It's Cold Outside - PbP RP-focused game (Inactive)

Game Master IejirIsk

Greetings one and all. Have your travels made you weary? Do you wish to relax at a tavern where the people are all friendly?

Then come on down to Ecland's Burning Tavern, and have a nice warm drink on me.

51 to 89 of 89 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

It seems that the party is almost complete, huh?

I just want to know about the Cavalier class: What orders/archtypes do you allow?
I mean, there is a couple of them that focus on defending the land and the lord of the land, and since your premise is about traveling...

And last (but no less important) what is your timezone?

P.D: That's my character so far. Waiting for your answer...

i am in missouri, but work nights, so especially on the weekend i am much more active, when i working.

i dont know if premise == traveling is quite correct. lemme refresh my knowledge of cavaliers and ill repost on here about it.

Here's the character, I went with Paladin since we seem to have a dedicated divine caster by now (Alias will follow soon).

I would like to see some backstory, what are the little things leading your character to this point:

Spoiler:

After an quite unagitated youth Desnold at some point decided he was bored enough to leave his parental farm and become a mercenary, more exactly a cavern guard. As such he lived for the last few years, proofing his worth with sword and, especially, bow on more than one occasion.
Then only a few month back the cavern he was guarding got into an ambush by a bigger group of gnolls while crossing the outskirts of the Osirion dessert.
All resistance was swiftly crushed before the gnolls started to kill every survivor while Desnold, mortally wounded and bleeding out could only watch. Just as one of the ugly canines wanted to finish him off, too, they were interrupted. A single knight had come upon the field of carnage, valiantly challenging the gnolls to leave them be.
The last thing Desnold saw was this single armed and armored women charging headlong towards more than 20 vicious man-hyenas.
When he regained consciousness he was in a Sarenrae church in a small village nearby. The priest told him that a few days ago an woman brought him in, magically brought back from death's door but impossible to be woken. She had told him that Desnold was the only survivor of a caravan raid and asked him to care for him until he wakes, while she herself had to leave to continue her journey to the worldwound, for she was a paladin of Iomedae and had to to her duty.
Desnold, still in shock, was stirred by all this and, after only short consideration, decided to follow in his saviors footsteps and dedicate his life to Iomedae, thus giving his life meaning and hoping to at least partly repay the debt that never can be repaid.

If your character could have one wish, what would it be?

To meet his savior and thank her.

What does your character believe his strongest strength to be?
Right now? His new-found faith.

His (or her) greatest weakness.
Fickle Winds on a non-evil target. :)>
In earnest: His new-found faith. He is still somewhat insecure in his role as a holy crusader and always in danger to have his first crisis of faith, be it because he has to do something he thinks wrong or because he is lead to doubt.
(Note: I don't plan to play him as Lawful Stupid, in the end the working as a group in my eyes takes precedence over "but that's what my character would do!!!!111")

How does your character see himself in the wider world?
A fool who, while not hurting anyone, wasted most his young life searching for personal gain instead of doing something meaningful and right and who now finally sees his fault.

Rogar - beardless dwarf fighter, engineer - definitely tanky...

what kinda gear we looking at?

Knowledge(engineering) explanation: I'm hoping to dip Living Monolith, so each level will gain me one of the skill prereqs.

In terms of gear, I'm looking at: Chainmail, Spiked Heavy Steel Shield, Dwarven War Axe, Shortbow (20 arrows). The standard random adventuring gear will come from my remaining 59gp.

Let me know if you need me to repost Rogar with gear and everything.

I'm in Florida, by the way, so EST for me. I work a weird morning/evening schedule but check the boards regularly and can easily post once/day.

i'd rather you not pick the musketeer (would like to keep firearms out)

I would discourage the Order of the Lion.
Order of the Star... ehh... I can probably work with
Orders of the Seal/Tome I can do stuff with, certainly (and if you go that route, I'll talk to you about it)

The others I see no issues with.

@fink: Your sheet is a little broke (your AC, for instance), and what race/deity?

@Whack-a: I can combine the pair.

I plan on copying the char sheets for my own reference (to make it easier on me) So as long as you have them somewhere I can find, that will work.

Ups, seems I hadn't saved it since a very early stage. Should be fixed now.

alright, alright. now, your languages?

and which class for magical knack (or should I assume pally?)

Yeah, just had noticed the languages myself.
And yes, it's Pally, since they usually have CL = Level - 3, so even without Multiclassing that trait is quite nice for them.

I was thinking on a Marshal-esque character. So far, I thought on a Cavalier (Inspiring Commander archtype) of the Order of the Dragon.

Here is the link:

Since the Inspiring Commander is 3PP, I want first your approval...

Otherwise, I'm going with a Strategist (cavalier archtype) of the Order of the Dragon.

I see no issues with that one, fits a support type.

@Fink: I have your char saved
@Ragnar: Yours is saved

@lou: You have another 5 stat points to spend

ok I thought it was 20 point buy. must have missed how its being done.

updated character profile just need to decide on a replacement trait instead of the Jade regent trait.

probably Iron Liver trait to go with drunken master

@River Calah:
i think you have like 4 things giving you swim as a class skill XD

your stats are a little unbalanced, but that isnt a hugge problem, and I have a dr who quote going through my head....

IejirIsk:
The only things that are making Swim a class skill is the swim speed and the Wisdom in the Flesh Trait. Other than that it is all just large bonuses. I know there won't be much swimming, but most of my backstroy will be based underwater, finding old and lost Thassilonian ruins. Hence the Knowledge History, Linguistics and Thassilonian.

I won't be anywhere near combat, so I decided that having a high Strength is unnecessary as is a high Constitution. I won't be doing much diplomatic talking so Charisma didn't have to change. A high Intelligence is required for being the Witch as well as learning about history. The High Wisdom would keep me from doing foolish things as well as my ability to find off some of the magical traps (that I would be setting off in the ruins) that affect my mind and my high Dexterity helps me dodge any physical traps ... as well as increasing my Armour Class as I can't wear Armour.

I had just realised that, when I chose the name I didn't think about Dr Who. The reason I have gone with the Flesh Chameleon Alternate Racial Trait, is that most of the time I will look Human (with the Human skin tones) so as to not draw too much attention to myself.

@River No, isnt why I have dr who going through head, though that works too.

and those are also good reasons.
"I speak Baby." "No you don't" "I speak everything."

Whack-a-Rogue here. All the crunch/gear/everything's done, so Rogar should be all set. :-)

So far I have:
-Rogar Dwarven Engineer
-Desnold Human Hunter
-Lou Human Painter and Barkeep

?:
Which trait were you changing out?

soon to be joining:

River Calah Undine Historian/Linguist
(Az) Priest
(Marcus) Knight

alright looking good.

IejirIsk:

I would like to see some backstory, what are the little things leading your character to this point.

River was the smallest member of her family, she was also the only girl out of her 8 siblings, so even though she was a girl she didn't act like it. The only thing that gave away her gender when she was younger was her weak body, but she learned that quickly after a couple of scuffs with her brothers. So she learnt how to move quicker and how to dodge the incoming blows, but she was still no boy nor warrior. It was when she was in her 20's that her parents realised that she had a gift, she had a knack for soaking up knowledge ... they had a smart child.

After that moment she was sent to school, which cost her family every penny that they owned, but they were happy; she could get a decent job and get the money back easily enough, and she was happy as she was learning. It was about 15 years of learning when she found it, a young otter cub starving and dying ... she was drawn to it, so she caught some fish and fed the cub. After that she kept on finding herself returning to the cub during her breaks, but she knew she would stand out so she found a way to change the colour of her skin and she started to appear as one of the land-walkers. While she was studying the cub would lay across her shoulders and they build a friendship.

After a couple of years the otter had grown into a young adult, but it still refused to leave her. One day she came to her studies upset; as she had had a quarrel with her family, they wanted her to get a job but she wanted to continue to do her studies. There was a heated discussion and River had left in tears and the first place she had returned to was the little grove with her Otter cub ... it was then that she realised she had never named her friend. She sat there in tears, looking into the Otters through hazy eyes; the Otter was also crying, when it happened, she heard a splash and saw a brother of hers through his spear at the Otter. He was shouting, "Demon, possessor!" and through another one, the Otter ran up to River and climbed on her shoulders cowering. A sudden rage took hold of her and the next thing she knew there was a huge wave ... no not a wave, a tsunami! it crashed into her brother and split before hitting her.

Her brother was dead and the lake was swirling so she dived down to her home and found that her entire village had been wiped out, by the Tsunami. Then she heard it, a squeak ... the Otter was still on her shoulders and ... smiling, she realised that she felt good too. She swam back up to the grove and cried again, "Don't cry, you have to control your anger. You are the spirit of the moon, you control the waters!" River looked around to see who was talking but the only other living thing around was the Otter ... Nah, it couldn't be. "Look for the ruins at the bottom of the lake, the forbidden cave. In there you will find a way to control your powers." Yet again River looked around and this time looked at the Otter, not taking her eyes off of it. "Hello, my name is Arirai, I am here to help you. In the ruin you will find some writings, those writings you will have to read and they will tell you how to control your power, which is why I am here. I have been sent to be a focus for you, to make it easier for you." The Otter was talking to her ... then it went black.

The next thing she knew she was waking up at the bottom of the sea, next to the cave ... was it true, did everything really happen? She looked around, but as she feared her village was gone ... so she went inside and spent the next week learning how to translate the strange writings until she could read it and to her dismay it was only a part of the answer. She returned to the grove where Arirai was waiting, "You have to find the others too, I will lead you" She spent the next few decades of her life finding the ruins and reading their secrets, the last one she found was about a mile off shore from a small town called Sandpoint. Apparently there were only a couple of ruins left to find, but Arirai and River were tired, so they came into the town and headed to the local tavern ... where they both sat down to eat some fish and head up to bed.

If your character could have one wish, what would it be?

That she had not gotten angry that day and caused the Tsunami, She would love to find her family ... if they are still alive.

What does your character believe his strongest strength to be?

River's strongest strengths would be her superior intellect and her ability to heal when in water.

His(or her) greatest weakness.

River's greatest weakness is her frail body and lack of ability to defend herself.

How does your character see himself in the wider world?

River is just a person who has discovered she has a power that she needs to control. Until she can control it completely she see's herself as a threat to all other life in Golorian.

lou is removing Childhood crush trait and picking up Iron Liver trait
don't forget Lou is also a cook. and I took painter as it was closest to sketch artist. one of those guys that sits on the street corner doing sketches of people for cash or for fun.

alright, have those things updated @River, Lou.

So, I take the chance to write a little about the background:

Background:
I would like to see some backstory, what are the little things leading your character to this point.
He was a sworn knight appointed to patrol a borderline of his home nation. To do so, a patrol squad was assigned to him. In what otherwise would be a routine check, a band of raiders (orcs, goblinoids or whatever you think suits) attacked, and the squadron was almost massacred. Of course, he survived.

Marcus ask for being relieved of his post, because he felt that was because his poor commanding abilities that tragedy happened in the first place.

Then, after departing, Marcus wandered for many towns. In one of them, he saw a man standing in the town's square, giving a moving speech (religious, political... your call) to the villagers. The sight of the enraptured people made him understand what he lacks as a commander... the soldiers not only have to understand the orders, they have to want to do so.

So, with his new discovery, Marcus went to [insert big city's name here] and asked to be tutored in the art of rhetorics, in which, after a couple months, discovered a knack for it (sometimes, you only discover your hidden talents when you apply yourself to them). However, since he defected the army, he must find first a new group to lead and regain his honor... not only before his Order, but to himself.

If your character could have one wish, what would it be?

That he could better handle the situation that led him to drop out first. Not only his men would not have died because of him, but Marcus believes that, were it not for that incident, his future would be a life of glory, honor and dignity.

What does your character believe his strongest strength to be?

Marcus's strongest strengths would be his strong will against disadvantage, cunning wordplay and strategic mind in the field of battle.

His greatest weakness.

Marcus's greatest weakness is his overall simplicity, and his fear of failure, which sometimes leads him to reckless acts.

How does your character see himself in the wider world?

As someone who has yet to prove himself as a able battle commander but, aware of his potential, destined to be a force to be reckoned with.

Just wondering ... when is the submission deadline and when will we decide who makes it into the team? I will create my profile once I know whether I am in the team or not, if that is okay?

Well at the moment have 6 showing interest so I can start once I have those done. If ya know someone ellse that wants to join they welcome to. I will probably start this weekend sometime, putting final touches on how I want to tweak things, wording ill probably do tonite. Id rather make choices youve made and backstory useful and interesting.

So is everything looking okay for River then, or should I adjust a few things before creating her profile?

Submitting character sheet for DM approval...
(on the Alias's profile)

alright Marcus, most of it looks good. confused: perception +5 or +6? and did you get a shield?

other than that, looks good.

Corrections done.

-Perception +5
-I got a Heavy Wooden Shield. (+2 to AC)

Here you go, my completed Character Sheet. The only things I have left to do is work out what I want to buy ... if anything.

I see River starting off with no gear, just some money from selling a couple of ancient artifacts. I might buy a spear or something.

Still working on a Cleric. Unsure on whether I want to take Merciful Healer or Crusader.

Alright, Ill be afk til this weekend then ill be ready to go. Az should be done by then.

Crusader of Gorum is almost done. Though he might not be completed until early Sunday.

Really he is just amazing. Though he doesn't come into his own until around Level 5...

Ulrik will be put up some time around Noon on Sunday.

ok finally updated Lou with the correct trait and its description

I am think of buying a Shortspear, Furs and a Belt Pouch for River and that be all. It would work with the feel I have for her.

I shall adjust her profile now and even see if I can place a picture in the appearance section as well as describing her.

Sadly there isn't Image Tags for this Forum. You could always just Link to it. Or we could go to another RP Forum that is awesome for Campaigns.

Welcome in to the Rusty Dragon Inn. Enjoy the festival, enjoy your meal.

Here we go ^_^

Current Alias. This Alias might be used in this and a Song of Ice & Fire PbP.

This is Azaelas Fayth. Still doing all the Math for him.

Hey,

I've got my character profile up and have PM'd you the story info.
