Tristan would generally be in favor of a plan that doesn't involve an execution, even if we're just going to be turning him over to Garess to be executed.

Arianna Wending |

Level of Brawler, skill points in: Disable Device, Know (Arcana, Nature), Perception, Ride, Spell craft, and Survival. Background ranks in Knowledge (Engineering) and Linguistics, picking Sylvan.
Her unarmed strike damage dice improves, she has Combat Expertise, and she can Martial Flex 4/day. And I can actually use the buckler I have cause Brawlers get proficiency.
Re: the captive. Is desertion punishable by death in Brevoy?

Wandering GM Wastrel |

A deserter who turns to banditry and is caught shouldn't start reading any long novels.

Same here, only at some point Aivar knows he'll have to take on that responsibility, whether he wants to or not. I figure that burden of responsibility clashes nicely with his LG paladin of Shelyn-ness.

I know what you mean, but at the same time, it will take us at least a couple of days and it ends the same way. I just feel like taking him to the trading post is just passing the buck.
Im trying to play Arianna as resolved to do what she needs to for her family's sake. She's trying to be practical.

Tristan Aislin |

As a rationalization, Tristan would say a military officer's authority to pass judgement over a deserter supersedes our authority to execute bandits.
But at the core, he just isn't ready to face up to having the power of life and death over people.

Narièl Laeric |

I'm fine with heading back if that is the concensus, could probably use a day to write a new scroll or two if we have time.
On other news, anyone mind if Nariel takes the Longbow? Packs a little more punch and range than her current shortbow.

Arianna Wending |

Do you really need the offtime to scribe scrolls? I just mean, you can work for four hours over the course of an adventuring day to net 2 hours worth of work on a magic item, and scrolls that cost less than 250gp only take 2 hours to scribe.

Aivar Kurisyl |

Go for it, Nariel. If you can use it, great!
And it's a shame we couldn't track the rest of them down. I'm somewhat hesitant about leaving the area, knowing they'll use every day they get to plan and set up a proper trap. Must be my D&D paranoia kicking in :'D

Wandering GM Wastrel |

You routed them and sacked their base - it will be a while before they regroup.
This hex is one of the few places where the Thorn river can be crossed, incidentally. I'll update the map to show the location of the ford.
As a strategic location, holding this hex will add +1 Stability to your realm, when we get that far.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Forgot to add that the gold you found is a resource: holding that hex will add +1 Economy to your realm, as well as doubling the bonus for building a mine there.

Aivar Kurisyl |

A-ha. Guess we know what to do ASAP once we get to that point of the game ;3
Leveling overview:
+13 HP
+1 BAB
+1 FORT & WILL
+DIVINE GRACE
+LAY ON HANDS
+5 SKILLS (Diplomacy, Sense Motive, Ride, Knowledge Nobility, Craft Paintings)
Will update Aivar's character page now.

Tristan Aislin |

Wastrel, did you want the little level-up reports? I don't usually bother with them unless the GM likes to see them.

Sasha Yezhov |

I'm contemplating taking Black Market Connections as a rogue talent, but I don't know how that will work for the scope of the campaign.

Raquel Cailean |

Sasha, you scoundrel! I am shocked and appalled!
Can you smuggle me in some Osirian mummy dust? I hear it's a good aphrodesiac...

Wandering GM Wastrel |

@Tristan - I'm good either way.
@Sasha - the gp limit in the settlement(s) you build is defined by the buildings you construct there (e.g a shop increases the gp limit by 500 gp), rather than by settlement size. This actually works mostly in your favour, because it will take years of game time to get any settlement to large town/metropolis size. On the downside, it's not clear how it would interact with that rogue talent.
I'm happy to put some house rules together - let me know what you think.

Sasha Yezhov |

I'm interested in pursuing the home rules option, if you want to put something together. The talent seems very appropriate for Sasha, considering her background.

Aivar Kurisyl |

@Tristan: I tend to have a word document in which I register all the level up data for that character. Hence the post with a detailed overview, haha *hides*
... and oh my, we got a scoundrel in our midst with black market connections?! gasps

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Ok, let's say that you can treat the base value as twice what it actually is.
We'll see how that goes and if it seems too over/under-powered we'll revisit.
Let me know what you think.

Sasha Yezhov |

That works for me, although I'm going to hold off on taking it until an area we can actually buy magic items is established. :)
+1 BAB
+1 Reflex save
+Certainty (diplomacy)
+Assault Leader
+1 rank to all listed skills except Climb

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Since we're occasionally posting historical equivalents (or near-equivalents), anyone who's interested can read up on the First Afghan War.
Or pretty much any British military blunder of the 18th and 19th Century, really.

Narièl Laeric |

Or pretty much any British military blunder of the 18th and 19th Century, really.
Lots to choose from there; the theme is clear - a lethal combination of arrogance, incompetence and overconfidence leading to a spectacular failure.

Tristan Aislin |

I've been keeping up the Loot Table in the admin document from time to time, but I might have missed something. Next time we're at the trade post we might want to do the selling and splitting. We also still have the stag amulets to turn in for the bounty right? That didn't happen yet?

Wandering GM Wastrel |

I think the amulets got sent off for the bounty.
Just waiting to see if anyone else is going to chime in before I move things on. I'm away this week with work, but should still be able to post from my phone. There just won't be any map updates until I'm back at a computer.

Aivar Kurisyl |

u_u

Wandering GM Wastrel |

F+&@, it's Saturday already?! I do apologise. Post incoming.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

The hot springs count as a landmark: holding that hex will add +1 Loyalty to your realm, when we get that far.

Narièl Laeric |

After re-reading my last post... I think I might have been channeling Starfire a little there. I damn near wrote "Oh Tyg, this place is the wonderful." XD

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Raquel mutters something about cockblocking faeries
Clearly not a phrase that whoever programs the censorbot ever thought they'd encounter ;)

Wandering GM Wastrel |

So, you're at the Western edge of Row D and you've got a few hints about what lies to the South - what now? Back to Oleg's, or exploring the bits of Row D you haven't done yet?

Raquel Cailean |

My vote is to keep exploring. If we do, I'd suggest going down to row E, head east all the way then go up and finish row D.

Tristan Aislin |

I'm fine with Raquel's plan, though Tristan the character would probably argue for exploring Row E, dropping by the post at the midpoint, then repeating the loop on the other side rather than doing it all at once.

Aivar Kurisyl |

Tristan's plan works for me. It might be wise to occasionally drop by the post to keep up to date with what's going on. Will post in the in-game thread tomorrow.

Narièl Laeric |

I'm game with that plan; I too think it a good idea to swing by the post on occasion, if nothing else to be sure that our base of operations is secure.

Sasha Yezhov |

We should probably return to Oleg's soon, if only to try and have Captain Garress's soldiers grab the supplies we left behind at the bandits' camp.

Aivar Kurisyl |

It might also be worth it to put all our earnings together and see if we can get some upgrades for people. Masterwork weaponry for our 3/4 BAB'ers would be huge. Some spare scrolls for the casters will turn a challenging series of encounters into something more manageable.
My two coppers :)

Wandering GM Wastrel |

So there's an agreement to press onward to E14, rather than to head back? Just checking that I've understood you all.
EDIT: if it matters, it's now been more than a month since you were last at Oleg's.

Aivar Kurisyl |

A month?! Aivar's lush curls demand a detour so that they can get a proper wash and cut.
Silliness aside, from what I gather, we want to drop down to E-14, move east to E-10, and then go back up to Oleg's. There's consensus on that :D

Wandering GM Wastrel |

OK, I'll get a post up to that effect.

Wandering GM Wastrel |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

The toadstool circle/dead unicorn hex is cursed (you might even say it's... *puts on sunglasses* hexed): claiming it will reduce your realm's Stability and Loyalty by 1.
(You might ask in that case why you would want to claim it. We'll get to that.)

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Anyway... on to E12? Or something else?
