Characters you've had.

Too many to count. Some notable ones.

Panelon Stultus - male human fighter
Annie - female gnome summoner (Yes, LoL Annie, with Tibbers)
Durngrim - male half-orc paladin
Svietus - male elf magus
Aurora - female elf ranger
Aurora - female elf druid (Yes, I LOVE the name AURORA)
Garulk - male dwarf fighter

Quote:
Their sexes, ages, sexualities, attractivness level and what sort of attractive they are? Tomboyish girls, manly men, pretty boys, super lovely curvaicious ladies.

Panelon - regular Joe kind of guy. Got to be king. Fell in love with a wizard. Took him months to win her heart.

Annie - Completely asexual. Got proposed by gnomes a lot. Turned them all down.
Durngrim - Enormous, ridiculously ripped and relatively good looking for a half-orc. Noble visage. Married to his church. Did discover joys of sex later into the game.
Svietus - Loves the girls. Uses his high Diplomacy and Bluff to well...ahem. Good looking, tall, pretty face. Purple eyes.
Aurora - Amazonian beauty. Still feminine. Likes shorter men. Got married to a human in the end.
Aurora 2 - Petite and weak, insanely hot. Imagine a tiny Adriana Lima. Gay. Likes female humans best. Had a hard time finding a stable partner.
Garulk - straight as an arrow. Ripped for a dwarf. Married with kids.

I'm male, straight, and 45. For the most part I play male characters (when I get to play which isn't all that often) but I've played a few female characters over the years and a number of entities that had no gender as well.

I'll have to dig out some of my notes to go into detail. I do know that they've varied from insanely good-looking sexually dynamic characters like Aerryeon to horribly disfigured dwarven fighters and the gamut in between.

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Hm, interesting thread topic.

I'm a heterosexual male myself, but honestly I tend not to even think about my characters' sexuality. I do visualize their appearances and know their personalities, but I don't really treat their sexuality as being part of the game.

Even so, here's some samples:

Thomas, the Tiefling Hero! - Male tiefling, LG cleric of Iomedae. Average height, solid build, intelligent eyes and an all-business expression. I guess he's the exception in that I did have at least a passing thought about his sexuality: he's heterosexual, but due to being an oni-spawn (aka "hungerseed") tiefling, he's chosen to remain celibate so as not to loose control and hurt (physically or emotionally) someone he's trying to love. I guess that could change if he found someone he thought could handle him, but I haven't given it that much thought.

Elsbeth Tanner - Female human, NG fighter. A little bit short, but athletic. Very plain features (except her reddish hair, which she's rather fond of) and a matter-of-fact demeanor. She carries an air of practicality about her; no time for "pretty".

Arlyn Swallowtail - Female human, NG sorceress. Happy, smiley, friendly. She adventures in a big, poofy, pink-and-purple dress. A natural beauty, but very approachable due to her casual manner.

Rixis - Male kitsune, CN bard (arcane duelist). Vastly favors his fox form, only shifting to human if absolutely necessary. Not terribly muscular, more of an acrobat and pretty-boy (and show-off). Wears flashy, almost gaudy clothes. Very relaxed and indifferent to things that aren't his concern. Adventures with his twin sister Reese, who's more quiet and bookish.

Questionably straight male.

I don't remember all my characters, so I'll just list a few that I do.

Darvesch Now, this is the name of two separate characters. I love the name, though I have no idea where I got it.

The first iteration of this character was a LG dwarven fighter/cleric (with levels in dwarf paragon from UA) in a family 3.5 game. He was in his 40s or 50s, and played not unlike a Klingon (duty, honor, glory, etc.) Damn if he had a spectacular death though! An ancient red dragon decided our group would be his play-things, and we might be tasty too. After a hard fought battle began to look like it would be the end of our group, Darvesch decided to wait until it was going to breath fire to jump into its gullet. (We were playing with a rule where, if a magic item is destroyed, it explodes, dealing d6's of damage based on value). The dragon's head exploded, killing Darvesch in the process. Needless to say, his looks and sexuality weren't much of an issue.

The second iteration is also LG dwarf fighter/inquisitor (not multiclass, this one is gestalt) in a current(?) PbP. This Darvesch isn't nearly as tightly wound as his predecessor (believe it or not, DM!). His elven "cousin" gets in enough trouble to keep him busy, and he wouldn't have it any other way. Though, he does take his job and duties seriously, he has been busy building a training facility for others like him. (I actually hope we get to continue the campaign at some point. HINT, DM!) He has had a fling with a companion NPC female human, and was last trying to develop his relationship with an NPC female dwarf.

The odd thing is, I can't really recall my other characters. I typically play wizards or psions, and the dwarf fighter is the only I remember. lol

I'm just curious.

I am a 28 year old straight male.

My most-fleshed out characters:

Seth Namelocke. Straight half-elf male. Rogue/Bard(Dervish Dancer)/Shadow Dancer. 27 years old when I started playing him, 45 years old when I last played him. As far as attractiveness, picture Seltyiel with black hair and a goatee. Married to KrystalinRae Moonwhisper, my wife's female elf Sorcerer/Druid/Mystic Theurge who is 130 years old.

Oli Purlo. Straight 30-ish human male. Monk/Rogue gestalt. Carbon-copy of Brad Pitt's character Mickey from the movie Snatch, looks and all. Womanizer.

Ivan Rûski. 140 year old elven male alchemist. Straight, but has little to no interest in sex. Tall, gangly, and unkempt appearance. Reeks of chemicals and vodka.

Dorian Belmont. 30-ish damphir inquisitor. Possibly bi-sexual, but haven't decided yet. Would rather avoid romantic entanglements so he can focus on his work. Attractive with long, curly black hair, red eyes, and sports a musketeer-style mustache and goatee.

So, in summary, all male and usually straight.

Spoiler:
Myself: mid-20s, male, heterosexual bordering on asexual.

My more well-used characters:

Daniel Lovoth, NG male human artificer/paladin (D&D 3.5, homebrew setting), 30 at the start of the campaign (campaign ended at age 37), heterosexual. Moderately attractive, medium build (180 lbs, 5'11"), fair skin, auburn hair, green eyes. Pretty much a stereotypical paladin, dressed in shining plate mail, carrying a huge sword and a flintlock pistol. Occasionally charming, but more often flashy bordering on obnoxious. Gender/sexuality/attractiveness never came up in-game.

Mike O'Neill, male human smart hero/fast hero (D20 Modern, zombie apocalypse PbP game), 22, heterosexual. Average-looking, medium build (160 lbs, 5'10"), brown hair and eyes, medium-to-fair skin, heavily tattooed. Couch-surfing punk rocker turned zombie killer. Outwardly bold, concealing inner uncertainty and self-consciousness. Plot thread developed involving a romantic relationship with a female NPC, but was barely touched-upon and eventually dropped.

Vilya the Taker, CN female human rogue/binder (modified Pathfinder, two different homebrew PbPs), 29, heterosexual. Exotically attractive bordering on unsettling due to bound vestiges, black hair and eyes, tanned/olive skin, slight build (120 lbs, 5'4"). Unpredictable and vindictive treasure-hunter, dressed in gaudily-colored but reasonably practical clothing, carrying a small arsenal of weapons. Gender/sexuality/attractiveness never came up in-game.

Corvin Killgannon, CN male human fighter (D&D 3.5, homebrew PbP), 27, heterosexual. Plug-ugly, dirty, tall, and scrawny (150 lbs, 6'2"), with blue eyes and long blond hair, and wearing a suit of rusty spiked armor magically fused to his body. Kind of an a+%@~~@, extremely reckless and combative. Gender/sexuality/attractiveness never came up in-game.

Keegan Cawley, N male human rogue (vanilla Pathfinder PbP), 25, bisexual. Average-looking but very unkempt, slight build (140 lbs, 5'10"), tanned skin, black hair, brown eyes. Dressed in dirty leather armor, carrying a morningstar and a bow. More than a little unhinged, but always loyal to the party. Plot thread developed involving a romantic relationship with a female NPC, but the game ended shortly afterward and it was never expanded upon.

Vitalia Cardona, LG female human fighter/paladin (later hellknight) (homebrew Pathfinder, also PF PbP), 41 (30 in the PbP), homosexual. Moderately attractive but with a disfiguring facial scar, medium build (145 lbs, 5'9"), with short-cropped black hair, brown eyes, and olive skin. Wears gray scale mail (later Hellknight plate), carries a longsword and heavy shield. Withdrawn and somewhat socially awkward, but loyal to her friends and always willing to do the right thing. Gender/sexuality/attractiveness never came up in-game.

Now that I think back on it, I don't think sexuality/relationships have come up in-game more than once or twice for me in 15 years of gaming. I tend to play most of my characters with their gender/sexuality in the back of my mind, but I never make an issue of it unless prompted/asked. I tend to place a premium on story, then gameplay, with characterization dead last (probably just because I'm really bad at the role-playing part of RPGs).

I'm a post-transition transwoman in my 40s.

Quote:
Your sexuality?

Exclusively gynephilic. (ie straight pre-transition, lesbian post-transition)

Quote:
Characters you've had.

Pre-transition, I rigidly alternated the genders of my characters. With a few exceptions, it is probably fair to describe these characters as slightly more attractive than average. I did not tend to push the boundaries in terms of sexuality/gender role/gender identity with my characters -- with the single exception of the psionic, ex-shapechanging were-eagle rune mage who only spoke in rhyme I created in the 80s (for a GURPS Fantasy game) after I was accused of only making 'weird' characters. So I decided to show them what an actual weird character looked like. Zie was notable for being completely oblivious to gender and referring to all beings as 'she'. (Gee, I wonder what issues I might have been working through...)

Post-transition, I only play female characters. I played male for >35 years...never again.

Here are my Pathfinder characters:

Viriel Half-elf Ninja/Witch/Arcane Trickster (Jade Regent)

She's very cutesy -- a cross between Elle from Legally Blonde and Catwoman -- and notorious in our group for making Sneak Attacks with her (pale green) hair. She has a very relaxed sexuality (raised in a brothel) but is completely Ameiko-sexual. Her entire goal in life is to romance and marry Ameiko, and she formed the elite mercenary company Viriel's Vanquishers for the express purpose of impressing her.

Zerazinn Human (Varisian) Staff Magus/Flowing Monk (PFS - Shadow Lodge/Silver Crusade)

Plain, stoic, and probably asexual. Though human, she is of Fetchling heritage, and dresses in all black, with the exception of a single pink streak in her hair. She is all business and most concerned with making sure none of her companions are left behind.

Sarkaira the Golden Aasimar Celestial Sorcerer/Mystery Cultist of Soralyon (PFS - Osirion)

Radiantly beautiful in an inhuman and holy fashion, and essentially *post* sexual. She has one foot in history and the other in Heaven, and so spends very little time thinking of earthly matters.

Lazha Heartspray Half-Orc Cleric of Naderi (PFS - Taldor)

Lazha is an attractive soft butch, and though it will probably never come up, she is trans-am (ie trans amorous, ie attracted to transwomen or extremely feminine men). As a Cleric of Naderi, her non-adventuring profession is that of Couples Counselor. She provides support for couples in non-traditional relationships (such as her parents -- a loving (probably Dom/sub) female orc/male noble human couple) to help ensure that Love Conquers All. And if love doesn't...well, she is also an End-of-Life Counselor who can help provide the means for you to end it all romantically.

Cinnamon Oskrev Changeling Rakshasa Sorceror (defunct Curse of the Crimson Throne)

Cinnamon is an extremely-attractive, painfully-thin hustler. After a life on the streets, she had a conversion experience and became a Cleric of Sarenrae. Unfortunately, she was also a drug addict, and at a low point in her life (directly before the start of game) she relapsed, left the church and began developing her own inborn magic. She is a user (in all senses of the word) and uses seduction and sexual manipulation as her first and second attempts at getting what she wants. She is effectively bisexual, but what her actual *preference* is, I'm not sure.

I'm just curious.

Me? I'm a straight (mostly) guy in my early 20s.

Of the 9 characters I have on the Paizo boards, only 2 of them are male.

In no particular order:

Alara Dawnchaser: My CG elf ninja girl for Jade Regent. She's very graceful, smart, a brunette, charismatic & a bit childish. She's had a string of relationships that didn't end so well before she came to Sandpoint, and now she's in a happy relationship with the party's Bard. He's mute, communicates mainly with a chalkboard, very fluent in Sign Language, and nothing less than an absolute gentleman. She also has a major crush on Shalelu because she saved her from being killed by goblins on her way to Sandpoint, and is quite conflicted over it. Bisexual.

Triel Siadon: My CN drow oracle of Battle for Rise of the Runelords. Tall, dark, snarky, clad in enough armor to make half a muscle car and packing a greatsword for the glory of Gorum (who she's honestly not that fond of). She keeps her face hidden behind a closed-face helmet to keep the townsfolk of Sandpoint from recognizing her for who she is. She's quite eloquent when you can get her to talk, and she currently has the party's wordcasting sorcerer interested in her. She's 6'4'', well-built and quite beautiful under her armor. She places highest priority on survival, with relationships a distant third. Bisexual, though she's just starting to discover it.

Tassira Vantyev: My NG human stormborn sorceress for a mythic homebrew campaign. She suffers from nightmares revolving around an apocalyptic storm that caused magic in the setting to gradually die off. Quite shy before she turned mythic; now, I'm planning to have her come out of her shell more. She's brainy, brunette and beautiful, but she also has a knack for attracting the wrong sort of attention. Sexual orientation unknown.

Victrix Bloodmane: My CG angel-blooded aasimar barbarian for Wrath of the Righteous. She was basically a Kellid/Sarkorian child soldier for the Crusaders before the events of the AP, and now is working on getting the party safely out of the warrens under Kenabres. She's managed to get Anevia, Aravashnial & Horgus to work together with reduced bickering, and she has a talent for befriending the mongrelmen under the town. Brawny, redheaded, muscular and beautiful, in the young adult range. Bisexual, but right now would rather have a stiff drink or ten.

Jaina Swift: My LN ifrit monk for Skull & Shackles. A pirate girl with a fondness for brawling & a low tolerance for BS, she has some controversial ideas about the freedom (or lack thereof) of everyone who lives in the Shackles. She hasn't yet spoken of them, but it's only a matter of time until it comes up. She's lived a rough life and she has the burning red hair & scars to show for it: she's the lowest charisma character I've had so far (12 CHA. Yeah, I know). Not sure what her sexual orientation is.

Lia Vantas: My NG half-elf magus for another homebrew campaign. She's mostly friendly, but tends to clash with the party's ranger on the subject of magic. She's strong, blond and rather cute, but can be very naive in the ways of the world. Heterosexual.

Carina Viera: My NG daemon-spawn tiefling alchemist for Age of Worms. She's sassy, smart and good with bombs & medicine. Quite pretty, too; the party's warpriest of Kord certainly thinks so, even with her red skin, pointed ears and tail. Has the highest CHA of the team, by far. Heterosexual.

Cassiel Hawke: My LG human inquisitor of Sarenrae for Carrion Crown. He's a cocky, snarky fellow who tends to bicker with the party's ranger. For the most part, he's quite charming when he wants to be, and handsome. Heterosexual, but so far married to his job of seeking out truth.

Mach Star: My N pitborn tiefling rogue for Shattered Star. A consummate street rat, he enjoys thievery, thumbing his nose at the law and flirting with pretty folk. Gets along best with the party's aasimar urban druidess. He's an albino person who looks like he just crawled out of a grave, but he can be quite charming when he puts his mind to it. Bisexual.

Everyone here is in the young adult age category.

I'm a heterosexual male. My characters tend to split fairly evenly between male, female, and alien enough sex isn't relevant. That last group tends to default to male because that means one less thing for me to keep track of. Age is similarly variable, with pretty even distribution across the board.
I default to average/slightly above average appearance, and rarely if ever deviate from that. I'm more inclined towards rugged good looks and physical fitness than other types of attractiveness.
Sexual preference for my characters is almost always "none", or at least "not right now". The two most dominant personalities in my gaming group both tend to play charismatic pretty characters who sleep around a lot, so I tend to play against that type to help draw the game direction away from being a soap opera. My characters are at most open to romance but not actively looking for it. When they have a sexual preference at all it is almost always straight, because I'm already in uncomfortable territory and want to keep things simple.

a sampling of my characters:

Littor (Skull and Shackles): An orphaned ratfolk necromancer and devout cultist of Charon. Biologically quite young, but unnaturally mature for his age. If he were cleaned up, he would actually by somewhat cute by ratfolk standards, but he's constantly dirty, wet, and covered in tattered robes. He views sex as a distraction for less enlightened individuals.

N.I.G.E.L. (Eclipse Phase game): An artificial intelligence with no fixed physical form. He is quite interested in learning about human interaction, and would be open to a relationship with just about anyone, but I wouldn't really describe that as a sexual preference.

Michael Notoli (Rise of the Runelords): Michael was an attempt by me to play against type a bit. He was in his late teens (human), classically handsome and quite muscular, and had a crush on a female party member, although nothing ever came of it.

Dash (placeholder name, upcoming replacement character for the same Rise of the Runelords game): Dash is a tall, lanky, half-orc who probably could have been handsome at one point before a long series of scars and other injuries. He also dresses in clothes that are deliberately clashing and unsettling. His sexual preferences are wide open, but he doesn't value sex above any other type of physical pleasure and has no interest in a relationship.

Dawn (homebrew Pathfinder game): Dawn was an early-20s-equivalent aasimar with golden skin and fiery red hair. She was attractive, but in a largely unearthly way that occasionally unsettled people. She was theoretically interested in men at a later point, but wanted to sort out her ancestry first to find out exactly what bloodlines she was in danger of passing on.

Wynneflock (homebrew Pathfinder game): Mid-30's-equivalent tengu merchant, she was actually quite attractive by the standards of her species, but dressed to de-empahsize it and look older because the "grandmother crow" look was good for business. In mindset she was one of the more romantically inclined characters I have played, but it was never relevant because she wasn't interested in males of other species and we never encountered other tengu.

Quinray (Council of Thieves): Late teens, athletic and moderately handsome. Started human, but believed strongly in reincarnation, and went through orc and lizardfolk during the campaign. He was a true romantic, and would not have been interested in sex until he found his soul mate. Due to the aforementioned reincarnation belief, said soul mate could have been any gender or species.

I've played all of the above, in roughly equal numbers. Male/female, old/young, hot/homely. Plus various social statuses, and ethnicities where relevant. More often than not I'll roll a die on all of the above for any given character if I'm not trying to buck an accidental trend.

The sexuality (and cis/trans status) of a given character rarely ever comes up in any way in most games I play, but I'm pretty sure I've covered all the bases at one point or another, including explicitly asexual characters, and an Eclipse Phase character for whom the only answer is "very open-minded."

Sovereign Court

I'm a 47-year old bisexual male, and I've been playing since I was 13 so I have too many characters to count.

I play male and female characters, although I tend to play females more in groups I am more comfortable with. (Over the years, I've had plenty of gamers comment on how they are uncomfortable playing the opposite gender, or even playing with people who do.)

I think almost all sexual orientations have been represented in the range of characters I've played, although a fairly significant percentage have been bisexual. In addition to some strictly straight and exclusively same-sex oriented characters, my bisexual characters run the gamut from very attracted to both genders to some who are primarily attracted to one or the other.

(The one exception - I don't think if I've every played an exclusively lesbian character. I think my female characters have been straight or bisexual, except for one virgin shield maiden who was fairly asexual.)

As far as attractiveness, my characters are all over the map. I've played large, rough and tough, ugly males, smaller pretty boys, a tall and extremely attractive "super-hunk" kind of guy and plenty of average looking guys. My characters have also included large women, plain women, and very attractive women (including a stunning cleric of Hanali, the Elven Goddess of Romance in Greyhawk).

My favorite races tend to be human, half-elf, and halfling, but I've played all the major races over time. I've also played all of the traditional classes except for monk.

When I work on the back stories of my characters, I usually consciously choose gender and race, but once I have the general idea things like their personality, sexuality, and attractiveness generally flow from the story and often just seem to grow organically.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Such an interesting variety of people who play this game! :)

I'm a female heterosexual, early thirties, happily married, with one sweet little son.

As a GM I've played all sorts of characters, but almost all of my PCs have been female, heterosexual, and attractive.

I suppose I like to play on variations of who I am or who I want to be.

(One exception to the above that I can think of right now... I really enjoyed playing an ugly little male blue goblin named Blue as a PC once. He ended up falling in love with a pretty-for-a-goblin female goblin NPC, and in the epilogue to the campaign, they supposedly got married and had adorable ugly little babies.)

The types of attractiveness of my PCs have varied widely (different hair colors, builds, races, etc.), but the ages almost always fall in the 18-35 range, if the character is human or half-elf (which they often are).

Most of my variety has come from different classes, personality traits, backgrounds, alignments, etc. although I mostly (not always) play a PC that is some variant of "good," which is what I try to be IRL.
Switching from playing very lawful characters to very chaotic characters can be lots of fun, though!

I enjoy acting and improv, as well as creative writing and character design, so I really like exploring characters and relationships in Pathfinder games.

It's also fun when your husband is your GM (or vice versa). :)

One fun gaming group I GMed consisted of myself, my husband, and two other married couples, (although this group was for a Star Wars RPG, not Pathfinder.)
Lots of fun flirting/in-character bickering in that game! :)

I'm male, straight. I GM a lot. When I play, my PCs are close to 50/50 male/female; nearly always human. The last ones I can recall:

1. Rothgar (m), 4e D&D Fighter in a couple different games.
2. Barbie Benton (f), a Texan oil company exec in a zombie apocalypse Savage Worlds 'War of the Dead' game.
3. Raknar Olafson (m), Ulfen Cleric in a Pathfinder Rise of the Runelords game.
4. Shaedra (f), Cleric in a Pathfinder Beginner Box Grand Duchy of Karameikos game.
5. Melissa Tyrell (f), Cleric of the Holy Fire in a Labyrinth Lord sandbox, 'The Lordless Lands'.

Been stuck playing the Cleric a lot recently - I need to play a Fighter again soon. :)
They're almost always straight, but I've never had a tabletop GM who allowed* for romance opportunities in the game (Rothgar did get to bed the tavern wench, presumably paid for), unlike my own games where it can feature, so hasn't been an issue much. I had one very reserved female Fighter many years ago in a Midnight game, Zana Than, who could maybe have gone the other way, but it never came up, and the (female) GM never even noticed her clumsy attempt to court a male NPC by giving him presents. :)

*PC literally dragged off the street by Shayless Vinder Does Not Count. Especially when it wasn't my PC. :)

I'm Male, Straight & 47.

I'm also including my Hero/Champions characters as well - going back 15 years or more.

Ionnia: Human/Female - Pathfinder Monk/Socr. Lithe - a gymnast's build, and at this point asexual. 21 (my avatar is the closest I could find to her on the choices here)
Hitomi Onishi Human female- Pathfinder Aegis - classic beautiful slim Japanese femail. 23
Oberon Aurelius Human Male 45 year old grizzled soldier, Synthaist Summon/Paladin.
Valakar Ildos Male half elf Arcnaist. 16 - looks like a LoTR movie elf.
Vosta the Fist 19 year old human male Godling/Barbarian - Classic nordic barbarian look at feel, but that is partially an act.
Verminthrax Kobold Sorcerer/Wizard - 15 male year old Kobold.
Seeker Warforged Duelist. Male personality.

Rishandella Female, very attractive in a lizardly sort of way - half Dragon half celestial Paladin.
Calindra Female Pixie Sorcerer. Shapeshift to look however she wanted.

Penumbra - Male 31 Batman clone the classic "playboy" lifestyle.
Sift - Female 25 classic Dr Strange supermage. Attractive, but not more so than most female superheroes.
Meeb - Man sized Amoeba from the Andromda Galaxy - stretch based powers.
Black Cat - Late 30s - started play at 24. Longest played character (88-09). Martial artist with massive Ch'i powers. Ended up as the tactician and leader of the campaigns JLA/Avengers team. Gymnast build again.
Terminal Velocity 19 year old male speedster - very pretty in a boy band way. The press love him.
Angelfire Female half demon / half angel. Bi-sexual, and incredibly curvy. She was made specifically in the style of the 90's Bad Girl comics. One of the few characters where sexuality is a big part of the character.
Smokeater Later 30s male, classically movie-handsome (Cary Grant) - Fire powers, ex firefighter.
Ballistic- Male supersuit, early 40s. Ex-cop, not great looking.

So in total - 2 with out gender, 7 males, 7 females. Our games are normally PG-PG13, where sexuality and such do not come up. I try to play a range of genders, ages and styles.

Nifty topic and I agree with someone above who noted that the diversity of players is quite amazing.

Myself, I am a transgender woman just beginning my transition (well, actually, delayed at the moment due to financial difficulties - got laid off from my job). 38 years old and attracted to women (so, straight if you consider my current body, lesbian once I finished transitioning).

I almost always GM so my character list is quite small and mostly full of characters I only got to play once or twice (some I would dearly love to play again).

Grimm Spellsmith - A 3.5 Dwarf Wizard who is on my list of characters I want to play again. Straight male and relatively stereotypically dwarven, which means he's attractive to other dwarves but not to other races. His main goal in life is to start up a profitable smithy. Marriage and relationships are strictly a secondary concern.

Seerah - A human witch in a P6 pbp. Female and lesbian in a primitive tribal society so she keeps lots of secrets - her patron, her sexuality, just about everything is a secret for this character.

Syella - One of my first characters, a AD&D 2nd Edition elven fighter/thief with the personality of a kender. Outrageously flirty, but too cute and innocent to realize it. She just never realized she was attractive or that her flirting was causing problems for anyone. She was far more interested in the next adventure.

Jenna - A female half-elf Fighter/Thief in 2nd Edition. So far, she's the character I got to play for the longest time, for a campaign that lasted a few months. Hetero and reasonably attractive but more devoted to her duties as a bodyguard and "keeper" to my wife's character, an elven wild mage. She tended to take on a "big sister" role to other members of the party as well.

Male, 32, heterosexual. Been playing with my current group (with 2 or 3 campaigns going simultaneously) since I was 19 or so, so a lot of characters.

I've played a decent mix of male & female characters, with an marked tendency towards making martial characters male and caster characters female, with occasional overlap (I've had two male paladins and two female paladins). Most recent characters are a female samsaran conjurer, a male human fighter, and a male lashunta magus; future planned characters include a male human warpriest and a female aasimar cleric.

I've generally been prone towards making my characters physically appealing regardless of their sex; even the characters that wouldn't necessarily be appealing to humans were still attractive for their race. I guess I'm doing the same thing that Malachi is - the heroes are good looking unless there's a specific reason for them not to be.

By and large my characters have been straight, though only a few have actually pursued romance during the course of a campaign.

Male, 28-years-old, mostly heterosexual. Married with no children.

I mostly, though not exclusively, play 'attractive' characters because I prefer high-CHA classes like Bards and Sorcerers. For the sake of brevity, I'm going to shorten this list to simply the five most recent:

(As an aside, I almost exclusively play male characters. Every time I have tried to play a female character, it just does not seem to work. I don't know if that's a limitation of my table or a failure on my part as a role-player, but all of my attempts at female characters have had the rest of the party treating her as male.)

The 1st is a 3.5 LG Gnome Cleric whose name escapes me at the moment. As the campaign was almost entirely a dungeon crawl, we never explored the characters' romantic life in depth, but I'd always pictured him as a virgin. Had we ever had the chance to explore further, I think this is the character most likely to be exclusively homosexual - but that's hindsight. At the time, who knows? I may have given him a wife and children.

Hirskin Bloodaxe - CN Human Male Druid/Barbarian. Definitely my least conventionally attractive character - he was a 7 CHA ritualistic cannibal who found bathing unhealthy. His tribe had an attitude toward sexuality that would make labels like heterosexual or homosexual confounding. You might say 'bisexual', but even that would be barely scratching the surface of how sexual rites of passage and religious ceremony shaped their culture.

Sirinsin Oahran - TN Half-Elven Druid. (Yeah, I like Druids.) He was a young, attractive lad who was a bit short on brute strength. This was another attempt at a female character that was treated as male for so long I simply regard him as male because every one else in the game did. (When our surly Casanova-wannabe Ranger bought everybody a night in the brothel, our GM even rolled to see if s/he got a woman pregnant!) At that point my heterosexual female druid became a heterosexual male.

Fayrre Dorian - CE Human (now Undead) Fey-blooded Sorcerer. The most conventionally attractive, the best analogue I could compare him to would probably be the vampire Lestat from Anne Rice's novels. He would be interpreted as bisexual, but ultimately he was a predator through and through. The gender or even species of his quarry didn't really mater - the only thing that aroused him was the opportunity to destroy some major part of another sapient being.

Nuk Nuk - CN Goblin Alchemist. A Goblin who was trying very hard to pass for human with very little success. Technically heterosexual, but in his zeal to pass for human he had a strict humans-only rule and he was terrible at delineating genders. (Also species - he more than once confused a Catfolk for human.) This is the character I had the most opportunity to explore his sexuality, although in a strictly zany PG sort of way.

Silver Crusade

Eh. Guess I am sorta outing myself here in a way...

I am a hetero female. And let's face it, I am fairly attractive (and currently single).
Nymian Harthing the character started out as an average hetero human female rogue. Through a series of events, she became a semi-attractive half orc male and rolled with it. She fell in love with an NPC female from Crimson Throne.

My idea of sexuality and attraction are a semifluid state (straight != narrow), which means although my personal partners are overwhelmingly male, my characters have no limitation on their ideas of sexuality.

I am also posting from a gamer tavern. I see the relative inclusiveness of my fellow gamers and am quite pleased by it.

I'm a hetero male.

My characters are all over the place, mainly depending on where the muse takes me.

Current character in Rise of the Runelords is Morgrym, a male dwarf skirmisher. He's heterosexual, but has never had sex. He's a traditionalist and won't marry until he's retired from adventuring and can devote himself full-time to a wife and family. He also has a Charisma of 6. Might be good looking, if he bothered to bathe more than once a month. Struggles with an inferiority complex and a giant chip on his shoulder.

Several years back there was Killian, a male, chaos-planetouched bard. Omnisexual CN libertine. Not exactly good looking (vaguely froggish features, slim build, two different colored eyes) but with Charisma to spare (Cha 22). As long as a creature was intelligent, aesthetically pleasing to him, and interested in carnal pleasure, he might attempt to bed it if the mood struck him.

I'm just curious.

Speaking of curiosity, what documentary was it?

I’m a trans lesbian, and just in the early stages of my transition.

When I started gaming, long before I came out to anyone, I was intimidated by the stereotypes associated with (assigned-) male players of female characters, so my first characters were a bunch of fairly generic male elves: hmm, there was a wizard, a bard, a druid, and a ranger. They were all youngish (~135 or so), and vaguely but unremarkably pretty in the androgynous or somewhat girly way of, as I said, generic elves. It wasn’t for a game in which sexuality came up, and if I had been asked at the time, I would probably have guessed that they were straight.

Ideally, though, I do like my characters to reflect the sort of person I would like to be and what I would like to be able to do if I lived in a world that worked by Pathfinder rules. I got more assertive even before I came out, so my characters from a certain point have all been female. Like pH unbalanced said, after playing at male full-time in potentially deadly earnest for a couple of decades, the idea of doing it in games meant to be fun just doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Anyway, my characters now are elves or various sorts of fey, all spellcasters, female, and sharing my orientation. Since I normally play characters starting at first level, and dislike how the core rulebook handles non-human starting ages, they’re all young, in their 120s (dodeca-decaders?). They all have fairly strong personalities (so Cha 12+), are at least cute in a pixie-like way or moderately pretty (because wish-fulfilment), and femme. Since they’re fey and Pathfinder elves, they’re tall, slender, and graceful, with more delicate proportions than most human women – like some dancers and gymnasts, I guess.

Some details about specific characters:

Alisylque ArvandrielHalf-fey elf, mystic theurge (archivist/wizard)
Alis is a quiet, pixie-like librarian obsessed with collecting spells, and a bit of an innocent. As much as I blush to admit it, I suppose she might be something like a cloud-of-blonde-haired, purple-eyed, elven version of “Evie” from the ghastly Mummy movies. Alis is incorrigibly romantic at heart, but worldly enough to be cynical, and while she would be utterly devoted to any woman she fell for, there are so many books to read…

Ahaellia NimatriinalElf/fey tiefling bard
Created for an over-the-top game in which my brother and I were free to combine multiple templates to create ludicrous characters, Ahaellia is a martially-minded bard with the grace to dance through battle. Thanks to template and feat shenanigans, she is preternaturally beautiful, making mortals go weak in the knees and swoon wherever she goes. She’s a pre-Raphaelite or Waterhouse redhead, and a bit more voluptuous than my other characters, more like a normal human than an elf.

Elikiisara ThanaiteniElf wizard (primalist)
Elikiisara is formal, neat, and, incidentally, probably borders on asexual. She’s trying to organize a cabal to study primal/wild magic in the Maelstrom itself, a project she finds much more interesting than trying to find a girlfriend.

Ioxeia AndrodaixaElf magus
My character in a Rise of the Runelords play-by-post game, Ioxeia is a mysterious gentlewoman from the Mordant Spire. She normally keeps her auburn hair in a practical ponytail and her quiet good looks/cuteness behind the mask she wears like all elves from the Spire. She doesn’t mind a bit of attention in general, but she’ll gently correct a man who seems to have anything in mind beyond flirting for the fun of it. She currently has a bit of a crush on Shalelu. On the whole, she’s a composite of a classical Amazon, Wonder Woman, the heroines of Irish epic, and “the girl next door.”

Adonara StrixisElf warpriest
Probably my grimmest character yet, created for an abortive playtest group, though I’d like to revisit her concept from first level. A Calistrian courtesan, she’s somewhere between pretty and beautiful in an unremarkable way, and in conversation she's pleasant, rather than completely fascinating. Privately, she’s a dom who helps people figure out how they feel about power. Her main goal is to find enough magic (or gold to pay for it) to raise her dead lover, who died in a disaster that resulted from Adonara’s entanglement in a long, drawn-out feud in Kyonin. Once she does that, she’ll retire from official church work.

I am thinking of rolling up a trans character, having been inspired by some of the discussion in the “Homosexuality in Golarion” thread, but it would have to be someone who had already transitioned. It would be a bit too close to home otherwise, and would also feel more like I was forcing that imaginary person to stay in a place they’d rather not be.

I myself am a cis, heterosexual male. I have played a selection of characters, and here's how they distribute:

Willmagia: my current character in a big campaign. Pretty much the same as me sex/sexuality. Created as a custom race (mostly humanoid, part construct). His age is ill-defined, as he does not have strong memories of most of his childhood. His appearance may degrade the longer he survives fighting the powers of chaos.

His appearance is like a slightly stockier elf, and looks generally effeminate, with a lithe body and no body hair (unlike me, who is a few follicles away from a bear). His hair & nails are green (high copper content in keratinous tissues). He isnt particularly charismatic, or physically attractive.
He's mythic, with the source of his mythic-ness being the "curse of blending". Him (and all his ancestors, and all descendants) are part of a secret experiment to create a "perfect" sentient by combining all of them together. So him (and all his ancestors, etc...) are only attracted by races that contain genetic elements they do not already have. He is currently dating a half elf/half jorogumo. So exciting!

Johan Von Deneichen (in a Warhammer fantasy roleplay group): He is also very close to my own gender/sexuality. Moderately attractive, western european male. Not much about him has been develloped yet. He is a young 21.

Selena Starmantle: She is an average looking young human wizard. She is a young (22 years). A bit bookish. Aways being tripped up by her kitty familiar.

Albretch Von Breugel: A slightly nuts alchemist that is actually quite young (22 years), but looks like an old man (the effects of alchemy...). His lack of social skills makes him appear quite odd. He is the least sexy character on my list.

Daneal, high oradin of arshea: this is a character that sprouted from an optimization experiment. They are a hermaphroditic Tiefling with EXCEPTIONAL charisma. Their appearance is meant to be the most attractive combination of male and female features in perfect harmony (i seriously cant visualize it, but I like the concept). The character would both be extremely lawful and extremely sexual (part of their backstory is that they have several children, born of themselves and a few women). I hope to play them someday, but it's nature as a super-opt build, and the unusualness, makes it unlikely and difficult. Would need the right group.

I have a tomboyish halfling cavalier, but I havent played her much.

I do have a bunch of concepts I want to play. A sexy seductress type for one. Not being a terribly sexy/sexual person myself, it's nice to test out other points of view (though it take the right group).

I guess part of the reason I RP is to be things I am not. I will admit several are much closer to who I really am, but I am getting more comfortable, so I would like to find the right group for character experiments.

Male, heterosexual. Characters of note, but to say that the sexual dimension of the game doesn't enter into it much, and certainly wouldn't involve much detail. Also all of these characters are/may be subject to future play so I wouldn't say these were 'cast in stone'.

'One': Human, male, Fighter/Barbarian, awesome physical stats (took dual talent) but stutters around women, played as a nice guy who is socially shy and inept. I would say there is a sense of 'power' about him because he's killed some pretty tough things and is quite heroic however for him to get laid would require the woman to take the first step. His Charisma is 10 and he is Chaotic Good.

Arcael: Human, male, Imperious Bloodline Sorcerer. He is my Midguard character and has the campaign trait 'Descended from a God' as well as being an Imperious. To some he's is an arrogant dick, but he an incredibly charismatic one. Sex isn't recreation to him and he will only reproduce his line with another 'pure blood' whose lineage has been thoroughly researched. He has one such candidate in mind and is approaching the courtship like a business relationship. His Charisma is 20 and he is Lawful Neutral.

Vulu 'Wise-Lies': Female, Kitsune, Visionary Wild-blooded Sorcerer. Her character history was an escape from an arranged marriage because she wanted to see the world so she isn't keen on getting tied down into a relationship (plus I have read the Japanese legends and so will try to apply them rather than a western approach to 'romance'). Because she is a variation of a Dreamspun one of her character descriptors in human form is the 'ultimate come to bed eyes'. She specialises in sleep magic, her charisma is 21 and she is Chaotic Good.

Hetero-romantic Asexual Cisgendered Man

Early in my gaming career I was playing just men (it was early highschool, probably typical). At some point after that I branched out, cant say when. I've played in so many one-shots of non-PF games it's really hard to remember them all.

For the past few years, if I don't have anythign specific in mind beyond race and class, I roll it. (50/50 male/female, 60% hetero, 30% bi/pan, 10% homo). Often times the latter categories don't even come up and I end up rolling for it mid-game.

What I think they're getting at:
Yes, I think people tend not to make ugly women or low charisma women as characters. *breaks out the club and tiger skin* appearance is a bigger part of a woman's life than a mans.

Well, it's been my experience that most PCs created are going to be either someone you would want to be, or someone you would want a relationship with. There would have to be something attractive about the person to you to make you want to play it. However, that attraction can be all sorts of things, not just romantic-sexual.

this is pretty fascinating

I don't disagree at all. But there's another category of character I sometimes do, which is character's I'm *fascinated* by, even if that fascination is a kind of repulsion, so that I can dig in and see what makes that character tick.

Like: What would it mean to become an Oracle against your will, gaining a really odious curse (Wrecker - where everything you touch breaks) and an animal companion you loathe. (This is a character I just made, Desiree Deathrage. She is an actual hobo, with no compunction about murder.)

But I'm a writer, and that may well be more of a writer's/actor's exercise than a typical player thing. Or maybe not. <shrugs>

Gender: Male.

Sexuality: Heterosexual.

Last couple of characters:

Achilles! (TM)
Male heterosexual in his 20's with super attractive Brad Pitt style good looks. He was a super hero/reality TV star/his own brand. Had invulnerability, a high tech spear weapon and tons of appearance and manipulation powers. Plays up to his audience of women and gay men who want him and straight men who want to be him.

Mark Blackwell.
Male heterosexual. Born 1933, turned into a Malkavian vampire in 1976 at age 43, chronological age late 70s in game. Not so good looking, think the dad from A Christmas Story/Kolchak the Night Stalker. He'd lived hard and looked a bit older and not in great shape, dressed in rumpled out of style clothes including fat 70s ties.

Voadam.
Male Heterosexual. Late 30s. Viking style appearance decently attractive manly big guy with beard. Will be playing him again in our next campaign with a backstory of succubus imprisonment and so Charsima drain leaving him not so attractive, more haunted looking.

Having a charisma stat in d20 and appearance stat in World of Darkness that is part of a point buy balance and has some influence on mechanics warps a little of what people choose their characters to look like, I would guess. I know a guy for who three out of his last four characters dump statted charisma and were either socially abrasive or terribly ugly, then there was his 18 charisma paladin character who was stunningly handsome.

Tieing mechanics loosely into appearance means that you can get dump statting and power building involved in the aesthetic choice of character visualization.

Straight male.

My characters are most often the same, but I like to try things out:

  • Yvonne was an ugly, hard-bitten cleric; everyone saw her butch looks and assumed she was a lesbian, but she was strictly asexual.
  • Gilfig was an aging and overweight but forceful male cleric whose womanizing made real problems for him in the priesthood, and very nearly lost him his class features on at least one occasion.
  • Remy, the half-elf wizard, originally showed no interest in anyone, but eventually fell in love with one of Gilfig's cast-offs and became devoted to her to the point that, years later as a widower, he still had no interest in anyone else.
  • Darcy was a slim, attractive swashbuckler; the daughter of a minor noble, she defied arranged marriage and was terrified that her secret would be discovered: she was in love with one of the manor stablegirls, forbidden to her on the basis of gender and social class.
  • Altheanar was an elf noble who saw sexuality not as being based on gender but solely on dominance; when people would hit on her (i.e., act as an aggressor), her immediate response would be to soundly humiliate them in some manner. Fought a lot of duels with that PC!

    Did she win them all?

    Scarab Sages

I'm female and heterosexual. My characters tend to be predominantly female and heterosexual also, though I have played quite a few male characters as well.

Sexuality tends to be unimportant in our games, so it wouldn't really matter if I chose to play a character who was homosexual, bisexual or asexual; it wouldn't come into play. But if I did think of a character concept that included a particular facet of sexuality, I would include that without hesitation.

I usually think of my characters as somewhat attractive, but not stunningly beautiful/handsome. They are most frequently elves, and elves are described as innately attractive. Charisma is often a "dump stat" for me, unless it's a necessary stat for the character's class. I usually treat that as personality rather than attractiveness. For example, I just started playing an elf with 11 CHA, and I'm playing her as fairly physically attractive but very reserved and a bit snobbish toward non-elves.

    Jaelithe wrote:

Until I handed her over as an NPC to start a different character. Thankfully so; I'd have no idea how she'd react if she lost.

Agreed. This is a pretty interesting thread, and really shows the diversity that we have in our hobby :)

I'm a male heterosexual, early thirties, married (so awesome!), with one adorable little toddler boy. I'm extremely monogamous in real life.

I have... way too many characters to list.

On the whole, they tend to be... unusual looking, though not automatically "hideous" - in other words, they usually they have good human basic features, but unusual skin tones, hair or eye colors, or strange additional features (horns, tails, etc).

They tend to be heterosexual males with a slight bias for polyamorous or ambigiously (or "tested") monogamous relationships.

Rarely, I'll have a character who resembles me, or if I do, it's kind of on accident.

Most of my characters have odd ages, as well.

A few examples include the half-drow half-frost giant character I once played named Austikelphur Stormrider. He looked like a large, powerfully-built half-elf, but with mottled (lighter-and-darker) grey-blue skin, though the lighter areas were more gray (almost cloudy), while the darker more blue (almost navy). He was a heterosexual male, and married a half-drow, but was almost-involved-with/interested-in an assimar bard (both women were aware of this).

Another was an ambitious ranger-sorcerer gestalt named Winter Nevantree. He was not the Dragonblooded Thief*. He had solid white skin and hair, and indigo-blue eyes from his sorcerous lineage (which may or may not have included Bahamut... he didn't know). He had a... complicated web of potential relationships with no less than four very skilled, powerful women, some of whom went to lengths to "acquire" or "mark" him before the others did. He... tried to balance things as best as he could, as he was in a life or death struggle at the moment and couldn't really commit one way or the other. He was "good looking", but that's entirely because his charisma was relatively high, as a sorcerer, rather than a trait that I wanted for him.

One of the more mundane-appearing ones is my character from Kingmaker, named Minharath. He is a black-haired kalashtar, although one with heterochromatic eyes (one iris blue rimmed in green, and the other iris green rimmed in blue) with veins of silver tracery in them. While strongly sexually and romantically attracted towards various females of all kinds, he was potentially romantically attracted towards males, though not strongly. He ended up married with a child. I retired from playing him because, as a psion-wizard crafter using exceedingly cheesy (but fun!) 3.5 rules (this was before we really understood the differences of Pathfinder or Adventure Paths), he was simply too powerful for the game. He still exists, and is my back-up character, in case his "brother" (a super-buff constructed look-alike, only with short hair) is ever "killed" (there are contingencies in place to be able to rebuild him and grant his memory back. Both are described as exceedingly handsome although in different ways (one is buff, cut, and very tanned with short hair, while the other is more slim, soft, and pale with longer hair - the Stag and the King, respectively), although beyond those differences, they look identical, physically. While the King has maintained his strictly monogamous ways, the Stag has been substantially more flirtatious, and was extremely successful with it.

I played a half-human wizard of thay (the other half was mostly duergar, but also mongrelfolk** who was heterosexual and very interested... but wasn't very charming. Which is why he became an enchanter. But, as a lawful neutral (instead of evil) character... he couldn't really do anything with magically manipulated females.

I'll probably stop there, but that's only a small sampling of my characters, and not even the most diverse - just the ones that spring immediately to mind.

Oh! One more really quickly. A regular-looking guy in 4E that had my own hair and eye color, but was otherwise a bit different. He was a trickster devoted to Bahamut who, through looks and guile, seduced an evil queen and turned her advisers against each other, tearing apart her war-machine, and replacing it with a lucrative trade-road and sports industry.

    * My apologies. This is strictly an in-joke.
** 3.5 mongrelfolk, not Pathfinder mongrelfolk. Very different creatures.

Not often explored in my group, but I have ideas for most of them, so let's see what I can't expand.

    (01) - Male - 119 - Heterosexual - Moderate - Typical businessman look.
    (02) - Male - 147 - Asexual - Low - Rough, haggard, lizardman.
    (03) - Male - 42 - Heterosexual - Unknown - You'd literally forget him as soon as you left his presence.

    (09) - Female - 24 - Heterosexual - Moderate - Think Kaylee from Firefly.
    (10) - Female - 19 - Technosexual - High - Think Agatha from Girl Genius.
    (11) - Male - 17 - Homosexual - Low - On the losing side of one too many fights. Not that the ugly stick had exactly spared him beforehand.
    (12) - Male - 61 - Pansexual - Moderate - By Dwarf standards, anyways. However, very crass and rude.
    (13) - Male - 25 - Pansexual - Low - By Troll standards. Friendly by Shadow Running standards though.
    (14) - Male - 32 - Heterosexual - Moderate - Fit due to ex military training. Kinda refined. Think a younger Giles from Buffy.

Isaac - NE male human sorcerer
Shezzarin - TN female killoren archivist
Zhaorae - LG female illumian paladin
Galvanar - NG male half-orc alchemist
Gwyn - CG female naga (of the humanoid-torso, snake-tail-for-legs variety) sorcerer

Almost all my characters were young adults for their race, with the oldest being in their 30s or racial equivalent.

All either straight or asexual, more often the latter (or it just never came up, because my group tends to not do sexual/romance stuff).

I usually don't go for showy characters as far as appearance or sexuality. My cleric and my two paladins were more tomboyish simply due to being melee-oriented characters who favored practicality over appearance but they were/are capable of getting fancied up for social events as necessary. My male characters admittedly tend to be more blah, and tend to last less time than the female ones, out of some weird cosmic luck.

I don't think I've ever played a deliberately ugly character - even the half-orc - but likewise I don't play characters who are drop-dead gorgeous either. If I'm high-CHA I strongly emphasize the person's friendliness, likability, capability to lead, or ability to be persuasive or influential, rather than physical appearance.

Definitely interesting, and also wonder what that documentary was called.

    As for me:
Hetero male in his early 30s. Can't remember a large number of my characters, so will just go for the ones played in Pathfinder over the last 1.5 years or so. Most have been male.

Sharha Frostpaw: half-orc female alchemist who loved to make things go boom. Fairly attractive for a half-orc. No sexulaity (though would probably be straight).

Selvyr: aasimar male cleric of erastil. Very druid-like in personality (revering nature and such). Replaced Sharha. Straight (had a paladin cohort that was his wife). Celestial heritage was a vulpinal, so he had strong vulpine features, which most wouldn't find attractive.

Ivaldir: male dwarf fighter (archer). He was a widower who was searching for his kidnapped son. Retired after rescuing him, being replaced by the next character. Typical dwarf appearance.

Dahlia: female elf wizard/fighter/eldritch knight. No actual sexuality, but I had her leaning towards bisexual. She was rather tomboyish, starting life as an armorsmith, becoming a wizard to make magical armors (before I found out about Master Craftsman feat). Boring to play as she never got to do what she was created to do (make magic items). Typical pretty elf appearance.

Heruth Volairen: half-orc male druid. He's my character for a 3.5 game I am playing in. He's pretty massive (6'7" 360 pounds), muscular, and "manly" in appearance. Asexual in his tendencies.

Sharha Dawnray: aasimar female oracle of life. Character for wrath of the righteous. Very pretty and attractive, because aasimar. No sexuality thought of.

Heruth Volairen (again. I sometimes use the same name if I like it): half-orc male paladin (redeemer archetype). Hetero. Doesn't use lethal damage when forced to fight. Haven't played him yet. Attractive beefy dude.

Tholesh Imorozi: kitsune male barbarian. Sexuality hasn't come up. Cha of 9, so a bit plain and average, though muscular. Usually in human form, and changes into his natural fox hybrid form when he rages (will be taking the swift shapechange feat when he reaches level 6). Probably will lean hetero.

5 male, 3 female characters. I play my games over virtual tabletop (roll20) and skype. Except for the aasimar oracle, my female characters were in games where I already had experience playing with the other players (members of an MMORPG megaguild). Due to my rather deep voice, I tend to play male characters if I have no prior experience with the other people in the group. Probably a silly thing, but that's how it is.

I prefer to play female characters over male characters. It has always been this way ever since I started playing back in 1998. Up until Pathfinder, I almost exclusively played female characters. In other games, where you could choose genders, I almost always pick female characters (such as MMORPGs).

    I'm just curious.

    I'm cis male, mid-40s, and straight...ish.

My characters tend to be all over the map.

    My current characters...

Del Burblequall (PFRPG) Female gnome sorceress (elemental-water bloodline), and first mate of the pirate ship Kraken's Breath. She has long blue hair and a greenish complexion, and is very attractive. I see Pathfinder gnomes as usually being omnisexual, and she's no exception.

Dr. Stefan von Herzog (PFRPG) Male human wizard. He is an aristocratic, university-trained physician, and is rather handsome. He is also gay, although that hasn't yet come up outside of his backstory.

Val Baladin (PFRPG) Female human cleric of Desna (hidden priest). She is a very attractive young Varisian woman in Cheliax, pretending to be a bard. She is heterosexual.

Some notable characters from the past...

Aleister Ambrose a.k.a. The Professor (Amber Diceless Role-Playing) A scientist by training, he discovered parallel universes early in his career. He built a ship called the ARCADE (Asynchronous Reality Conveyance and Dimensional Enclosure) that he uses to travel from universe to universe. With his trusty laser spanner and a female traveling companion, The Professor roams the multiverse looking for adventure and wrongs to right.

Baron Drax Stryker (D&D 3.5) Male human fighter. Son of a spendthrift who bankrupted the barony then drank himself to death, Drax joined the elite King's Guard-- a squad of special forces sent out on secret and dangerous missions to protect the Realm. Hetero, and looking for a suitable wife.

Anton Bednarov (GURPS: Espionage) Male American CIA agent. Naturalized US citizen of Czech ancestry, whose parents immigrated to the US shortly after the Soviet takeover in 1968. Heterosexual. Married, no children.

Elaine Stormrider (D&D 3.5) Female human rogue/wizard/arcane trickster. On the run from the thieves guild for backing out of a job, Elaine joined a group of rebels fighting for religious freedom. She's hetero and into older men.

Daria Blackwood (AD&D 2e) Female human enchanter. Drawn into a dark conspiracy, Daria and her friends are working to stop a prophecy from coming true. Daria is a lesbian, and in a relationship with another PC.

BR-8 "Brate" (Star Wars RPG [West End Games]) Anthropomorphic security driod. Asexual.

I could go on, but I'll stop here.

    Hetero male

Characters I've made seem to be an even-ish mix of male and female. They are usually young adults, as I feel this best fits new characters. Generally heterosexual, though I've noticed that the female ones tend to be a bit more flexible on that, or at least have had greater opportunity to explore it. Bi or homo leaning female, nobody bats an eye. Bi or homo leaning male, everybody losses their minds!

Attractiveness is all over the place. Supermodel thin attractive, she-hulk attractive, pin-up attractive. Hugh Jackman to Peter Parker to Bishi.

I never answered the attractiveness question, but I have in other threads on that subject. "Attractiveness" is too vague a term for me to say "How attractive are my PCs".

I've had rugged PCs, sensual PCs, cute mousy PCs, etc. etc., I would say they're all about as "attractive" as any other but in completely different ways.

I think my female half-orc scarred witch doctor is attractive in a completely different sort of way that my male aasimar bard.

My current character is a hobgoblin for whom I rolled a 7 Comeliness. I describe him as "ferociously ugly," with puke-colored skin and a blue nose like a mandrill's. He wears a hoodie all the time to avoid people pointing at him in horror. But I'm the one who got the girl last session (natural 20 Diplomacy! Woot!)

    What a fun sounding thread.

Gender: a jocular fellow that doesn't take masculinity too seriously.
Sexuality: well that is a complex question. I think the common labels provide support to lean on, and are an easy go-to but people are more complex than a simple term and into more than just one thing, don't you think?

Characters: a lot of years of gaming here, but to sum up. Mostly men hard and as abrasive as grit, highly entertaining and low on morals. Not very attractive at all (is killing attractive?). Their sexuality could be summed up as hetero, but fantasy worlds open up a lot of possibilities.

Generally though, you've got to admire those "curvaicious ladies".

That isn't all though. I've ran my female characters and had my fun. It is good to try and get into character and play a noblewoman or tough ranger lass. They have been heterosexual but I've been more cautious there, because if you play a whore that takes anyone or a raging lesbian, the attempt at wish fulfilment is too obvious and crude and I've seen that done quite a bit by a few characters. It got weird, let's not make this weird.

    Good thread.

    Hetero Male; over 40...

For the most part I prefer the visualization of female characters. I do not mean, 'cause bewbs. But the idea of (for example) a very skilled, fearless woman-child learning to hold her own and serve a cause greater than herself is cool. When it comes to appearance, I want something that *sticks* in someone's mind. "Katerina is skinny like a wet cat" or something like that. Cheesecake really doesn't fit the bill... This is striking!
Other iconic ones are River Tam, Leeloo, even Merida :) Basically, courageous strong, un-masculine heroes.

For PCs played (either on a table or PbP)
Katerina the Maid (alluded to above) Hetero female that has a very serious, duty oriented view of life. Skinny, underfed as a child, and wiry. She was *embarrassed* when someone suggested that the Sheriff was interested, though really, she could have been interested in him... (Rise of the Runelords)

B'yelka Morfaine: Hetero female that is very feminine, she has decided to take the role of hero and sell it for all it's worth. Snazzy dresser, image conscious and stunningly good looking. She has started to realize that she has some feelings for our party's alchemist, but only when he is not himself (the Alch is aiming for Master Chymist...). She is going to be asking their flamboyantly gay male friend for some advice on what to do about her confusion. See, she doesn't really like him when he is his high and mighty stuffed-shirt wet blanket self... Otherwise, she is flighty and demanding, but a good friend.

Karri Chouk: Hetero female, scarred by her past and the (literal) demons that torment her soul, she is terrified that she will never find another to take her slain lover's place. That is, someone that will embrace her, inner turmoil and all.

Alina Las'Baelin: Hetero (most likely) elf female. She had a long, close (though not intimate) relationship with an adventuring partner that given the right catalyst could have been consummated. For the most part, she likes manly free-spirited men. Alina also has a jealous streak a mile wide. See, she was raised to do soldierly work, defend the homeland, shoot enemies, etc etc. Her younger sister was given the prerogative of being 'girly'. Alina the warrior, Ryliah the princess...

I was once told by a prospective GM that I was not allowed to play a female character. Though a bit irritated, I still played a few sessions with a socially skilled, if young, male rogue-type. ('til other factors made it not worth my time...)

Years ago I had a male celtic themed warrior-cleric type that was married to another player's character. That relationship was used to generate some adventures. He had a penchant for late nights at the pub with the boys and one night, he didn't come home. You see his wife's 'friend' from her adolescence decided to get some revenge and used the "Eyes of Charming" to lure the poor hubby away! So, the chase was on, and oh, the adventures they had figuring out that he *didn't* leave on his own accord!

You know its funny, I also came across a dm that really doesn't like males playing female characters.

Guess he didn't realise he was running an rpg.

Actually, as I've said before, through no one in particular's fault, it's always ended... badly... for my groups when it's happened. It became an unspoken policy that we simply stopped doing that, because it generated situations that were uncomfortable for some of the players. GMs play members of the opposite sex, sure, but there is a level of separation that is different from an actual character. I can understand that becoming a group's policy as a result, even if it's not mine.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

    Male, hetero.

I've played a wide variety of characters, both male and female, of ages ranging from preteen to middle age (though the vast majority are 20-somethings).

I don't like roleplaying romance though, so I usually make my characters unavailable. Either too focused on the mission (No time for love, Dr. Jones), asexual, or psychologically damaged and unwilling to get too close to anyone.

As for character appearance, a picture is better than words. Usually I make a character first, then get frustrated trying to find the right picture. Sometimes I find the picture first, and make the character to fit.

    Male heterosexual in real life.

For characters too many to list, but some of the highlights I in the sex department were:

Asexual warforged sorcerer who was confused by why the humans chased each other around like they did.

Male straight really young human fighter who was grappling with his sexuality and crushing on all the females around him, but way too shy to ever do anything about it.

Female human with unearthly beauty (random rolls in front of witnesses) who was repeatedly abused as a pre-teen and had major sexual and self confidence issues. (Ended up marrying the party paladin because he was the only one she trusted wasn't after her body)

And the current character in 1890s era Dresden: average looking straight male catholic militant monk (knight Templar soon to be knight of the cross) who is having major issues holding to his vow of celibacy with the really cute barmaid he is friends with.
Interestingly this is the most sexual focused game we have played in a while due to another homosexual male character who was in the closet until he got mind probed by a socialite lady who then tried to "fix" him and make him marry a girl in town. We rescued him but not before she implanted a horror of homosexuality in his brain, so now he hates himself, and we all have been dealing with the fallout of that for many sessions now.

Male ex-space marine who would bed anything and anyone he could.

OP: First point is you may want to expand the gender concept.

Anyway, I'm a dull Kinsey 0 straight cis gendered male.

I've built way too many characters to bother going through the list. In general, I try to make my characters extremely varied on both of those grounds. There's two reasons: so I can have a broader spectrum and since I often GM, I don't want my world to be populated by an unreal slice of reality. As a consequence, I've played characters who are male, female, or have other concepts of gender, such as a Vampire: the Masquerade Tzimmy who thought the entire idea of gender for a vampire made as much sense as gender applied to a computer. The majority of my characters have been hetero on the grounds that most of the world is hetero, but I've written up openly gay or bi or asexual characters, especially when fleshing out a world.

I've also learned to vary the attractiveness of the characters in games and who they might appeal to in order to try to make the world seem more real. There's something downright odd about a world where everyone you meet is an underwear model, and something both creepy and kind of problematic about a world where males can have varied body types and attractiveness but females must all be nubile hotties. It's also made me dig deeper for images for characters and games; face it, a lot of fantasy/sci-fi art is cheesecake or sexual self-empowerment fantasy for a white straight male gamer and if you want your game not to seem like it was designed by a fourteen year old white kid, it's going to take you more time to find what you're looking for.

Yeah I make sure that some of the female rangers/archers are quite plain in regards to looks. Not everyone is a lingerie model (and it creeps me out too when that is presented as the norm). That doesn't mean they aren't sexy or a sexual tyrannosaurus, because that is a different metric.
