Good stuff, Flasholol. Now I really hope you manage to finish him in time. I particularly liked the loon in the prison.

Cheers

For a minute I thought he was talking about my character.

I know what you mean, but would Aerik have a book ever? I admit it is a good hook for me.

This has definitely been the best recruitment process I have done which shows that the boards are busier than ever. Kudos for Paizo for letting us do this on their forum too.

Istiel Jadanas wrote:

A few weeks after leaving the ruins of home, Istiel first heard the name of Kagan the Blooddrunk, the orc warchief who boasted of the deed. The trail was old, but all indications were that Kagan was headed south, towards Greatwall, so Istiel followed.

After arriving, she made contact with Banwom Jamu, the alchemist-in-residence at Greatwall. Given the hostility, he was happy to take on a journeywoman as an assistant. In the last month, they have become good friends. When her work allows her time, she has used it to seek word of Kagan, and during her forays in search of materials, she has come into her own as a druid.

Profile updated for this character

Sweet. Banwom Jamu sounds Baklunish, probably comes from from Ket or Tusmit? . Do you want me to consider this your Recognition in Greatwall or are you planning something else to fulfill that.

I think Ket would be closest. I'll probably add to it tomorrow a bit, but it's getting close.

Liberty's Edge

Alright so that bachelor party went on all night and I ended up late for work because of it. No sleep just a quick change and back to the grind.

If someone could be so kind as to post how many skills a paladin gets and what I've got to chose from, as well as starting equipment. With that I should be able to pull something together before the deadline. Thanks in advance.

The Exchange

I admire your keenness Flasholol.

Paladins get

Armor: all and shields
Weapons: simple and martial
Tools: none

Saves: Wisdom and charisma
Skills: 2 from athletics, insight, intimidation, medicine, persuasion and religion

Equipment
martial wpn and shield OR two martial wpns
5 javelins OR any simple melee wpn
a priests pack OR an explorers pack
chainmail and a holy symbol

Hope that helps

Very, thank you. I believe this should about do it.

Just need to add 1st level paladin abilities which will have to be added later. I don't believe I have to choose anything at level one as far as class features go.

Also need to change the Avatar for this alias.

Well, the character is finished. I have added a trinket, as well as Appearance and Origin (basically background) information. The Recognition is in his Origin story, near the end of it. If anything is missing or not clear, please let me know.

Thanks.

I'm checking all the characters tonight and tomorrow, after the recruitment closes. Everyone has a couple of hours to finish tinkering etc.

Cheers

Gamer Guys (and Gals)

I plan to discuss individually how to mesh the characters with the plot and Greatwall in more detail afterwards.

Tomorrow I'll sift through all the characters, this weekend I have spent odd moments deciding what the criteria for selection will be. Perhaps more importantly which ones are more important than the others.

Here is my final list, its very subjective but I'm showing you this so that you realise I will not just be picking buddies. However by the same token if I know someone from other games I will probably score them slightly higher in some categories because I know what they are capable of.

1) Background
2) Posting count - not number so much as frequency.
3) Quality of posts
4) Character's X Factor - likeability/contribution to party dynamics
5) Character's power, skills and abilities
6) Player's general level of experience
7) Party balance

Like I said, its my opinion and this is an attempt to give everyone a fair shot. The result will not please everyone, that's not possible this time round but five plus reserves will be fairly chosen.

I do not envy you making such decisions. There have been many good submissions. Good luck to all!

So here we go, gamers. First and foremost thank you applying to my game.

Before you read too deeply into my subjective views remember that I do not get asked to join every game I apply to. Far from it. So take this all with a pinch of salt, especially the criticisms.

But I spent the morning checking alias', other games and scoring each of you that completed a character. I don't intend to release the final scores because that may create bad feeling and resentment something which I rather avoid. Having taken some of the emotion out of my decision, I ultimately came to the following choices.

Sadarr the dragonborn paladin of Istus. had the best background for this game, scranford. I particularly liked the use of Morgorath which showed a fine knowledge of Greyhawk and Istus. The wide range of abilities in the character will help I’m sure.

Aerik Bear-born the human cleric of Kord again a strong well written background that showed you knew or researched more of the Lands. Plus he fitted so well into the feel of Greatwall. I felt myself starting to write and rewrite parts of the adventure to suit your guy. Well done.

Isandril Velahrn the grey elven fighter (eldritch) is a cool dude and your writing is inspirational. Looking through your posts for other characters this morning you have written some good stuff. His mixed skills and fighting ability plus the way he seamlessly fitted into the stronghold scored you a bonus point or two.

Eisen Sybil the half elven paladin, short and sweet. There is humour in much of your writing and your dark sun campaign shows how well you can post. Plus Eisen and the mad loon is a hook I can grab for and use alongside what some of the others above have written.

Victor “Vic” Lofliss the half elven rogue did well because his skill set is ideal for the adventures to come and the story about how he gained notoriety in the town showed class. It wasn’t gonzo, it fitted. Also your posting is second to none in terms of consistency and frequency, you always manage to write something. That will hopefully energise me and them even more.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Istiel the druid was one point below Eisen and Vic. Istiel had a good skill set, your game as DM Nerk showed you can write and your background was one of the best. But it came down to something indefinable (for you), they were the hooks and ideas that didn’t quite fire from your druid like they did for the ones I chose. This is very opinionated and I apologise if I have offended you, that was not my aim. Therefore having thrown mud at you, I hope you will be my first reserve because if anyone drops out I’d like to PM you? Also there is the faint chance that this group will get the snot kicked out of them early on and I may decide to offer you as an extra body.

Omar and Tolach you both lost out to a combination of better or more “interestingly detailed” writers, slightly better character designs and some stronger knowledge or research of Greyhawk. Your scores tied and I’d like to thank you both for taking the time and trouble for applying to my game. My advice to you both is read up on some of the other characters that the successful ones have made in the past. Making a 3D fully fleshed out character takes a little more time and effort to hone.

Next up is the discussion thread, go say hello and get to know each other, I'll be along sometime in the next 24 hours to move things along.

Best luck to you guys.

@ French Wolf:
One side effect of GMing here is that I know how difficult it is to choose between candidates, and there is no question of offense. I know that you have to choose what you think will make the best group and there's no malice in the choices you make. I hope the campaign is as fun as it sounds like being, and I'd be happy to jump in as an addition/replacement should the time comes that one is needed.

Very well then, good luck.

Great! Looking forward to it!
