GM Haladir |
Looks like DM Crispy (a.k.a. Halvor) has gone MIA in all of his PbPs, without warning. This includes three games he was GMing, one for more than two years. His last post in any thread was 10/16. I've sent him a PM, but haven't heard back.
Looking in the Discussion threads of his other games, it seems that lots of people have PMed him, and no one has heard back from him.
He doesn't seem to have listed any alternative contact points anywhere. I sincerely hope he's OK.
So-- should we try recruiting a new player? While I'm OK with running Halvor as an NPC for a little while in hopes that Crispy will return sometime soon, past experience indicates that people with Crispy's record who drop out with no warning tend to do so for a very good reason (e.g. motorcycle accident, jail).
So, I have three proposals, and I'd like your input...
1) Keep running with Halvor as an NPC. (I'd probably create a new Halvor alias, as I'd have to level up the character.)
2) Keep running with the current group, with Shalelu as an NPC replacement for the party's front-line fighter.
3) Recruit a new player. If we do this, I'd prefer to reach out to people that one or more of us alrealy know rather than open up the recruitment thread.
Haladir |
I just sent out three recruitment PMs. I've played with two of the players before, and have had excellent discussions with the third.
Here's what I wrote to them...
Hello!
One of the players in my Rise of the Runelords PbP campaign went MIA three weeks ago. We're running a closed recruitment to try to find a replacement player.
I really enjoyed [INSERT POSITIVE INTERACTION] and I was wondering if you'd consider joining our game.
The character with the missing player was a fighter, and the party's only front-line martial character. I'd like to find a replacement character that could fill a similar role.
The party has just returned from its first foray to Thistletop, but didn't get to the actual fortress due to running low on resources fighting a couple of wandering monster encounters on the way there. The PCs have just attained Level 3.
I am sending out similar messages to a handful of other players that I've run with in the past and I think would be a good match for the current group. We do only have one slot, though.
Please let me know if you're interested, and I'll send you the character creation guidelines.

Has it been a year already? It doesn't seem like it!
I hope Crispy is all right. I know how things can happen, I just had a friend go through an extended hospital stay where he was not able to communicate with the outside world for quite a while.
As for the treasure, if we sell the MW steel buckler, bracelet, gem, and flagon, along with his old wooden shield, together with the coins it will total 380gp.
Split 3 ways (Cerin will give his share to start repaying everyone for the flaming scimitar and chip in 1gp to even things out.) each of you would get 127gp.
Cerin would like to keep the MW wooden shield and the wayfinder (which any of us could use, I would actually prefer someone else carry it as Cerin is starting to be overburdened).
GM Haladir |
Looks like I was off by a month.
GM Holden's last post on this campaign was 30-NOV-2014. We realized that he'd abandoned the game in mid-December, and I re-started the game on Christmas Eve.
Krissina/Spinningdice disappeared on 4/11/2015, and we recruited both Gwyn/Adam and Helena/Ronnie in May.
Interestingly, both Holden and Spinningdice seem to be posting again.
Gwynethiel |
Thanks for having us here too! I'm sure this has been said a hundred times already, but I hope Crispy is okay and comes back at some point. He did mention something in one of his games about working through some personal issues, but I don't know if that's why he left or if it was something else.
EDIT:
Just a heads up, I'll probably not be posting much this weekend. My cousin is getting married and I'm in the wedding.
Kyrian Linwood |
Red's posting again? Aw man, that sucks, that could've been some fun times lol.
Anyways, I hope we can get someone, that would be cool to have. I definitely don't mind Shalelu if needed though. As for the loot, that sounds fine to me, although I've still no friggin clue as to how much I still personally have considering a lot of it happened during my absences over this last year. Which hell yeah btw on, nice to see we're still alive and kickin... Mostly... Well... At least 3 of the original 6...
GM Haladir |
I've extended an invitation to Misroi, with whom I've played before in a Paiso PbP. (RPGSS 2014 runner-up Mike Kimmel was our GM, and another player was fellow RPGSS 2014 runner-up Robert Brookes.) He's also a fairly prolific poster on the general boards. I am waiting for his confirmation.
We are cooking up how to introduce his character to the game. I think we have an interesting idea in that light, but I don't want to spoil the surprise...
Misroi |
A wild Misroi appears!
Hey there, folks! Hal graciously invited me to his game, so it looks like I'll be meeting up with you shortly. I'm in the process of reading through the story thus far, which will likely take me a few days. You guys are prolific!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing with you all. And, oh yeah, the introduction should be interesting. Heh heh heh...
Helena the Pale |
Hiya, stranger! Please don't surprise me too much. I hate surprises. (And Helena can be a bit jumpy...)
GM Haladir |
Everyone please...
LEVEL UP!
After tonight's rest, you will all be third-level characters.
As you can see in the Gameplay thread, I would like to add Shalelu to the party line-up for now. I have written a version of Shalelu as a third-level character, equipped as a PC of that level. I am not intending to have her follow you all around forever, but I think you will need the extra hand when you return to Thistletop. Plus, this just works for the stortline and personalities of the NPCs.
Misroi and I have an introduction for his new character in the works that will happen at some point after you return to Thistletop.
Let's go ahead and roleplay any interactions you want to have with each other, Shalelu, and Sheriff Hemlock at the Rusty Dragon, then we can move ahead to the next day.
Gwynethiel |
Fair enough. I was just wondering, and I've always been a curious fellow.
Also, after Thistletop, would there be enough time for some retraining? I'm thinking about switching Gwyn to an Arcanist, since it actually acts more like what I think a wizard should be like if I remember everything right.
GM Haladir |
I usually let players rebuild their PCs once or twice during gameplay. Play the character you want to play. If you are regretting some choices you made earlier, then rebuild. Now would be fine, actually, while you're leveling up. Just don't go too crazy, and please run your changes by me for approval.
Gwynethiel |
Here's Gwyn as an Arcanist. She loses the Flame Jet, but I can get a better version next level. Also, I still want to teach Helena Prestidigitation. I think it'd be fun.
Oh, and we still have Fluff around, which is bound to be interesting. :D

Gwyn: Your re-build as an arcanist looks good.
To keep continuity with your previous build as an elementalist, I'd be okay with letting you take either Flame Arc or School Understanding (Elemental: Fire) as your 3rd-level exploit one level early. (Obviously, you would not be getting another exploit at arcanist level 3.) You've been throwing Fire Jet around as an Elementalist already, and it would be weird in-game to suddenly lose an ability like that.
Kyrian Linwood |
Holy crap that exploded... I'll post later tonight after I level up.
Gwynethiel |
Oh, the School understanding. Yeah I didn't look at that one, but I will. I was actually going to go with Flame arc, then I realized I was going to lose Fluff as a familiar, so yeah. I haven't really been using her for the bonuses, but more as another character, but still, I thought that was a better way to go. I'm cool with getting Flame arc now since that was going to be my next exploit anyway.
:)
Helena the Pale |
I'll have Helena's statblock updated soon. Biggest change is that she's picked up life link. Gwyn, sorry in advance for the distress it may cause :P
Kyrian Linwood |
Okay, I should be good to go. Took the extra skill point this time for some sleight of hand.
GM Haladir |
A reminder of the shops open for business in Sandpoint.
Also: the Treasure List.
Remind me who, if anyone, claimed the two potions and the feather token.
I also wasn't clear what you wanted to do with the materwork steel buckler. (Sell?)
Without selling the buckler, splitting the loot five ways, you each get 60 gp, 2 sp.
If you do sell the bucker, each share goes up to 75 gp, 7 sp.
GM Haladir |
Helena: Would you please update the stat block in your alias? I'd like to have that updated before we get into combat.
Kyrian: I see that you've leveled up on your Myth Weavers page, but haven't updated your alias profile. I would ask that you do so. I regularly make short posts from my phone, and Myth Weavers pages don't seem to render properly on my Windows Phone.
Thanks!
Helena the Pale |
Sorry, GM! Updated now. I'll also buy a healer's kit while I'm out (I know it's not listed under alchemical items, but I like to think Helena, with her low wisdom, succumbed to an impulse buy.)
I can't remember whether we actually made those decisions. I like the idea of Kyrian taking the potion of hide from animals, and Gwyn could probably get up some mischief with the anchor feather token. I'm ambivalent on the buckler.
Haladir |
Gwyn: I think you forgot to list your spellbook in your statblock.
Re:cantrips: I forgot whether or not I mentioned this, but I normally rule that prepared arcane casters start with cantrips from Core Rulebook, plus any additional cantrips on the class spell list in the book in which that class is introduced. Other cantrips can be added later as normal (found/researched/etc).
