How do I get to 32 caster levels in one character?

What it says in the subject. I'm considering animating a ship.

Assuming max 20 levels.

20th level caster
+4 Prayer bead
+1 Ioun stone

What else?

Be level 32. There are rules in place for leveling past 20.

Otherwise, it may be too difficult to get the caster level that high. Though something like a Wish might be able to accomplish what you need for you.

There's also Varisian Tattoo, and we can't forget Spell Perfection.

EDIT: Also, have a friend along with Allied Spellcaster

Hence the question.

Not sure how spell perfection helps, but the tat does. Gets us to 27 with allied spell caster.

Does allies spell caster stack if you have more then one casters help?

20th level caster
+4 Prayer bead
+1 Ioun stone
+ 1 varisan. tattoo
+ 1 allied spell caster

Edit:

Gifted Adept (Magic Trait) and Signature Spell (Regional Trait) could be taken with Additional Traits. Both increase the chosen spell with +1 caster level.

Edit2:

Ring of Tactical Precision raises the numerical bonuses granted from teamwork feats by 1.

Spell perfection doubles set numerical bonuses (from feats) to any aspect of the spell. It should apply to Varisian Tattoo and Allied Spellcaster. That should get you to CL 29...

Spell Perfection:

Benefit: Pick one spell which you have the ability to cast. Whenever you cast that spell you may apply any one metamagic feat you have to that spell without affecting its level or casting time, as long as the total modified level of the spell does not use a spell slot above 9th level. In addition, if you have other feats which allow you to apply a set numerical bonus to any aspect of this spell (such as Spell Focus, Spell Penetration, Weapon Focus [ray], and so on), double the bonus granted by that feat when applied to this spell.

if you are mythic, using either Heirophant or Archmage abilities give CL+2

Spell Perfection should double the bonuses to caster level for the spell.

Does allies spell caster stack if you have more then one casters help?

20th level caster
Spell perfection (indicated below)
+4 Prayer bead
+1 Ioun stone
+ 2 varisan. tattoo
+ 2 allied spell caster - 1 ally

Total 29

Pretty close

That would get this to CL 31...if I can do math.

Math:

Be level 20: +20
Have Prayer beads: +4
Have Ioun Stone: +1
Have Varisian Tattoo: +1
Allied Spellcaster feat: +1
Spell Perfection (doubling Varisian Tattoo and Allied Spellcaster: +2
Mythic Stuff: +2

Total: 31

One to go!

I think there is a trait that allows you to have a +1 higher caster level for a certain spell.

Trying to avoid mythic if possible.

Alternative: Be a witch...they get animate objects as a spell.

Then get the Coven hex and some buddies (already have one for Allied Spellcaster, right? Why not a few more, say from Leadership?)

I know, I know...Leadership is a bit taboo sometimes...

If it just has to be for the one spell:

20 - Level 20
4 [Item] Prayer Bead of Karma (all spells, 1/day for 10 minutes)
1 [Item] Orange Prism Ioun Stone (constant)
2 [Feat] Spell Specialization (Animate Object only)
1 [Feat] Varisian Tattoo (all Transmutation)
1 [Magic Trait] Transmuter of Korada (all Transmutation)
1 [Religion Trait] Shaper of Reality* (any Transmutation or Conjuration, 1/day)
2 [Class] Potent Magic (req. Arcanist or Exploiter Wizard)

*Note that while these are both traits, they each provide an untyped bonus to caster level. There are many traits that boost caster level with an untyped bonus, Outlander is another good one (+1 CL to three spells on your class list).

This will get you to 32 with as generic a set of boosts as possible, so you aren't specializing super-hard into one utility spell.

Or, for the low, low cost of being a Witch, with the Coven hex, this thingy and Leadership (and the ship smelling like a great deal of cheese):

Get 12 low level witch followers with the coven hex within 30 feet of you (net +12 to CL).

Then animate your ship...or something bigger with a few more minions I guess.

EDIT: spelling and such

There's a few other ways to qualify as a witch for the witch coven bit. I know there's a sorcerer bloodline, and I think the changling race has some racial options there.

Depending on your reading of the coven hex it could mean witch only spells.

Also, some issue with qualifying for coven formation without the collar thingy, which explicitly removes the need for an actual hag (which might be hard to come by).

I'm unsure if other methods can work around requirement of having an actual hag quite so...easily?

An Orange Ioun Stone increases your Caster Level by 1 normally, but if you put it into a Wayfinder, it's resonant power let's you add "1d4 - 1" to your caster level instead.

Scarab Sages

As an aside, the Hag's Coven is specifically only 3 hags. Not sure if the intention of the Witch's Coven Hex is intended to allow dramatically larger covens....

is the spell school you care about necromancy? death whine and death knell are both spells that i use to boost the caster levels on my animate dead. you could probably get some favored class bonus, like dhampir curoromancer wizard does for +5 at 20th. i also didn't see anyone list bloatmage initiate.

Caster bonus is in addition to the coven itself. The coven itself or need for a hag is actually arbitrary.

Effect: The witch counts as a hag for the purpose of joining a hag’s coven. The coven must contain at least one hag. In addition, whenever the witch with this hex is within 30 feet of another witch with this hex, she can use the aid another action to grant a +1 bonus to the other witch’s caster level for 1 round. This bonus applies to the witch’s spells and all of her hexes.

You'll probably want to be a Witch 13/Noble Scion 7, with Leadership and cohorts that are Witch 9/Noble Scion 10. Don't forget to use Reduce Person and Fly on your witch buddies, then fly 30 feet up into the air so you could have a sphere of witches around you. Your coven will smell like a gouda battalion, but you will be able to animate Howl's Moving Castle and some broomsticks to spare.

Animate Objects animates one Small object per caster level. A Colossal object is equivalent to 32 Small objects. A ship is a Colossal object, thus it can be animated if you can animate 32 Small objects, which requires CL 32.

Nethys' third boon for deific obedience lets you had 1d4 caster levels to a spell.

Possess Object is necromancy. A dhampir Wizard can use their FCB for +1/4 CL to necromancy, getting an extra +5.

It's a Paizo PRC. Accessible by level 5, only requires skill ranks, a certain background, and Skill Focus or Noble Scion (the feat).

Truth be told, you don't need the Noble Scion levels, It might just be better to go Witch 20. However, your cohorts need Noble Scion 10, so they can have cohorts that are the exact same level and build as them.

Ah. Yeah, that makes more sense.

Though if the idea is just using aid another to increase caster level, there are a few other classes that can do this. The two subdomains of Magic have abilities like that and there are others.

I like this with just one problem; animate objects is not on the arcanist spell list, so you'd have to pull some other shenanigans to use Potent Magic. Instead, be a cleric with the Flotsam subdomain (of water). That makes animate objects a domain spell and you can take the Beacon of Faith [Faith Trait] to boost the CL by two once a day. You would have to take the Extra Traits feat at some point to do this.

I presume you are planning to get permanency cast on the ship as well, so I agree with Athaleon that you want to be as generic as possible so you aren't stuck with too many feats you don't need afterwards.

5 cleric 5 wizard 10 mystic theurge plus the items you mentioned adds up to 35 caster levels. >.>

The Exchange

Here's a modified version that can get this done at a MUCH lower level. It does require some help from a friend and a significant amount of money for that level, though.

You are an 11th level Half-Elf Cleric with the Flotsam subdomain. Today you prepared animate objects, death knell, and paragon surge.

You know a friendly cleric of the same sex and at least 11th level with the Allied Spellcaster feat who prepared animate objects and sharesister today. He/she imbues a Ring of Tactical Precision with Allied Spellcaster and hands it to you.

11 - Level 11
4 [Item] Prayer Bead of Karma (all spells, 1/day for 10 minutes)
3 [Item] Orange Prism Ioun Stone (resonating in a Wayfinder for 1d4-1 caster levels. If you don't roll a four, try again tomorrow.)
0 [Feat] Spell Focus: Transmutation (prerequisite for next two on the list)
2 [Feat] Spell Specialization (Animate Object only)
1 [Feat] Varisian Tattoo (all Transmutation)
1 [Magic Trait] Transmuter of Korada (all Transmutation)
1 [Religion Trait] Shaper of Reality (any Transmutation or Conjuration, 1/day)
2 [Item] Ring of Tactical Precision
1 [Item] Aether (drug that increases CL by 1 - found in GMG)
1 [Spell] Death knell (poor bunny rabbit...)

You cast paragon surge and choose Extra Traits as your feat.

2 [Faith Trait] Beacon of Faith
1 [Regional Trait] Secrets of the Impossible Kingdom (animate object)

Your friend casts sharesister targeting her/himself and you.

2 [Spell] Sharesister (CL 11)
-----
Total = 32

So the only things you end up "stuck" with are Spell Focus, Varisian Tattoo, and the Magic and Religion traits - which apply to ALL transmutation spells - and Spell Specialization (which you can change to another spell next level).

@Belafon

As long as we're doing drugs, why not get som Mumia too for +1 CL, instead of Varisian Tattoo?

I was planning on doing spell research to get Animata Objects for a wizard in this scenario. I never understood why it wasn't on the wizard spell list to begin with.

The traits don't stack.

While the individual traits seem typeless, all traits, unless otherwise specified, give Trait bonuses, not untyped.

Noble Scion increases your effective leadership score. This allows for more followers to use with the CL boost of the coven hex.

Is leadership really needed for a one-off casting though? Wouldn't paying some casters to help out be just as effective? And a lot less, er, build-heavy.

Do you really need the caster levels, or do you just want to animate a ship.

If it's the latter, you just need a level 18 Aether Kineticist with Aether Puppet as long as the ship is Colossal or smaller.

Humbug.

Sounds like you need a leyline, if you find a big one you can get a +5 to CL while you're attuned to it (caster level check, must be within 100 feet). IF you're part of a coven then you count as attuned if at least 1 coven member is within the 100' range and the rest of the coven members are within 10' of the attuned member.

Do you have a source for that? I believe it's actually the exact other way around as some traits do specify that they give a trait bonus but many do not and would therefore be untyped unless there is an overall rule somewhere.

PRD wrote:
Many traits grant a new type of bonus: a "trait" bonus. Trait bonuses do not stack—they're intended to give player characters a slight edge, not a secret backdoor way to focus all of a character's traits on one type of bonus and thus gain an unseemly advantage. It's certainly possible, for example, that somewhere down the line, a "Courageous" trait might be on the list of dwarf race traits, but just because this trait is on both the dwarf race traits list and the basic combat traits list doesn't mean you're any more brave if you choose both versions than if you choose only one.
