Hey! Skurge with twin machine guns. That's an awesome little callback.
They sing no songs in Hel… nor do they celebrate heroes…
…for silent is that dismal realm and cheerless…
…but the story of the Gjallerbru and the god who defended it is whispered across the Nine Worlds…
…and when a new arrival asks about the one to whom even Hela bows her head…
…the answer is always the same…
…he stood alone at Gjallerbru…
…and that answer is enough

I can't f!~%ing read that quote to end without silently mouthign it and getting shivers. If they play that scene I'm gonna die in that theater seat.
And yes, this looks great. Jack Kirby would have been happy to see someone finaly nail his aesthetic on silver screen.

Damn, that looks pretty f!cking good. Lots of Walt Simonson influences. I guess we finally get to see Dark Galadriel:
In the place of a Dark Lord you would have a Queen! Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the Morn! Treacherous as the Seas! Stronger than the foundations of the Earth! All shall love me and despair!

Okay it's official. This movie sold me for Hela alone. I mean it's clearly got some Jack Kirby vibe but as Slaadi said, some Walt Simonson too. Which is epic.
This is kind of what wish the second movie had been more like. The first, fine they couldn't have magic. Whatever. But THIS! This is what I remember reading my Thor comics as he goes off to fight Frost Giants and such.

OTOH, not really fond of the Slave Gladiator concept, even with the Hulk there. Hope they don't dwell too long on that.
Nor am I really happy with Hela stopping and shattering the hammer. That's up a Odin or beyond power levels, which Hela's never been. Maybe they've got some cool justification for it, so I'll reserve judgement, but it doesn't give my happy feelings.

Sure, you're not crazy about Mjolnir getting broken, but on the flip side of that coin, Darryl's probably happy he can vacuum the living room again.

The arena fights seem borrowed/adapted from Planet Hulk in the comics, but I can't be certain as I didn't read it.
---
Yeah, Hela seems over-the-top powerful. My guess is she's far stronger at magic than anyone else we've seen Thor (or Loki) go against, and I'm willing to buy the Goddess of Death being able to unmake/corrode powerful enchantments, even in an artifact like Mew-Mew.
My other thought is she may get stronger/power-up after the deaths of powerful beings like the Asgardians, especially if she wipes out their capital and after that big battle we see flashes of (the brief scene where it looks like winged horses and valkyries are falling). And if...

Yeah, some sort of power up through Thanos is one idea that makes sense.
Still without some such, she shouldn't be able to override Odin's enchantments nearly that easily. She's been a worthy adversary for Thor from time to time, but nothing like that.
It did have a Planet Hulk look to it, though I don't know anymore than you about it. Like I said, I hope that isn't too much a focus of the movie.

Well, from the mid-credits scene in Doctor Strange
And, as I remember American Gods premieres soon, Odin from myth was a trickster god too. (I only have patchy knowledge of how Odin was portrayed in the comics.) Maybe MCU Odin had help enchanting/forging Mjolnir? If Hela helped make it, she could probably unmake it.

It's fun speculating. But unless it gets truly terrible reviews, I'm going to go see it. They had me as soon as I saw Blanchett evilly smile.

No one knows where Odin is but he might be just hanging out with Ian McShane to help him brush up for his role.
As for how Hela can do that, it's clear she's much more powerful in MCU than she was in comics. How that's possible isn't clear but to me, that's something I felt was clearly lacking. A CREDIBLE threat from a single villain with a plan. Other than Loki everyone else has been a little...hit or miss. Hela though, clearly has the power, the desire and the skill to pull of this Ragnarok level of power.
How much of the movie will be Planet Hulk remains to be seen, but I'm willing to bet somehow it will end with Hulk and Thor fighting Hela's powers mainly because you'll need both. Perhaps even having to reforge Mjolnir. We'll just have to see how and whether or not Doctor Strange might be involved.

And they really hit the right song for the trailer, too.
However, the clincher was definitely the whole
"YESSSSS!"
*crowd goes dead silent*
"I know him from work!"
Though the fact that he doesn't have his hammer and is being put into gladiatorial contests is... interesting, to say the least. Did he lose his mojo... or is something else afoot?

Great Trailer. Can not wait for the movie. And yes Blanchett is great as usual^^
Regarding Helas Power levels, wasn't she more powerful than most of the gods? During Simonsons run she put Thor down with one hit and it left him with scars if i remember correctly.
And in the old Marvel RPG from the eighties she was a lot more powerful than the other gods too.
So it is not like she was a pushover in the comics.

I am definitely seeing this one in theater. I do wonder how they will fix his hammer its kind of iconic... I think he keeps most of his strength probably no lighting or flying. even full powered fighting hulk could go ether way so that will make a good fight.
As far as Hel breaking it Odin is AWOL without him around maybe his enhancements aren't as strong or Hel stole some Odin power that would cover it. Won't know till we see it.

My Thor knowledge is mostly limited to ancient memories of Simonson's run and reading wiki articles.
...maybe MCU Hela is the Soul Stone?

In the comics he keeps the storm powers because that is his birthright and is not connected with the hammer. So with his strength and fighting abilities he would be still a opponent to make even the hulk sweat.
I think that is the main problem with Thor. He is too often reduced to the guy with the hammer and people forget that he is more than that.

Well, we see Hela shatter it earlier in the trailer.

Definitely not a pushover, but also not Odin level either. Not effortlessly stop and shatter Mjolnir.

Interesting I kind of thought the lighting was from the hammer especially since i'm pretty sure mew mew.. I mean Mjöllnir translates to lighting.

My rampant speculation, the Soul Gem is in Mew Mew, and Hela knows it, and nukes its shell to get it out for her nefarious ends. I hate to push a crazy internet theory, but THANOS as an anagram, particularly after the Hammer gets popped in the trailer, looks more and more plausible.
Thor 1: Mew Mew rejects Thor using it (at elder being Odin's behest) because his soul has not been up to snuff with his pride and vanity overtaking any goodness. Thor has to prove his soul is up to snuff to get it back to beat the DestroyerBot.
Avengers 2: Cap has a pure enough soul, but his human coil is too weak to handle Mew Mew, so he can only budge it. Thor LITERALLY gives the Mind Stone a SOUL when he smacks Vision's head in the third act.
Its not beyond me to think that Hela is in the same class of elder being as Odin or Thanos, who are old and powerful enough to casually handle the gems or create artifacts from them (Tesseract, Loki's Staff, Mew Mew), perhaps Agamotto obtained this same level of power when making his Eye.

Acronym, not anagram.

While I'm not thinking this is the case, we don't know Hela actually destroys Mjolnir, it could be a powerful illusion. I don't know the Thor comics that well, so don't know if that's her thing, but if Loki is involved, it certainly is his. If it is a trick, Thor could simply not think to call Mjolnir back after seeing it destroyed, or there could be other magic involved which keeps is masked and unable to return at Thor's command. That seems like a less powerful way to achieve the same effect as destroying it, and not having to worry about Hela being powerful enough to destroy it for real.

Wow, my interest went from meh to sky high with that trailer. Really well done.
Ditto. The Thor movies have been my least favorite of the standalones, far less than Captain America or Iron Man, IMO, and neither the new director (whose What We Do In the Shadows I could not finish) nor the casting of Jeff Goldblum (whose quirky too-fast talking in Jurassik Park and Independence Day annoyed me) inspired much confidence in me.
But this trailer is pretty awesome.

I'm pretty sure it meant "grinder," and has the same root as the English word miller (referring to the production of flour).

Correct. Possibly more like 'crusher', but these things rarely have a 1:1 correspondence from one language to another.

So three of my friends from Oz have noted that the trailer has a very '"'straya'"' feel to it, especially the arena scene.
I wonder if Hemsworth had more 'creative license/freedom to improv' than the first two...
The Planet Hulk / Grandmaster bits did have a bit of a Mad Max / Thunderdome vibe to them.
Ooh, I just imagined Tina Turner as the Grandmaster. I think my heart stopped for a second...
