Everything sounds good to me!
What races are you allowing? I normally just go human, but I'm curious how you're handling races for an FF8 world.
Divine spells has always been open to non-deities as far as I know, so I'm good with that.

GM Nine-Tuiles wrote: Oh man, good question. All right, so, taking a few things into account here:
-The Gunblade is seen as a rare weapon to use—Cid mentions that not only has he been lacking in Gunblade specialists, but he’s excited to have one. That makes the Gunblade an exotic weapon in my book! Squall has EWP (Gunblade).
-Without GFs, Squall’s strategy (Limit Breaks included) comes down to: hit it hard, many times, crit often if not always. We’re definitely looking at a martial class, or at most, a mixed class with a heavy martial bent (such as the Magus).
-With GFs junctioned, he (and all PCs) are top variable, so I’m going to limit it to Stuff He Definitely Does By Canon.
-The stuff Squall does on his first day (wakes up in the infirmary, attends class, fights and defeats a GF with aid from an instructor and possibly a GF, gets on a sub, helps oust professional Galbadian soldiers en masse, several monsters, two Galbadian officers, aNOTHER monster, successfully holds his own against the Spider Mech whether he retreats or destroys it, and reaches the evacuation point within the time limit) is not remarked upon as being beyond SeeD standards; we have to assume this is normal, if promising.
If we assume a Galbadian Soldier is a Level 1 Warrior, and Squall goes through groups of them like butter with, at most, a 3-person party, I’d say Squall is probably about Level 3—just at the point where martial classes start getting properly Fancy, hitting more often than not, etc. (especially with his 255% accuracy!)
So I’d have to think about his actual class a bit, but he’s definitely a 2H wielder with high STR. He’s no slouch in any of his stats, to be completely honest (except CHA—being honest, I think it’s his dump stat).
But a PC is more than their weapon, class, and Attributes. There’s also Skills to consider!
Squall shows himself to be generally knowledgeable (Knowledge Arcana or Planes for sure, probably Local and Geography), acrobatic enough to make significant leaps, and probably has some other skills...
Awesome breakdown, and thanks for going over your thought process. Makes sense to me!
Dotting while I think up of character ideas. Curiously, if you had to build Squall around the beginning of the game, what do you think his class/level is like? Just to give me an idea of how you see the game I guess.
Sebecloki wrote: I'm still finalizing the rules for familiars and other 'buddies' -- I'll try to post that in the next day or so. What's the issue with the "buddy" rules as of now?
Vrog Skyreaver wrote: Not that I particularly care either way, but I think I should point out that if you are to apply that logic to Foe-Biter, you wouldn't be able to use anything that modified a "basic" attack on it, including sneak attack, power attack, vital strike, two-weapon fighting, etc. I don't think that's the intent based on reading the ability and I kinda doubt that is the interpretation of the ability you'd want to argue for, but I could be wrong. Fair point!

Monkeygod wrote: Ah, no. Not at all.
I'm not sure how you keep missing this. Foe-biting doubles everything.
Let's say you have Improved Vital Strike, 6d6 sneak attack, Flaming and Shock on a +3 longsword, and +43 base damage(+20 strength, +10 dex, +10 int via mythic weapon finesse).
If you then add in foe biting, that becomes 6d8 weapon damage(3d8 for IMV, then doubled), 12d6 sneak attack, 2d6 fire, 2d6 electricity, and +86 base damage.
If you then score a crit, that's 9d8 weapon damage, 18d6 sneak attack, 3d6 fire, 3d6 electricity, and +129 base damage.
This gets even more ridiculous if you add in Mythic Vital Strike, and higher than x2 weapon.
This isn't including any other more complicated bonuses to damage, buffs from self/allies, and anything else I might be missing.
There's nothing in Foe-Biting that says it overrides Pathfinder's rule of how doubling works. In Pathfinder if something goes from x3 gets doubled, it becomes x4, not x6. That's always been my understanding anyway, and also what I find from the first few results on Google.
It also still requires burning 1 MP to add that extra damage, which is about the same as burning 1 MP from getting a basic extra attack that all Mythic can get access to. That doesn't even go into the fact that Foe-Biting specifically states it works on "normal" attacks, which a Vital Strike is not, so it could be argued that it wouldn't work there.
Sebecloki wrote: Just a reminder folks that I haven't made a ruling on this issue yet. Thank you for the link, monkey, I will have a look at those suggestions and make a decision about them, including foe-biting. My 2 cents on foe-biting. It costs 1 Mythic Power to use per hit, so it would take multiple uses to make it really strong which would quickly drain Mythic Power. Where it can be devastating is if it's used in combo with something like crits or Mythic Vital Strike, but even then you're still bound by Pathfinder's multiples rules, where if Improved Vital Strike is x3, then Foe-Biting would sorta make it x4 (I say sorta, because Foe-Biting is slightly different than VS). It's about the same power level as the feats in the Horrifically Overpowered feats line, and not even near the most powerful ones from there.
In any case, as I said I'm totally fine if it was banned. It would save me from having to figure out the calculations.

Monkeygod wrote: Seb, as I suggested earlier, I strongly recommend banning foe-biting. It's way too powerful, especially when every PC gets a legendary item. Most martial PCs will make their weapon their legendary item, and there's literally no reason not to take foe-biting. It's just far too good to pass up.
Just in case people were wondering, the person who wrote the mythic solutions that include banning foe-biting was Jason Nelson of Legendary Games. Among his credentials to speak on such matters mythic include being one of the main writers for Mythic Adventures from Paizo as well as a literal slew of mythic books from LG.
One of the main reasons he took the time to explore these fixes is because one of the biggest complaints about the Wrath of the Righteous AP was that mythic PCs were generally able to destroy most challenges thrown their way.
I'm totally fine with that. With all the Horrifically Overpowered feats and all the other options available, it's easy to do like 1k+ damage per round anyway, an extra 100 isn't gonna make a big difference, just didn't really see much else appealing in the list.
@GM: is there any way I can get a LegendaRy Item with Foe-Biting for my Unarmed Strike?
Thanks for the summary post of all the characters Erklig! Will type up my character tomorrow.
Sebecloki wrote: That actually raises a good point about schedule I should clarify -- I try to post 1/day. The 'regulars' from my other games probably already know I have a very unusual work schedule -- I work on 3rd shift/weekend option in a 24/7 clinical lab, and I'm mostly free during the week. That's my life situation to be aware of for my posting habits. I try to make quick posts when I come home briefly between shifts on the weekend, but sometimes I'm so tired after a 12-16 hour shift that I just have to sleep and get back to it during the week. Just to be clear, I can post on weekends just fine since that wouldn’t take long to post, but filling out a character like this one would be a bit much. I got about 90% of it done, but it’s all on Notepad at the moment.
Hayato Ken wrote: Maybe we should do a summary of applicants, their characters with classes and builds and a primary and secondary roll they want to focus on.
That might help everyone to refine their characters and get a good working and cooperating party together.
Half this page and the last few posts of the previous page is filled with people describing their characters. Most people are going either melee or ranged combatants. I think there’s one main caster. That said, the characters are all insanely powerful, and some can presumably do many different roles and be just as good at them.
I’ll post my character next Monday, as my schedule is different than most people’s where I can’t really post on weekends. The basic gist is he is primarily a sneaky guy and melee combatant. Can probably do upwards of 1-2k damage in a single round, but I imagine that might be pretty low compared to some of the others.
Erkliğ, нум/Num wrote: @Coinshot, I highly recommend the acquisition and use of the Bonded Mind feat. I have it (and can share it for 5 rounds 1/day), but since I'm going to have a speaking familiar who's going to be my mouthpiece, well ... ;) You might want a method for communication with others.
For what it's worth, since the 'link' of Bonded Mind was, essentially, sight-based, I always thought of it as being able to read each other's micro (or macro) expressions with a high degree of accuracy. Maybe not to have complex discussions, but certainly enough to have a certain level of conversation ...
I like it! Will add it to my feats list, thanks.

Character concept:
I had this idea of a character whose loyalty to Genghis Khan/Temujin was absolute, but so was his hatred for the man. Since Genghis's eventual death in history is a mystery, I thought it'd be great if, after everything was done, this was the guy that eventually takes him out.
The premise is that the character is simple monk dedicated to protecting the land and communities nearby, and he was away when Temujin raided his village. He arrived just in time to see his wife dying, and shouted to the heavens that he'd do anything to save her. Tengri intervenes, but he salts the wound and tells the monk he'd save the man's beloved's soul, but in return the monk would have to serve under Temujin and help him unite all the lands under the sky. In return, he would see his wife alive again after the deed is done. So now the monk will do everything in his power to help Temujin succeed, but at the same time his hatred for the man is pretty much unequaled.
Oh, he's also a mute since he got his tongue cut out at one point. I wanted him to be this absolute extreme of love's madness, a sort of embodiment of wrath. He justifies everything through his love for his wife, even his loyalty to the man responsible for her current state. I want him to be terrifying not because of his abilities, but because he's willing to do anything to help Temujin unite all the lands, including defying the man if need be (that's how he got his tongue cut out).
If this is a bit much, I have another background concept that'd still fit the build just fine, but please let me know.
Character build:
Race: Human + Samsaran or Aasimar
Classes: Mechanically he'll be a Monk (Tetori Monk) 12 // Druid (Ancient Guardian, Halcyon Druid) 12
Mythic: I'm not sure. Possibly Trickster 3 // Hierophant 3 but neither of these are really set yet.
Skills: High stealth stuff, high knowledge, acrobatics, etc. No social skills.
Notes: I may either VMC him into Magus, and/or use the Horrifically Overpowering Gestalt feat, though I'm not sure what for.
Character in play:
• He's a pretty versatile character, but his focus in on stealth and assassinations. So the majority of his powers and abilities aid him in those regards. He'll have Trapfinding, high stealth, high disable device, etc.
• He's a mute, so communication will be through clicks and various other non-verbal noises, probably telepathy as well. Keep in mind he'll be completely undetectable the majority of the time. He'll have almost zero abilities in social settings.
• He can wild shape into various animals and elementals both for combat and for utility, such as sneaking around as a diminutive undetectable creature. He's able to become incorporeal, etc.
• In combat he likes to perform coup de graces, change into elementals, summon creatures to help, occasionally use antimagic field if needed, etc. Basically willing to help out in any way possible. His melee attacks will be, like everyone else, capable of insane damage.
• Despite being a druid, I don't think I'll be giving him an animal companion, mainly because I feel like this character is so overpowered already.
Questions:
• Does the Defense Bonus from Unearthed Arcana stack with Mage Armor?
• Does Horrifically Overpowered Mythic Weapon Finesse apply to Combat Maneuvers? If not, what if I take Agile Maneuvers?
• Do we get the Horrifically Overpowered Mythic feats like Power Attack for free just like their normal and mythic counterparts?
Wow, thanks for all the answers Erklig! Can’t believe some of you are getting familiar or animal companion. It’s a lot of work just for this PC, lol. My druid is taking a domain for sure, though the character I have in mind really needs a telepathic friend badly. I’m thinking of just picking up a familiar but strip everything other than the telepathic bond since it’s just for roleplay purposes.
I love seeing what everyone’s making though. So many cool concepts!

Prerequisites: Dex 13, Int 13, Combat Expertise, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Whirlwind Attack, base attack bonus +4.
Benefit: When you use the full-attack action, you may take a single move action and give up your regular attacks. You instead make one melee attack at your highest base attack bonus against each opponent within reach at any point during your move action. You must make a separate attack roll against each opponent. When you use the Tsunami Attack feat, you also forfeit any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats, spells, or abilities.
Where did you find that feat? I don't see it listed on the site linked in the campaign info.
Also, where did you find an Unchained Zen Archer? I was looking for an Unchained Tetori Monk but couldn't find one, so I ended up using the chained monk.
Lastly, where is everyone finding the info for all the alternate humans that have like 31 points and stuff?

Templates: Advanced, Aqueous, Boreal, Giant**, Mutant, Water-Infused. Lots of cold-related archetypes that overlap a bit, and I may replace some of that. This is pretty bare-bones conceptual. Oh, and he'll be riding some suitably-northern beast, like a woolly rhino or woolly mammoth. Good chance of going into the Mammoth Rider prestige class eventually. Sounds cool to me. Lots of strikers thus far. Counting myself, I think we have like 4 melee types, and one main caster.
Are the [Gift] and [Knack] feats from Chopping Down the Christmas Tree only available as the bonus feats taken at levels 4, 8, and 12, or are they available for any feat slots?
My monk//druid won’t be a mounted combatant either. What kind of character are you building @monkeygod?
Just fyi, Vargos is waiting for someone else to do the talking, which is why I haven't posted. He's got charisma, but he's also clearly an undead, and would rather have someone else do the talking unless necessary.

Yours is correct with the exception that you missed the +2 'Fighter-like' bonus feats at L6.
@The Wyrm Ouroboros, you're right that I totally missed that at level 6, but by my count that would be 25 total feats, not 24 stated in your write-up? Did I somehow give myself an extra one? Is it because I added the human feat and yours didn't?
I can't believe I have more feats than I know what to do with, lol.
Monkeygod wrote: Roughly what positions in the army/society are our PCs allowed to hold? How high up can we be?
I'm wondering if maybe our base starting level maybe should be a little higher than six if we're supposed to high ranking members.
Edit: Before I get too hyped into my concept, are the Legendary classes by Legendary Games allowed?
The CR bin effectively puts us as lvl 12 characters, which is pretty high. I’m always fine going higher as well though, lol.
I'm super curious what all the other folks are building. I've seen the Paladin//Bard, and I think Vrog made a Fighter//UnMonk, but haven't heard much else from others. For my part I'm going as a super sneaky Monk//Druid. Will have to get Trapfinding through some other means (like the Trait that most people use).

Sebecloki wrote: The progression I put was without class bonus feats, hybrid, combat stamina, and skill tricks, or the Xmas tree stuff. I'll check this later. Okay, cool. I actually had to edit the post because I forgot the bonus knack/gift feat for level 4. That is a LOT of feats, lol. Awesome.

Just double-checking the feats progression (I included the human bonus since we're all humans). I wasn't sure if the example you listed included the feats from Chopping Down the Christmas Tree or not, so I wrote this up to double-check. Please let me know if I got this correct:
Level 1:
• 1 feat for each side of the gestalt = 2 total
• 1 feat for each side of the gestalt due to Fighter-like bonus = 2 total
• 1 feat for Chopping Down the Christmas Tree
• 1 feat for being human
• Level 1 TOTAL: 6 feats
Level 2:
• 1 feat for each side of the gestalt = 2 total
• 1 feat for each side of the gestalt due to Fighter-like bonus = 2 total
• Level 2 TOTAL: 4 feats
Level 3:
• 1 feat for each side of the gestalt = 2 total
• 1 feat for Chopping Down the Christmas Tree
• Level 3 TOTAL: 3 feats
Level 4:
• 1 feat for each side of the gestalt = 2 total
• 1 feat for each side of the gestalt due to Fighter-like bonus = 2 total
• 1 feat for either a Gift or a Knack feat from Chopping Down the Christmas Tree
• Level 4 TOTAL: 5 feats
Level 5:
• 1 feat for each side of the gestalt = 2 total
• Level 5 TOTAL: 2 feats
Level 6:
• 1 feat for each side of the gestalt = 2 total
• 1 feat for Chopping Down the Christmas Tree
• Level 6 TOTAL: 3 feats
LEVELS 1 TO 6 GRAND TOTAL: 23 feats
Any chance I can get this feat to be added to the list of Horrifically Overpowered feats? https://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/3rd-party-feats/louis-porter-jr-design/gener al-feats-3rd-party-louis-porter-jr/immediate-coup-de-grace/
I’m still super interested, even if I have to wait another few weeks to see the official recruitment!
Sebecloki wrote: We're going to do a group assessment before we start to make sure everyone has an interesting niche and no one is dramatically underpowered compared to everyone else. Awesome. For anyone curious, I'm going for an assassin-like build, using that Undetectable ability from the Legendary Item. He'll be an extremely capable scout, skill-monkey, and trap disarmer (if needed...? Not sure Mongols/Persians really utilized traps like in RPGs). In combat his main shtick is a single-round coup de grace, but given the amount of things that'll be immune to that, not to mention all the ways it can be negated with all the options we have available, he'll need to contribute in some other ways in combat. I haven't figured that part out yet. Was thinking of doing monk for one side of the gestalt
Sebecloki wrote: I'm still unclear what you're doing; 1 gestalt mythic tier = 2 CR. So you can have +4 CR and 4//4 MR.
That build would look like this:
6//6 (Base class)
4//4 (MR)
+4 CR
You're making calculations on each side of the gestalt so far as I can figure. All these exchanges are for an entire gestalt level(s) or gestalt mythic tier, not either side of the gestalt.
If it would help, I can try to put together every possible combination in a table on the recruitment page, then you can just pick the one you want.
Aaah, okay, I got it now!!! No more samples needed, lol. Cheers!
Sebecloki wrote: They're all correct except the last one -- I don't know what's going on with the mythic section on that one. For once, there's no such thing as a gestalt where you're different levels on different sides of the gestalt. Is there an error what you've typed here:
Class 6//Class 6
Mythic 6//Mythic 3
+0 CR templates
Okay, so the reason I included that weird example was because the exchange for CR and Mythic was confusing me (2 CR = 1 gestalt mythic tier). If all the other examples I gave was correct, that means that the exchange for 1 gestalt tier is actually 4 CR and not 2 CR as listed, right?
One of the example I gave used up 4 CR in exchange for a single level of Mythic tier:
Class 6//Class 6
Mythic 4//Mythic 4
+2 CR templates
Regarding the CR, are the examples below correct? Just making sure I understood the mythic exchange properly.
Class 6//Class 6
Mythic 3//Mythic 3
+6 CR templates
Class 12//Class 12
Mythic 3//Mythic 3
+0 CR templates
Class 6//Class 6
Mythic 4//Mythic 4
+2 CR templates
Class 6//Class 6
Mythic 6//Mythic 3
+0 CR templates
Sebecloki wrote: OK - I think I've gotten everything written up on the campaign page here for build rules: Link.
Why doesn't everyone have a gander at that and I'll do any last organization and/or editing before I start a recruitment thread.
In the case where an archetype changes your main attribute (e.g. Scaled Fist changes monks to use Charisma instead of Wisdom), do we apply that rule across all the archetypes we take for that class? So if I went normal Monk with the Scaled Fist and Tetori archetypes, do they all get to use Charisma?
Man, some awesome ideas already being proposed. So a paladin//bard striker, an oracle//medium buffer/debuffer, and possibly doing shenanigans with teamwork feats. I'd love to play the stealthy assassin type. Mythic finally makes that a pretty viable role with the Undetectable Legendary Item, so that's what I'm currently looking at. Not sure about specific classes as there are so many classes that can fill the role, but he'll focus on single-attacks as opposed to full-attacks, since he's more about stealth.
Sebecloki wrote: If you're asking if you can transfer them, there's no need. They have their own. Sounds like it’s time to take out my Twinned Summoner.
hustonj wrote: Not necessarily, Coinshot. The archetype that makes a Sorcerer a Wisdom-based class gestalt with Monk for example, is going to gain some serious mojo with that kind of gouda. What I meant was that since the CR is exchanged for class levels, you'd end up with like CR 6//Class 6, unless I'm mistaking how that CR stuff works...? I mean, even with that exchange, like I said, the DCs would still be insane.
@caster4life, even if you could stack templates, you’d be doing it at the cost of one side of the gestalt, right? I mean, I guess no one would beat your DCs though lol.
Vargos was delighted at hearing the bird speak and respond to him. Someone else was speaking, and he was taken aback that there was another undead there with them that he hadn't noticed. That bird truly captured his attention.
Silently refocusing, Vargos nods to all of them. "I wish to speak to this farmer and hear his plight. As the saying goes, if you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path."
Vargos wasn't keen on companions, but if they're all seeking the same thing...
sounds good! Also look into the archetype stacking thing. I saw that it said archetypes would stack instead of replacing class features, which seems like people can just take all the archetypes they want.
Sebecloki wrote: I think the real area it would be helpful to limit stuff is some of the really extensive third-party systems like spheres. I think the rogue genius and legendary games versions of the core classes are flexible enough to do most character ideas. Okay, let us know what you decide on the source materials and starting level, and I'll get cracking on a character!
I'm a bit unclear on the CR stuff, but I tend to play vanilla races, so that probably won't affect me anyway.
My 2 cents:
- Prefer human only for better immersion into the setting.
- Prefer high level since we're dealing with all sorts of mythic and insanely powerful opponents. Just seems more fun.
- Prefer limited content, mainly because it's just way too much stuff to read. I'm familiar with all Paizo, psionics, PoW, and SoP personally.
What a great premise. I'm definitely interested!
Newbie to SoP here. Reading over the Fate sphere, it says that the Word ability requires a standard action to invoke. Then looking at the talent list, the Bless and Curse abilities both say they require an immediate action. So my question is, do I need to first use a standard action to denote who may get the Bless/Curse, and then when I want to use Bless/Curse I would need to use an immediate action? Or, do I simply need to use an immediate action without a standard action?
If it's the former, I'd need to use a standard action to invoke Word on all my allies and would require 4 turns, and then I'd still need to use an immediate action afterwards. Is there any way to use Word as a Swift action or Free action by any chance, maybe through feats or items?
