This is getting too silly.

Nothing and I mean NOTHING says servant of Good like riding a Celestial Dire Ape or T-rex.

Unicorns taste like chicken.

I'd go with the Pegasus.

For future reference, type:

[ url=www.whatever-you-want-to-link.com ] something about what it links to [ /url ]

Anyway, now that the (rather pointless) rage is out of my system, I do have to say that the kirin (as printed in PF) is certainly one of the best options. My king in Kingmaker managed to transform his horse into one (though actually, it's his champion, the Stag, that rides it). :D

A big large Spider all black and glossy. Like little contrast since you are holy looking.

Drowadin mount of choice!

Because mules are Bad Ass, amirite? (See what I did there?)

Seriously though, some paladins are humble. Not all, but some. And also mules are humble but also awesome.

A hat for your mule is optional but highly recommended.

I can't imagine any Paladin (man or woman) on a Unicorn unless they were part of the Order of My Little Pony.

Maybe PF has reskinned unicorns to try to make them cooler, but the only thing I picture is sparkles and rainbows and the like when it comes to unicorns. I don't think you could ever run out of ball-busting material if one of your fellow Players chose unicorn as a mount.

You should read more Pathfinder Tales, then... One of them includes a pretty badass Paladin on a equally badass Unicorn.

Honestly I have not kept up with them. Which one is this? Yeah I might look into it.

Well, if you're a fan of old school Forgotten Realms, then it's this.

If however, you're a fan of Greyhawk it's this.

Whoops! That last was not a pegasus, but you get the idea. How about this one?

Ok, so it's not a paladin. But it is a pegasus. Use your imagination.

Finally, there's this. I vote pegasus on that basis - those teeth!

Obviously, the best option is this. Or maybe this.

And that's how Elmore makes his money!

Hopefully Ninja-Assassin is happy with this post! :-)

I vote the Warhorse.

neither!

unicorns are chaotic creatures first off, and Pegasus are so cliche i would never take one. unicorns are for druids so stop stealin the treehuggers flavor you imposing bastard.

Griffins are awesome in concept but horribly difficult to play. lets add ariel combat mechanics to it all with a carnivours mount that brings with it arial superiority. throw in some magical investments and buy your GM a bottle of asprin cus he will need it. sure it looks cool but the effect on a gaming sessions results in less fun more often than not by the bogging effects of such a complex mount. been there, done that, never again.

A beast of burden is most suitable for paladins and an intelligent one with a pension for the comical critiquing of his master makes memorable moments you'll be telling at geekouts. doesnt have to be a horse neither (boooooring), i personally played a paladin with a elephant for a mount and it was awesome. lots of hitpoints and if you ever seen an elephant in real life slap someone with their trunk and send them flying 15 feet you know that the mechanical version is very accurate hehe. plus sitting attop my steed slinging dictum like spells and subjecting my enemy to the justice of my god was strangley...appropriate. now take leadership and have archer squires riding with you...RAAAAAWR!

but if you reeeeealy wana up your status as a paladin accept no less than a good aligned dragon. hell, the story about how you even got one to serve as your mount should be awesomely memorable in an of itself.

I can't really argue with this. Blue goes better with most paladins' dress codes than gold does, anyway.

Blue is indeed the preferred choice of fashion conscious paladins.

Oh...oh...

All that blue just reminded me:

Dragon horses!

I'd say the Dragon Horse works well for this purpose.

Colour is based mainly on the symbol of the paladin's deity. I've seen green work, and rose. Can't find the imagery right now though.

And if you wanted to go all TV Tropes - black is the best colour, and also might save you from some smite good attempts.

Forgive me if it has already been mentioned since I only skimmed through the posts, but based on Hitsugi no Chaika, I'm going to have to vote pegasus. UNICORNS. ARE. EVIL!

The temperament is a bit of a deal breaker though.

That is why you're even more badass for subduing one.

Only if they have the half-fiend template!

No half-fiend template required. It's just a setting where the fae/fey creatures (among which the unicorn is lumped in) eat people

hrrrmmmm..... lightning dragon.....full plate..... riiiiiiiight lol

ummmmm a pegasus or unicorn...

well in its a half celestial unicorn that has wings and flies than the unicorn.

if not than the pegasus.

myself,
a hippogriff or a griffin

Chaotic Evil Mad Scientist Necromancer Wizard says, "Why not both?" Kill them, lop off some parts. A little thread, some glue and black magic from the abyss and you have yourself a Unisus! Or a Pegacorn if you so desire (horns detachable).

In seriousness, I'd say unicorn. There's a reason Voldy drank it to keep himself alive. Magic goodness of awesomeness.

Liberty's Edge

So, has there ever been an official statted winged unicorn, whatever the name?

In Pathfinder or any incarnation of D&D?

I once had a donkey named Hotay :)

Anything, from gelatinous cubes to snails and golems can get wings with the half celestial template. Horns are much more difficult to add.

I think this fits the bill perfectly:

Half-Celestial Unicorn

For clarity: "They universally shun all creatures except for good-aligned fey, good-aligned humanoid women, and the woodlands' native animals, though they may fight alongside other good creatures against common enemies...On rare occasions, lone unicorns without mates or whose partners have been slain have been known to adopt young women of exceptionally pure virtue as surrogates, allowing the women to ride on their backs and becoming their guardians and protectors for life. This bond generally ends amiably if the woman becomes more committed to someone else—such as a lover or child—giving rise to the myth that unicorns only befriend virgins."

So promiscuous paladins of Arshea can totally ride a unicorn as long they're women for whatever reason. Removing the Virgin=Pure thing is fine because of Paizo's commitment to gender equality but it also removes the reasoning behind why unicorns only like women.

As to the OP's question, a winged steed just seems more heroic. so yeah +1 vote for the Pegasus.

Assuming that this paragraph is talking about a male Unicorn that lost a female mate, is it feasible that a Lady Unicorn that lost her Uni-Husband would similarly adopt a a young man of exceptionally pure virtue as a surrogate?

Because I just had a neat idea for an expy of Sir Galahad du Lac.

Yeah, if your paladin is a female, preferably an elven female, or if she has the trifecta, elven female virgin, THEN she can ride a unicorn. If she doesn't have at least one of those characteristics: i.e. male paladin, go for the Pegasus. My 2 cents. But then, I'm a bit of a traditionalist.

Silver Crusade

Surface-to-air unicorn, with horseshoes of the zephyr enchanted with air walk.

My 3.5 paladin, Lori (short for Gloria Mundi) had this as her bonded mount. When the DM realised that the charging pair did over 350 points on an average, non-crit charge, it's amazing how many 5-foot wide and 2.5-foot wide corridors we suddenly had to negotiate.

When I realised the effect this was having on the campaign, I had them ride off into the sunset.

Literally.

Davor wrote:
It depends on the paladin. More fragile, or otherwise more Fey-like motifs would work well with a Unicorn, while the more traditional Paladin works better with a Pegasus or Griffon. I DO like the idea of a Paladin riding a Warg, though, with the intention of redeeming him.

Maybe a paladin should ride a Calistrian in the hopes of redeeming him/her.

There was an issue of Dragon magazine with an entire article on variant unicorns, including winged ones. Issue #190; the one with a sea serpent attacking a viking ship on the cover.

I think the PDF is available online, if you hunt around a bit.

Purple Alicorn with a tattoo on it's flank.

I never really understood the whole "Warhorse = Cool" "Warhorse with a spear? = Too girly omg" schlock. Really never made much sense to me.

I'mma go with a tribal-style paladin with a white tiger mount! Or maybe a white dire wolf.

It depends on the race of the paladin, and the most iconic mounts by race in my imagination are:

dwarf paladins ride moose, elven paladins ride tigers, gnome paladins ride kangaroos, half-elf paladins ride unicorns, half-orc paladins ride elephants, halfling paladins ride boars, and human paladins ride pegasi.
