At the ultimate moment, as the sea swept across the deck and Burian’s fingers slipped off the railing, something shifted under the ships keel.
The wind dropped suddenly and Burian fell onto a hard rubbery surface. Sprawling there, he looked up at the ships quarterdeck windows, and beyond that…
Next to the ship, something like a grey scaly cliff rose out of the sea swells. Up and up it rose, until out of the water climbed an eye the size of a house. Vertically slit, cold and remote, it gazed upon you all as god might gaze upon an ant he was considering smiting.
The ship, the air, the very universe vibrated around you as you heard it declaim:
"NO TRIBUTE NO PASSAGE"
Then you hear the sound of splintering wood as you are smashed into unconsciousness…
