Wandering GM Wastrel |

Hope you are all still here!
Sorry about the information dump in the gameplay thread, but we've lost too much time already and I want to get us up and running again.
EDIT: If you're still getting the error message when you hit "Submit Post" try logging out your account and then back in

Arianna Wending |

Boy do I want to launch this website into the sun.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Nuke the site from orbit - it's the only way to be sure..

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, Submit Post
Always.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Oh, thank F***! I only hope we haven't lost anyone along the way.

Arianna Wending |

Literally just did a double-take when I realized there was no longer that stupid rat.

Aivar Kurisyl |

Paizo and forums ...

Narièl Laeric |

Still here... utterly amazed at how poorly this website has been operating of late though. I mean, it was never great, but this past week has to take the cake, wow.

Tristan Aislin |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Stumbles out of a tavern, half-naked and three-quarters drunk.
"Wha, we back? Sphlendid then!"
I'll have time for a proper post later tonight.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Only half-naked? Tristan's reforming his ways!
On the Indentured point I raised in gameplay: when House Rogarvia first came to power after Choral's conquest of Brevoy, one of the things they did to shore up their position was end the practice of "reversion" - the punishment of Freeborn by returning them to Indentured status, usually for payment of a debt, but in practice for any crime that their Lord felt deserved it.
Ending reversion allowed the Freeborn class to become wealthy, safe in the knowledge that a jealous noble won't suddenly swoop in and take it all by returning them to Indentured status. This meant that Brevoy has had a stable and prosperous middle class for 200 years.
The practice of reversion is still quite common in the River Kingdoms, and is one of the (many) reasons those realms are so unstable.

Arianna Wending |

Alignment doesn't cover half of it, Arianna and Tristan are both neutral good but Arianna is over here like Cool Motive, Still Murder.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Yeah, I was never keen on the alignment system in D&D.
Anyway - forum issues aside - are you waiting on me, or am I waiting on you guys?

Wandering GM Wastrel |

*crosses fingers, toes, and eyes*
please let everyone still be here, please let everyone still be here, please let everyone still be here...

Narièl Laeric |

Present; assuming the site doesn't go down again tonight I'll post

Aivar Kurisyl |

Present. Busy times at work and my body isn't loving it, so might not reply till much later today or early tomorrow.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Glad everyone is present! Get well soon, Aivar.
Ugh. I honestly thought you would kill them all. Now I have to make up another NPC (just kidding, I love the way you guys are playing this, it keeps me on my toes! Apart from the forum crashes, I'm really enjoying this game)

Wandering GM Wastrel |

What can I say? I'm just a big softie at heart ;-)

Arianna Wending |

The moral dissonance is just killing me, man. I haven't played as much as I'd like, and the enemies I've encountered have been monsterous humanoids who fought to the death, goblins, undead, demons, and literally Nazis. Now it's actual people and I keep wanting to inject modern sensibilities.
As it turns out it's a good thing I made Arianna's little siblings indentured cause it gives me reason to play her as kind of a hard@$$.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

@Arianna - that's absolutely fine, there's no reason you should all agree on everything, especially given your different backgrounds, personalities and upbringing.
But this is an Ultimate Intrigue based game, so easy and straightforward moral decisions are likely to be thin on the ground. This is more a shades-of-grey morality rather than black/white.
EDIT: keep forgetting loot. Let's do that now.
Ok, so after the fight you have
1 masterwork composite shortbow (+2 Str)
3 shortbows
80 arrows
1 chain shirt
3 sets studded leather armour
4 short swords
4 daggers
35 gold pieces
1 silver stag amulet

Tristan Aislin |

Now that we've found two chain shirts, Tristan wouldn't mind upgrading his armor to one of those if everyone is fine with that.

Raquel Cailean |

Go for it! Raquel is keeping her armored coat, since it's easy to remove when it's time to swashbuckle!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

@Sasha (and others) - sorry if the rapid posting meant you missed out. I was keen not to let things die after all of the forum collapses, but I don't want to leave anyone out. Feel free to break your posts up into sub-headings (e.g Earlier/Now) if that helps.
Also, I loved Sasha's reply, although I've no idea what the forum rules are on these things. I suspect we're well within the boundaries, though!

Narièl Laeric |

Ah were fine, and it was a good riposte on Sasha's part XD

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Really enjoying the character interactions! Keep em coming.
Busy with work right now, but will get a post up later today.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

You have 2 full days of peaceful downtime before Oleg returns, in which to heal up, scribe a scroll or two, and generally get yourselves ready for the next bit of the AP: (h)exploration!
I'll post the next bit later today or tomorrow morning depending on my workload.

Raquel Cailean |

Raquel has nothing specific she wants to do. She'll just help Svetlana around the trading post as much as she can, maybe brew some drinks if they have the necessary ingredients in stock.

Tristan Aislin |

Tristan would spend the time browsing whatever books the outpost might have, learning what he can of survival/geography/etc from his companions he can pick up (just fluff to explain the wide skill set he'll be developing as he levels up), and composing a dark, somber song about hanging a bandit.

Aivar Kurisyl |

Aivar will volunteer to help fix whatever he can help fixing in and around the outpost. Barring that, he'll aim to get a lot of sleep so that his batteries are fully charged for the stressful days (weeks?!) ahead.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

She takes the letter and promises to give it to Sasha when she wakes up, then almost immediately breaks the seal and reads the letter. "Right...mostly none of my business, then." She leaves the letter where Sasha will find it when she wakes up
I love it! Now we just have to see how Sasha reacts XD

Wandering GM Wastrel |

A few notes:
1) I've tucked the loot/calendar/NPC roster into a single sheet labelled player admin - the campaign header was getting a bit crowded. It should still be editable, let me know if it's not.
2) You now have a map! (It's best viewed at 100% or even 200% zoom - use the magnifying glass in the top left corner) Time to go exploring. From a metagaming point, the challenges get tougher as you go South so I would start at Row B before going on to C, D, etc. But it's your call :)
3) Influence. Dice rolls are only a part of how you influence people in this campaign (I can hear Raquel's sigh of relief from here). At least as important are your actions, e.g. do you accept a gift or not, and if so do you return the favour at some point. In addition, who you choose to associate with will in turn affect how you are seen by others.
I'm just here to help tell the story. If you want further input or comment, feel free to discuss further, either here or via PM.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Also: apologies for the slow pacing recently. This whole stopover at Oleg's thing was supposed to be a couple of RL days, but the conversations took longer than I thought. The forum crashes got in the way too.
Once you get exploring I'll try to keep the pace moving!

Aivar Kurisyl |

I think the pace is just fine. Actually, the pace is great when taking into consideration the recent forum problems :)

Narièl Laeric |

Agreed, the pace is just fine. I blame any hangups purely on forum related issues that had a tendency to break the momentum. I found myself sometimes asking what were we doing again? when the forums came back to life.

Raquel Cailean |

Yeah, I would've wrote the letter earlier but I forgot about it! But the pace is great, and I'm looking forward to keeping things moving now that the forum issues have all been (hopefully) ironed out!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

@Tristan - I'd imagine that Garess would learn from someone, if not Oleg and Svetlana then possibly from Petrov himself. It's not a secret.

Sasha Yezhov |

Working on a post now. Got hit by the triple whammy of working Saturday night, mom's birthday on Sunday, and then Labor Day.

Narièl Laeric |

Awww, I made Nariel CRY!
Lol yeah, you sure did. With 18 intelligence, having mastered eight languages and being the rather studious type, Nariel isn't accustomed to failure or bad appraisals from those she looks up too or considers a mentor... hence her anguish over the letter.
In other words, I think Nariel is the kind of person who gets upset with anything less than an A+. The perfectionist flaw kinda suits her actually now that I think of it.
