Nope not at all, go for it as a submission, I'll just have the bonuses stack probably maxing put at +5 so some semblance of balance is maintained.

Oh man, do I try to make my backstory explain the slightly more mechanically beneficial option, or do I take the one that is ultimately a little less useful but fits my backstory so well?

Would we ever get a chance to change out the stones, if we wanted to? I know the Azlanti originally made the Ioun Stones, so I'm just wondering. If I can, I'll probably take the option that's a little less mechanically beneficial and swap it out later. If not, I have some thinking to do.

Swapping them out is possible but tampering may create unintended results :-)

Two questions, I could shift by BG to fit a few different scion options, must my submission be taken on specifically for one, or can I have a second alteration should someone else also choose the same scion? I'd be rather disappointed to be left out because of something so easily altered.

Second question, I was thinking of playing a paladin (one of a few ideas), though my take on lawful good alignment challenges the common view on alignment. Is this acceptable, or should I avoid it?

A second alteration is just fine.

Acceptable my version of Lawful Good and your version will inevitably vary, straight up evil acts would effect the character but blurred lines make for more interesting RP.

Let me know what specifically you are looking at though I doubt I would have any objections.

I'm going with Jatambe

In ABP stat raising items do not exist. Are the ioun stones going to be an exemption to this?

Ok then :) Might go with Escobar Vellian as the famous parent or perhaps sibling - being a gish runs in the family.

Yes! It'll be a modified ABP which I will fully outline in the Recruitment criteria coming up this week.

After checking some stuff out, I will likely go Student of War/Lore Warden, Myrmidon Fighter. Assuming Path of War is allowed.

Quick GM help: Myrmidon grants Grit at first level, but says it replaces the 2nd level fighter bonus feat. Which makes no sense.

Would it be OK if I gave up my first level bonus fighter feat instead?

I can also check with DSP to see if that's been errata'd or not.

Also,

Is the legacy trait replacing or in addition to, a campaign trait?

If it's in addition to, are we thus having one general, non AP trait, or will you give us a 2nd, for a total of 4(provided we need both a legacy and campaign trait).

Path of War OK.

Look at the errata as I agree, something makes no sense there.

Three Traits this time around - General, Campaign, and Legacy (1 per person here) (plus a 4th if you take a Drawback).

One or two Campaign Traits I think I need to modify but the PRCs to Base conversion is more important right now as I need to finish that before I can start Recruitment.

Well, I was specifically thinking of the Everyman's Unchained Monk Archetypes book, which contains the Unchained version of the Zen Archer Archetype. Most of it is basically the same, with some minor changes (like bonuses to Ranged Maneuvers, which was my idea). If you don't have the book I'll look for a way to make it avaliable to you. Or...

...or, just reading that PoW is avaliable as well, I might have a look at that...

...which leads to my following question. Spheres of Anything allowed?

For now, the only thing I'm 95% sure is that I feel like playing a ranged guy. The Unchained Zen Archer was only a way to ensure he could be good at Combat Maneuvers, to bring in something more than just raw damage (something he's not really the best at).

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I'll be building an up front fighter type. She's going to be working at the forge. I'm looking at using Ambrus Valsin as my connection for my backstory.

Contributor

I'm gonna go with Dalania Pontius. I'll likely go with some sort of divine caster.

I'm thinking of taking Marcos Farabellus for my legacy connection, possibly as my uncle.

I've got an... out there idea for this character, mostly Slayer with a 3-4 level dip into Unchained Monk. As written, the Master of Many Styles archetype still works with the Unchained Monk, and I intend to take it in order to blend the Kitsune and Cloak & Dagger combat styles to be a master of the Dirty Trick maneuver. Shadow, I do have some questions for you, however.

First off, would you consider removing the requirement of Vital Strike for Cloak & Dagger Style? It only has any benefit when you get to the third feat in the feat chain, and even then it's not very good. It seems an odd choice because the characters that, from a thematic standpoint, would usually take this are classes like the rogue. Vital Strike is perhaps one of the worst options for a class like that, because your precision damage isn't multiplied. The only bonus it gives the last feat is allowing to to be used with Vital Strike in addition to when flanking/Dex to AC is denied. It just seems like a feat tax on an already intensive build.

Secondly, would you allow me to forgo the requirement of using only a light weapon? A fighter can theoretically use this with a greatsword, and I don't really get why that's an immediate requirement for everyone else? I was thinking of using an Elven Curveblade, although I'll probably use a kukri or something if you don't want me to use anything other than light weapons.

In general, the character's shtick is to continuously debilitate enemies. Intended to go first as often as humanly possible, he opens combat with a flurry of poisoned shuriken to try and weaken as many foes as possible before engaging in melee with Dirty Trick maneuvers to keep them as weakened as possible. I'm unsure of which PrC I'll take for the other half; Student of War offers bonus combat feats which would be a boon to me, but any that potentially give some spells aren't a bad idea either, in my opinion. Some basic low-level spells for sneaking and combat utility are all I'd really want, so if any offer 4th-6th level casting I'll probably go for that.

I'm going with Kreighton Shaine, I'm thinking a scrollmaster wizard or something simmilar.

Scratch that on the earlier question, I think I have an easier way of doing a similar build.

Looking over the player's guide, I really like the idea of playing an Undine Adept. I'm still not sure which PrC I want to go with.

I kept the themes of the PRCs just spread over 20 instead of 10 levels. I should (hopefully} have them up by Wednesday and get the Official Recruitment post ready to go that night.

I'll look over the traits and figure out which one to tie a legacy too.

In that case, I think I'll pick field agent. I like the flexibility of it.

I'm quite tempted by student of war, although magus already has too many swift actions. Perhaps Delver meshes better and I like the flavor of that too.

I think I'll play a ranged Stalker, scion of Marcos Farabellus. I had thought I woould pick the Legacy trait mechanic wise, but never that I would do it the other way around - pick the class according to the bonus the trait is giving me :P I just liked Marcos personality and wanted to weave a story with that.

So, just to get it right, are we all starting as Society members, no matter which Campaign trait we pick?

Edit: By the way, is Marcos a human? I don't want to request fatherhood being a different race, would sound ridiculous xD

I have a Gillman Oracle in a recruitment thread for a normal Ruins of Azlant game: Weyve Murkwater. That recruitment closes Friday.

If that falls through I could resubmit him here and add the Pathfinder Chronicler Gestalt Class.

I'd like to put forward a Doctor Archetype Scholar, from the Spheres of Might playtest which I can link later, a scion of Gojan who uses "regenerative pharmaceuticals" as a mixture with his Alchemy to heal others, and other obscure numerian tinkerings, just a slight reflavoring of class features.

Honestly, Student of War seems like it would combine best mechanically, but I'm not gonna worry about it too much yet. Skills and such are already well covered by the Scholar chassis, as well as nonskill utility (that isn't spellbased). I plan on debuffing and healing with alchemical items, and using devices and such for more niche support, hopefully.

Welp, guess I need to eliminate you. There can be only one scion per legacy member, and I too want to be tied to Marcos.

BATTLE ROYALE!!

Pfff.

I rather change the whole PC.

Will come back with another idea tomorrow.

Hmm I was messing about and it looks like it shouldn't be too difficult to modify the HeroLab versions of the various PrCs (assuming that nothing much changes). Kinda handy can then use the regular gestalt support.

Ilnerik Sivanshin will be my connection to the Pathfinders, albeit with a... roundabout way of getting there, shall we say. I have quite an exciting idea for a character, just waiting for some feedback from Shadow before I start looking into it more.

Doomed Hero here.

I have the background and alias for my submission done. As soon as the adapted PRCs are up, I'll get to work on the mechanics.

I don't remember seeing a point buy listed. How are we doing stats?

Looking forward to seeing more details revealed about character creation.

What's the deadline for submissions?

Yes, all Society Members as all Traits link you to a current, ex, or deceased Society Member.

Yes Marcos is Human.

Though based on your next post you may go in a different direction...

Sounds good to me. Good luck in the other Recruitment. No worries, this one has not officially begun yet.

Is there a release date of Spheres of Might yet? Looking forward to the final product though sadly I dd not get in on the Kiskstarter in time.

I am still debating 20 or 25 point buy. Tomorrow the Full Recruitment will go up. I am hoping my PRC to Base class Editor has feedback for me by then :-)

PM responded to. Ah Ilnerik, I have a group of NPCs interacting with him in a different campaign right now :-)

If I'm not mistaken, they should be done (as of now) around December, though as with all products, time is subject to change. I'm part of the kickstarter, and I really like everything I've seen so far.

So does that mean they're allowed or?

To Hell with it. This is Rashkhem's story, about himself and Marcos Farabellus, his father. Alea iacta est.

I'm working on his crunch as a Stalker. In case Shadow decides to allow SoM (which I strongly doubt, but hey), I'll change the crunch to that. Anyways, still the Gestalt part to be added. When the Alias is finished, I'll post with it.

Departure:

"Dear Marcos,

I hope you understand why I need to go away. Your life in the Society won't fit with the caring of a child, and I don't want to be a distraction. Our child deserves to be raised away of the influence of Absalom.

Please, don't follow us. We will go to a remote corner of the World and our child will grow up free. In time, he'll know of his father, I promise. Try to keep yourself alive until then.

Kisses,
Aisha."

Note found by Marcos Farabellus in his room on the 7th day of Pharast, 4694.

-------------------------------------------

2 of Arodus, 4694

Dear Marcos,

I am happy to announce you that our child was born today. A strong and healthy boy. He will be cared for and loved, and here no one will mind that he's illegitimate. Be at peace about his near future, worry only about when he comes to you, because if he's only half as stubborn as his father, he will.
Of course, I'm too weak to write this - someone else is transcribing my words, but rest assure is someone trustworthy enough. Please, keep yourself well.

Kisses,
Aisha.

In Search of a Legacy:

"Son... I feel... I think I'm going..."

Tears were rolling down Rashkhem's cheeks, but he fought the knot in his throat with valor. "Hush, mother. Don't say these things. Here, have some water..." Somehow, though, he knew it was imminent. He could feel it.

"I don't need water, Rash. I... I need to tell you... something before I pass away. Remember... remember I have always told you your father was... a good man?"

"Mother..." The grip was already holding his chest, and he began to shake unvoluntarily.

"Yes you do. Caring for an old lady has... delayed you too much." Aisha smiled, knowing at her departure everything would be as it should. "If you want to find your father... look in the Society. He's... he..."

The cry of pain echoed through the hills far away, though no one but the wild fauna was there to hear it.

Father!:

Marcos’ bald head was shining from the sweat. ”Alright, kiddos, training’s over for today!” The room was suddenly full of moans and complaints about how hard was the session - just like any other day. Marcos was known for being quite extreme at the trainings. ”You’ll thank me one day!” he always said.

”See you all tomorrow! Same place, same time!” The students began to retire, but Marcos had something else to add. ”Rashkhem! Stay for a while, please.”

Rash tried hard not to roll his eyes. His fellow students tapped him in the shoulders when they were passing by to abandon the training room. Marcos was known for having personal interviews with the students from time to time, where he discussed some of the flaws he noticed in the student’s techniques. Rash was not aware that he was performing wrong, though, so he wondered what was it going to be about.

Marcos wandered a bit through the room, pulling his beard, making time until they were completely alone. He tried to start a speech twice or thrice, but doubted. ”Rashkhem… when you first came here… I mean, to the Society… ummm…” He couldn’t find the proper words, so he shook his head and went all in. ”Rashkhem, how is Aisha?”

”Wh-what?” Rash was in shock. How could he…? Then it all came together. It was him! ”You… you? Father!

Marcos nodded. Both were frozen, they didn’t know what to do and, even if they knew, they probably couldn’t do anything. Rash stuttered. ”I… you… I’ve got so many… why did you…?” His voice was trembling. Marcos wanted to hug him, to hold him in his arms and protect him, but he just couldn’t. The kid was too confused, too torn. He needed time to accept the fact, the same time Marcos had taken for himself to gather the strength to do this. ”Yes, kiddo, it’s me. If you wonder, no, I didn’t want to let you down. I didn’t want to… Aisha… she asked me, she told me…” Marcos produced a piece of paper and handed it in to Rash. ”Here, have it. Read it.”

Rash took the paper with a shaking hand. ”Excuse me but… I need… I…”

”Yes, student, you can retire. Take your time. Whenever you want to talk, you know where to find me.” Rashkhem left hastily, and only when the door finally closed and Marcos was completely alone did he finish his speech. ”I love you, son.”

Rashkhem:

Rashkhem (or Rash) is a tall and well-built guy, more graceful with his moves than with his talking. Though born in Osirion and possessor of a tanned skin and black eyes and hair, his features are clearly from somewhere else. Actually, Rash has some obscure ascendance somewhere deep in his maternal lineage, but no one knows about that - not even himself. He’s only aware of his strange capacity to sense people’s state of being, though he attributes it to some strange virtue.

Born the illegitimate son of an important Society member, he was born and raised away from his father. He made a living out of his hunting and exploring skills (as well as some artifact smuggling) and then joined the Society in his late teens, where he was finally found by Marcos (who’d been carefully checking on every new recruit for sometime, being aware that his son would one day com looking for him).

Rashkhem feels himself a bit too young to know what he wants in life, though he tries hard not to let that be too obvious. Wanting to impress his father and some other big shots, he signed on this adventure to try to make a name for himself. He was chosen for his survival capabilities and ranged support.

What will Rash’s future be when he finds out about the ancient society of the Azlanti? What about his dark heritage? What will his father’s reaction be to all these discoveries?

Sorry for the confusion, I am allowing Sere of Might of course once the book is out any changes that have to be made have to be made if the build is based on playtest materials.

What's the deadline for submissions?

Final details will be released tonight, got my feedback but I might just leave the item as is.

The PDF comes out the 17th but I am on vacation at the end of the month so I don't know if I want to start and then be off on vacation for a week breaking up the flow of game intro.

The deadline to submit will probably be Tuesday September 5th as I am in favor of longer Recruitments to allow time to build and allow those who dotted in (in some cases months ago)and may be on vacation time to notice the creation rules and submit.

Great there'll be plenty of time after my holiday to get this charterer up to scratch then.

7 people marked this as a favorite.

RECRUITMENT FOR THE RUINS OF AZLANT AP - SCIONS OF THE PATHFINDER SOCIETY GESTALT

Alright, Recruitment is now OFFICIALLY open.

1. 25 Point Buy.
2. Max HP at 1st level (roll OR 1 1/2+1 per level).
3. Background Skills.
4. Automatic Bonus Progression will be utilized. Bonuses start at Second Level.
5. Skill unlocks will be used.
6. Three Traits (+1 more with a drawback) One trait will be a Campaign Trait (Eagle Knight Recruitment and Pathfinder Recruit are eliminated as selections), the second Trait will be PC choice, the third Trait will be a Pathfinder Society Scion Trait.
7. Hero Points will be utilized.

House Rules for Hero Points:
Hero Point Mechanics:

1) One permanent Hero Point may be used to avoid a final death scenario allowing a narrow cinematic escape,

2) One temporary Hero Point may be used if you are between -1 and -9 hit points to stabilize yourself to prevent further blood loss,

3) Temporary Hero Points may be expended to power Feats. These grant a lasting bonus for a one scene or one round duration depending on the feat description,

4) One temporary Hero Point grants a character a chance to supplement their d20 roll by 1d6 and add the result (whatever it was - no re-roll) to the d20 result,

Progression system:
Level 1-10 1d6,
Level 11-20 2d6,
Level 21-?? 3d6. and

5) No more than one Hero Point may be expended per round.

Optional rules mostly in the form of New Feats for Hero Points:

Arcane Surge (Prerequisites - Arcane Class) (Allows wielder to increase a spell DC by 3 for 1 round by expending a Hero Point),

Attune Item (Prerequisites - A Weapon of Legacy) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to add +3 to attack and damage for the scene with chosen item),

Defensive Ward (Prerequisites - Dodge) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to give yourself a +3 Luck bonus to AC for the scene),

Divine Surge (Prerequisites - Divine Class) (Allows wielder to increase a spell DC by 3 for 1 round by expending a Hero Point),

Heroic Feat (Prerequisites - None) (Any saving throw successfully made 10 points above an effects DC automatically allows the character to regain 1 used Hero Point),

Heroic Grace (Prerequisite - None) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to add +1 to all saving throws or +3 to one saving throw for one scene),

Heroic Quickness (Prerequisites - Improved Initiative) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to add +3 to Initiative checks),

Manifesting Surge (Prerequisites - Psionic Class) (Allows wielder to increase a powers save DC by 3 for 1 round by expending a Hero Point).

8. Finally, the build will be Gestalt. One side of the build MUST be from the following Pathfinder Society "Base Classes". The other is a class of the PCs choice.

Pathfinder Base Classes

The Field Agent is not as organized as I would normally present but I am ready to get this rolling and don't want to spend time formatting.

Note that all Third Party Products are available though I have the right to deny anything that seems to be unbalanced.

Races will be somewhat restricted and must be approved by me if they are "unusual".

Recruitment will end Tuesday September 5th @ 10 pm eastern time.

I will be accepting 8 applicants.

Let me know if you have any questions!

They have weird Saving Throws. Do we assume they mean 'good' or 'bad' STs like base classes, or are they meant to have PrC STs?

Other than that, I'm loving this! I changed Rashkhem to be a human, and will polish his fluff and start on his crunch soon. :)

Plotting now.

Hmm, the capstone for the Student of War seems a little lackluster. Feels more like it would fit a PrC based on brute strength than a class(prestige or otherwise) based around intelligence and smart tactics.

Alright! I'm thinking I'll combine Scholar with Pathfinder Savant, and go full utilitarian support.

I want to be clear; with the wayfinders we will start with, do they have all of the listed benefits? Or would we need to find the relevant Ioun Stones out in the world and slot them in to gain it?

Is undine too unusual? I figured there's a few hundred years separating me from my scion, so race shouldn't be too much of an issue in that regard. I mainly picked it because it was in the players guide though, so I don't mind too much if I need to go with something else.

Is there a mistake in the Savant's spell progression, or do Savants not start getting spells until level 2?
