Hey everyone! I'm looking at making my first Society character, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what class to play. I want to play a class that specializes in martial combat, but also has a decent amount of skills. I have access to the Core, Advanced Race Guide, Advanced Class Guide, Ultimate Magic, and Ultimate Intrigue. Thanks ahead of time!

Fighter with skills?
Vigilante and Ranger are best at that. Ranger gets fewer feats, but has spells, a pet, and can skip a few critical feat taxes. Vigilante is a Fighter with a Rogue skillset and some really neat talents.
They both get 6 skill points per level, but Vigilante can probably spare more points on INT.

Having never played in PFS before, I'm not too certain on the ramifications of the roleplay of something like the Vigilante. Do you think it would be difficult to utilize both personalities?
Personally, I like to roleplay vigilantes in adventures as always in their vigilante identity, then at random points in time my social identity shows up and "helps out these poor adventurers" or tasks them with jobs that would boost my vigilante's renown.
Eventually I'll reveal my social identity to my party as a huge "HOLY S@** IT WAS THAT GUY ALL ALONG!?" moment, especially since (thanks to my epic GM) none of them know I'm a vigilante, they all think I'm a rogue.

There's also an Owl Style feat chain in Ultimate Intrigue that lets you use your BAB in place of your ranks for Acrobatics, Stealth, and Fly in order. Also, a feat that lets you substitute BAB for Intimidate ranks. With those, you can potentially get another 4 ranks per level as well as a few other benefits.

Interesting. Also, the advanced weapon training options eventually let you use BAB as skill ranks for two more skill, based on the weapon group your training is in. So by level 9, you could have 6 skill using BAB instead of ranks (although you'll need 1 rank in most to qualify for the Owl Style chain and/or get the class skill bonus)

Look a fighter with 14 int gets 7 skills, it's skillful!
Oh wait, a slayer with 10 int gets 7 skills and bonuses to skills.
Oh wait, a ranger with 10 int gets 7 skills and bonuses to skills.
Oh wait, a Vigilante with 10 int gets 7 skills and bonuses to skills.
All of which gets tons of feats and other class abilities. I mean I guess the fighter works, I just don't see any reason you'd pick it over the actual skillful martial classes.

The Lore Warden gets bonuses to all intelligence based skills. The 14 intelligence is not only granting skills, it means he's better at those skills than the 10 intelligence characters.
The Lore Warden has powerful class abilities. Very few builds can match a Lore Warden at combat maneuvers. Knowledge checks grant bonuses to both to-hit and damage. The Lore Warden retains Weapon Training as a class feature and access to fighter specific feats (e.g. Weapon Specialization).

Yeah, if you want a pure martial with good Knowledge skills, Lore Warden is the way to go, because it gets all Int-based skills as class skills, and gets bonuses later for identifying monsters.
If you're focusing on other kinds of skills, go with a different class.

Are you saying the lore warden has an in class bonus to all intelligence based skills or that since he has a 14 he has a bonus to them? Because those classes can just as easily take the 14 int and then have even more skills and the same bonuses, plus class features that boost skills.

Very interesting...
Any idea which advanced weapon training allows that, and what feat gives BAB in place of intimidate ranks?Imbicatus |

Well, they get all Intelligence skills as class skills, not to mention they can take Versatile Training to get the equivalent of 6 ranks per level, or 8 if they take it twice.
Chess Pwn |
so 1 feat at lv5 to match the base of the other classes with no int, and trade out WT at lv9 to match the base of the other classes had with the same int.
So an INT 14 lore fighter can have 8 skills per level at lv9
A 14 INT Slayer, ranger, vigilante has 8 skill ranks per level at lv1.
If I were needing All knowledge as class skills I'd dip for it. 1 level of bard, investigator, oracle.
Note, I'm not bashing on the lore warden, it does somethings quite well and is a good fit when it's a good fit. I just don't see it as a generic fit like these other classes that are better at skills while still being full BAB.
Perfect scholar monk or unchained monk also works really well for this martial with skills idea. They also get all knowledge skills as class skills and get bonuses to all knowledge skills like a bard.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see an ability for Unchained Monk that gives them all knowledge skills as class skills and with bonuses...

Ah, I missed that. What book is that from? I don't see it on the PFSRD, and I can't find it in Google search

From inner sea intrigue.
A perfect scholar adds Knowledge (all) and
Linguistics to his list of class skills, instead of Intimidate
and Perform.
At 3rd level, the perfect scholar gains a bonus
equal to 1/2 his monk level on Knowledge checks and can
attempt Knowledge checks untrained.
This ability replaces still mind. For the monk from
Pathfinder Unchained, this ability is gained at 4th level
At 4th level, when the perfect
scholar misses with an attack roll ..., he gains a +1 insight bonus
on his next attack roll... against the
same target attempted in the next 24 hours. An individual
target cannot be affected by this ability more than once
in a 24-hour period. At 6th level, and every 2 monk levels
thereafter, this bonus increases by 1.
This ability replaces slow fall. For the monk from
Pathfinder Unchained, this ability replaces the ki power
gained at 4th level.
Eye of the Sun and Moon (Ex): At 17th level, a perfect
scholar can read all languages and write all languages he
has read or heard.
This ability replaces tongue of the sun and moon. For
the monk from Pathfinder Unchained, this ability is gained
at 13th level.
And a capstone change.

There is also advanced weapon training that you can get at level 5 for a feat. One of the options is to choose 2 skills (Bluff, Intimidate, 2 others depending on your weapon group), and treat those skills as class skills and have them have ranks equeal to your BAB.
My human raised half orc effectively gets 7 rank per level with 14 INT (12+2 from headband)

Anyone blowing an AWT feat just to get 2 skill points is kind of crazy. There's so much better things to get...like Warrior Spirit. Esp since you're going to have to wait until level 10 for a Lore Warden to get your next one.
The skilled Martial classes are Vigilante, Stalker, and Ranger.
Ranger for PFS is probably ideal for you, if for nothing else then you can easily use CLW wands. FE HUman, Undead and Evil Outsiders will take you through most modules pretty well.

well its a lot more than just 2 skill points and far better than things such as deceitful, skill focus and others. Also in a PFS game you never know what you are going to get. You can be sitting with a bard band table one session in a combat scenario and playing with team 7 int, cha, wis barbarian group in a wedding scenario.
The other thing is that a fighter will almost always be able to contribute in a fight. Skill points allow the fighter to contribute in those wedding, dinner socials, and funerals and help the party towards success in more than one way.

You're getting two skills with number of ranks equal to your BAB, so they're still going up even if multiclassed. Any existing ranks already in those skills get applied elsewhere. Getting Versatile training once bumps fighter up to be almost as skillful as cavaliers/barbarians/bloodragers/gunslingers. Getting it twice (as early as level 9 if not picking up second weapon training) makes them as almost as skillful as rangers/slayers/vigilantes/investigators. It's a pretty strong option for those wanting fighters with lots of skill points.
Warrior Spirit isn't allowed in PFS.
