GM Aumakua |
Detecting auras is a Knowledge Arcana. Identifying items uses Spellcraft. Typically you roll for each aura but 1 roll is sufficient here I believe Kirzon gets +5 for untrained knowledge checks so your roll is 21
Kirzon as you continue to concentrate you sense two faint auras that come from behind one of the barrels. One aura is from the conjuration school and the second one is evocation.
Merelda "The Widow" Widdomeria |
Merelda moves to the next door and listens for any sounds.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Updated movement on the map.
GM Aumakua |
The auras are coming from behind the barrel but Kirzon you do not notice any sort of traps. You will need to move the barrel in question to get to whatever the source of the magic is. Need a Strength check DC 15 to move the barrel. 2 more can assist other to help.
Merelda you move to the door putting your ear against it. You concentrate for a moment focusing on the other side but you do not hear any sounds.
Kirzon |
Strength check is the best kind of check for our party. :)
Kirzon attempts to move the barrel out of the way with a great heave! Strength Check, Guidance, Innis: 1d20 + 0 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 0 + 1 + 2 = 19 Yes!
He'll then identify the additional magic if possible. Will make some spellcraft rolls in case they're relevant.
Spellcraft (conjuration): 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 + 2 = 30
Spellcraft (evocation): 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 + 2 = 12
GM Aumakua |
With not too much effort you move the barrel to the side. You find a small niche about a foot off the ground in the wall. Inside the niche you find several items wrapped in cloth: 6 vials and wand.
Your spell reveals the vials to be potions of cure moderate wounds the wand you are unsure of
Merelda "The Widow" Widdomeria |
Merelda will take a look at the wand.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
"Looks like a stick to me. Is that even magical? Could it be a trap?!"
Kirzon |
"Ha! Ah still got the strength from me younger days," boasts Kirzon, proud of moving aside the barrel. "Each o' ya should take one o 'these. It'll close up wounds right quick." Kirzon hands each of the party members a potion of cure moderate wounds.
Everyone please remember to add the potion of cure moderate wounds to your inventory. If you decide you don't want it, say so.
Him'Wazir nar Maekra |
Him nods taking the vial and tucking it into his bandolier, "Always good to have a little insur.. insurity? Insurance? Though of course Innis has been doing a fine job thus far. Speaking of which if anyone has some more minor healing it would be appreciated."
Taking up a position by Merelda he inclines his head, "I am ready when you are."
GM Aumakua |
Did you figure out a strategy for the door? I know Nicias made a suggestion so tell me what you guys are doing.
GM Aumakua |
I've lined you up on the map how I think you would approach the door.
As Him goes to open the door he finds that it has been barred from the inside. Thinking of your options you can either break the door down forcibly or hack it apart.
Innis |
pfft a lumberjack and he aint developed ANY muscle for Calistia's sakes I'm stronger than he is!
Innis |
Merelda and Nicias should try to knock it down i can support the ability check and make them lucky. If it don't budge then axeman can show us his skills.
GM Aumakua |
That would work Innis. Based on location of the door and the well only one person can aid another with charging the door. The area is pretty crammed.
Kirzon |
Hey, Kirzon was a strapping dwarf in his youth, let me tell ya!
Kirzon lets some of the stronger folks do their thing, but is ready to step in. "If ya can't barrel through tha door, ah've got me trusty axe ta take it down." Profession (woodcutter): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 +2 to damage against that door, if needed. He might be a bit older these days, but still knew how to apply good technique when chopping.
Merelda "The Widow" Widdomeria |
Why does no one ever take the 'knock' spell? Single most useful non-combat spell in the game...and I'm pretty sure it works on barred doors too.
Open Door: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Plus any bonuses from Innis and aid another?
I may have to get a Belt of Giant's Strength eventually...
GM Aumakua |
Merelda charges the door following Nicias and you watch as the flimsy door splinters under the impact falling into the next room.
Merelda roll me a Dex check DC12
GM Aumakua |
Innis: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Kirzon: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Boros: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Nicias: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Merelda: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Lililinda: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Hounds: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Robed figure: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
As the door bursts open upon impact, Merelda flies in after it but remarkably she is able maintain her balance and stop herself from going too far into the room.
With a quick glance Merelda sees just how fortunate she is as two gruesome hounds stare back at her with their red eyes. These hounds were at one time alive but now what little skin remains has decayed and barely clings to the hounds' bodies.
The room itself is large and smells dank and musty. A dozen or so small puddles of filthy water on the floor attest to the room’s recent flooding. A sagging wooden workbench sits against the north wall, and on the wall above it is a pair of empty wooden shelves. A flight of stone steps set against the east wall lead up.
On the landing leading up you see a figure dressed in a voluminous hooded black robes. Under the hood you see a few long wisps of red hair that still cling to this creature's fleshless, grinning skull.
No surprise round.
Initiative order
1.Robed figure
2.Party
3.Hounds
GM Aumakua |
ROUND 1
The robed creature moves down the stair and in a raspy female voice you hear it speak a few incantations before it points a fleshless finger at Merelda and hits her with a dark ray.
Merelda may a Fortitude check DC 14. Failure means you take 6 points of strength damage. Otherwise take 3 points of strength damage.
Ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Party's Turn
Merelda "The Widow" Widdomeria |
Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Wow. Can my day get any worse? Whatever...better me than Him I guess.
Falling back into the corner of the room, Merelda reaches for her goddess and casts a spell back at the figure.
Ear Piercing Scream. (DC: 13 Fort save for 1/2 damage and negates the dazed effect)
Sonic Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 + Dazed (If that's possible)
This is just getting ridiculous now. Can we please just go up a level soon?

Boros slithers into the room and bites down on the hound.

Merelda: Re-roll your Next d20
Innis' visage distorts as she takes few brief steps forward pecking Merelda on the cheek for good luck and focusing her blessing to defend the snake that in now engaged with an undead hound.
GM Aumakua |
DM's Favor - Innis make a spellcraft check on the wand that was found in the previous room please
Lililinda what would you like to do? Other than escape to the surface heheh
Lililinda |
What was the result of Lililinda's spellcraft check on the wand? Not enough?
Lililinda moves nearer the door to help illuminate the next room.
Merelda "The Widow" Widdomeria |
That was last combat, and I felt after being blasted personally we might want to try and work this fight all together (and spread out) rather than being blasted apart as a group, nor did I feel like running behind you all to hide. You can stay in the door and shoot if you want, but don't block it if we need to retreat.
GM Aumakua |
No not enough but I'll give it to you since someone could have casted guidance on you. It is a wand of magic missile (lvl 1 and 6 charges)
The scream hits creature and dazes it while throwing back the hood. The few long wisps of red hair clinging to the skull are held in place by an ebony hairpin.
creature is dazed for 1 round
As Boros engages the hound it tries to tear at the snake but misses.
Hound#1 bite: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 - 2 = 7
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The other hound turns and runs at Him who has just slashed its master. The creature sets it teeth into Him's leg and attempts to throw Him down but the nimble keeps his balance. Him take 4 points of damage
Hound#2 bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
ROUND 2
Phased by Merelda's scream the undead creature stands attempts to shake off the effects of the sonic attack.
Party's turn
Kirzon |
"Artsiv!" At Kirzon's command, the celestial eagle appears once more. It screeches in annoyance but still goes straight after the undead creature that is revealed before it.
Eagle appears at L3, then 5-foot steps to M4. Smite Evil and full attack.
Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4; Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8; Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8; Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Yet the eagle is unable to hit its target!
Meanwhile, Boros clamps down on the hound in its grasp. Grapple: 1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 5 = 22; Damage: 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Merelda "The Widow" Widdomeria |
Did i I pick up anything with my Monster Lore checks?
With slow will, Merelda fights off the weakness as best she can, managing to lean less heavily against the wall, and tries
blasting the caster again with a powerful cantrip.
Disrupt Undead RTA: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Luck Re-Roll
Disrupt Undead RTA: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
GM Aumakua |
Merelda did you want to reroll? Innis gave you her luck
Nicias |
That was last combat, and I felt after being blasted personally we might want to try and work this fight all together (and spread out) rather than being blasted apart as a group, nor did I feel like running behind you all to hide. You can stay in the door and shoot if you want, but don't block it if we need to retreat.
No, that was definitely for this combat and My Bombs are much less useful if the enemy is not bunched together. Making them come to us would enable us to surround them as they come at us singly while I am able to sling bombs at multiple targets. Right now I can hit just 1 target, or get 2 with splash damage - a waste of resources. Granted the Magic-user complicates things, but so far he's only done a little damage and I'm confident we can take him.
Innis |
Buffs
Innis & Him: Mage armor; ~1hr
Him: +2 AC
Innis: 1 Mirror image
Innis stays in the doorway watching the ongoing battle and supports her team by manipulating the weaving's of fate. Her visage remains difficult to concentrate on.
Him'Wazir nar Maekra |
Him slashes at the caster, but aims clumsily distracted by the hound and cursing dodges around to take up a position between his for and the stairs without leaving an opening.
Sorry for the delay folks, swear I posted this a couple of days ago, can only assume I lost it with the recent site problems. Unable to move fig currently as on tablet.

GM Aumakua |
Him: Remember you can always indicate what coordinates you'd like to move to. Myself or another will move you. I've moved you to N5
Lililinda: You can use the wand if you would like next round. Normally I'd make you have to find the command word for the wand but don't worry about this time around.
The hound engaged with Boros begins to attack ferociously hoping to kill the snake and free itself, but the creature is not able to sink its teeth into Boros.
Hound #1 bite: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 - 2 = 5

The second hound moves to defend its master running to attack Him and misses.
Artsiv may make an aoo against the hound

Merelda "The Widow" Widdomeria |
Rinse and repeat.
Taking careful aim, she attempts to blast the undead skeleton-caster, but not before updating her team-mates on the situation.
"Bash her!...She's some form of skeletal undead, so swords and arrows will do little against her! And the hounds are just super-fast zombies!"

GM Aumakua |
The blast hits the creature squarely in the back. It quickly looks your way Merelda. Its eyes intent on punishing you for the pain you have caused it.
this might be your week Merelda! you hit!
