OK, the dataset with just the most recent FAWTL thread is still on its first epoch of training. I'm pulling the plug, and replacing it with something shorter.

OK, this training set is just the posts from the latest FAWTL thread from January 1, 2017 forward, without quoted material. It's 8,089,306 characters, 1,450,103 words, 43,231 lines, 39,061 posts, 1,931,361 word sequences. Each epoch is 15,088 batches, and it appears to be ticking through batches at 3 or so per second. 5,000 seconds is about an hour and a half, which matches its current prediction of 1 hour, 38 minutes per epoch.

Kind of reminds me of how we work hard to help our vacuums pick up stuff that we could and should just pick up ourselves...

I'm following these instructions, which walk you through getting the textgenrnn Python library working, using a TensorFlow back end. Training looks like this:

gt:~ gt$ python3
Python 3.6.5 (default, Apr 25 2018, 14:23:58)
[GCC 4.2.1 Compatible Apple LLVM 9.1.0 (clang-902.0.39.1)] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> from textgenrnn import textgenrnn
Using TensorFlow backend.
>>> textgen = textgenrnn()
>>> textgen.train_from_largetext_file('/Users/garyt/Desktop/fawtlposts.txt', word_level=True, num_epochs=100)

Hmmm, perhaps if you tried Cap's Skyrim thread you might get better results. Or maybe his Fallout thread.

edit: Skyrim thread link

It's not going to start producing the names of you're friends, if that's what your thinking. They don't even have names that can be rendered on a keyboard.

I was going to do RPG Superstar wondrous items next, but it was easier to get a corpus from the Ask James Jacobs thread. So the network is now working on its first epoch. Training on 2,346,138 word sequences, the network is predicting each epoch will take 2-3 hours.

The source is 10,247,685 characters, 1,858,279 words, pulled from 29,080 posts. I've omitted quoted material so it should be just his words.

I present to you epoch 1 of the Jamesbot:

She wouldn't wait until your reach. That's on the yellow dead,

I'm not sure that the game I'm saying much more. I'm not sure that the pcs are in the game. I'm not sure that the rules are in the game, and that's a good idea for the rules.

I'm not sure. I'm not sure that the rules are in the game. I'd say that the bard's a good choice for the game, and I'd say that the best bet is to the gm to decide to make a character that's a good idea. I'd say that the spell's a good choice for a bard, and a bard who's a bard who's a cleric of a bard or a cleric or a cleric or a cleric or a cleric or a cleric or a or a or a or a or or a or or a or or or a or or or a or or or a or or or a or or or whatever.

I think that's a good idea. I don't think that's the rules.
