Oleg will buy stuff off you. It's a trading post, after all.
Arianna Wending
Ooh, I like this lootsheet quite a lot. If I may I'd love the scale mail, but since I also sent 200gp of my share to my family I'll leave it up to Raquel, if she wants the scale mail she can have it otherwise I'll take it.
I'm guessing Raquel is carrying the variable Wand of Cure x Wounds?
Raquel Cailean
You can have the armor, Arianna. I prefer the chain shirt so I have more mobility to get to those who need healing. And yes, I have the wand.
Wandering GM Wastrel
Yeah, those of you in medium armour, do remember you can only move 4 squares on the battle map rather than six.
Wandering GM Wastrel
If there are any more NPC interactions/purchases/letters, speak now.
I'll move us on in the morning.
Narièl Laeric
One last thing Nariel will do is scribe up a few more scrolls. I've made the necessary GP adjustments to the loot sheet to pay for the materials. I'll be making the following:
1st Level
Silent Image (25g)
Identify (25g)
2nd Level
Monster Summoning II (150g)
One last thing Wastrel, is it possible for Nariel to get her hands on some Trip Arrows? She can't do much in the way of damage, but this would be useful in certain situations. Is it something she could send a request home for to pickup next time we return from the wild?
Aivar Kurisyl
Am I correct in assuming that Aivar has +/- 1100 gp to spend? If so, he'd want to put his hands on a masterwork glaive if one is available and a regular banded mail. The two items together cost 529 gp if he sells his old glaive and armor. If he can't sell those, it would be 558 gp.
Raquel Cailean
I'll sort out exactly how much gold I have tomorrow, but the only main purchase I would like to get is a masterwork cold iron rapier.
Wandering GM Wastrel
@Nariel - trip arrow is fine, I imagine these are in demand by hunters and trappers so no need to get them from Kyonin.
@Aivar - no problems, you can order it and it will be here by the time you're ready to head out again. You can sell your old weapon and armour.
@Raquel - no problems, same as Aivar, it will be ready by the time you head out.
Tristan Aislin
Tristan would also go for masterwork cold iron rapier if he's got the cash (which looks like we will?). Blade twins, Raquel!
Wandering GM Wastrel
I'm assuming that you buy horses to restore your movement speed to maximum.
Wandering GM Wastrel
Hex D7 (Shrike Falls*) is a Landmark: claiming this hex will grant you +1 loyalty.
*feel free to come up with a better name
Aivar Kurisyl
Most definitely. We should also, funds allowing, score a mule or spare horse. We can toss whatever we find on it, use it as a back-up mount or push it into a trapped dungeon corridor. Okay, perhaps not the latter, but a spare mount and beast of burden ought to be handy.
How about 'the Cascades'? Shrike Falls work as well.
@Nariel: how do I go about subtracting the costs for Aivar's new weapon and armor from the loot tab? Total costs boil down to 529 gp. I don't want to mess up the sheet D:
Wandering GM Wastrel
A donkey or mule is 8 gp, so not a problem. Take as many as you like.
A light riding horse is 75 gp, or 110 gp if you want one that's combat-trained.
Aivar Kurisyl
Two mules for foodstuffs, tents and some luxury items to make our journey more enjoyable sounds like a good investment to me. Perhaps a box with extra shoes?
Hey. Don't judge me.
Wandering GM Wastrel
Aivar "pretty boy with his box of shoes" Kurisyl it is, then.
Aivar Kurisyl
1 person marked this as a favorite.
A literal goody two-shoes.
Tristan Aislin
But two-shoes is the normal amount. You said you wanted extra.
Aivar Kurisyl
Shhhh!!!
Sasha Yezhov
Hey, friends. I'm at a conference until tomorrow afternoon. Please bot me as necessary.
Narièl Laeric
@Nariel: how do I go about subtracting the costs for Aivar's new weapon and armor from the loot tab? Total costs boil down to 529 gp. I don't want to mess up the sheet D:
Hey Aivar, good question. For new gear, you essentially make a gold piece purchase, and then take the trade in value of for whatever your turning in.
I'll make the adjustment to show you, assuming your trade-in value for 529g.
On another note, are we agreed on an extra horse or mule? I think we'll collectively share the cost of new mounts, no?
Wandering GM Wastrel
@Raquel (and others) - I know the Take 10/Take 20 mechanic is part of the rules, but in general I'd prefer if you roll the dice.
Also, map updated to show the river crossing at F10 (strategic point, +1 Stability when claiming this hex) and the fangberry thickets at F11 (resource, +1 Economy when claiming this hex).
Wandering GM Wastrel
No problem! It's just a minor bugbear of mine :)
Tristan Aislin
If you want to explore other options, I've occasionally changed 'take 10' into 'roll 2d10 instead' because it gives a higher average roll but still allows for failure.
Narièl Laeric
By the way, just as an aside I've noticed that Raquel is 3HP short on her maximum. She should have (8+1 Con bonus) x 3 for 27 HP, not 24. That'll help here!
Wandering GM Wastrel
I'm going to post round 2 now to keep things moving - Aivar, Arianna and Sasha can post their round 1 action with round 2 when they turn up.
Tristan Aislin
Wastrel, would the spiders count as a swarm (a single target) for the purposes of the spell Ear-Piercing Scream?
Wandering GM Wastrel
The rules for swarms would suggest no (the example given of a single-target spell that doesn't work is Disintegrate, but the reasoning seems to apply here as well).
Raquel Cailean
Yes, swarms suck, especially at low levels when most PCs don't have effective ways of dealing with them. If you have a torch, you can light it and try to do something at least.
Wandering GM Wastrel
Agreed: if it's not in the rules, let's say that a burning torch will do d3 fire damage to a swarm
Aivar Kurisyl
> Torch
Price 1 cp; Weight 1 lb.
A torch burns for 1 hour, shedding normal light in a 20-foot radius and increasing the light level by one step for an additional 20 feet beyond that area (darkness becomes dim light and dim light becomes normal light). A torch does not increase the light level in normal light or bright light. If a torch is used in combat, treat it as a one-handed improvised weapon that deals bludgeoning damage equal to that of a gauntlet of its size, plus 1 point of fire damage.
The rules state that torches do 1d3 blunt plus one fire damage upon striking a foe when wielded by a medium creature ._.
Wandering GM Wastrel
Ok, that works - ignore the blunt damage (weapon damage doesn't affect swarms) but the fire damage will still apply.
Raquel Cailean
Remind me to always prepare sound burst from now on. :(
I assume spiritual weapon won't work since it attacks like a weapon even though it's a spell?
Narièl Laeric
Eeek spiders!
Just want to check something before posting into gameplay: my plan is to have the Air Elemental use whirlwind on Nariel's position, blowing the spiders up into the air before shifting away from both, then using pummel on the swarm from the elemental if possible (Reflex DC 14 to resist, with augment summon feat)
This is the key note, creatures smaller than the elemental (i.e spiders) are at a disadvantage
Wandering GM Wastrel
@Nariel, yes that should work provided the swarm fails its save.
I'll give Sasha a bit more time to post before I bot her to keep things moving.
Raquel Cailean

Looking forward to Nariel's Marilyn Monroe moment. Though it would probably be sexier without the spiders.
Wandering GM Wastrel
But spiders can hug you with eight arms instead of two: that's four times as much love! :D

I've just been told that I'll be travelling with work on Weds-Fri this week. I'll do my best to post but opportunities may be scarce.
Narièl Laeric

That, and the dry heaves brought on by nausea probably don't help the scene much. Poor, frail Nariel, can't seem to pass a fortitude roll to save her life... I mean that in the literal sense.
Sasha Yezhov
Super sorry, guys. I went to that conference and then when I got home, it turns out I caught something from it. Knocked me out for a couple days. I still haven't leveled, so I'll do that and then post.
Narièl Laeric
Just as an aside Wastrel, the DC for Nariel's summoned Elemental Whirlwind is 14, not 12 (the base for a small air elemental) - so the spiders would have failed, and the damage is also 1d4+3. Whirlwind is a strength based attack, and Nariel has Augment Summoning meaning her summons have +4 Strength and Constitution, making them tougher than the average bear.
In any event, it'll probably be too hard to retro the post - but maybe we can just assume they fail this turn?
Sasha Yezhov
I finally remembered to level, so here's the breakdown:
+9 HP
+1 BAB
+1 Fort/Will
+1 rank in all skills
+1d6 on Sneak Attacks
- Gang Up (new feat): Now I count as flanking enemies regardless of my position, as long as there are two additional allies in melee range of my target.
- Danger Sense +1: This gives me a +1 bonus to saves and AC to avoid trap effects. It also gives me +1 to Perception to avoid being surprised by monsters.
- Finesse Training upgrade: I choose one of the weapons affected by Weapon Finesse—in my case, rapier—and I can add my Dexterity bonus to damage instead of Strength.
- Convincing Attitude upgrade: Now, when I attempt a Diplomacy check and fail to influence a creature’s attitude by 5 or more, the creature’s attitude remains unchanged instead of decreasing by one step.
Wandering GM Wastrel
@Nariel - I just went with the numbers in the SRD and forgot about the Augment Summons. My bad. That said, I also forgot that since the swarm works by occupying your square, the whirlwind would have hit you too.
In any event, Sasha has crisped them nicely so it all works out in the end.
