Aivar - the bear has AC 16 so I don't think your crit is confirmed.

Aivar Kurisyl |

I always roll the crit confirm *and* damage when I see there's a 20, even if it means that when the confirm roll misses, I get to sob over what could and should've been :'(
Like now.
:'(

Wandering GM Wastrel |

No problem.
Just waiting for Sasha and Tristan.

Narièl Laeric |

In hindsight, with a 5' step back behind Raquel and your reach feature on the Glaive, you'd have been considered flanking with Sasha and made the hit. Oh well, your 11 damage surely is leaps and bounds ahead of my measly 1 point of damage XD

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Yeah, but if you're relying on your wizard for DPR (unless they're an Evocation specialist) then something's gone badly wrong...!

Aivar Kurisyl |

I did add the flanking bonus since Sasha counts as a flanking buddy for both Aivar and Racquel, but ...
... oh wait x'D I forgot I'm level 2 and my base bonus to hit isn't +6, but +7, just like it says on Aivar's character page, so the crit confirm would hit AC 16. I was about to go on a tangent about me not caring about squeezing every possible +1 out of every situation, but this is just me derping hard at math.
So yeah, thank you for inadvertently causing me to take another look at the numbers, and help me realize that I'm more and more starting to resemble Aivar's int 8 IRL.

Raquel Cailean |

At least you're pretty! ;)

But why male models?

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Ok, I'll give you this one, but in future I would really prefer it if we don't go back and say 'oh wait, I missed the bonus for haste/inspire courage/bless/whatever so actually I hit it.'
Trying to keep PbP flowing especially during combat is hard enough without adding in retcons.
From hereon in, what you rolled will be what you rolled.
I hope that's ok with people.

Aivar Kurisyl |

I really don't mind that going either way. I tend to stick to what's been rolled at my tables - for better or worse - as it is up to the player to keep track of their side of things.
At least now I know I'm supposed to add a +7 and not a +6. I really should look into getting some sort of online notepad file for all my character's common rolls and modifiers

Narièl Laeric |

That's what I had thought... something wasn't adding up, seemed low.

Intelligence can be a tough one to role-play properly sometimes; you have to resist your natural intelligence to properly role a lower intelligence score, or in my case the opposite... I can only wish to be as intelligent as my character is XD

Raquel Cailean |

Should Aivar have gotten an extra attack when Sasha missed with her last attack and used assault leader?

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Urgh. Missed that.
In future if anyone uses an ability like that, they should make a separate post in the Discussion Thread: "I missed so Aivar gets ANOTHER ATTACK THIS ROUND"
It would make it easier for dimwits like me to spot.
I'm not going to retcon it as nothing ultimately hangs on it this time. Unless everyone misses the bear this round of course :)

Raquel Cailean |

Perhaps Aivar can roll an extra attack this round if he misses the first one. Unless somebody hits it and deals more than 2 damage first. :)

Aivar Kurisyl |

I'll do that. It's honestly just one of the biggest weaknesses of pbp: triggered and reactionary actions. I'll try and pay closer attention as well since Aivar could've simply rolled an extra attack *just in case* her attack didn't hit.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Yeah, that's a good way of doing it.
Same with Haste, when it comes online: roll the hasted attack, and if Nariel doesn't cast it that round then I'll just ignore it.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

I usually put conditional actions in spoilers. Seems to work pretty well.
That's a really good idea, let's do it that way.
BTW, those of you who are experienced PbP GMs: don't be shy in telling me about the way you do things. I'm more or less making it up as I go along here :)
Anyway, now that the curse is lifted the Temple of the Elk counts as a landmark: holding that hex will add +1 to Loyalty.

Who says I'm going to take Haste... oh no wait, I'm totally going to take Haste at level 5

Arianna Wending |

The first time we end up in an actual dungeon and we have to fight more than one encounter in a day is gonna be rough, guys.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Well, only assuming that I can roll higher than an 8 or so to hit, so you'll be fine!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Finally! Will the mites succeed where legions of bandits, spiders, bears and wolverines have thus far failed, and provide our heroes with a real challenge?!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Heh. It's a fine line between cake-walk, challenging and TPK; I'm hoping I've got it right.
No manticores this time, which should help things ^_^

I sure hope we can manage to overcome this mitey challenge.

Tristan Aislin |

Next time we're at the Post Tristan is going to inquire after some cold iron weaponry. Damn fey.

Arianna Wending |

I'd still much rather take 19 points of damage than crawl into a tiny tunnel and probably die.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

If it's any consolation, the tunnel widens out considerably on the inside. (No guarantees on the dying, though.)

Sasha Yezhov |

Hey, guys. Sorry about the lack of posts for the last few days. I'm covering for somebody tonight and then I'll be out of town until Sunday evening.
I will try my best to get a post up tonight. If I don't, please bot me.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Hi Sasha - thanks for the update, hope all well with you.

Sasha Yezhov |

Everything is okay here, yeah. Just haven't had the time to post this week, which is a shame, because I just felt like I was getting on a schedule.
After this weekend, things should clear up for me quite a bit. :)

It's ok, you didn't miss much, just a near-death experience via enraged/cursed bear :)
Arianna is attempting to outdo that by getting critted by a mite, which some mite consider to be a mite embarrassing...
(So. It has come to this.)

Wandering GM Wastrel |

There's no need to get high and mitey about it...

Narièl Laeric |

All these puns... I think I mite be sick.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Traveling again - I'll get a post up on Tuesday - sorry for the disruption

Aivar Kurisyl |

Safe journeys!

Aivar Kurisyl |

Woo! \._.\

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Managed not to forget the contingent action (AoO) this round :)
Also - sorry about the slowdown, everyone. I'm still here!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

To clarify - yes, the centipedes are in melee range. Sorry if that wasn't clear :)

Wandering GM Wastrel |

I'll be honest: I don't actually think you can charge, jump, and bull rush all in one turn - but rule of cool (and the need to keep the game moving) beats rule-as-written.

Raquel Cailean |

So by rule of cool, I can summon Cayden Cailean to smite our enemies? Or at least share a drink? ;)

Narièl Laeric |

Just a heads up, I'll be out of town for the next day or two... not sure if I'll have WIFI access so I may not be able to post again until Sunday. Truthfully, Nariel has played her best cards with Grease and Color Spray, so not much more she can do at this point but peg things with arrows.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

I'm experimenting with the scaling magic items rules from Unchained, combined with the heighten rules from the Playtest. I'm hoping it will make magic items feel a bit more magical.
I've always loved the Tolkienesque idea that magic items grant power according to the measure of their wielder (the One Ring in Gandalf's or Galadriel's hands would have done rather more than Bilbo ever managed to get it to do). Let me know what you think.
Also, if you have a 'wish list' of (level-appropriate!) particular items you'd like to have, let me know and I will see what I can do.
