I'm not exactly sure how to spend Flann's downtime. Healing the sick and birthing the new, AFAIK, which I think comes down to a craft roll...

Connor of McIntyre |

I've got Vacation Bible School at my church this week, and I'm a volunteer for the all-morning classes. I'm one of the grunts directing parents' cars in the parking lot and carrying stuff for the other teachers. I'll still be looking at the Pazio boards in the evenings.

mdt |

BTW: For those who didn't catch it, the whole engine thing is a call out to Operation Petticoat. If you haven't seen the movie, I strongly suggest you view it. It's one of the funnier war movies they put out in the 50's.

Connor of McIntyre |

I saw that before I went to college. It was Engine #4, wasn't it?

Connor of McIntyre |

Nobody's waiting on Connor, I hope!
I think the picture is, Volita & Flann are still on the ground, Connor and others are still on the ship. And that cursed engine is still sputtering like a candle about to go out.

Flann Swallowtail |

I'd continue to hit on the little reptilian (for science) if I didn't think we'd be embarking soon.

Connor of McIntyre |

Not enough time to post on Saturday! Busy busy Sunday. (Going to learn how to self-publish my novels.)
Will try tomorrow night! 'Cause Monday morning I'm on a small road trip.

Connor of McIntyre |

I'm not trying to hog the conversation, Volita. If you want to re-direct the trading part of the discussion, go right ahead.
If not, Connor will just ask the Regent for some hints for non-weapon items to bring back from home - fruits, artwork, fashion clothing, etc.

mdt |

I didn't think you ****'d up, I thought you were trying to negotiate. It was just that you were negotiating from a point of weakness. That whole broken ship thing leaves you in a weak position though.

Connor of McIntyre |

Sad to hear that. After all the effort he went through to return to the game.

Flann Swallowtail |

Anything I need in my last post? Not impatient, just nervous.

Connor of McIntyre |

Just a notice, starting Sunday, August 20th, I'll be on a road trip until Tuesday the 22nd. Assuming we make it through the Great American Eclipse on the 21st, and there are no tidal waves near Norfolk, VA, I'll be reading and posting only sporadically.

Adraniel |

I was worried it came across that way after. The intention wasn't to be mean. My apologies.

FYI to all my games :
I live in Texas (Austin), and one of the options Harvey has is to wander up and over Austin and laze around and drop a couple of feet of water on us. So if I don't post this week it's because we lost power, internet, or both. Should be fine for anything else, we live on a hill so if we have water flooding our living room, the entire Mississippi river valley is under 80 ft of water from New Orleans to St. Louis. :) So we'd have a lot more problems than flooding at that point.

Connor of McIntyre |

Praying for you and my uncle in Houston, mdt.

Adraniel |

Adrans on his way back to the ship to regroup, waiting on everyone else to finish up :)

Flann Swallowtail |

I just didn't want to go on a total rapid-fire rampage. I'll finish up if everyone else is waiting...

Connor of McIntyre |

Still here! Double-checking the Gameplay tab...

mdt |

Maybe Connor can get a hold full of illegal firearms from the nice old woman who smuggles magic items for the Harpie Queen? They were on such nice terms last time they met, I'm sure she'd be happy to help Connor get a few thousand pounds of illegal arms... ;)

The 1,600 is what Flann left behind in case he got robbed. Back when we were departing the ship, Flann left the majority of his gold behind, taking a little over 1kgp with him. When I made the post about retrieving the gold, I swapped the significant figures, leaving behind the smaller purse, which you read to be his current total.
The SRD lists starting wealth for a level 6 character as 16,000 gp.
Cap and ball rifle: 750gp
Rosewood Armor: 50gp
Beneficial Bandolier 1000gp
Chirurgeon's Kit 400gp
Spike's services 53gp
--------------------------
That would leave 6647 in pocket, and 1600 in Flann's room at the Inn.
I have 5947 and 1600 written on my sheet, no idea where the other 700 went.
Is that okay? What should I do differently? I'm okay with whatever, just trying to make sense of things so we can move forward.

Connor of McIntyre |

Super-occupied today. Will post tonight.

mdt |

No problem, just waiting on :
Flann : Confirming he takes off all his equipment other than his coin purse and clothes.
Volita : Further questions to mechanic/comments on the gold/etc
Adraniel : Further activity
Connor : Response to mechanic/questions/etc

For Flann :
Pistol mode (Cartridge)
Weight : 1.5lbs (small pistol)
Damage : 1d4
Capacity : 5
Range : 40
Misfire : 1
Critical : x2
Special : Can fire Rifle Rounds, Increase Range to 60, Increase Misfire to 3, Increase Damage to 1d6, -4 to attack rolls
Sniper Rifle mode (Cartridge)
Weight : 5lbs (small sniper rifle)
Damage : 1d8
Capacity : 5
Range : 80
Misfire : 1
Critical : x3
Special : Can fire Pistol Rounds, Decrease Range to 60, Increase Misfire to 2, Decrease Damage to 1d4, Decrease Critical to x2
It takes 5 minutes to assemble the sniper rifle. It can be disassembled in 1 minute, but takes 4 minutes to properly store all the parts in the travel case. If the parts are not properly stored, increase the assembly time to 30 minutes.
The weapon is MW, and grants a +1 to hit.
The weapon also comes with a scope that decreases the range penalties by -1 per increment (so 5 increments is normally -10, with the scope, it becomes a -5). Requires at least one move action to aim with the scope before each shot to gain this benefit.
Fully stored in the case, the gun weighs 8 lbs (5 lbs for the gun, 3 lbs for the case). The case can hold up to 50 rounds each of rifle and pistol ammo in it. There's also holsters for two additional cylinders for rapid reloading (not included).
The holsters will hold a speed loader also, which is also available for a small charge.

If anyone is interested, I'm kinda doing a fun little one-off.
Let's get this craziness started.

Connor of McIntyre |

I'm trying to remember what Atalanta of Atalantius would want in trade. The capital city, as it were. More mercenary stuff? More fashion stuff? We're going to be making a multi-week jaunt across a lot of empty ocean back to the floating islands, so I'm not keen on spoiled fruit and vegetables again.
Our "real" mission means we need to shoot Grimjowl's ship out of the sky. The last battle wasn't promising. Enemies always seem to have more gold to spend on weapons than you! Even if we all level, Connor's not going to have much more than energy wall and concussive onslaught, and Grimjowl has proven that his cannons can outdistance those. So we need at least one extra-long-range cannon, if not two, and the cannonballs to go with them. Non-magical, if possible.
But I wonder if Connor can make psionic cannonballs? Connor doesn't have much in the way of destructive psionic powers, he's had to get utility powers for the team instead. Of course, if we could make psionic bombs, then Volita and Connor's astral constructs could carry them over to Grimjowl's ship. Maybe we could get some barrels of Alchemist's Fire and gunpowder for the constructs to deliver.

Metals (mining on the island is, problematic), glass, exotic cloth, food, those are all good things to buy/sell. Spices. Wood.
Enemies have more gold because they can raise it from things the PC's can't, like killing and looting.

A hull full of steel ingots and colored glass panes sounds good. Or cloth instead of fragile glass. Or glass wrapped in expensive cloth? :)

Flann Swallowtail |

When Flann is done throwing away money, we'll see what's behind the ship wheel door. (Probably ship guns.)
Might take a day for me to post anything significant. We got robbed IRL and I'm busy with recovery stuff.
I'm deferring to mtg's pick of cartridge magazines. I don't think Flann will use the gun enough to really run out, and the isles is our next stop... I'll know better after a few encounters.

mdt |

You already saw what is behind the ship wheel door.
You walked through it after tehy opened it.
it led to a huge complex you walked through, about a half-mile of it.
Odd how that worked, since you were on the 3rd floor and it was built into the outside wall.

Connor of McIntyre |

Might take a day for me to post anything significant. We got robbed IRL and I'm busy with recovery stuff.
Whoa, Flann - sorry to hear that!! Apartment or house? I live in a fairly safe neighborhood, but I always lock my car and bolt the house doors during the night. But anybody with a crowbar and determination can break all that.

Flann Swallowtail |

Just some kids busting through a window to snatch my consoles. They didn't even bother with any of our computers. I just had to take time to file a report and the insurance claim, then fix the window... Nothing quite like calling in more strangers to document the time strangers got in your house though.
That gun does look really cool.

In that case, they needed cannon, not cargo.
Another reason I have trouble putting effort into the cargo trade, is that it seems like there's a lot going that I don't know about, and anything can just get vetoed on a whim.
So, Connor, are we not doing any trade goods at all?

Connor of McIntyre |

Let's see how much a cannon will cost us first, then see what cargo we want to go home with. I don't see anybody but me crafting, Flann is happily buying a weapon to go with WBL, and Adran should be back with his "intelligence report" soon.
I foresee some days being bored while the Elephant gets repaired, a bit of last-minute haggling, and going back to the floating islands broke but alive. I'm not going to veto any purchases unless our repairs eat all of our profit.
And for me that's the only reason to put any cargo to a vote. I'd rather get the Regent's mission done than not done. Consider the trading info that Volita is getting almost as valuable as physical cargo itself; half of those mercenaries that come here from Atlantia are going to be looking to sell things, too.

mdt |

GM Question : Do you want to seek out some (potentially profitable) adventure while your ship is being repaired, or do you want to skip the month of down time? I can go either way.

Connor of McIntyre |

I'm hearing we need coin. A short in-town adventure might be just what we need before the long journey home.

Flann Swallowtail |

I'm not invested in the larger plot yet, but Flann hasn't seen a normal encounter yet, and he'll want to test his new toy weapon.
