All Seeing Orb, I have a more general question- what is your overal oppnion of the book. How does it compare to other paizo products? Is it worth it? Etc.

The book is not perfect, but certainly up to the standard of Paizo's other products. There are a few things that will need clarification or errata, though if you're not an obsessive compulsive rules-lawyer like The Orb, they're unlikely to bother you. If you're unsure, you should take a look at a friend's copy, or flip through one in your local game store when the book hits the streets.

There aren't shields like you see in Pathfinder, though the book does have everything you need to build Reinhardt from Overwatch.

Oh, that's cool! What do, say, the Akashic, or Empath connections do?

Also, are some of the less conventional Pathfinder melee weapons still present (like the Khopesh, or the Spiked Chain)? Also, the mystic preview (I think) mentioned a "repeller staff". What does that do?

The repeller staff is like a high-tech quarterstaff with a built in stun gun.

How are stamina points and hit points determined?

Vidmaster7 wrote:

You get a set amount of hit points for your race and then by class each level. Stamina is by class+con mod per level. Race HP is 2-6. Class HP and SP values are 5-7. So health pools are generally much larger in Starfinder. (A level 20 technomancer for example is gonna have something like 104 hp and 160 sp. A level 20 soldier would be something like 146 HP and 240 sp)

Kuthonites are the followers of the god of torture and Darkness, Zon-Kuthon.

The feat is mediocre enough to not worry about. One of the few things I would call a trap option.

Good enough. I ordered through my FLGS so I don't have the PDF yet. I'm planning on a transhumanist style character with lots of cybernetics & organic grafts, so having 4 arms is planned to begin with (or 6 if I go Kasatha).

Yes, multiclassing is possible. For any key stat calculation not associated with a particular class (such as Resolve Points), you use the highest available key stat.

As questions are winding down a bit, is there anyone with a burning question from earlier in the thread that may have been glanced over?

Something I forgot to include in one of my earlier posts- what are your general thoughts on the setting fluff. Does the starfinder setting actually seem like an interesting setting to play in to you?

Your favorite/least aspect of the setting would be cool to know.

Having only recently found this thread, I believe I will be the second person to query on the presence or absence of arm cannons.

This is a hard question to answer for The Orb, since we've never really used setting fluff as anything other than inspiration when building our own setting.

There are definitely loads of interesting plot hooks sprinkled in the setting. Anyone who likes Golarion will probably have fun with the Pact Worlds.

Some armors (particularly the powered varieties) can have weapons mounted on them. No reason you couldn't flavor your particular weapon mount as an arm-cannon.

A few things no one's asked about, but might get some of you excited:

There seem to be a lot of items that would be perfect for building the cast of Overwatch. There's even a way to do Ana's biotic rifle (though as usual, getting your teammates to stay still long enough to land a shot on them may be an issue).

The Technomancer has a way to do a sort of "spellstrike", and can even lob spell-infused grenades.

Rocket-assisted Starknives for when your Desnan runs out of patience.

An "Injection Glove" with a spring-loaded needle in the index finger, don't let any shady scientists poke you!

okay some more questions....

1) Is Calistria mentioned at all?

2) Is there any mechanical perks for worshiping a god...like a feats...part of the priest theme, etc?

3) How much are the planes and outsiders mentioned?

Calistria is briefly mentioned in the "Other Gods" section.

The priest theme grants benefits when dealing with other members of your faith, and gives you a little bit of divine magic later in the game. Outside of the Mystic class and Priest theme, though, your religion seems to be mostly fluff.

The Great Beyond gets a 2-page spread, though not much besides that. There are spells for traveling between planes, like Plane Shift and Shadow Walk.

There's a feat that requires 4 or more arms, so is effectively Kasatha exclusive.

There are a number of non-powered melee weapons (most are swords made from exotic materials), and also plenty of cartridge based firearms. If you're trying to avoid using electricity in your weapons, you shouldn't have an issue.

Operative weapons are a type of melee weapon, they include light things like daggers and batons.

Thanks!

I have a few questions I forgot to ask:

What is the hacker operative like?

What is the outlaw theme like?

Is there any way an android can implant weapons or equipment in its body?

How early can a character realistically obtain a cybernetic prosthesis?

Is it possible to play a character that focuses on a stat other than their "key" ability, such as a Strength-based operative? If so, how easy is it?

What is the neatest drone mod, in your opinion?

Which magic hack acts like a spellstrike?

is what the Priest theme and what the mystic class gives you dependent on the god you worship or is generic nonsense?

The mechanic's drone potentially gives you more combat actions and targets, what is the general advantage of the other option, the implanted AI (I'm gathering this is called an exocortex from context or maybe that's a mechanic archetype)?

IonutRO wrote:

Spellshot at level 8 lets you cast spells through ranged weapon attacks.

Exocortex makes you Soldier Lite. You get skill focus, more proficiencies, and can use a move action to get full BAB against somebody as long as you can see them. As you level, you get more targets and the ability to hack things while doing other things at the same time, and pick up a bit of body modding. You can spend your tricks to improve your initiative, reflexes, and senses.

The Mystic class has "Connections", which are sort of like domains (though with far far more abilities). Different gods give access to different connections, just how in Pathfinder different gods have different domains. The SLA that the Priest theme grants you is also required to be "appropriate for your god".

What's your favourite theme?

The Hacker operative gets the ability to use computers to make trick attacks, is skilled at avoiding computer security, and eventually gets the ability to temporarily control systems they disable before shutting them down. Perhaps a bit of a niche specialization, but in a cyberpunk campaign, a lot of fun.

The Outlaw has all manner of shady connections. You get things like discreet shopping through the black market, and even the ability to buy your way out of trouble.

With cybernetics, anyone can implant weapons in their bodies. Androids, however, have even more mods available to them. The things they can install aren't really intended for organic creatures.

There are a few different sorts of cybernetic limbs, the simplest ones (which are no different from your natural limbs) can probably be obtained with your first adventure's credits. A kind GM might even let you start with one, since there's not really a mechanical benefit. The later models aren't for replacing your existing limbs, but instead giving you extra limbs. If you thought 4-armed Kasatha were unnerving, wait until you see the 6-armed augmented variety.

A lot of classes could very easily be built to focus on an ability score other than their key score. Even the casters have options that might make you want to prioritize a physical stat over a casting stat.

Ventnor wrote:

Tough to choose a "neatest". The "medical subroutine" mod sounds very handy, as it allows you drone to administer first aid to you should you be knocked out of the fight.

I know from previews that flight is feather fall "When cast a first level spell". That implies spells that can be cast and different levels for different effects.

Is that assumption right, and if so, is that just a few spells, or is that more common.

The "Undercasting" system from Occult Adventures is baked into Starfinder. Not every spell comes in different levels, but a good few do.

Icon. It's set up so that you can be something obvious, like a rockstar, but just as easily a celebrity scientist like Niel deGrasse Tyson. The perks are cool- generally being able to cash in on all the people who love your work and are happy to slip you into their schedules for the Space!Instagram opportunity. Not free stuff, just always having connections. The level 18 abilities for everything are ways to recover a limited amount of resolve, and Icon does it by hanging out with fans after a performance or (for things like a celebrity scientist) a press conference.

(Amusingly, a typo gives you a feature to make you really self-absorbed and ignorant of anybody else in your field. The intended wording is clear, though.)

So yeah, anyone who wants Bill Nye in space, this captures a sizable chunk of the population knowing your theme song in a way that Scholar just doesn't.

The theme I am most interested in is Starfarer. Mostly because I like station brats, but also because I have no idea what direction they decided to go with it. It could be for making resources last in an environment where you can't just produce more, or it could be for spacewalk jockeys. Lots of stuff. What's your take on its intention? Haven't seen anyone talking about it at all yet. Thank you very much. :)

Also, I greatly appreciate the tone of this thread. It's so much friendlier than, uh... other places.

Playing a similar one! Mechanic with a flying camerabot drone. Rest of the party wants to be fans that won permanent spots on the show early on.

Another Icon party-composition idea: everyone in the party is an Icon, except for one person. Sort of like the unknown actor in Tropic Thunder, or the redshirt/extra that made it onto the adventure in Galaxy Quest. "And we have... another crewmember!"
