Recruitment for GiantSlayer

Recruitment

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Come one come all and lets get ready to slay some giants. That's right I'm coming out of retirement to run this great adventure path here for 4-6 of you.

I had been running games on this site for about two years when I met my wife and life got to busy for me to continue running games. In my prime here I was running something like 10-12 games at a time. I don't have time for that type of commitment right now as I work and am going to school at the moment but I think 1 game, especially one as awesome as this is looking like its going to be will be no problem.

So what do I want from you guys? I would like you all build characters using the following criteria:

Any source book found on the PRD.
20 point buy
2 traits(one from the players guide)
Max HP
Average starting wealth

I also want you guys to develop a pretty good backstory. See the players guide for some good hints on where to start fleshing out characters. I don't need fully completed characters right now but if you want to throw up an alias and have the time to do so that would be acceptable.

I know that most DM's are pretty rigid about other guidelines but I'm going to be pretty lax. I am only going to be able to post between the hours of 11 Am and 3 Pm cst and that's depending on my homework load at school so I'm not expecting posts every hour or anything like that but I would like this game to progress at a fairly decent pace. Weekends I will not be able to post at all as I spend time with my family on the weekends so I don't expect my players to post but if you want to roleplay and develop party dynamics on the weekends that would be fine. Just don't expect me to advance the story any until 11 Am Monday morning.

Recruitment will be open until Tuesday unless I see some shining examples of characters and decide to close early. I'm looking to take 4-6 players and am looking for a fairly rounded party(face, tank, healer, support).

If you have any questions please let me know by posting here or PMing me and I will be checking back here possibly tonight after my exam but defiantly tomorrow after 11.

What do you want from us if we choose to use 3PP?

Doesn't look like 3rd party is an option. The PRD isn't the PFSRD(where the 3rd party stuff is).

I might just bring out my Halfling monk for this game. :)

Yeah, I keep getting those two confused.

Dotting.

As you know, there is another recruitment going on. But since the competition on that one seems to be killing (and the GM said to prefer some people) chances of getting in there are pretty slim.
So I will put my Hunter dwarf here as well. His stats would get an upgrade, but the rest would be pretty much the same. Hope you accept my application like this Mathpro :).

The Dwarf Hunter and his companion will function pretty much like tanks with some druid spells in there as well. I am taking heavy armor proficiency on the dwarf and sticking some armor on the mastodon as well.

Ooo, tempting, very tempting. Let me think really hard and I might have a go at this!

Edit: an all-dwarf party would be epic! The Brotherhood of Boulder-Lovers!

I'm thinking of a gnome slayer (bounty hunter), a guy whose family was slaughtered by giants, driving him nearly into Bleaching, who has been working as a catch and debt man for the local crimeboss. If a chance for vengeance against giants came along, he'd be all about it.

I didn't even sign up for that other one, as I can tell his style it is not my style by reading up on things and his other games. As I know this is a new adventure path and plenty of recruitment threads will be seen for this game.

edit: Am I going to be one of the few that doesn't submit a Dwarf? I understand the logic behind it for both roleplay and mechanical reasons, but an all Dwarf party sounds, well boring.

Personally, I am more interested in a half orc or Oread.

Very interested. Just reading the player's guide left me with a lot of different ideas to roll with off the kind of Celtic aesthetic I'm getting the vibe of. Problem is those ideas pretty much span every possible role, so I'm going to have a lot of trimming and light fleshing out to do on all of them to see what takes me. One in particular that might be a bit "out there" and heavily hinging on taste would be a Bladebound/Kensai Magus very, very influenced by Highlander (in the Celtic katana user sense, not the "space aliens lopping each others heads off" sense). I know some DMs aren't too fond of characters based heavily on other influences like that, or in eastern weapons, so figured I'd ask before I went anywhere with that one. If it cool--I've got other ideas--I just figured I'd give it a shot before I get too attached to it and get shot down.

Quick opinion poll, brawler or skald?

I'd considered looking at brawler again, mostly cause it was such a good fit for my Halfling. With two, we can tag-team and topple Giants! But with a skald, all of our melee fighters(including summons from Monster/Nature's Ally) can be incredibly fierce.

Hedelle Syl is a Metal Oracle of Gorum, whose family escaped enslavement in Nex only to be consumed by a band of ogrekin. Hedelle was orphaned by this, ostensibly being raised by Katreza at the sanctuary in Trunau. Hedelle has been both blessed and cursed by Gorum after seeking his aid in defeating the hated giants who destroyed his family. Hedelle's skin/bark is shot through with iron-like shards, slowing his movement, but making him slightly tougher than your average Ghoran.

More detailed backstory to come, but wanted to submit what I had so far.

Silver Crusade

I am considering a viking themed fighter type, or a ranger (protector of the people) type.

those are my preferred option...however I could make a wizard seeing as lots of people have proposed melee characters..

Grand Lodge

Recycling a character from an old homebrew game from a long time ago for this AP! I have to re-flavor him for the setting of Giantslayer, but the crunch is already done. Please let me know if that part of it looks alright.

The basic story idea that I have coming along is that Songan, a Catfolk Bard (Archaeologist) w/ Artifact Hunter for his campaign trait, grew up as an orphan, using his natural charm to help him get the things he wanted, but he loves to read about far-away places and adventures and stuff like that, particularly stories about exploring hidden temples and stuff for the treasures held within. Eventually he departs his home to look for said treasures and it leads him first to Trunau as a means of getting to the Mindspin Mountains.

Songan is meant to fill the roll of party knowledge base and trap disabler.

Thinking enchanting sorcerer...

Dotting... Looking at Bloodrager

Grand Lodge

Question, DM Mathpro: I use HeroLab for character creation and the default setting for HeroLab's encumbrance formula is to take into account the weight of any gold carried by the character. Do you want me to leave that as-is or do you not consider the weight of carried gold in encumbrance?

At first glance, it looks like Undefoot Adept and Monk of the Empty Hand won't stack because they alter the Bonus Feats a monk gains.

However, since one simply replaces the first level bonus feat and the other adds options at level six, I was wondering if I could use them together anyway, if that would be alright.

question, are you ok with reskinning of weapons? I want to play an elf fighter I had, but I had higher stats to work with, I would basically just reskin the elven curved blade into "elven knight's blade" which would look thematically like a bastard sword, (or the sword in the image on this guys profile) but work like a ECB. Its a small thing but some GMs are picky :P

Dotting. will have a concept up tomorrow.

Just noticed one thing... when you say anything on the PRD, do you mean all Paizo material, or just the paizo "core" books? My concept pretty much requres the Giant Slayer's Handbook.

I would like to second this as I would like to use an archetype from Advanced Class Origins.

Count me in for the grumpy dwarven ranger with 5 Cha out to kill giants.

Deepwalker infiltrator and trapper archetypes on the table.

Moving to skyseeker and heavy armor prc for endgame.

note I will be using this fellow, or a swashbuckler.

This sounds great. I think I'll put up a Dwarven ranger.

Nohwear wrote:

Eh, while I find the appeal of choking out/punching out giants absolutely fantastic, Skald just seems like one of those stupidly-fun things to me.

But in a similar vein, trying to decide between Dwarven Cavalier, Human Witch, and Changeling Bloodrager. All of them have crunch ready to go. Just need to get the background Giantslayer specific.

Dotting.

I like the idea of an all-Dwarf crew, so I may work on one of those. Themed groups are the best groups!

What are the guns like? Rare? Emerging? Common?

Appearance: Andrea is a slender woman of about middling height and weight with pale skin that has been roughened by life at sea. Her blond hair is cut short and kept under a kerchief and she has a rather decorative series of tattoos across her skin that combines waves, skulls and ghostly figures. Andrea says that it has taken numerous sessions to get the work done and might just add some more. She is often dressed in plain tunic and breeches along with sturdy boots. When attending to medical duties, she wears a clean but stained smock with numerous pockets and scrupulously sharp tools.

History: Andrea was born the child of a Bloodmother, a woman whose function was to bear children for the church of Urgathoa for the purposes of sacrifice or induction into the faith. Just like her mother, Andrea had no last name since it was deemed unneeded for her role as acolyte.
Andrea's life in the church was notable since she took to the appreciation of undeath not as the dirt, mold and gore spattered stereotype of ghouls and zombies, but the clean, polished lines of bone. Andrea appreciates a fine feast but channels her desires into finely crafted meals and liqueurs, abodes are clean and quiet,(except for the occasional moan) with neat racks of skulls, bones and workshops of meticulously cared for equipment.
The elders of the church believed that Andrea would best be served as an emissary and infiltrator and thus she was sent to establish a foothold in areas where her faith was not prominent. She was told not to spread disease or undeath, not to preach to the masses or commit atrocity, but to seek to establish herself in a position to allow others to safely spread throughout the region. Assuming a position of use and influence would suit her purposes perfectly and so traveled to Trunau to establish herself as a healer.

Okay -- I have done some work on Dundin Larringfass.

I have him adopted by the Halfling innkeeper in town after the wholesale slaughter of his clan. Background and appearance are mostly done and the crunch is mostly done.

Went with ST=15; CON=16; DEX=14; WIS=16; INT=12; CHA=5. 17hp
Traits are Glory of Old and Roll with it (campaign)
Feat is toughness just because he is dwarf :-)
Dwarven Infiltrator who has decided to learn from giants so he can kill them better. It the party has no skill role, he can add the trapper archetype to disable traps a bit too, but I am hoping he can keep his spellcasting.

DM, please let me know if this background is sufficient or you want more detail. Can we get an extra trait for a drawback that matters?

How about an oldy but goldy.
I present Mitleid dwarven cleric of Torag. Crunch will follow

ill here is my concept have him for another Giant game but all I will need to change is stats for this one let me know if you need anything more

Korvin Sangre

if needed I can post several times a day since I have the way finder app now ^_^

Hmm, I kind of want to play a spirit summoner, but I know how some GMs feel about that class so I might play a human hunter instead. I'll have crunch, backstory etc up when I can find a strong theme.

I'm going to have to say no to Summoners and Gunslingers for this module.

I'm fine with Neutral characters but would prefer players stay away from evil ones.
I'm fine with non-core races but would prefer to stay away from custom built ones. Players should limit themselves to races that are 20 RP or less.
I'm fine with Oriental material/characters that is Paizo produced but there has to be justification for them being in the Inner Sea Region rather than the Tian Region.

I actually throw out encumberance all together as I find it a bit of a clunky rule. Yes I get the concept and what its trying to do and I will say if I find your character walking around with a moble army on his back I will put a kabash on it but a 10 strangth wizard shouldn't be crippled at the start of the game further than he already is just because his gear is to heavy. Just PLEASE keep things reasonable when it comes to gear.

Awesome! Ok so, my buddy jooker and I are going to do a two-man team here, so we'd definitely want to be chosen together if you like our concept.

My guy: I'll be playing a wayang rogue (Vexing Dodger archetype from the Giant Slayer's Handbook) who also dabbles in alchemy. He'll be a wise-cracking little cuss with a knack for getting his friends out of trouble in a pinch. His focus will be on riding on his buddy's shoulders into combat and jumping over onto giants and messing them up.

jooker's guy: A large, brutish oread fighter (Titan Fighter archetype also from the Giant Slayer's Handbook) named Grok who speaks little but carries a big... actually quite massive... sword. He'll be using a Large-size greatsword that he stole from a giant camp.

We'll work on more detailed backstories and make profiles for these guys over the next day or two. Here's hoping we get picked!!
