If magic were real, which spell would you choose to learn first?

+1 for clone. All the fun of immortality with the added benefit of being able to just stop making clones if you ever do tire of living. All the opportunities to be young and go wild. All the opportunities to be old and build business or political empires. Spend one life as a teacher. Say screw it and spend the next one trying to be an accomplished athlete. You'd forget more than most living people would ever remember, your past lives eventually becoming vague memories and deja vu. You can always try again. A comforting notion: the game never ends, the play never stops, but you can always don a new costume. Also, tragic accidental death and terminal sickness are just non issues.

Edit: oops, 5e is where the clone can be made to be a younger version of yourself, shoot. P2E says the clone is physically identical. That hampers my plans a bit. Curse you paizo, I wanna take the loooooong journey to Nirvana!

I don't think that's the spell you really want.

You can target yourself with Baleful Polymorph if you want, right?

No, it's definitely the one that's human to dragon for 12 hours at a time. 10 minutes per caster level is too short.

10 minutes per level means you have a short rampage before you turn back and someone shoots you.

12 Hrs means you can rampage, evade the police and military, and then find a place to hide out. Flight and being big enough to tackle a helicopter really gives you a lot of options.

Who's turning into a dragon to rampage? That's a premium loafing body right there, don't waste big lizard time on violence when you could be basking in the sun on any remote island of your choosing.

I've got both on the to-do list.

Telekinetic Maneuver seems like it could be a lot of fun without risking serious harm or injury.

raise dead

the reason is so obvious i don't think its needs explanation

Living as I am in an island, Water Breathing for sure.

I have been watching a couple of Episodes of Shadow and Bone. Which does have magic mixed in with Victorian era technology including guns. The wizards with fire and other short range powers are not doing well.
One of the characters remarked after seeing a caster kill a person at 2 dozen paces with magic - stupid as other people where dying from guns at greater ranges in the same battle.
But otherwise seems very good world building so far.

Yep... Let alone they have gatling guns. Watched the season this weekend and it was pretty good: Kind of like air bender with Russian cassocks, Norse 'witch' hunters and guns.

I have to say, people in that world seem to be able to take a LOT of damage. Stabbed, shot, mauled, shot again but with an arrow and just walk it off. ;)

They have bullet proof vests and healing ...

Only the 'benders' have the cool bullet proof suits and there aren't many true healers [there are some tailors that close wounds and deal with cosmetics]. I don't want to spoil things but 2 people really get beat up and one of them doesn't have the cool suit. ;)

^They must have a lot of hit dice . . . .

The highest level summoning spells could give access to a lot of spellcasting, plus skills, offense defense and transportation.
The rituals that let you animate objects or awaken animals and plants appeal to me as well.
Anything that make permanent changes in the world is cool as hell.

Create Demiplane seems like a great one to me. Hide out, hang out, store your stuff, live off the grid, etc.

I'm not seeing a downside.

not having plane shift to return to/from your demiplane is the downside.

I take my answer back, I really just want Suggestion to force myself to do things that I want to do which obviously benefit me. Go to hell, ADHD.

Hey, wait a minute, where's my real-life scroll of Nap Stack?

Edit: I guess our world must be 2nd Edition or later -- Nap Stack doesn't exist in 2nd Edition.

I'm still waiting for someone to say power word kill.

Well, one person wants to polymorph into a dragon and rampage, isn't that sociopathic enough?

^Probably also more effective.
