It has some conventions that will play poorly with voters but it is a solid item with real creativity.Kamai wrote:Erick Wilson wrote:Honestly, the second one seemed like it's drawback was very nearly as bad as it's benefit was good, for absolutely no reason.Kamai wrote:Blind but not blind, or borderline cursed item?I'm seeing a lot of this "cursed" item hate (cursed in this context apparently meaning an item that has drawbacks) and I never noticed it in the past. The statement above goes so far as to make it seem like the two things mentioned are equal infractions, which is weird to me because one of them (blind but not blind) is explicitly in Sean's list of don'ts and the other one (cursed) isn't in that list at all. What gives? Did I miss a memo?I get that, and clearly that's bad. But making it into a semi-meme format like "blind but not blind vs cursed" makes it seem like that's one of the auto reject rules, and may well influence people in that direction. I just think either it should be legit to have drawbacks or it shouldn't be. And if it's legit then we should only be calling items out for having them for no thematic reason, or for the drawbacks being too drastic. Not for having drawbacks at all. But if we're just going to start throwing "cursed vs. X" around, then we've all but made it a rule that items can't come with drawbacks if they want to have any hope of winning.
To me that would be a shame, because I happen to like the idea of "pay a price" items, as long as they are thematically appropriate and balanced.
Obviously I can't say whether my item has to do with this issue or not. Let me just put it this way: I'm defending the principle, which I would be doing regardless. For instance, I think the maggot helmet in Dark Souls is awesome. The cost to use it is brutal, probably even way overboard relative to the reward. But it sure as hell is memorable.
And although I am trying to avoid mentioning specifics about the "cursed" items, your point is well taken and I'll say no more about it.

Nah................
Though elixirs come close to the spell-in-a-can items, in the lame category.

Wasn't trying to defend their Superstar quality, just that they are wondrous items.

Yeah, isn't an elixir basically just a potion that does a thing that there isn't quite any spell for yet?

I have not yet seen my item, sad sad me.
Side note: Just got 2 items that are both similarly started. One costs substantially more than the other. Like, by multiples. . . Anyhow, pricing is kinda off this year it seems.
Free rerolls, free attacks, etc. probably should cost at least as much as a spell granting the same. When in doubt. . .

Yes, I get it.
When I saw that one, I thought that the "ice" doesn't make it more useful.

You'll know it when you see it, trust me. I was left disappointed though. What you can actually accomplish with the effect is left in doubt.
