just curious on this, how is the alien archive chronicle handled on-line?
it requires each GM to initial it when you play a scenario.
We have suggested a method to Thurston, which he wanted to discuss with Tonya. We have not received an answer yet.
While we are waiting I want to ask each player to keep track of the different scenarios played and fill them in on your own chronicle.

I've been instructing players to initial it on my behalf, and save a copy of the PM/post with me giving them explicit permission to do so in case someone wants to audit.

Where do we actually get this sheet? I'd like to start getting credit for my online games played.

Link to boon
Thanks! Is this different from the Mega-Region boons they announced in the recent blog post?
Magabeus
Yes it is, the mega region boons will be handed out at conventions to GMs, the alien archive boon is for players for playing in different SFS scenarios.
Kai Starchaser

Ah, okay, so you can only get the region boon by attending a convention.

Quick question...is SFS 01 the commencement an evergreen? Can I play it again with a different character and still receive credit?

Yes it is and yes you can

It seems our GM is missing in action - he has not posted in about two weeks. He was running the Dead Suns AP for us. We're not that far in yet. Would anyone be so kind as to pick up the game for us? Even if it's just to finish out Book 1? The discussion thread is here. We've got a great group of players!

@Starfinder GM Red - I can run the end of Book 1 for you.
But I can wait in case you want someone to pick up the entire run for you?

Looking to run an SFS PbP table soon, but wanted to get some hive-mind wisdom first. Do any of you SFS GMs feel like you've settled on a good way to run starship combat in PbP? It's simple enough F2F, but I feel like it will be liable to lag in PbP, due to the multiple phases. I know there was a lot of discussion on here, but I don't remember seeing much of a consensus. I would love to hear any advice for that aspect you've come up with thus far, either here or via PM. Thanks!

I like to have everyone post at once. Then the GM posts. It's a lot of work, in a short amount of time, for the GM, but takes about 1/3 the time.
You roll initiative for the pilot, then resolve both turns. Negatives of this method are: The captain can see the rolls before affecting them and sometimes the gunners have range/facing issues.
Overall, it's my favorite so far.

I've also seen a similar method to that where the GM rolls intiatives first and moves the enemy if needed. I really does move combat along much faster, but also makes more work for the GM.

Have another question regarding the Alien Archive boon. I played in 3 scenarios that all qualify for this boon via PbP..before this boon was released. I know I can get credit for them all However: [i] is it necessary for me to fill out the pdf, scan it and create a new pdf with my info on it and the scenarios i played, send the filled out pdf to each of the 3 different GMs, have them initial near the game they Gm'd one at a time, then have them scan it create a pdf, send it back to me?
My thought on this...since it's online play; (particularly PbP) couldn't we just contact the GMs and if they ok it, have a venture officer sign off all at once?...Is there an easier way to get these three signatures that's eluding me? Would putting them in a google shared folder and giving permissions to edit file suffice? (that way I could just send a link each GM could type his initials next to the scenario he or she ran)
What's the quick solution here?
Shifty
We've been going back and forth swapping sheets.
For what its worth, I have been happy for the players to initial on my behalf if they have pm'd me. They can keep a copy of the PM exchange and their played session history printout to provide evidence.
Whilst this is not official, the official system says that a GM could mark their box with a stamp or anything else, which could equally mean finger painting in the box with spaghetti.
This PDF swapping thing is just so painful otherwise.

I shall now demand that my players finger paint in the box with spaghetti. I will also require evidence that linguine or fettuccine were not used as a substitute.

The quick solution here is that you fill in the sheet. You have the underlying chronicles to proof that you played the games. Once you want to apply the race boon to a new character you ask your last GM to fill in the bottom bit of the sheet. You should also send him/her links to your chronicles so those can be checked. That way there is no back and forth, which is indeed annoying.

So I have been pondering Space Combat for PbP and have come up with the following Idea
This is from running many times from table top, especially the quest with new people.
This should work well till level 6 until players can spend resolve points for push actions.
Thoughts and comments from those that have run PbP Space combat?

My current favourite method for PbP is to dispense with the phases in each round and for the GM to roll piloting initiative for both sides. If the GM rolls lower initiative then s/he can also perform movement plus stunts for the enemy ship.
Then the players can post their captain, engineering, science officer + stunt check and movement. Gunnery checks can also be made if both sides have moved. Now the GM can jump in with enemy movement + stunts if still needed.
This seems to get it closest to standard combat flow and doesn’t require to many additional inputs from the GM or players. It’s not perfect but it’s close I think.
GM Stargin
I've settled on rolling initiative for both pilots at the top of the round. If the players win then I move the enemy ships and then let them hash out everything they'll do. If the players lose then there's an extra step where the pilot has to move before I do and then they can proceed with the rest of it.
It's alright.
GM Blake
Yeah, I had a whole system in place because I thought it would be rough, but it's not. No worse thsn regular combat.
The best way I've seen that doesn't take the rolls away from the PCs is by Arendor.
GM rolls NPC piloting initiative and prompts Pilot to roll PC initiative.
Winner goes (if NPC, PCs are promoted when to act).
PC side does all their actions and moves all together.
Pilot rolls PC's next initiative with all the other things during the turn.
GM rolls NPC attacks and rolls NPC's next initiative.
Repeat.
All of which is basically the way it goes on the table top.

On a slightly different note, I don't suppose our VC or VLs could pass back some feedback to the good folk at Paizo?
I've just finished a 01-05 session, and in filling in chronicles, two of the six characters have already got reputation with four factions, and another was up to three.
Can we request an extra line of faction reputations down the bottom of future chronicles, as I imagine this will only get worse over time. An Exo-guardian doing 3, 5 and 7 would have reputation will five factions by the time they hit 2nd level... and there is only space for three.

Wait are we supposed to include all of the player's reputation? I thought that was for the reputation they accumulated that scenario. If it is, three should be enough (unless someone had a boon that lets them take a second champion boon in a scenario like 1-05 that gives two faction bonuses...)

★ - ANNOUNCEMENT - ★
Chris Marsh, aka Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard & Dungeon Master S, is currently a face-to-face Venture Lieutenant in New Hampshire. However, we’ve been borrowing him as one of our online organizers for quite some time. He started Castamir’s Flaxseed Station, and has been an adviser and helper on dozens of online projects. Now with the blessing of his VC and Tonya, he will be joining us here as a Venture Lieutenant alongside Magabeus. Goodness knows we have work aplenty here, and can use the help!
Will everyone take a moment to welcome Chris Marsh officially as an online Venture Lieutenant?
Hmm
PS Cross-posted from Flaxseed Lodge.

By no means an expert, but, yeah, I thought those were just for the Factions that had changes to the values.
If I was an Exo-Guardian doing 1-05 and somehow had a point of Fame in, say, Wayfinders, I would not put Wayfinders +0 on the 1-05 Chronicle.
EDIT: I forgot the very important and meaning changing word "not" in there.

@Sedoriku - I assume it is for all, otherwise tracking it becomes a burden. "When was the last time I played a scenario that gave me Wayfinder Rep... let me go check.."

Side note - 1-05 'Mandate is rapidly looking like becoming one of my favourite PbP Scenarios for SFS.

I think I might need to get in on a table as a player somewhere then before I run it!

Hey guys, I just want to make sure it's clear that GMs are not to add extra tables to the OutPost spreadsheet without approval from one of the online VOs. We can all be reached by PM if there's a table you want added that you think is consistent with the goals of OutPost.

Hi - I would like to GM a SFS adventure during outpost. i’ve never GM’d before but its something I’ve wanted to do and I would put a lot into it. I’m pretty new to PF/SF but keen to learn as I go along, I’ve signed up on the online outpost form but the spreadsheet says I need permission to create a game - do I just wait for someone to get in touch now?

Welcome Darren!
It's great you're wanting to GM! Seeing as it's your first time, if you haven't already, I'd highly (the highest of highly) recommend you take a look at our valiant Venture Captain GM Hmm's amazing PbP GM kit!
It has a ton of useful information about how to run a good game in this format.
Also if you filled out the GM application document, you should be able to put your name in an open GM field in the spreadsheet. When I looked a few hours ago there was a couple of SFS games still open!
Finally, once more, welcome! It's good to see new faces.

Is there a "one-stop shop" that explains how the race boons work in Starfinder?
I know that I can mark games *played* on an Alien Archives boon sheet to unlock a few races that way. Can I also mark games I've GMed on that boon sheet?
Separately, as a GM I'm supposed to get access to racial boons. Is that only when I GM at a con? Or should I be eligible for those boons just for running a game online/at a game shop/in my kitchen?
