the ball is about an inch in diameter I throw it at the snake. Also Masaru you will notice that while I am doing this, there seems to be a cold air around me, but once I have thrown the ball of ice the cold air dissipates and my eyes, skin and finger nails all revert back to their original colour.

I look to Masaru, "Let's kill this snake quickly and painlessly, hopefully with that we may be able to heal the poor man over there?"
Masaru Haganekaze |
Masaru gives Kerri a nod. "Very well then," he says, tightening his grip on his sword. He looks at the other large snake and moves in on it. Slow, methodical steps carry him forward and then with a burst of speed he strikes. His sword cuts the air as he drops the blade down on the snake.

Masaru you easily cut down the snake.
I will need a survival check to harvest the venom if you want and then a heal check or craft alchemy check to make some anti venom for the man you're tending to.
At this point I think I'd like to recruit a replacement so I'll throw something up and see who bites

Sorry for the distinct lack of posting. Been feeling un inspired due to allergies. I seem to be getting better.
I seem annoyed by the senseless halfling when I hear noises from outback. I head to see whats up. Seeing. Kerri and Masaru with the halfling I appear perplexed. "Wait. If he's out here, whose that in the house?"
Kerri Corynian |
I look to Tani, "Someone's inside? Its probably the person who did this, I can't see this man walking into a snake pen, laying down at the back and waiting to get bitten." I look up to Masaru, "Would you like to check this person out with Tani, while I work on this antidote? Or I could come too and work on this once we work out what is going on?"
Masaru Haganekaze |
Masaru rose and looked to Tani when she came out to greet them, cleaning off his sword. He looked between Kerri and Tani and approached Tani. "Lets have a talk with this individual," he said, not bothering to sheath his sword. His grip tightened around the woven handle and he approached the house, ready to use his sword again. He entered the doorway.
"Come out," he said. "Are you the person who claims to live here...?"

From down the path that the party was traveling not 10 minutes before comes a whistle floating over the air. Not the most beautiful arrangement of notes compiled but the song is indeed uplifting and airy. The nature of the melody suggests someone going for a leisurely stroll. Certainly this is no menace that is approaching from around the bend in the path.
Shortly there after, there appears to be a human girl leading a pony laden with packs from around the bend. Being more perceptive, you would see that it is instead a female halfling, just shy of 3 feet with bright red hair. You would almost expect her to start skipping along the way she is whistling and carrying on.
Those familiar with handling animals can tell that the pony knows where it is going and Mary is not even leading the animal. The packs appear to be holding miscellaneous supplise and food. perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 Even from this distance Mary notices the small form of Walthus lying on the ground surrounded by people.
Her whistling stops mid stream as she lifts her crossbow and aims it firmly at the largest of those surround Proudstump. Back away. Who are you and what have you done to Mr. Proudstump? However, as Mary gets a better look of the people around Walthus, she recognizes Tani from the Rusty Dragon. Approaching quickly for a halfling, her tone changes from accusing to one of dismay and confusion. Its Tani isn't it? And your a member of the city guard. I recognize you even if I can't remember your name. What are you doing here? I didn't know you knew Mr. Proudstump. What happened to him?
Tanimoto |
I look at the newcomer with surprise then down at the halfing on the ground. "It is the most bizarre thing. We found him like this but there is another him, likely an imposter, inside. Also, I'm not with the town guard, just a lowly serving girl at the Rusty Dragon. At any rate we are fixing to go inside and confront the imposter. You have any skills you can lend us?"
Mary Roseblossom |
No not you him.pointing to Masaru. Well I never met anyone else here but Mr. Proudstump. I suppose that he could have a brother or some other family that would visit. But if it was family I am sure they would be out here tending to him. Here let me see him and find out what is wrong. Mary approaches to inspect the body.

As she tends to Walthus Proudstump,Besides being a fair healer from my talks with Madam Koya, I have some ability that Abadar grants me to aid those around me. Its actually because of my belief in Abadar that brings me out here. You see my father was a merchant in town and got to know Master Proudstump through his business dealings. Master Proudstump would find herbs in the marsh and trade them for supplies that he could not easily obtain out here. Why I helped bring these supplies when I was a little girl. Well I am still little compared to you two. After I left to learn the ways of Abadar, I returned home to discover that Mr. Proudstump still lived out here. As my duty to Abadar and because of my childhood fondness of these trips I volunteered to resume these duties. You caught me by surprise. I was just delivering his 2 weeks supplies. I hope I didn't startle you the way I acted. Its just that you don't meet too many people out here in the marsh and I have never met anyone else at Master Proudstump home before.
Its quite obvious that Mary is long winded and while pleasant can be overly talkative. Well, without any better supplies I guess that is the best we can hope for. Hopefully he revives soon and can talk to him before we go in to talk to whoever is in there.
Kerri Corynian |
I look up as the stranger approaches, "Ah another Hin, hello. I'm Kerri, what is your name? We think that Mr ... Proudstump has been poisoned and I am currently in the process of making an antidote for him."
By this point my Reduce Person would have worn off, so I would be back to my usual size.
Mary Roseblossom |
Oh I'm sorry, my name is Mary. Mary Roseblossom. Glad to meet you miss...?I don't think we have met before. I am happy to hear you trying to help Mr. Proudstump. I am sure he will ever be so thankful.
Kerri Corynian |
I look slightly confused for a second, "...Kerri. I think I have seen you in the Rusty Dragon a few times, but never spoken to you. So you have a lot of herbs? Hmm, any that would taste good with Rabbit or another meat?" I look back to Masaru, "Should we question the person inside, or stay out here and finish mixing this antidote?"
DM Mathpro |
Masaru you're calls go ignored but you can hear movement on the other side of the door.
Mary your heal check confirms what Kerri told you, that the man has been posioned. From the looks of his body there are several snake bites. From your dealings with him in the past you would know he's a snake wrangler and would find it very odd that his snakes would attack him. That combined with the talk of another person in the house makes you very suspicious about whats going on.
After another moment a window opens and a man that looks just like proudstump pokes his head out the window and shouts. "GET OFF MY PROPERTY! I told that harlot at the door that I don't want anything to do with you now scat!" I'll need perception checks from everyone as well as sense motive checks.
Unfortunately we'll have to pause it here until Sunday...I'll be a little tied up this weekend
Mary Roseblossom |
Kerri: That's a nice name. Is it short for anything? Never mind, we can talk about that later. As far as the antidote, I would be very surprised if it was a snake bite that got to Mr Proudstump. You see, those are his snakes. He raises them and uses them to protect against creatures from the marsh. I would have sworn they were like family to him. Seeing the dead snakes laying around, Don't be alarmed, I am sure that he will understand why you killed his snakes. You thought he was bit and was trying to help. I am sure that is what anyone would do given the situation.

As far as who that gentleman thinks he is, but if this is Mr. Proudstump than who is he. The resemblance is uncanny. Whoever it is thinks that he owns the place. Unless this unconscious person is not Mr. Proudstump. Take 20 to search the body for signs of disguise. It would make more sense if this was the imposter and thus got attacked by the snakes.

Oops, screwed up the typing on the sense motive. Here it is. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Well, he has never treated me like that. Mr. Proudstump has lived out here quite some time. I knw he doesn't like lots of people around but never to this extreme. Maybe he didn't see me and that why he is acting so weird. It is out of character though.
Kerri Corynian |
I look to Masaru, "The Ancestors have an idea and I wonder if you could help me complete their plan? Could you try to open door, even just a little bit, please?"
If Masaru does manage to open it at all, I will cast Detect Magic to see if there is any magical aura coming from within the building. I put my hand out in front of me, hold it there, while I concentrate.

If Mary's examination of the body holds that this is indeed Mr. Proudstump then she will activate her ability to give him her protection domain bonus on saving throws.
If there is time before MasarU opens the door, Hold one minute please sir. I know you eager to enter but take this precaution first. With that Mary holds her holy symbol and prays to Abadar. A measure of your protection upon this one. Cast shield of faith +2 deflection bonus on Masaru.

Right now Masaru is standing in the doorway and because of the broken door and his large frame getting past him will take 10 feet of movement. Unfortunately I don't have time to get a battle map up.
