Not much, I admit. But hilarious epic disasters are the best kind of epic disaster, so bring it on.
(Note that Gwyn will use Prestidigitation ruthlessly. She will turn your hair pink and give you green skin for an hour if you're not careful.)

Helena the Pale |

I haven't read anything previous to when I started posting there, so it will be a nice surprise =) I expect Helena to have no idea what to make of Kyrian, to be relieved by the steadiness and reliability of Halvor, and to have awkward interactions with Cerinnibert.

Kyrian Linwood |

I'm unsure if there's supposed to be a giggity in there or not... Lmao.

Kyrian Linwood |

Lol

GM Haladir |

And we'll see how Shayliss Vindler reacts to Kyrian flirting with someone else...
Re: Rules stuff...
Background Skills
I'd like to give these a try.
At every level, all PCs gain an additional 2 skill points to spend on background skills. You may spend regular skill points on background skills if you want, but you may not spend background skill points on adventuring skills.
Background skill list:
Appraise
Artistry [-new skill-]
Craft
Handle Animal
Knowledge (engineering)
Knowledge (geography)
Knowledge (history)
Knowledge (nobility)
Linguistics
Lore [-new skill-]
Perform
Profession
Sleight of Hand
[Note that the Knowledge skills that allow you to know stuff about monsters in combat are adventuring skills.]
Lore is a class skill for all characters. Artistry is a class skill for any character with Craft or Perform as a class skill.
Artistry (Int)
You are skilled in the creative arts. Like Perform or Craft, Artistry is a number of separate skills. You may have multiple Artistry skills, each with their own ranks. Artistry represents creating works of art that are not necessarily tangible objects. Common Artistry skills are choreography, criticism, literature (including poetry), music composition, philosophy, and playwriting.
Lore (Int); Trained Only
You have specialized knowledge about a specific topic. Your knowledge is generally much narrower than that of a sage of scholar. Like Artistry, Lore is a catchall skill. You may know Lore about several topics, each with its own ranks. Lore may be about a region (such as a town or forest), a narrow discipline (such as riddles, owlbears, or metallurgy), or a kind of person (such as famous musicians, Chelish naval officers, or Shoanti chieftains). Whenever your topic comes up, you may substitute a Lore check for a more general Knowledge check.
Converting Existing Characters
Everyone is currently Level 2; that means everyone now has 4 Background Skill ranks. If you have already spent skill ranks on what are now background skills, you may consider those background skill ranks already spent on those skills. You may then "trade" these ranks for Adventuring Skill ranks.

Kyrian Linwood |

I don't believe it was ever stated or shown that Kyrian and Shayliss are an exclusive item lol. But moving on, would History and Linguistics be okay with you for me to spend those 4 points in?

Kyrian Linwood |

No worries. I think we can manage. Besides, it'll be entertaining to watch Helena and Gwyn lol.

Gwynethiel |

And Gwyn is updated!
Oh, and since Gwyn and Helena have known each other, I'll be posting things that Helena would know in spoilers so she can react accordingly.
That said, some help talking to the innkeeper would be super.
Ronnie, help!

Helena the Pale |

Also, I'll spend Helena's background skill ranks on Profession (herbalist) and Craft (alchemy). :-)

Sorry for the slow posting rate of late. Life's been a bit busier than usual. Additionally, I used to be able to do long posts from my computer on my lunch hour at work, but now I'm relegated to posting from my phone during the work day. Unfortunately, I can't do any map work from my phone, and writing long posts is tough (and have a high rate of disappearing into the aether). I hope to get a combat map up later tonight, and will be able to move things forward then.

GM Haladir |

Well, I've found a solution on how to post during my lunch hour. I bought my own laptop over the weekend and am bringing it to work with me. I am typing this from the staff lounge!
('Staff lounge" sounds so grandiose... It's really a just break room, but that's what's printed on the door.)
I hope to bring my posting rate back up to where it had been.

I used to be a huge Apple evangelist back in the '90s and early aughts. Then I started working with Apple professionally. They're TERRIBLY ANNOYING. And then they wouldn't replace my iPhone 4S literally the day after the warranty expired for what was clearly a manufacturing defect. I havent bought an Apple product since. Heck, I'm tapping this post on a Lumia 920 running Windows Phone 8.1.
I'd never ordered a Latitude with a personal credit card and with my Gmail address. Odd quirk of their system: When you buy a PC in the Latitude line, you have to enter a business name on both billing and shipping address. So I guess I'm now CEO of Haladir Systems LLC.

Gwynethiel |

Heh, I guess I need to work on the paperwork for RadBox Studios Inc. :D
Honestly, I think Apple's problem is they're too full of themselves. I'm not an Apple evangelist, but I do have to admit that their design in both aesthetics and user experience is pretty darn good. From what you said, though, they have lousy customer support (which I think is endemic to a lot tech companies.)
I work for a company that is in the tech sector, specifically managed services, IT support, and web development. One of the things the owners keep saying is that we should strive to be the Chik-fil-a of IT. We should be so good that people associate us with excellent customer service. I'm just glad I only have to worry about websites. I'll let my co-workers handle calling Dell and Apple. :)
(Sorry for rambling. I tend to do that.)

GM Haladir |

No update today-- I'm spending my lunch hour prepping for the final battle of Book I of my IRL campain "Champions of Old Korvosa," which I'm running tonight.
It's gonna be epic: The PCs are facing a high-level priestess of Urgathoa in a temple to the Pallid Princess built by Krang, the first Runelord of Gluttony! I've got a three-part encounter including a bound leukodaemon, a squadron of Thassilonian "wight knights," a pretty devious trap, and the priestess herself... who will use the petrified heart of Runelord Krang to transform into a Daughter of Urgathoa after the party defeats her!
If we break early, I'll update after tonight's game ends; otherwise tomorrow.

Helena the Pale |

That sounds like one hell of a campaign. I hope it went well! Do you have a campaign journal somewhere?

Kyrian Linwood |

If need be, go ahead and GMPC while I'm at work today.

GM Haladir |

That sounds like one hell of a campaign. I hope it went well! Do you have a campaign journal somewhere?
I did keep a journal for a while at our campaign site at Obsidian Portal, but I didn't have time to keep up with it.
The battle went pretty well so far. I staged it in a big, multi-tiered room with three overlapping encounter areas. The intent was for the PCs to battle each of the APL +3 encounters in sequence, but they surprised me. They did that video game thing where they rushed past the first two encounters, triggering them, then jumping on the third... making one ginormous APL +7 encounter, and a near-certain TPK!
Fortunately, they used a few battlefield control items they'd picked up to separate the groups of baddies so they could try to take them on one at a time. (Including a wand of create pit, a scroll of wall of force, and a one-shot item that creates a circular empowered wall of fire, flames facing in.)
So far, they've killed the leukodaemon and are now facing the "wight knights," as the priestess they're there to defeat watches in curiosity as she hovers invisibly over the battlefield. She'll start summoning monsters soon...
The Set Piece "St. Caspieran's Salvation" from Shadow in the Sky, transplanted from Riddleport to Korvosa.
The PFS scenario, Rise of the Goblin Guild, moved from Magnimar to Korvosa, grafted with "Shingles Chase" from Edge of Anarchy.
A highly modified version of the encounter area "Eel's End" from Edge of Anarchy
A highly modified version of the encounter area "Hungry Are the Dead" from Seven Days to the Grave
A modified version of the PFS scenario Mists of Mwangi, set at the Jeggare Museum
A highly-modified version of the "Thassilonian Laboratories" encounter area from Shards of Sin
Part 4 of The Reaping Stone is an underground wilderness adventure in the Darklands, but I completely cut that out, replacing it with an adventure in the Jeggare Museum and a passage to ancient catacombs beneath the city (my version of "Mists of Mwangi" and "Thassilonian Laboratories.")
I also pulled some individual bits and pieces from here and there, such as the infamous encounter with malfunctioning wards on a clone of Sorshen from Curse of the Lady's Light, and both many traps and the library research system from "Mummy's Mask." And, of course, the final encounter is highly inspired by the one from Seven Days to the Grave.
Now, I need to figure out what to do next! I'm torn between starting Conquest of the Bloodsworn Vale or writing my own urban adventure set back in Korvosa.

Kyrian Linwood |

Yay! I hope things are going well enough for you. I'll post later today when I'm actually awake.

Helena the Pale |

My posting rate will be a bit slow over the next three weeks. My smartphone has met with an unfortunate accident, and I'm using an old piece of crud with no internet connectivity. So no posting for me during workdays, or while I'm at tabletop games, or commuting... you get the idea. Once my contract gives me a free upgrade, I'll be back and swinging! In the meantime, please bot me if I go more then 24 hours without posting in combat.

GM Haladir |

Everything is fine. I'm just very, very busy right now.
I've been working through what's usually my lunch break on weekdays. I'm often not able to get to do personal fun stuff on weeknights until 10:30 or 11:00, and by then I'm usually so tired that I either watch an hour of TV to unwind or just go straight to bed.

Kyrian Linwood |

I don't blame you there at all, I know how that feels for sure lol

Helena the Pale |

It's alright, GM. I'm a patient woman, and as I mentioned up top, my own posting rate's been a lot slower with my lack of a phone.

Kyrian Linwood |

Dun dun DUUNNN!!! Lol, couldn't help it. Am I conscious with the healing then I take it?
