Two questions regarding one of Crowe's powers. On his Mauler role card:
'Before you act, you may deal 2 electricity or force damage to all characters at your location to add 1d8 and the magic and electricity or force traits to your combat check.'
1) Is this only for a single combat check?
2) Does the damage type dealt to the characters determine the damage die added to the combat check? In other words, if he deals 2 force damage to everyone is the 1D8 die automatically a force die?
As written, the answers are Yes and No, respectively. I am just wondering if rules as written is not rules as intended in this case and the power is errata'd or should be errata'd.

Agree with your synopsis of RAW, in that it is Yes and No respectively. I suspect #1 needs an errata to apply to all combat checks for the encounter due to taking place BYA (so it is only possible to use it once per encounter even on a multiple-check card).
For #2 I suspect it's good as-written. The wording to ensure the damage types are the same would bloat the card and doesn't add a whole heck of a lot of gameplay anyway -- most characters are not resistant to either of those two damage types. Therefore, allowing for abstractions, the cleaner wording at the expense of being able to choose differently for both damage instances seems fine to me.

Hello Vic, in regards to the fix mentioned in the FAQ:
Resolution: On the Mauler side of Crowe's role card, change "Before you act, you may deal 2 Electricity or Force damage to all characters at your location to add 1d8 and the Magic and Electricity or Force traits to your combat check" to "On your combat check, you may add 1d8, the Magic trait, and the Electricity or Force trait; if you do, after the check, each character at your location is dealt 2 damage of the chosen type."
I was wondering if you considered that this would make the power no longer mesh with another of Crowe's Mauler powers:
Before you act, reduce damage dealt to you by 1(then 2).
I always believed that these two powers would go hand in hand. Once you have both powers for reducing damage, you could then add a d8 without consequence to yourself.
What do you think?
Thank you for you help!

I would say that it isn't too big a deal to just go back to his power being "before you act" and adding to any/all of his combat checks, and just fix the clarification that the type is the same.
"Before you act, you may deal 2 electricity or force damage to all characters at your location to add 1d8 and the magic and the chosen type to your combat checks."
Or make his reduce damage power be for both BYA and damage from your own powers.
"Reduce damage dealt to you by your own powers or before you act by 1 ([]2)."
Or take advantage of the powers relative positions on the card:
"Reduce damage dealt to you by the above power or before you act by 1 ([]2)."

It's quite a difference to someone standing next to Crowe (or to a Crowe without the reduction feats) either taking 2 damage or 4 damage when he is making two combat checks in one encounter. So I wouldn't have it extend to all checks as that's a buff from the intention expressed in the FAQ.
But any change from the wording of Before You Act does prevent it from being reduced by certain powers which are not exclusive to Crowe. Blight Scout Adowyn comes to mind most quickly.
Perhaps something like "Before you act, for each combat check you will attempt in the encounter, you may deal 2 Electricity or Force damage to all characters at your location to add 1d8 and the Magic and the chosen trait to that check."
