The Planet Hulk / Grandmaster bits did have a bit of a Mad Max / Thunderdome vibe to them.

Ooh, I just imagined Tina Turner as the Grandmaster. I think my heart stopped for a second...

Then you certainly wouldn't need another hero. Sorry, someone had to say it...

Tar,

I'd just need more cars maybe?

So, would cars be . . . Thorly missed (or mithed, if you prefer)?

I'll . . . see myself out.

Thorly mythed?

....THAT was horrid, Kahnya...

I'm pretty sure it meant "grinder," and has the same root as the English word miller (referring to the production of flour).

I thought Gnasher and Grinder were the names of his goats.

Damon,

Yes they are. Toothgnasher and Teethgrinder.

Switching to comics for a moment: One of the things I love about the Odinson being unworthy and not able to fly around with Mjolnir is that we get to see the goats. So cool.

Thejeff,

The goats are an improvement, this is true.

Different words.

As I said, finding 1:1 correspondences between languages is virtually impossible, and in any language I know of there will be some semantic overlap between certain words.

Hmm wiki has like a list of several different names for it including grinder lighting fire grind stone rock and thunderbolt. depending on which language your coming at it from.

I didn't realize that there was a bit of doubt about whether "hamarr" meant "hammer" or "stone (tool)." Unfortunately the Eddas didn't come with illustrations.

I just wanted to check back in and say I've re-watched this trailer a number of times that some poeple would think is unhealthy.

Naturally, those people are flat-out wrong.

I had to stop watching the trailer because I was pretty sure Blanchett was bewitching me with her Hela smile. {swoons}

Ambrosia,

Yeah she does tend to do that.

Tell me about that...I am going to start hoping Hela wins...

It is going to be a Hela of a movie.

Don't bother, Mad Comrade. Sharoth has a License to Pun. He's just doing his duty by Paizo's Special Service. You get used to it. Eventually. Slowly.

Anyways, IF Hela wins, I won't object to that since she seems like a better villain than what we got in Thor The Dark World.

What was wrong with Loki?

John,

I didn't say "Better than Thor or the Avengers". I said "Better than The Dark World. Unless you're suggesting Loki would supposed to be the main antagonist.

I want the middle three hours to be a roommate comedy with Thor, Hulk, and Darryl. The rest can be this... magnificent thing that deserves to be painted on the side of a 1970s van, and I mean that in the best way.

Red,

I think I'll settle for the first part being a Marvel Short.

Depends. Are we adhering to a strict defnition of the word "Short", here?

Well I don't think it needs to be longer than 20 minutes, does it?

I am old. I can't watch the Thor & Darryl comedy minute. It's just so painfully un-funny to me. Maybe it got good at the end, but as far as I've been able to watch it (and I've started it three times, only to have to stop it and go watch Archer or something), it was just cringe-worthy, like an episode of Big Bang Theory.

Still, the Ragnarok trailer indeed rocks, so I'm hoping for more of that, and less of awkward roommate sitcom.

Set,

That's why I suggested a Marvel Short. You don't have to watch it but someone else like Red could.

It was a joke about how the main villain was utterly forgettable.

There was a main villain in Thor - The Dark World? Really? Damn. I guess I need to rewatch it.

Malekith, the Accursed. Leader of the Dark Elves of *insertsomenorsenamehere*

No, I didn't wiki it.

I blame old TSR Superbeing appendices...

Okay I get it now. But regardless, while he is forgettable (even by me!) Malekith is the villain. Just not the villain we needed for a second Thor movie.

Also I love the Thor rant. :)

Malekith is actually a great Thor villain. From Simonson's classic run and even in the current series.

I'll agree he didn't work that well in the movie.

Thejeff,

No I agree he's a great villain in the COMICS. He just wasn't that great in the movie.

I just hope they hammer in just how awesome Hela can be.

Hey everybody, according to this, Dwarves made Mjolnir.

Wei Ji, the name you are trying to think of is Svartalfheim.

Dwarves forged Mjolnir in mythology too. In the comics, Odin added a number of enchantments to it, including the "If they be worthy" thing.

Sorry about that, when I was posting that my brain kept trying to go Svartafarfulnugensomething and I wasn't going to go look it up and be a liar. :)

At least it wasn't Slartibartfast. :) No problem, I've typically got a good memory.

Don't forget the dwarves also used a dying star that killed the dinosaurs to forge it.

I haven't forgotten that either. It's called Uru-metal in the comics, but it's apparently stabilized neutron star matter.

John,

Which is just as cool as adamantium or adamantine. Or even vibribranium.

As I understand it, you just need the star's heat to work Uru, it's not actually made out of the star.

Of course that's a fairly late addition to the comic mythos anyway. Other hammers and things forged from Uru don't seem to have needed it - Beta Ray Bill's Stormbreaker or Eric's Thunderstrike, for example.

I always thought Thunderstrike came from a piece of uru used to forge Mjolnir...

Yeah the appearances of two of the Heralds of Ragnarok...THAT alone makes me want to see it even more. :)

Oh and that face-off with Thor and Hela? That's just what the doctor ordered.

Did Thor enter the Avatar State? This film just keeps getting better and better.
