Been looking around the threads to no avail for an example of gaining Psionic Focus. The documentation I'm reading says it takes a Meditation check, which I didn't count on during character creation (learned a few things about class skills and such too)
Is this a thing we're doing, and is it alright if I pull a rank from my other skills to get Meditate up to something where I can take 10 to gain Psionic Focus? As adorkable as Flann is, I don't really fancy struggling to reload his psionic pea-shooter to the detriment of his actual role as a healer.
Connor of McIntyre |
Yep, you can rearrange ranks. And yes, but everyone bought it up to where they can take 10 to do it. :)
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/feats/
Psionic focus has a lot of feats and bonuses tied to it, mostly discipline abilities. We've discovered Autohypnosis http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/skills/autohypnosis-wis-trained- only/ almost as good for the additional "resist dying" save.
Flann Swallowtail |
Now I'm reading that the meditation for Psionic Focus isn't itself a skill, but an extension of Concentration, which is also not a rankable skill... I'd be at a +10 though (WIS+Level) so I think I can take 10 and gain it...
I don't see anything about Psionic Focus in Autohypnosis... I've got it though.

Yep, should've taken concussive onslaught instead of energy wall. That way, Connor could have manifested it at 600 ft instead of 150, and given the enemy ship 3d6 force damage for 5 rounds. Still, seeing a large ribbon of fire flying towards them should give the enemy a little sweat on their brows.

mdt may be having a rough week again.
Elrohir |
Guys, gals and all others,
I want to apologize for my extended absence, I am having serious difficulty getting into the proper mindset for post torture/wingless(natural) Elrohir. He's been severely damaged, and since I've not every even kinda experienced something like that, I don't really know how to portray him.
I'm not saying I'm quitting, but if you guys want me to leave, I will. I just am not sure how best to play 'Sting' at this point, and it's super frustrating, especially cuz 'Flick' was super fun.

No problem Elrohir, take your time. If you want to switch out characters, let me know, I have no issue with it.
Sorry about the break guys, I got slammed hard by work last week and things are just getting back to normal. I have worked about 90 hours since last Monday. When I do get some time off I'm exhausted.
I hope to get things back again tomorrow or Saturday.
Connor of McIntyre |
No problem, mdt & Sting. At the present time, unless those enemy cannons stop, we're at an impasse. Of course, it can always get worse. But Connor's losing psionic power points now.
Flann Swallowtail |
I may have misread distances. Flann is linked to any constructs that are on or around our ship.
Flann Swallowtail |
Reading through the Collective move again, I don't think targets are dropped unless they leave the 160' radius, or willingly opt-out. The standard action is just to add targets to the collective. So I guess as long as I'm sticking to just constructs or just humanoids, I can pool together more than 4 units given time.
As a standard action, a vitalist can join a number willing targets into his collective equal to his key ability modifier or half his vitalist level, whichever is higher.
Flann Swallowtail |
Sure thing.
Connor of McIntyre |
I knew as soon as I got serious with energy wall that one of our engines would be hit.
The balor appearing, not so much.
For the new guys, we ran into Grimjowl a while ago on the Surface. He's an ambitious Lizardfolk who swallowed a soulgem. Among other magic powers this gives him, it happened to have a balor inside it. Which meant if we ever killed Grimjowl, a balor would appear in his place. Nice. And now it looks like Grimjowl can turn into a balor for some time.
Grimjowl wanted his own flying ship, wants to compete with Atalantia's trade routes with the Surface, etc. Like I said, ambitious. With Elrohir's side story, Grimjowl is also a sadistic sonofagun as well.
Fight the balor!
mdt |
Just for clarity, this is a balor.
What Grimjowl is.. you're not quite sure, but it's not a Balor. More like a half-fiend with extras.
Connor of McIntyre |
mdt, you okay? Are you waiting on anyone?
Connor of McIntyre |
Slammed with spring cleaning. Will post tomorrow.
Flann Swallowtail |
I do know that if they leave the collective, they loose all benefits gained, like THP. On the bright side, with the Soulthief's Pulse, creatures in the collective leech 2 HP per successful attack, so creatures that can attack more than once per round can stack heals which can then also be transferred to allies in the collective.

Let the fleeing battle continue!
Elrohir |
Glad I'm not the only not having too much time this week.
Between a very busy weekend, and being sick most of the week with a icky head cold, I have only made the barest of posts in my games.
I will catch up tonight, and try to reply soon.
Flann Swallowtail |
Sending patient well-wishes your way, mtd.
Connor of McIntyre |
Yes, get better, mdt!
Flann Swallowtail |
Found PCGen.org. Updated my character sheet. Most notably: Flann is now a skilled midwife.
Connor of McIntyre |
Oh-kay.... ;)
Wonder if that will come up in the plot or not...
Flann Swallowtail |
I'd spent so much time rearranging skills trying to figure out concentration, when I realized there were favored class bonuses, I really didn't know what to do with them, and I'd already underestimated my powers known.
Midwife seemed on-brand.
Adraniel |
No worries, I started a new job as well a couple weeks ago now. We are still around :)
Connor of McIntyre |
Yeah, my travel business had me on the phone all day yesterday, with 2 conference calls that night. Ugh.
Connor of McIntyre |
Get better soon, mdt!
mdt |
*sigh*

Ok, to get us back on line, how about I move us on?
The constructs are going to get ripped apart by Grimjowl, and he's got a healer, so they won't take him down, just slow him some.
They only have 2 anti-ship sniper rounds left (50-48). They won't be able to do much damage to the ship after that. Your healer can keep the snipers from killing anyone, more than likely.
The only real issue, now that you're running away is the ship itself. I can just do the 10 rounds of cannon fire to see how much damage the ship takes. If it takes enough engine hits, we can move to abandon/fight questions, but otherwise, you can limp off and look for a place to settle down and do repairs.
Connor of McIntyre |
I'm willing to take the chance of 10 rounds, as long as I'm not the one rolling the dice! (No, seriously, the dicebot hates Connor.)
Man, where's the local National Air Guard when you really need them, this is "anything goes" in the Southern Continent.
Find a place to do some repairs, yes. Shame we don't have a 20th Century Earth tracking device to put on the enemy airship. I'd send Hero the psicrystal, but he's only got a 1-mile range.
Adraniel |
Sounds good to me. Sorry for all that is going on.
Flann Swallowtail |
Until we're aground and Flann can officially quit the ship to become a groupie, he's just here to try and keep folk alive.
Connor of McIntyre |
Sorry, not my fault this time, sites been up and down like a yoyo.
Ditto!
Connor of McIntyre |
Pazio was down all weekend for me! Nothing but timeouts on the web pages until Tuesday morning! **shakes fist**
So, should the players have a meeting tonight around a table, or do you all want us to go to normal activities until we reach the Feld Ranges city?
Adraniel |
what are we going to meet about? How outmatched we were and what can we hope to do? :)
Connor of McIntyre |
Hopefully positive things, like we found Grimjowl, we just had outdated information about his abilities and his crew. We might have to play fox-and-rabbit for a few months, getting some guns for the Elephant via trading, and hopefully leveling, but we should be able to easily find him again and go on the offensive.
Volita Involo |
Yeah to most of that. Two points come to mind:
1) We might wanna start taking trading seriously. More cash apparently will bring us more and bigger guns, as well as more and more skilled crew to man them, which apparently we need.
2) In just two levels I can do bigger constructs, and if we do that thing where we just make a whole bunch and then launch them all at once, that should go better at least.
Connor of McIntyre |
'Svobli' comes up on the Vellandrus map as being on the Southernmost coast, outside the mountainous Gand Ranges, at the border of desert Polastra and desert Kisan (just barely in Kisan). In other words, about 300-400 miles South of Durchmirde in the Feld Ranges, where we were supposed to be going!
Somebody keel-haul the navigator. Oh wait, that's us with our Profession: Sailor skils. Nuts.
I'm at the automobile shop getting my annual inspection and some new brakes, so I'm on limited bandwidth. I'll post a more detailed response from Connor about being 400 miles off-course tonight. I should have him get several days of power-stone-making in, with this kind of delay. ;)
Connor of McIntyre |
Crazy, crazy weekend. Will post tomorrow night.

So I tried having Connor craft some gladiator's gauze for the new people. Power stones take too long in battle, and Connor's not yet rich enough to do big universal items or dorjes or such. I think our priority now is beefing up the airship, and making money.
