Well around here it has dropped below freezing and there is snow on the ground. If that doesn't get you in the mood for some Reign of Winter action I do not know what would!
Welcome, I am the Squirrel Ninja! I am looking for four brave souls that are interested in playing through the Reign of Winter AP to completion.
Stats: 15 point buy. I do follow aging rules and have a personal soft spot for the elderly wizard.
Races: Core, archetypes are welcomed.
Classes: All, minus the occult classes. My in person gaming group has never delved into that realm so I know nothing about them. Archetypes are welcomed.
Traits: 2 and one must be from the RoW Player's Guide. I will allow a drawback for an extra trait. But, all of your traits and the drawback must be built into the character.
Starting Gold: Max +50. Buy what your character would need in their daily life. You never know when you are going to need that mirror, fishing lure, and false-bottom cup.
Alignments: I am open to all alignments. This is a team game and as in real life if a person isn't working well on the team they can get let go. The same goes for your PC.
Background: Who are you? Why are you in the village of Heldren? How did you become more than the common commoner? Please tie in your Traits and Drawback if you took one.
That should be all for now. Please ask any questions you might have.

DM Squirrel Ninja RoW |

In chance you would be interested in adopting a Reign of Winter game?
I would have to think about that one... I have never taken over a game before. I am going to shoot you a PM.
I’m getting settled into a new campaign and getting a feel for what the post rate is like. If it’s really active I probably won’t apply here, but if its kind of slow I’ll most likely submit something. I’m not entirely sure what I’d submit but probably some kind of caster?
Sounds good. I completely understand. You do bring up a good point about posting. I would like to have one post per week day and one post per weekend. Now if posting happened more frequently I would be ok with that.

DM Squirrel Ninja RoW |

DM, how much have you played or run PbP?
Great question! I have been here on Paizo off and on for a very long time. I have ran several single shot modules and even a few modules that run into each other. Never any APs.
I have also played a bit, but typically the games crash for whatever reasons and I decide to start running a game instead.
Question- how long are you planning to run recruitment for?
Recruitment will only be a week. Submissions will be accepted through 1/7/19 and I will take a final look over the PCs at that point.
@Coinshot an alias on here would be perfect. I am unsure what the Myth-weaver type is.
@Thanion Aeraviel Sounds good. I have had a player in my weekly playgroup play a Magus Kensai Bladebound and things got a little silly with it. I am ok with you going that route as long as you don't go game breaking OP on the group. I only say that because I see similar things in the build that could suggest that.

DM Squirrel Ninja RoW |

@Thanion Aeraviel The character was based on a build the guy found and was significantly outpacing the rest of the party who build more on concept and RP. Maybe game breaking is the wrong term, but was causing frustrations on the combat field. I am cool with you going the Magus Kensai route, just not the OP Boards version.
Grankless Oh my... how did I miss that. Your characters would know nothing about where this first AP takes you. For those who might not know, Heldren is in Taldor. So no real need for a fur coat and snowshoes... The extra 50 gold is to purchase the adventuring gear that typically don't make the starting list because you don't quite have enough coin to purchase them.
For All: Grankless brings up a good point. I am totally cool with having people who have played parts, all of, or even ran this AP. I would expect everyone to play their character and what their character knows, and react in any situation that comes up based upon that knowledge.

Grankless |

Thinking of bringing an Asmodean Cleric in town as a circuit lawyer to solve some dispute or another.
1. Thoughts on summoning builds? It IS PBP so it won't making things quite as miserable as F2F.
2. Any optional rules in play ie Background Skills? If not that's fine, I'll just pump INT a bit more for Profession Barrister.

DM Squirrel Ninja RoW |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

@Grankless I am cool with summoning builds. I gave them a look, and I am cool with the background skills. But I would say to pick skills that help enhance your background.
Stats: 15 point buy. I do follow aging rules and have a personal soft spot for the elderly wizard.

Alignments: I am open to all alignments. This is a team game and as in real life if a person isn't working well on the team they can get let go. The same goes for your PC.
Background skills: I will allow background skills, but use them to help enhance your characters background.
Background: Who are you? Why are you in the village of Heldren? How did you become more than the common commoner? Please tie in your background skills, Traits and Drawback if you took one.
Posting Rates: I know life happens, but I would love to see a pace of 1 post per week day and 1 post a weekend. If people post more than that, that is cool.
Submission Deadline: Submissions must be in by 1/7/19 for my final decision on the party.

Grankless |

Fantastic to hear. Now I don't feel shoehorned in to being human! :P
Also, is that supposed to be an 11/7/19?
I'm going to put the initial build in to Mythweavers just for my own organizational needs (it's an online sheet builder), then move everything on to the alias for ease of consumption.
Other weird question... RAW it's unclear if Asmodean Advocate and Evangelist can stack. AA specifies you can only have one domain and it must be Trickery; Evangelist just limits you to one domain. I'll 100% understand if you don't want to allow it since it's RAW (and boy will that be a lot of buffs for me to track) but it's good to know beforehand.

DM Squirrel Ninja RoW |

@Zefig sounds good! Because party makeup is always different you running and reading in the past is ok in my books.
@Grankless if my understanding of archetypes is correct, those two would not be able to stack. It is more because they each alter the domain class ability and less of how they alter the domain class ability.
Now, if there is some official errata from the powers that be that says otherwise I am 100% open to that.
And yes... 11/7/19 will be the submission cutoff... I really there was a way to go back and edit/update post.

Torgald Frostbeard |

Introducing Torgald Frostbeard! A Gloomblade Fighter VMC Void Wizard. He creates weapons out of ice to fight with. I was going to make a Kinetic Knight...but with no occult allowed this is the best I could do.
And I Second Feat Tax rules. 15 point buy and age already gives enough of a boon to casters. Us fighty-types could use some help.
Also Background incoming.

DM Squirrel Ninja RoW |

In short, I don't use the Feat Tax rules or whatever it is called.
Even though I understand the concept behind feat tax I don't believe in it. It does simplify the tech trees, but it is at the sacrifice of characters being specialized. Take the Fighter as an example, if all classes with a +1 BAB can get easy access to these feats, what it the point of a fighter?

Papa-DRB |

Dotting for interest.
I will work on an Eldritch Scoundrel.

edit:
The extra 50 gold is to purchase the adventuring gear that typically don't make the starting list because you don't quite have enough coin to purchase them.
Apologies if this is obvious, but I don't understand this statement.
Does this mean that the character gets an additional 50gp over and above the normal starting gold? If it is over and above, how do we calculate the starting gold (max, average, other)?

It seems to me you get the max for your class, then add an extra 50gp.
Also, dot. :)

Starting gold is max gold for class plus an extra 50 gold

Giant Halfling |

I see Torgald is hoping/planning to use variant multiclassing... I haven’t seen that mentioned either way by the GM, is that an approved option?
edit: Also, I just noticed that the online version of the scarred witch doctor is way different than the version in the book... can I use the book version if I decide to go that route?

Giant Halfling |

Half-orcs count as orcs, thanks to the ‘orc-blood’ racial quality, so they can take it (just like half-elves can take elvish archetypes). If it was an errata, though, I’ll read over the new version. I wasn’t married to that idea either way, but I am thinking pretty seriously about submitting some kind of witch...

Looks like one big thing was they went from CON casting to INT casting. Which makes sense because they still needed INT for extra spells with the originally printed version.
And yes you are correct with the blooded racial traits.

Lanton is broad and slightly taller than average. He has bright green eyes and a hairy chest. With a look between a scholarly gentleman and a hairy lumber jack, Lanton's appearance and personality perfectly reflect one another. His wide facial feature and pointed jawline portray a feline nature. Often wearing his hair at shoulder length, he can often be found sporting facial hair.
Raised in the town of Sandpoint Lanton IV's father was a librarian and would be academic. Relenting his own academic failures Lanton III raise his son to be a scholar. For much of his youth Lanton the IV submitted to his fathers requests and studied hard learning math, science, magical theory, history, and astronomy. Upon reaching adolescence Lanton realized that although he loved to learn and to read, but that somehow being an academic could never fulfill him. Retaining burying this knowledge Lanton continued on this path. However rather than studying everything he focused on the subjects he loved the most, Astronomy. Learning much about the subject he often used it as an excuse to go stargazing. With a passion for stargazing and having exhausted much of the knowledge about astronomy in existence, Lanton strayed into the area of astrology.
Upon reaching the age of 18 he gave up on much of his study and disappointingly settled into his fathers occupation of librarian, to take up stargazing as much as possible. One night while stargazing he was blessed by the goddess Desna with the powers of an oracle.
Soon after receiving his blessing he left his home town to wander go where the stars led him. Sometime later, shortly before reaching the town Kenebres he remembered something he once read about in a book, the northern lights. He remembered how when he was a kid he would always dream about seeing them. Thinking he might want to fulfill this childhood dream he decided he should go north and see them for himself.

I did play in a Reign of Winter but we didn't finish it and I can't remember the plot!
Here is the character I'm working on: Calvus Hellensis. A Sylph Slayer.

Giant Halfling |

So, after spending some more time looking over things, I’m abandoning the scarred witch doctor idea. I have two new ideas I’m trying to decide between: a Varisian cartomancer witch, or a handsome (and licentious) virtuous bravo Paladin of Arshea. Does anyone have any objections to a paladin? It looks, at first glance, like there might be some tension between one and an asmodean (though at least they could agree on the importance of following the law)? DM- do either of those seem particularly interesting or problematic to you?

TRAITS
Seeker:
You are always on the lookout for reward and danger.
Benefits: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Perception checks, and Perception is always a class skill for you.
Northern Ancestry: One of your parents came from the North, and the tales of the frozen lands at the top of the world that you grew up listening to excited your imagination. Alternatively, maybe one of your ancestors passed on the blood of some frost-rimed creature. You feel most alive during the chill of winter, and as a child, you spent hours playing in the snow. You rarely feel the cold, and you’ve always had a restless longing to travel north. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Fortitude saves, as well as cold resistance 2; this resistance does not stack with cold resistance gained from any other source.
Skills +7 Bluff, +6 Knowledge (arcana), +2 Linguistics, +1 Perception, +6 Spellcraft
Languages Common, Hallit, Skald
Items: dagger, potion of cure light wounds
--------------------
Special Abilities
--------------------
Bloodline Arcana: Whenever you cast a spell that deals energy damage, you can change the type of damage to match the type of your bloodline. This also changes the spell’s type to match the type of your bloodline.
Bloodline Powers: One of the four elements infuses your being, and you can draw upon its power in times of need. At first level, you must select one of the four elements: air, earth, fire, or water. This choice cannot be changed. A number of your abilities grant resistances and deal damage based on your element, as noted on Table: Elemental Bloodline Energy Types and Movement.
Elemental Ray (Sp): Starting at 1st level, you can unleash an elemental ray as a standard action, targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. This ray deals 1d6 points of damage of your energy type + 1 for every two sorcerer levels you possess. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.
Background:
Joas is a human with the unusual gift of magic coursing through his veins. This is credited with his grandmother being a sylph. While he gained powerful magic without the need for spell components, this made the majority of folks suspicious. His Ulfen ancestors were much small than than counterparts and their unique magic made them targets for the winter witches. They successfully fled to Taldor, where they stay to this day. His parents currently live in nearby Zimar, where he left to strike it out on his own. An unfortunate run in with bandits left him stranded in Heldren. He hopes to earn his money back through various meager jobs. Little did he know that certain circumstances would being him back to his old home.
Joas is rather skittish and nervous around strangers, but opens up once he gets to know people more. Rather talented with the arcane, he ultimately wishes to live a life where he is accepted.

Sha'ir |

Oops! He is now a very sad Half-Orc. I would like to take the Stigmatized Drawback and the Vagabond Child trait. I think they go well together.

Giant Halfling |

So, it’s a Dex-based-Paladin off, huh?
I think the RP between a paladin of Arshea and one of Shelyn could actually be really fun/interesting but I suspect we’d probably just be competing for the same spot in the party... (of course, the same could probably be said about the witch and any of the various other arcane caster submissions)

trawets71 |

Here is my submission Trawets Aarock. He is based on my first ever D&D character back in 2ED. He's started RoW twice but hasn't made it to the 2nd book.

Nephits |

Tentatively dotting;
I'm looking at a Human Ranger. He was a woodsman whose wife was/is a witch and his daughter has been stolen away by witches. He blames his wife (whether she was complicit or not) but has left their lodge in the snowy wilds and is now on the hunt for his daughter and revenge.
He'll primarily use a Bow but also have hand axes.
Traits:
Vigilante Witch Hunter trait from ROW
Winter Warrior (Irresen)
Winter Witchcraft Survivor
Drawback
either Impatient or Doubt
Are the traits too on the nose?
Also, are there any suggestions as to favoured enemy?

Anthorg |

Oh man, I was thinking of submitting a pyromaniac. I figured a cold setting asks for one. But I won't be stepping on your toes. Time to put together the bard that was my 2nd choice.
