Well, it might have been quite a bit longer before my next GM post... I almost got arrested today!
Bonehead move #1: I forgot that in DC, entering just about any public building requires a security screening. I normally carry a Swiss Army knife and a Leatherman, and did not think NOT to carry them as usual today.
Consequently, I couldn't get through security screening at the National Archives Museum. Both of these tools have sentimental value, so I didn't want them to be confiscated. I asked the security guard what I should do, thinking that they may have some kind of item check system.
Bonehead move #2: Failing to recognize that the guard's reply of, "Well, you could go outside and hide them in a planter or something, then come back in," was NOT good advice.
Let's just say that I'm glad that the DC Metro police officer who challenged me with "SIR!! What did you just put in that planter?!" merely took my name, gave me back my knives, and let me off with a "OK, I'm not going to arrest you, but get the hell out of here!"
I obliged.
Just a heads up, I won't be posting Friday or Saturday. My younger cousin is graduating from college. :)
On a completely unrelated note...
My Tuesday night IRL campaign ended back in February, and I started playing in a new group. We're running a fantasy game using the Dungeon World rules: a rules-light game system which focuses on narrative and communal storytelling rather than character "builds" and tactical combat. The mechanics of creating a character takes about two minutes, while the important stuff is backstory and narrative connections with the other PCs.
I've been contemplating how to translate this system to the play-by-post format. The more I think about it, the more interested I am in attempting a short Dungeon World PbP adventure, set in Golarion, just to see how it would work.
I am considering using the module Murder's Mark as inspiration for the storyline. The adventure format is open and a bit of a sandbox, with a minimum of dungeon exploration, which puts it very much in line with Dungeon World adventure design.
I'm honestly not sure how well this would translate to the PbP format, and I'm relatively new to the Dungeon World rules. I've been playing in a DW campaign for about two months, and I have not yet attempted to GM the system. Consequently, I'm inclined to do a closed recruitment with people I already know on the boards-- people I know will be happy to learn the system along with me.
Would anyone be interested in trying out a PbP adventure using the Dungeon World ruleset?

I am currently playing in 9 games and I'm stretched a bit thin as it is. I've actually been debating on whether or not I might have to bow out of one of the games I am currently in (not this one, of course, this is one of my favorites!).

I've played in a DW campaign briefly here on the boards. It actually does really well in PBP.
The last time I tried a Dungeon World PBP, I'd wake up every morning to 30+ posts with no clue what to do... in combat. It simply doesn't work for large differences in time zones, being so freeform.
I'm am going out of town for a few days. It will probably be Monday before my next post.
I'm sorry for my absence. A few things have come up that have made it difficult for me to maintain focus and get into character. My ex has continued harassing me, including sending a string of rather explicit messages, and it's escalated to the point where police involvement sounds like the way to go.
On a lighter note, I've also been getting ready for my first solo overseas trip, which brings its own set of stresses. I'm trying to get my head back in the game, but right now, I'm scattered and not feeling particularly safe, so I'd appreciate your patience.
Jesus. I'm sorry to hear that, Helena. Take care of yourself, and surround yourself with people to protect you. It sounds like a trip overseas is exactly what you need.

The trip really is what I need. I mean, getting everything organized is stressful, and the flights from Adelaide to Denver will kill me, but I hear Colorado is beautiful.
Excellent! Out of curiosity, when will you be in Denver? I ask because my wife and I will be in Denver next weekend. We've never been there before either.
I don't touch down until the evening of the 27th. It's thirty-four hours including layovers... Uuuuuuugh.

Sounds like we'll miss each other. I was going to suggest meeting for a cup of coffee or a beer if we were going to be there at the same time. So far, I have not met any Paizo board friends IRL.
That is a long flight! My daughter flew straight from New York City to Mumbai last summer, and will be doing the reverse in a few weeks. She said it was pretty grueling, but she bounced back from jetlag in only a few days. My longest flight was Syracuse NY to London. With the layover in Philadelphia, it was only about eight hours.
I've heard amazing things about Denver. Let me ask a friend who visits it regularly about places you should visit/eat/drink/experience while you're there. How long will you be there?
It's a funny story, I'll only be in Denver for two nights. The rest of the time, I'll be staying with my boyfriend, who lives on the other side of the mountains, and who I met through the forums. (No 'stranger danger' or safety rants, please; I've had plenty from family, and I've taken plenty of steps to ensure my safety if things go FUBAR.) So it's a HUGE thing, but hey - I'm young, I called off an engagement, and this is going to be my big, reckless thing :P
But yeah, my flight plan is Adelaide to Auckland, New Zealand, one hour layover, Auckland to Los Angeles, five hour layover, then LA to Denver. The first night will be the ultimate relationship test, because I will be trashed.

I have never flown through LAX, and don't know the specific facilities available... But with a 5-hour layover, I'd recommend that you look into buying a day-pass to a travelers' lounge: whether your airline's club lounge or an independent public lounge. Those are MUCH more comfortable than sitting around airport itself, and many club lounges have showers and comfortable charis and secluded spaces where you can safely take a nap. Plus, you can ask the concierge at the club to check on you half an hour before your flight boards to make sure you're up and heading toward the gate on time.
An airline club lounge day-pass usually runs $30-60, depending on the airline and available facilities.
LAX will be the worst of it, since I'm going from international to domestic. Fun. The advice I've been given is "if you get lost, find someone with a badge and a gun" (by my father). Last time I went through LAX it was with family, and oh boy. Ohhhhhhh boy. It's not a fun place.
I hadn't even considered a traveler's lounge. That's a good idea; god knows I'll need a shower and a coffee before flying to Denver. Cheers for the tip!
I had to switch from international to domestic in Philadelphia last time I flew home from the UK. It was really annoying. Even as a US citizen!
